Unofficial Operation (2023)This movie is based on a true story about a Korean diplomat who goes to Lebanon to rescue another Korean diplomat from kidnapping.
Ha Jung Woo is best at playing this kind of character, while Ju Ji Hoon was great as the taxi driver who helps with the rescue. Their bromance worked well as they are close in real life so the acting felt natural.
There's some action, like the car chase scene similar to MI, the feels of the movie like Mogadishu. And there was a bit of comedy too. Though the last 10 mins became a bit dramatic compared to the overall tone of the movie.
It doesnt offer anything new to the genre, but as HJW and JJH said in their interviews, this was supposed to be great movie to watch and enjoy with the whole family (and i agree!). Try to watch on the big screen!

Superb duo and superb action
Extremely brilliant storytelling and highly intense action sequences, the director who got his fame with Kingdom series surely never disappoints with this diplomat ransom storyline. The chemistry between Ha Jung Woo and Ju Ji Hoon is impeccable as their characters went through an oddball collab to rescue the kidnapping of a Korean diplomat in a war torn country. The humor within it is subtle but cleverly implemented, and the action is packed with strong impact as they've made one of the best car fight scenes ever in the Korean cinematic history. The ending is especially tear jerking, mixing with complicated diplomatic relations while stressing the importance of media freedom and democratic society, what a meaningful action movie this is.Was this review helpful to you?

Okay okay back to the film — Ransomed is about a diplomat on a wild mission to rescue a senior diplomat (classic IR-core 🔥). The plot honestly starts kinda slow like... lots of “hah? heh? hoh?” confusing convos and I was like bro what’s going on. But after the first hour? BAAAAM. ACTION-PACKED. INTENSE. FULL SEND.
That chasing scene?? I was screaming, shaking, crying. My anxiety said hello. The tension? 100/10.
Also, the dynamic duo of Ha Jungwoo and Ju Jihoon? ELITE. Literally they carried the entire movie on their backs and made it look effortless.
Ha Jungwoo’s acting is top-tier as always — man really said “I’m a whole character arc.”
BUT JU JIHOON??? YA ALLAH. TAKBIR. GANTENGNYA BIKIN IMAN GOYAH 😭✨
If you’re into international relations, diplomacy, politics with ✨chaotic thriller energy✨, this one’s a must-watch. IR students, gather your class and stream this ASAP.

One of Korea’s painful moments told with sincere honesty
The core story behind Ransomed is heart wrenching and inspirational at the same time. While the movie itself is a loose characterization of the facts, it is well executed and authentically presented as it pulls you in for a turbulent ride in 1987 Lebanon. IMO it is an excellent film. I dare say Hollywood could have done better.The duo Ha Jung Woo and Ju Ji Hoon were funny, sincere, and believable as Diplomat Lee Min Joon and taxi driver Km Pan Su. They had great chemistry together and were supported by a wonderfully diverse mix of actors who held their own in each of their respective roles. I was impressed by the realistic use of several languages. None of the actors came off cheesy when speaking English, which so often is the case in foreign films.
While not attractive due to the film’s setting, the cinematography was excellent. The OST blended with and supported the film so well it was never a distraction .
Korea has a fascinating history including its recent, more modern period. This story is part of that and I appreciate and applaud Korea’s film industry for tackling even its painful moments with sincere honesty.
I highly recommend this film.

بس في الفيلم يحكي انهم في لبنان حتى العرب الي مثلو فيه يتكلمو لبناني وضنيت صدق انه في لبنان بس بعدين
حبيبة بان سو الي هو(جو جيهيون)تكلمت بالبدايه لبناني وفي اخر كلامها لهجتها مغربية فضحكت وعرفت ان الممثله مغربيه بس ماكنت اعرف انهم في المغرب صوروه لانهم ضبطو اللهجه اللبنانيه وحلو صراحه ان سوو كذا لان المغربي محد يفهمه🤣القصة والاحداث مره حبيتهم والتمثيل كان تحفه
بس الي يضحك كان لهجة جو جيهون وهو يتكلم لبناني😂😭حرفيا كلامه يشتي فك شفره🤌🏻🤣🫂
اتمنى يوم من الايام الانتاج الكوري لما يدخلو في القصة اللغة العربية يشتغلو عليه اكثر ويجيبو عرب يضبطو للممثلين الكوريين الي بيتكلمو عربي النطق✨
