Strong protagonist

The best word to sum up this kdrama is "strong woman".

Queen: love and war is a good title because you can tell that it is focused on the power of women. As I went through the kdrama I could see the different roles that women played in this period of time and the differences in power that they had. Even though sometimes it had its clichés they were very well proposed in the story and I feel that they were necessary.

I can't say enough that I loved the main character because she was strong, intelligent but a bit naive and I must add that the chemistry was good with the male protagonist. Although I found the kisses a bit uncomfortable between them.

The photography in general was very good and the color palette that they handled with the actors equally, I think that with the costumes they also spoke to us about the growth of these.

Flawless

Absolutely perfect, especially the king’s love for his woman. Despite everything, he protects her at all costs. What I liked most was that he didn’t care about anything else—his priority was always her.

In many dramas like this, the king often becomes helpless and lets his woman suffer, but here, that wasn’t the case.

Too good! A must-watch.

Underrated Drama

I was wondering if to watch this drama because of the relative low rating of 7.7. I am so happy I've started it and watched it until the very end. Every Character was so well developed even the side plot characters had their own motives and story arcs. The acting was for most part also top, but what I really enjoyed was the music .
The main theme song in Latin was so captivation so I want to share with you the English translation .

La freccia odiosa trafiggeva il cuore
Da quella notte sentirci non cruenta
Gelide voci trascinava a sé
Diceva il odio cancellerà il tuo

The hateful arrow pierced the heart,
No pain was felt in that bloody night,
With cold voice he took her away,
Saying he will abolish her hate.

VERY ENTERTAINING

This drama has been out for a while but I just watched it and I was glued to the TV. I fell in love with Kim Min Gue. He did such an exceptional performance. I enjoy watching feel good dramas that are absolutely not tear jerkers. Being the person I am, I did tear up in some of the scenes in which the character couple were met with so many challenges in the relationship. The loving relationship between the two main characters was strongly felt thru their performances. I have to say that the baby in the drama was just absolutely beautiful. The drama gave me such a warm happy feeling with the ending. Great work, thanks to all of the work that went into this entertaining drama. I will definitely watch again.

Excellent portrayal of politics among romance

I started this one with low expectations as the last two Kdramas had high reviews but just didn't work for me. However, I am blown away by how much I am enjoying this. Clearly, one shouldn't go by ratings alone, since this one is actually a 9 + for me at this point.

The pacing is perfect. Here are some of things that have worked well for me -

the actors are amazing, the comic relief is just right - that can really bore me at times in Kdrama as I don't usually find the comedy too funny, the politics is extremely believable, everyone is clear about why they are doing what they are doing (IOW- plausible storyline), the murder mystery is genuinely interesting, the side characters do more than just fill screen space, the funny but actually conniving cold character thrown in, a spunky FL and a strong kind ML. This one did make it to my tiny list of great Kdramas.

The music was in particular fabulous

All the best to those who try it out. I loved this drama and would watch it again.

I was sorely disappointed with this drama. The story was unfulfilled with weak romance and unexplored character development.

The story was lacking because the political intrigue wasn't properly covered, leading to a few plot holes large enough for me to put my foot in. The enemies were your typical 2D villains who practically rubbed their hands together with glee as they once again attempt to separate the main leads for no clear reason. The actors were all attractive, but that was where the enjoyment ends for me. The king was a lovesick puppy with the typical trope of having met the female lead once when they were little and falling in love. He doggedly chases her around during the queen selection and for some reason, she falls in love with him even though he does nothing other than insist she is the dead queen for literally half of the show.

Next, there was no character development. I appreciate getting a smarter than usual female lead but that is where it ends. She grew up on the streets but she acts like a high bred noblewoman from episode one, which made no sense. First, she wanted revenge on the king, and then within the span of 1 or 2 episodes, she is in love with him. The romance was just too forced, I actually shipped her more with the evil second lead.

Carrying on about the second lead, I wasn't expecting anything too spectacular but they really dropped the ball with him. Do Sang Woo did what he could with the mediocre script and instructions he was given. He played the playful yet scheming prince perfectly, and it would have been amazing if he hadn't been so head over heels in love with the female lead just from meeting a few times. If they had built up their relationship more, his complete 180 into a psycho obsessive dude in the last episodes would have made more sense and added extra spice to the show. Instead, we got another random dude in love with the female lead for no reason.

There was a little magic added in for some razzle-dazzle but ultimately doesn't do much for the plot except conveniently help the king save our female lead time and time again.

Music was memorable, but after a while, the opera-like voices began to wear me down because it was dramatic and the show felt like a snoozefest for me. Think Game of Thrones soundtrack used for a run-of-the-mill historical show.

The end was rushed, and I don't want to spoil it but anyone with half a brain cell would understand that the ending was impossible and a plot hole. They just wanted a happy ending so bad they thought no one would remember the previous episode.

