One of the most well-rounded C-Drama of all time

I am five years late to this amazing drama which my friends kept recommending me to watch when it was released back in 2020. I hesitated due to too many episodes, and family drama is not my genre. However, recently, I decided to give this drama a try for SWL (one of the MLs in this drama) as I have watched his other dramas and films and find him quite a pleasant actor whose eyes can speak and bring so much depth and emotions to the roles he portrayed despite his young age. And, this drama really did not disappoint, it is probably one of the best C-Drama I have ever watched, I cried quite a bit during certain scenes because it portrayed very well about how sometimes love between people who are not your blood parents and siblings can run even deeper than your blood family members.

The OSTs for these dramas are very nice as well. I am so hooked into this drama that I kept re-watching, especially certain episodes with very heartwarming and meaningful scenes. Listing them below for reference.

Here are some scenes that I find meaningful and got me into an emotional wreck:

1. The two fathers coming together to raise these three children - two (2) of their own children Ling Xiao (played by SWL), and Jian Jian (played by Seven Tan) due to their wives passing away or divorced, and one (1) adopted child, Zi Qiu (played by Steven Zhang). This is the 1st time I have seen such concept in this C-Drama, very refreshing to see in a conservative society in an Asian context.
2. The "sibling dynamics" between the 3 leads even though they are not blood siblings, but their kinship is so much deeper than blood ties.
3. Ling Xiao being tormented by his crazy Mum and him gradually opened up to Jian Jian about his hardship and mental disorder even though he was very introverted.
4. Zi Qiu seeking out truth and slowly redeeming his relationship with his parents, ultimately reuniting with his Mum and having a closure with his Dad.
5. The slow burn romance between Ling Xiao and Jian Jian that I would say is pretty obvious that it has already started since their childhood days, even before they realized their feelings for each other when they are older. I like how C-Drama has the ability to portray romantic relationship in a pure yet deep manner that is not overly intimate.
6. Even though Jian Jian did not realize she had romantic feelings for Ling Xiao until he confessed to her but in the later episodes, there were some very heartwarming scenes of how she was really there to support him to help him improve his mental situation, these scenes itself have portrayed deeply on her love for him as well, the mutual love they have for one another and that it was not one-sided from Ling Xiao only.
7. The scenes with the supporting roles, Ming Yue and Tang Can, are ones to look at as well. They are the best examples of how in an Asian society, most parents forced us to the brink to live the life they want us to live and not let us live the life we want to live. Despite their crazy and controlling Mums, they still fought very hard to live their own lives and follow their passions even though they had to endure all the nonsense and criticisms from their family members.
8. The scenes where the two crazy Mums (Ling Xiao's Mum, and Ming Yue's Mum) finally realized how bad they are and started redeeming themselves.

Definitely worth your precious time !

Go ahead is by far my most favorite Chinese drama, I have ever seen .

… you will be touched by the sibling bond, when they’re hardly even related by blood

… it deals with toxic parents as well

…You will be happy to see the strong friendships throughout the whole story

…The story starts of when they were kids, proceeds to high school than their adult days, so you feel nostalgic and you will feel like you’ve watched them grow up somehow.

The acting was on point I give it a solid 10/10
The actors were able to show the character development smoothly without any difficulties. Also the writers kept the leads in character without any breakage throughout the whole story.

The ending was all good I won’t spoil anything but it’s safe to say that everyone is happy at the end and that’s all that matters.

(Just to clear this up there is in no way any incest , as you can read from the plot they’r not related by blood nor where they legally adopted by the same parents, this you will understand when you see it.)

I cried at the ending even though it was happy and a good one , I thought I’d miss them so much, maybe since it’s like a high school to grown up story I feel like iv been watching them for a long time. Anyways I’m so grateful for this drama.

the best cdrama for 2020 !

i really like this cdrama, its beyond my expectation for real , the story is really touching also the acting are really natural n good , every episode is so enjoyable to watch , i even can feel the saddness when he zi qiu meet her mother after that long time ... and when li hai chao drunk n let out all of his heart want to say , thats really touching , alos i really like he mei that still look so pretty in her age n funny when she n hai chao started to date but sadly only for few episodes only , n the worst part is why its only 40 episodes ? i think there are going to be season 2 with zi qiu story ... without doubt i would say that this is so far the best crama for 2020 ! must watch !

