Fast forward ⏩

At first, the story was fine and funny as I got to know the cast. However, around episode 18, it became harder for me to continue, so I put it on hold for a month?

I decided to pick it up again because I found out Leon Lai was in 'The King’s Avatar,' and I didn't want to see him in both dramas. I ended up fast-forwarding through the remaining episodes?

One thing that saddened me was Alen Fang’s death; in my mind, there was no happy ending for him.
(The fact that I watched two of his dramas, and he died in both of them)

The ending was good, with the characters living their happy afterlife, accompanied by Zi Lu and Pei Shan.
Oh and I loved one OST as usual?

Underrated

This drama caught my attention cause i was trying to find dramas with the male lead as the main cast cause in terms of looks and acting he's amazing and underrated. I have to say the best part starts at episode 21 where the royal affairs begin.

Plot: a gang leader who grew up in a whorehouse meets a business man who suspected her of a crime then they investigated the case together, became close then the ML finds out he's a prince and then the story continues at the palace where the FL tries to unravel the truth behind a pendant that her master left behind before she died and it involved the royal palace.

Acting/Cast: The acting is on point i mean you already know it is if Bai Lu is in it. Everyone played their roles perfectly and i enjoyed it so much and the actors are really good looking.

Quality: The quality is like any good drama and good backgrounds.

It deserves so much more recognition!

Okay

Lengthy drama ,acting is good. Story is good but Lead character story part I think is wrong or wrongly directed , see in starting episodes second male lead got more screen with first female lead . He stand equally with her in tough time . In one scene it had shown that she caught in the fire though first lead saved her but second lead heal her . When he was taking care of her the way she looked him when he was taking care of her it showed she also moved towards him little bit but if we see in reality to look starting episodes she should loved second lead but he was second lead can't help . I think story should goes like in this way the first lead got second lead character and second lead got first lead character ,I think this would be better .
Secondly love story started very late for which we as a viewer actually waiting .
I liked their assistance love story more . They were looking so cute.
Very last episode story take a jump of three years or six years I forgot but his assistant still proposing her . What I wanted to see that they both are leaving happily married couple ,having kids and she is still pulling his leg .

a fantastic Bai Lu

Another great cdrama with BaiLu as FL! She is great in this character, it suits her best, with her cheekiness and childishly mannerism! PERFECT! the ML is from my personal point of view, super hot and jeez, his torso scenes, well... BRAVO! Definitelly worth watching... lol... jokes aside, the drama has an intriguing plot, good acting and the finale will leave you satisfied... even though, i feel the last episodes was trying to explain too many thinks to a point it was unnatural... i donno how to explain it... but there was too much politeness and calm reasoning going on in scenes where killing was involved... or it was supposed to be involved... and they were just calmly reasoning like a detective might do when solving a case in front of an innocent audience ... i donno if what i am trying to say makes sense... BUT regardless, i would definitelly advise this cdrama to anyon

I'm repeating this drama for the 3rd time. This much it's good!

I'm bias to both Bai Lu and Lai Yi, so it's a perfect score. Yes, there are lots of 9-10 score drama, so this isn't that type of super great one, but for someone likes ron-com, it could be. I just like to repeatedly watching this when I have nothing else to watch or after I watched heavy drama. It will lighten your heavy heart and make you laugh. And it will also give you fast heart beating (love) moments throughout the episodes.

This is one of a very few Lai Yi's main lead drama. He is tall, handsome and he is a good actor. And Bai Lu is very pretty yet she plays wild and out of control gang boss well, then once she is in love, things change quite a lot. You'll see her sweet side. Their chemistry is so good, it makes the drama more fun and it gives you love heart beating moments.

The plot has many turns and turns, so you will not get bored. There is some story you won't expect so you cannot skip the episodes. If you like ron-com, you will definitely enjoy this drama.

This is a good drama to watch while waiting for a great one. It is a fictional historical with some nice action scenes, good camaraderie, melodrama, comedic moments, and a light romance that started too late into the drama. There’s also some mystery. Although the leading couple has good chemistry, their romantic scenes were playful and cute but not exiting. The leading character was written to show a cold facial expression for most of the show’s duration and it became tedious. The female lead’s character was fun and nice to watch but the character’s delivery felt off on the romantic scenes. Overall, it is a nice drama and it delivers entertainment. Enjoy it!

A DECENT STORY AND LOTS OF HUMOR MAKES FOR A GOOD SHOW!

I picked this one up because of actor Alen Fang (previous Unique Girl). I like to see for myself what I’d like about a show, and other than the actor mentioned I actually liked the 2 leads very much. Both strong minded, smart and of course, stubborn but work together to resolve issues. The overall storyline was good, the male lead typically seems cold-hearted and too serious but ends up being a pretty cool guy, right? My first time watching Bai Lu and I actually loved her character being a boss and in charge, she’s quite clever and funny, too. There’s enough humor to make me laugh, and there are other characters to like or not like. Other two of my favorite parts of watching a period piece are the costumes, and a good soundtrack.