Overall, if the writers had fleshed out the relationships in this show as much as they established the sisterhood among the nice girls in the queen selection this would have been a good show. Alas, trying to shove it all into 16 episodes was a mistake. Why does Jin Se Yeon keep appearing in mediocre historical dramas?

The drama hooked me, I finished it in three days, I liked it but it didn't convinced me. Maybe because having watched a lot of historical dramas, I'm used to more deep and melodramatic stories.
I wanted to try this one after reading the summary.

It's a short drama, only 16 episodes long, and it mainly focused in the process of selection of the queen and the resolution of the cases in which Kang Eun Bo's family was involved.
It's adequate in terms of politic intrigues, nothing new, but poor in terms of palace and harem topics compare to other dramas.
The romance was so-so for me, they had their scenes, but I didn't felt the chemistry between the leads at all.

Lee Gyung (Male lead): his character was really weak for a king, which was really annoying, always being trampled down by others. I didn't like the actor's performance either, it wasn't natural.

Kang Eun Bo (Female lead): she's quite reserve and depends on others a lot. Don't expect a "Mulan" type of personality, she's more of a "damsel in distress" type.

My favourite side character was Wal. He was loyal, friendly and caring.

The music was beautiful and memorable, the song keeps playing on my mind.

The costumes and scenaries were eyecatching.

Rewatch value? No no, I won't watch it again.

I enjoyed the drama and it wasn't boring, I don't regret watching it but it didn't fascinated me.

This drama was so good, I enjoyed it. It had everything in one, love, revenge, hate, drama, politics, and most of all it had a happy ending. If you are looking for a happy ending drama that is also a historical drama this is the one. It wasn't that long either. I highly recommend. I also enjoyed the actors there were really good and they did such a good job. I love the king he is so cute and handsome. I wish they had a little bit more I the ending, but regardless it was a good drama. The plot was really good and it wasn't too sad like many other dramas. I think everyone involved in this drama did a good job.

MUST WATCH

Okay, First of all I won’t say anything about the story for I might spoil you, All I can say is that this series is a must watch, Because this series proves that LOVE IS ABOVE EVERYTHING, that you will do EVERYTHING for the person that you love, To be honest.....I’m very meticulous when it comes to watching movies or series, I want to watch something that will both educate me and satisfy my soul.... and this series definetly did that, It tells you that you should never let the person you love be harmed, That you should always take care and trust your loved ones and it also tells us THAT WE SHOULD’NT LET OUR STATE OF LIVING DECIDE WHO TO BE FRIENDS WITH, EVEN IF SHE’S YOUR MAID BECAUSE LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP IS MUCH BETTER THAN POWER....I hope my review will help you

First of all I love the acting! ML is so handsome! and MC is pretty too.

Just that, why is it that almost all of the characters are always on the verge of tears, if not crying? Especially the ML, like?? It's not that boring but it's not that catchy either. I put it on 1.25x whenever im watching and sometimes 2.0x if the scenes are uninteresting.. which is very often.

Also, maybe it's just that i'm used to chinese historical drama but the punishments are too lenient.
just a cup of poison for someone who tried to kill the king twice and planned a coup? I was expecting for him to be beheaded or his whole family to get killed... and his daughter who also planned the coup with him and wronged the MC gets to live!? damn bro, if someone dared to fuck with my girl i wouldn't let that one live.

Also, most of the time, the king is just worrying about MC.. sure, he did plan to get the righteous officials by his side but that's it and it only happened for like, 3 or 4 times? No direct mention of the king caring for his people without the officials.

the ending is also unsatisfying. there was just 5 minutes left at the end of the series and both of them still didn't meet!? plus, what happened after? did he reinstate her as the queen since they have a boy, or what... did he abolish the monarchy since this happened at Joseon era? I thought it ould be that case at first too, lol I was wrong.

one more thing. the fight scenes are unsatisfying cause they die so easily !? and it's so shortttttttt. Just my two cents lol. But it is good.

the only ost that i find pleasing to the ears is the one at the end of the series, around ep 15 or 16 i guess? and they only played it once ugh.

but it's good tho. you should watch if u want to kill time

PRETTY GOOD but some minor icks?!

I think the storyline/plot was fun! It had a lot of potential and played well with romance and politics!

All the characters did a FANTASTIC job of portraying their respective characters - especially all the female leads!

As for the romance aspect - I really did love his obsession or like passion for the MFL but at some parts; he seemed too desperate / immature to me. BUT I still liked it LOL

Politics - made sense etc all the nitty gritty dirty tricks and such were there.

As for the 'power' the King had - interesting concept but felt like such a cheat code idk - definitely a unique addition for a traditional styled drama and could see how shamans and spirits idea came into play.

Overall, a pretty fun watch!! Some parts were slow but loved the cast, and the selection part was fun too! Worth to give it a watch!