The writer seemed lost

Okay so first of all, I would like to say that I liked this drama and it was better than most typical cdramas which was a plus point for me. Everything was good overall. The acting was good. They manged to wrap everything well by the end. And the parent couple was adorable.

But the thing that got on my nerves was the plot. Don't get me wrong,it was a beautiful story. But the thing is I think the writer was very sure of what they were doing. It kinda felt like the main plot was supposed to be a story about 3 siblings who are not actually blood related strive hard for their dreams and passions and live happily. But when the romance came in,it kind of went downhill for me. Even though they were not blood related it still was very weird for me seeing them as lovers rather than siblings. And the concept of siblings as lovers grosses me out on so many levels.

Nevertheless, the chemistry was good between them and as I just accepted the romance,the story started getting boring in the romance part. It looked like they were forced to add romance in a very good and well planned plot. The romance seemed unnatural. The part where the FL kept saying she is gonna keep pitying him was also something that made me mad. I think ML thought she was pitying him even till the end and that's why she was dating him.

I really would've loved have seen the ML believe he's really worthy of love and that he's lovable. And the story with his mom ended in such a rush too. I thin the drama was supposed to have more episodes but got cut short because of something because the ending was so not natural. And if it was,then it's very disappointing. I think mom learned nothing and she isn't even reflecting on herself. Even at the end , the ML had to be the nice guy and reach out to her first. I get that she's suffered alot but it's been years and she should've let go by now and actually paid attention to his son and his mental health. She was selfish till the end and their story didn't end very well. It was not smooth or satisfying to watch. There were no character developement at all for the mom.

Overall the drama was good and so was the story but it felt like they tried to forcefully add things that weren't meant to be there.

So Real and Lovable

Wow. Just as I expected from a highly rated show, and especially just as I expected from my girl Tang Song Yun. Last time I fully watched her was in Whirlwind Girl which I loved her so much; and I loved her just as much if not more in this show.
TBH I am not the biggest fan of love triangles, but I do love it when it is done right- when the main girl knows exactly who she wants- so its not really a full triangle.
But I LOVED the main fathers so muchhhh….Y’all… idk if this healed or made my daddy issues worse  ? I loved every part of this. I was never bored. This highly deserves the high ratings. Excellent characters and character developments. Every character has their own flaws and imperfections, which never leaves you bored. This hits so close to home, from all the struggles to all the awkwardness to every misunderstanding…. which were all reasonable (I hate when misunderstandings can easily be prevented); even if it was a little dramatic, there was never a dull moment.
There was definitely an emphasis on the platonic relationships more than the main romance, but it was all done well, so I don't have a negative thing to say. I ugly cried a lot but laughed way more. I was rarely mad, maybe slightly annoyed at some characters but it was all fun to watch and worth it in the end. 10/10- story; 9.5/10- romance

Bitter sweet family

This story tackled issues happening in family, trauma, childhood, orphan, I think that is why the characters are so relatable realistic for me. Every single characters are struggling with family, friends, career in life including the supporting roles. I enjoy watching the process of their growth and there is slight difference on how they deal with certain issue when they are teens and adults. It shows their maturity here.
In the beginning, I pity He Zi Qiu the most since he was a child and especially when JianJian rejected him and chose Ling Xiao instead cause he went through a lot but he never had 'special' feeling for JianJian. Maybe it was his fear for being second choice and be abandoned during his childhood? Nonetheless, I am loving this part because viewers can realize this. But in later part, you cannot pity only one character because they all went through hardships. I cried every single time Zhang XinCheng cry.
For Ling Xiao. GOSH his spoke through his eyes for so many times. Song wei long did a good job in deliver the unspoken pain of Ling Xiao through his eyes, emotions and gestures. I thought he is the least hurtful character here but when the story unfolds later, he is also hurting.
For JianJian, her existence itself is the rainbow and sunshine not only to her brothers and fathers, but also to us, viewers. Even though, her character started as a cheerful young girl that is careless and shameless HAHAHAH but as she is growing up she is sensible and matured. She knows how to comfort people, she prioritized people. She is a strong girl with high confidence. Praises to Tan Song Yun cause she managed to portray a joyful young teen girl character.
I enjoy the family interaction, and JianJian's friendships.

