Story: Still can't believe it was based on a real incident, just amazing, a miracle.
Cast: The cast was amazing, each and every one of them represented their character to the best ability. You could feel the emotion and feelings of the characters even over the screen. I watched the movie with a rollercoaster of emotions and even cried in the end.
Music: Intense background music which fit perfectly with the scenes.
Rewatch Value: 10 I really enjoyed this movie and would probably rewatch it again at some point, it is not too long which is perfect to watch when you're bored and don't want to start a whole drama series.
Overall I recommend that you watch this movie and get to know about the actual incident. (Sichuan Airlines 3U-8633 Incident)

Good, but way overdramatized
To be fair, I have watched a documentary about Sichuan Flight 8633 before I have watched this movie. This is why I'm not overly enthusiastic about this movie. It was overall okay, but too draggy and I can't oversee the scenes that look as if they were put into the movie in order to let the entire crew and staff shine. Maybe there is such "drill" on Chinese airports but still it leaves me with doubt as I'm also aware of Chinese propaganda and they wouldn't allow their people to appear less than perfect in a movie of this sort.
What truly irks me is the fact that they overdramatized things. Really unnecessary in my opinion, because let's be honest, a broken window in an airplane is dramatic enough.
The facts: The co-pilot really got sucked out of the window which first cracked, before it broke completely. The co-pilot was halfway outside the window, his legs got stuck under the control stick, pushing it forward which sent the airplane downwards. The captain couldn't draw him back in, he also had to stop the airplane from its "fall" and get out of the mountains quickly in order to get to a height that allows breathing without oxygen masks.
The co-pilot was too badly hurt to help with anything, it was the third pilot who took over for him.
In real life there was no storm though, turbulences yes, but nothing major and no storm they had to fly through in order to leave the mountain area. Also how on earth did people on ground knew in the movie, that Sichuan Flight 8633 was in trouble, like one minute after the incident happened? That's nonsense.
The movie overdid it with the drama which makes the captain and others look like some sort of superhuman. He's a hero (I will not deny that), but that was too much for me. I prefer the documentary over this or the movie "Sully" that is also based on the real life event of an airplane landing on the Hudson River but not overdramatic.

A very action pact movie.
It was a very straight forward movie that contained an issue then a solution compared to what I'm used to. You don't see (or at least I don't have any knowledge) of crisis movies on planes. I have only probably seen 2 movies that involve this type of action in the middle of a fight. The actors all did a very good job! It was very inspiring and a miracle that they all came out alright. For this to have actually happen makes me glad that there are that many procedures and protocols that are done before the flight is even loaded with passengers.

China's "Miracle on the Hudson" - you gotta watch this!
Here's what I learned from miraculous plane landings, such as the one made by Captain Sully of US Airways Flight 1649 (Miracle on the Hudson) and Captain Liu of Sichuan Air Flight 8633: You need extraordinary airmanship to land your passengers and crew safely during these unexpected emergencies, and most essentially, you must remain very, very calm when everyone is panicking around you. (And they have a very, very good reason to.)This movie was so excellently made, and it is on par with my other favourite air-flight disaster movie, Sully. But rather than center it around an overly dramatic hearing about Sully's actions (which was far from what really happened in reality), The Captain kept it simple - it focused on the events leading to the cockpit accident how the crew kept everyone calm, and how the pilots finally landed the plane despite crazy weather, the mountains and a busted gears.
However, we don't really get to know our passengers very well; the film gave some of them a backstory or two, but it's never deep enough for us to truly care for them. (I even wondered why we were given introductions to some of them.) The focus is sharply on the pilots and the air attendants.
Time moved so fast that I was stunned that I was at the end of the movie. Not a single minute was boring. (I mean, honestly, how could it be boring?? LOL.)
At times, I thought the soundtrack was overly dramatic, but I forgave that because there were really touching moments such as the flight control manager's teary eyes when he thought the plane was lost, or Captain Liu thinking about his daughter as he flew the plane through a treacherous storm.
On a side note, I also enjoyed the movie's little touches of culture here and there - what I assumed was Tibetan language, the Sichuan-accented Mandarin and more.
As a Malaysian, I couldn't help but think about our ill-fated missing plane, MH370 and the tragic fate of MH17, shot down over Ukiraine, when watching this movie. The year 2014 was Malaysian Airlines' annus horribilis - we had two major air disasters months apart.
Perhaps this is why I enjoyed Sully and The Captain so much. It gave me the happy ending and closure I and many Malaysians craved for MH370 and MH17.

Sichuan Airlines 3U-8633 Incident
I watched this movie with my family and forgot to add it to MyDramaList. Here I am writing the review a year later. As I said, it's been a while since I watched the movie so please cut me some slack because of my bad memory. The story was great. It had a great deal of panic, action, sadness, and tension. It was an eye-opening semi-fiction documentary of the Sichuan Airlines 3U-8633 Incident. The cast really fitted their character. The only thing that I didn't like was the fact that most of it was obviously green screen. They didn't do a great job producing the lightning and rain. Also, most of it was unrealistic as in they added some components that weren't there in real life to make it more dramatic. Thankfully, I DID expect it as it wasn't a straight documentary. Overall, I WOULD RECCOMEND IT.Was this review helpful to you?

Miracle landing
I came across this movie by chance, after finishing the cdrama New Horizons. Honestly, I've watched this 3 times! The first time, on my tablet, found it very incredible and decided to do a bit of research into Sichuan Airlines flight 8633 into what happened. The drama follows closely on the incident that took place, but I believe the bits that were dramatised were the storm that the plane encountered on its emergency diversion to Chengdu Airport. There are so many emotions that went through my mind
1. The captain has the heaviest responsibility of his passengers' and crews' safety.
2. Do I miss travelling, going through the hassle of flying? (especially now with the Covid-19 pandemic)
3. Do we take the takeoff safety briefings for granted?
4. There are all sorts of characters that you meet - selfish, greedy, rude, arrogant, egotistical, anxious, depressed, disciplined, happy, excited, kind, etc. And these are just the passengers!
5. What if you're given a second chance to live? What would you change in your outlook on life?
6. Prayers and support help!
7. Do your part in helping the passengers and crew to get the plane back safely even if this means sitting quietly, and don't make trouble for others!
8. Murphy's law: "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong" - which is why having procedures and guidelines help to get you out of sticky situations.
I would definitely put this movie as a must watch if you have an interest in aviation, travelling, action, slice of life, suspense and a bit of romance. Give it a try!
