Just a Beautiful Slice of Life....

Okay so I know this drama has been getting either 10/10 or pretty low scores. Now I personally agree more with the 10/10 than low scores because it definitely had a lot to it to love, but it just was not perfect.

The beginning of the story was amazing I was so into their childhood and what would happen when they came back together after being separated. I was really just counting down the hours until the next ep was available. But at some point I kind of stopped and it seemed like just another drama I was watching. This is probably because of the ongoing drama between Ling Xiao and his mum that lasted way too long and caused a rushed ending. However, other than that I don't really have any complaints.

The beauty of this drama:
- the relationships, not just romantically but the parent-child relationships, the siblings, the friendships, even just that dental colleague knowing when to stay in her lane and not be annoying like characters in a lot of other dramas. I also like they show different kinds of relationship problems through the supporting characters as well like Tang Can and Ming Yue's situation
- character development: now the ending is sort of rushed with Chen Ting's development however I loved seeing Tang Can, LX's little sister, Ming Yue (though her character was slightly annoying in the beginning lmao), then of course Zi Qiu and Jian Jian. Ling Xiao kinda stayed the same for me though he just decided to open up a little more
- Actors: Can we just appreciate the dads for a second, those two were 10/10 I loved any scene with them. Of course Seven Tan, Steven Zhang and Song Wei Long are amazing. But even the support characters were a joy to watch, this cast was just so good I love them all. Yang Tong She (Chen Ting's actor) was amazing, she really managed to fire me up and her expressions were on point.

I really recommend this to anyone who enjoys family dramas, now that it's over it might be easy to binge, waiting may have made it seem like it dragged out however I still think this show was beautiful despite its imperfections.

MUST WATCH, SUCH A GOOD DRAMA

Ahhh, I have been watching dramas for years and I should have joined this site sooner. Anyways, whoever reads this review, HELLO! Nice to meet you, i'm Amy! :)

SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW

This drama is a must watch! It is such a good drama about growing up and figuring yourself out. It tells the story about three siblings who are not related and they grow up and mature together! It is a really sweet drama and a very cute relationship between the main female, main male and second male lead. The three of them have a really cute and close relationship. Although at times you can't help but feel bad about the second male lead, it is a good thing. I feel like from the beginning of the drama til towards the middle, he couldn't differentiate the feeling of family love or actual love towards the main female lead. I feel like he's always wanted to actual be apart of the Li family that he thought he was in "love" with Li Jian Jian. He's always liked LJJ, but it has always been like the brother love, not the actually relationship love. But with Ling Xiao, you could tell that he has always loved LJJ. At first, when he was kid, you could tell that he was annoyed of her, however, he slowly warmed up to her and eventually fell in love with her. Once he warmed up to her, you could tell that he has fallen in love with her since they were kids. I almost stopped watching this drama when they all separated because I couldn't bare the fact that they were gonna separate, but I am so glad that I didn't stop! It got even better when they all reunited as adults. One good thing I really liked about this drama is that LJJ learned independence when both her brothers left. It was heartbreaking to see them break up, but she finally learned independence. All throughout her childhood, she always had both her brothers with her, they were always there when she needed them and were always there to protect her. But when things happen and both of them ended up leaving her, she finally grew up and became the amazing person she is. She was lowkey a little cringey when they were all still in high school; just a little cringey. However, towards the middle of the drama when they were all adults, I WAS AMAZED BY HER MATURITY. She always had the best advice and was just SO MATURE. I was shookedth!

UGH, there's much more I wanna talk about this drama, but I don't want to ruin it for you guys! IT IS A MUST WATCH! Not only is this drama so good about these siblings relationship, but also because it is so funny. There were a lot of comedic parts to this drama. I think I laughed from episode 1 til the end of the drama. I was lost when this drama ended because I didn't know what to watch after this. ( This may sound a little dramatic, but I felt a little lost with my life after this drama ended haha.)

The ost was AMAZING for this drama. I was listening to this ost non-stop for weeks. The song that Tan Songyun sang was so good. My favorite song was the theme song! It was playing non-stop on my spotify for weeks until it got old! Just all the ost songs WERE SO GOOD! Not only was the ost good, but the casting for this drama was amazing! I loved every actor and actress that played for this drama! They ALL portrayed their character so good! Especially Li Haichao! I was so amazed by his cooking skills in this drama haha. He was such a skilled cook and he always made me hungry!! And the bromance between Li Haichao and Ling Heping was just so lovable and adorable and cute. I never expected two father figures to have such a cute relationship. Their relationship was just so cute! I don't want to spoil anything and want you guys to watch and find out, but just know that their bromance was f ing adorable.

Although this drama was so good, there are a few cons with this drama. SPOILERS, but why are all the moms in this drama just HORRIBLE (besides He Ziqu's mom, she became good in the end; you will find out why hehe). The mom, sister AND grandma of Ling Xiao were just all so TERRIBLE. They basically all just abandoned him when they wanted to and expected him to come back whenever they wanted. LX's mom, bothered me the most, especially when I think (SPOILER) that she highkey just felt bad that she abandoned him when he was a kid because she blamed him for killing his sister. She only later "came back" into his life because she wanted to "repay" what he did for her. Like excuse me what??? Were you not the one to leave him and although you abandoned him, he still took care of you and everything after your car accident?! So how were you gonna judge him and prevent him from dating and loving who you wanted when he wanted to resume his life again???!!!! UGH! I was so pissed at that part....but anyways, you guys find out and decided what you think of it.

