Timid civil servant, Kenji, takes charge of demolishing a dance hall located in a big shopping mall. No one wants to take the work because the ghost of Mary, a former dancer in the dance hall, interrupts whenever attempts are made to tear the building down. Kenji tries to find an exorcist to lift the curse, and after several attempts, finally meets Yukiko, who can see ghosts. Kenji and Yukiko then embark on a difficult journey to find Mary’s lover, Johnny. (Source: bifan.kr) Edit Translation

Disappointing from Sabu

I watched this movie during Nippon Connection Film Festival 2020 (online), and I had a hope in the name of Sabu. But it was a big mistake. The story is neither new nor interesting nor funny, although it was labeled as comedy or black humour. The stories/movies about ghosts which dwell on Earth unable to go to another world are ten a penny. Why to make movie about it again? Where is the new approach, compelling story, likable charakters?
Also I couldn't help but think: Sabu should stop watching the movies and series written by Neil Gaiman and never again try to write about spiritual stuff.
I found nothing good about "Dancing Mary". The story is corny and convoluted, some moves of charakters were not logical, or they changed their mind out of sudden. Also some of setting was barely believable (like the scene in hospital). Many scenes were unnecessary long, which is an common problem with japanese movies, this made movie running time too long as well.

I am in no way hating on any of the actors when it comes to this review. The actors did a great job... but the story itself was flat and terrible./
nearly two hours of dragging... for what reason? Hear me out... had they kept it to roughly just a hour and cut out a lot of stupid parts, it could have been a beautiful story.
But also why is there names Johnny and Mary? I'm genuinely curious because it really doesn't make sense. >__<

Why this is tagged horror, I don't know. Nothing scary about it. Just ended up putting me to sleep. lol