I don't know what wrong with the show, I personally didn't like it. It was really really boring. the beginning kept talking about some kind of gold thread, in which I didn't care about, and know want to care about. I can't stand the male lead. The more I look at the male lead the more I think he can't show love. I ship her with the second male lead. Li Qingliu played the big senior brother in eternal love, in which I can't get rid of that. So it only reminds me of the guy he played in eternal love, not who he played in this show. I was honestly really excited to watch this but the show wasn't good. It kept talking about other stuff, and I don't know how she ended up working for him but the whole storyline is a complete mess.

disappointing

the story started out great---i really like the love-hate relationship between the mogul and the gangleader. It added element of age status between riches and rags. their banters are also very funny and cute. towards half of the drama I found myself asking myself several things, such as:
- why is the PRINCE himself doing the dirty work, going to brothel? where is the dignity of a PRINCE? is it because of love?
- at the beginning of the story there is a running gag that Li Qiuling couldn't touch woman, except for Long Aoyi. how come it is not being brought anymore at the middle of the story?
- why is the relationships between the lord and the companions so casual?
there are a lot of instances where the plot is forcing Li Qiuling and Long Aoyi to meet and join forces. and then it became ridiculous, the push and pull between the two characters. I find myself not liking Aoyi's brashness and Qiuling's uptight attitude. Instead of being endearing, watching this drama become a chore to me.

I watched this drama because of Leon Lai. I liked him in Who Rules the World as Prince of Jizhou, so finding him as main role in a colossal drama is exciting to me. but the writing of this drama is NOT it for me. this is also my first drama starring Bai Lu, and I have no doubt that she is good at acting, but her facial expressions as aoyi is not doing it for me. in the end, im dropping this drama.

A GORGEOUS FABRIC that got SHREDDED to bits in the end

Yup.

What began with a gorgeous fabric .. was damaged beyond repair in the last 1/3 of show .. It's like the writer lost track of what design of clothing she started out with .. or maybe thought she could decide along the way??

Once I completed the drama I finally understood why most comments in the discussion thread called it a disaster.
I was SO PUZZLED .. because I was SO ENTERTAINED for 2/3 of the show.

I watched the first half of the drama (pre-palace entry .. well actually even several episodes into palace) laughing, chuckling; RELISHING every bit of Bai Lu's role as the kick ass Gang Boss, she is written SO well .. the knitting of the tension so engaging .. the various ways she outwits and keeps being Top Dog in a tough man's world.

FOXY is such a delightful way to describe her ..

And then it starts to unravel .. by the end the drama is shred to a nuisance pile of illogical rubbish; to say that there are plot holes in the second part is a compliment; there is nothing of plot left to even make a hole in it (ROFL).

The script is so schizoid !!! I was like WHAT!??

~ 8.5 /10 (pre-palace segment)
~ 7.5 / 10 (few eps of early Palace segment)
~ 4.0 / 10 (Ep 30 onwards)

Overall because
- I LAUGHED so much and ENJOYED the Gang Boss in Silver City literally "twerp" / wink her way through "wins"
- thrilled to have discovered a HIGHLY talented ML - Leon Lai - with so much potential who delivers along with Bai Lu

I felt generous enough to donate 1.5 point extra to the 6.0 I was itching to give it .. the end left such a BAAD taste.
So it's a 7.5 / 10

Have fun tripping on Bai Lu (and Leon Lai) in Silver City .. and then go glug a gin and tonic with a drama buddy and have a roaring laugh at the absurdity the drama descends into once Changan is reached.

Very interested story,,,

Overall, this drama tried to pack a lot into the story, the writing was consistent enough to weave the plots together seamlessly. The show started strong for me, with its fresh take on the FL's background, where she was the leader of a righteous gang whose focus was on helping the common people. I was intrigued by the synopsis and looked forward to seeing the romance develop as the OTP learned to work together and overcome their class disparity. Unfortunately, the writer had to throw in the usual palace nonsense, including the "secret royalty" trope. It did all fit together in the end, but the story development was not that smooth. I don't know if it was due to bad editing, censorship, or weak writing that caused the pacing to be off.

Despite all that, I could not help but binge on this show. In fact, I even watched the last 32 episodes raw because I had to find out what happened in the end. Why? Because of Bai Lu and Leon Lai!

I was so drawn to the OTP's visuals and their story. I did not mind their slow-burn romance, and even though there were few passionate scenes, there was great chemistry between Bai Lu and Leon Lai. There was a certain dignity in how the ML and FL displayed their feelings for each other. Both characters were strong, intelligent, savvy, and well-respected in their own societies. Watching them come together and realize how well they complement each other was an enjoyable watch for me. Of course, there were angsty moments of misunderstanding and noble idiocy, but compared to other period C-dramas, the melodrama was not heavy.

Bai Lu may have reached 'girl crush' status for me. She has an on-screen presence that commands attention, an attractiveness, and acting talent that one would expect of a female lead. She has the natural arrogant face to portray Long Ao Yi perfectly, and one memorable scene for me was when she danced to counter the ridicule of the so-called high-society guests. Bai Lu used her body language and expressions very well in this role as she transitioned between an unruly gang leader to a palace concubine. One reason why I gave the show a high rating because of the strong FL character who was also relatable. I like that Long Ao Yi could always rise above it all, move on and focus on the big picture or main point. Yes, she had her moments of weakness or slip-ups and silly stubbornness that delayed the progress of her relationship with Liu Qing Liu. However, all that was what I would expect of the character who stayed true to herself the whole time.

The show made the right choice casting Leon Lai next to Bai Lu. His manly good looks and physique match Bai Lu's haughty beauty really well, and he has the charisma to play the aloof Liu Qing Liu. His icy expressions were not emotionless, and he was not stiff. This role may not have given Leon a wide acting range, but he did pretty well with his micro-expressions, especially when Qing Liu started falling for Ao Yi. Given that this is only his second lead role, I think he did a great job. I hope that he will be casted in more lead roles as he hones his skills further. Likewise with Alen Fang. I had watched him in "The Love by Hypnotic" and was impressed by him. His character Li Zhao did give me a little SLS, and I felt so bad for him who was so in love with Ao Yi until the very end.