A must-watch

There’s likely nothing I can say in this review that others haven’t already written.

My thoughts are fairly straightforward concerning this drama. It’s the sort of drama where the people are people. They don’t make all the right decisions, they make wrong decisions for good reasons, they regret and try to make amends, they try to please everyone, etc. If this drama has anything at the heart, it’s family with all the messiness and confusion and love that comes with that. Even more so when you consider that this family comes in the form of these broken people who’ve come together to form their own family out of necessity. Everyone has their own baggage and that manifests as the drama goes one.
This is a heavier drama, the type that might leave you feeling more than you expect, the kind that reflects more realistic feelings than most dramas tend to show. It might not be the type of drama you watch on repeat, but it’s the drama you should watch at least once and think about for a very long time.

Most realistic drama I've ever watched!

Best and my personal fav drama of all time. Don't wanna give spoilers. But if you haven't watched it..Just go ahead. Worth your time. Trust me.I felt so connected to the girl. Friendship and fellowship will have different meaning in your life after watching this drama.The 2nd male lead had me of course. The urge to marry the female lead for him was never about love but a family. A permanent family that belonged to him. Had such a amazing storyline here. Although I really like the male lead's mother personally but in this drama...woa...She made me hate her so much..But I let go of it after watching her other good role dramas. Overall, It's my fav and will forever remain so..Hopefully...

You shed tears because you now understand, "Because I have my family, I am strong."

I say this in the reviews I write - there are very few dramas that I have deemed deserving of a 9/10 rating or above, and even fewer dramas where I take the time to write a review.

Please watch this drama. This is different, this is refreshing, this is a drama you will never forget. You will want to hug your own parents. You will realize that because of your family, you can carry the world on your shoulders. You will look back at the times where you wished your parents wouldn't give you such a hard time, when you rebelled against them, or the hurtful words you might have said to them, and want to rewind time because now you're more mature and know that all they wanted was your happiness and success. An absolutely heartfelt, beautiful script with stunning performances by every actor and actress involved. You empathize with all of the characters, you shed tears when they cry, you laugh and smile when they do, and you end up feeling as you are part of their families.

Even with some of the caveats and perhaps plot discrepancies, what counts is the way messages are sent - that family isn't a bond that is only determined by blood, but also by the mutual and unconditional love, support, and understanding between individuals. We see multiple examples of this throughout the story, not only with the main family but also with the connections developed between friends. Although one could argue that the romance element that occurs in the drama is questionable, the other meaningful story lines end up overtaking this small nick in the plot.

Just a hands down bravo and overwhelming applause for the staff, and for the cast, particularly Steven Zhang and Tu Song Yan, but really every one excelled. This is not one of those popular romance dramas that makes your heart skip a beat or gives your stomach butterflies - it is memorable because it is so real, so raw, and strips away the protective outer layers of your heart and forces you to reflect on the meaning of love in a way that isn't romantic.

Omg what a perfect drama, worth watching ?♥️

Omg I wanna cry 😭♥️!!! Im happy that I started watching this late so that I can binge watch it 😜, but tbh I didn't wanted it to end i really want a spcl ep or a season 2 for ziqiu love story ,Jianjian and ling xiao's wedding , & also Dad Li and mom He after marriage story 🙈♥️🦄
• This drama was perfect combination of family, childhood, teenage, Adulthood and what twist and turns bravo!🎊
• Taking about the cast all were so good I'm personally not a fan of anyone of them but after watching this I won't be able to say that any longer ,
• Ziqiu's caracter was very promising I feel but the way he acted he really took the character to high level.
Jianjian , what should I say she is 30 and she literally acted like a 16 year kid her acting skills are really amazing
• Xiao ling , he really went through a lot but after all he got our girl , I really feel pity for both of them ziqiu as well as xiao.
• Dad Li and dad Ling, let me tell you because of him the story had a different perspective I really admire both of them
• Title OST was really soothing , it literally calms your mind.
• Overall it was a amazing drama. I would really recommend this drama , go ahead guys . It's worth watch 40 episodes. ♥️🎊