chosen family

i believe chosen family can be as strong as family by blood and it's heartbreaking to see jianjian cry when she said they're not like a "real family" because they're not family on paper. and thats why the romance later feel kinda odd to me. i like her friendships and i think it's cute they stay friends for years even after graduating.

i cant help but think if i would like this better if jianjian is the older sister? instead of a younger sister. it's not a bad story and by the reviews there are many who really like it. i guess it's just not for me

beautiful slice of life drama

go ahead is my first cdrama and i really enjoyed it.
i am a sucker for coming of age / slice of life / friendships drama so i knew i would like this one.

it was such a lovely drama and it made me go through so many emotions. i laughed, cried, got frustrated sometimes but got happy too. the characters were so endearing and i loved witnessing their evolution.
i loved the cast so much, they did such a good job. even the child cast was incredible and very talented.
the found family trope is one of my favorite and i think this drama made it justice.

however, i wish there had not been a romance between two of the main leads, but it is only my opinion. but i ended up fine with it since they didn’t make a big deal of the romance and focused more on the friendship and family.

all in all, this drama was worth to watch and i am glad I did.

The reality of broken family and the meaning of Love in a Family

half of the characters don't have mothers. the others half, have mothers and they are so freaking controlling and toxic, poisonous characters. Girls at 25-26 act like they are 12 years old, and they don't have an answer, a decision , fight back against crazy mothers. Castrated men. Men who have nathing to say. Men who are just there, without any kind of masculine energy and inspiration for their sons.

what is this drama trying to prove or inspire?!?!

I feel like I'm dying of boredom by episode 24, and this dull female perspective doesn't inspire me. It scares me. It saddens me.

Ling Xiao mother was a great example of a narcissistic, huge mental problems. As a child if you want to have a healthy life you have to end everything otherwise your life will be hell.

Mental health, toxic family, luck of boundaries.
Harmony and loving family, is yhe way to be open and able to live your life.

It has also cuteness, comedy moments but it was sad to see how children take aduls responsibility and they have to be responsible for the parants that treat them bad to glorify the image of family.

I hope people's watching this to learn and become aware of their mental health, emotional health and to have string boundaries even in the family.

a tale on how a parent's love can change everything

Ever heard of people who didn't want to have children because they can eff up their kid's life? This drama sets a prime example of how a parent's decision can make a difference. Often we go to our everyday lives thinking we are alone and those around us are barely affected by the actions we take. In truth, small actions every day bare big consequences in the future. Take neglect, two of our main leads played by Song Weilong and Zhang Xincheng suffered so much because of their neglectful and abusive parents. While the wonderful dads portrayed by Zhang Xilin and Tu Songyan made a conscious choice to be good parents making our trio resilient and filled with love. Tu Songyan takes the cake in being arguably the best dad ever in Chinese Drama and Tan Songyun's character is the luckiest girl to be surrounded by people who care for her. The story is good from start to finish and I have nothing bad to say about it. The drama deserves praise.

HEARTWARMING and A MUST WATCH

I've watched dramas growing up and every year I find a drama that leaves a great impression on me. This year that drama has to be "Go Ahead". I've never watched a drama that felt so relatable before. Of course, my childhood growing up was no where near these characters, but the emotions and the storyline was very relatable. The pressure of growing up in an Asian household really reflected in this drama. The duty of being filial was portrayed so well that you can't help but relate. I've never felt so much joy, sadness, and fulfillment watching a drama before. The scenes of the three main characters growing up from broken families and becoming one whole family really gets to you. It truly depicts the different type of parenting styles there are and how it reflects how children are raised. I really enjoyed how amazing each actor/actress portrayed their role. I can not applaud them enough for the emotions they brought out from their character and to me as an audience. I don't really want to spoil anything in this review so I left a lot of details out. If I want anyone to take anything out of this review is that, this drama is completely heartfelt and there's not a moment where you will be bored. You will enjoy the chemistry between all the characters and you won't regret watching it. This will forever be one of my favorite dramas.

One of the cutest family dramas!!<( ̄︶ ̄)>

Even though the headline says 'One of the cutest family dramas!!<( ̄︶ ̄)>' it has some toxic characters. But in the end maybe you'll understand some of these characters (or maybe you won't)
Li dad is an angel. He is the nicest, kindest and all-the-synonyms-for-nicest-&-kindest person I have ever seen. he is so forgiving and cute and shy. His interactions with ziqui wre my favourite.i shipped him with ling dad but.....
Jianjian is the wisest person in the drama. She seems and acts like a kid at first but her character development is awesomeeeee✨
Ming que was my fav character. She was brave, independent, and reallllly smart and wise. I hope to see more characters like her in more dramas
Ling xiao and ziqui were also cute and really smart and wise. They were more responsible than many adults in the drama.
Just like no one is perfect(or maybe you are), the only problem in this drama is the non- consensual kisses.
Well, I will end this review by saying that this is a really good family drama with many heart warming moments(especially Li dad'd and ziqui's interactions) and it is worth your time.

It’s a good show, but with some flaws

I love the main plot of Go Ahead. It’s so original and well written to see the neighbor and his new friend raising these kids through the years, and see how they became a family. A different type of family. This was the thing that made me love these people so much. The caring of these three to each other and their fathers was something so beautiful to watch. He Ziqiu is my favorite character, along side with his dad. All the scenes with them two together for me bring the best quality that this show had to offer. The love of Haichao for his kids made me cry so many times. I don’t have words to describe how pure and genuine this was.
But now I have to say about the negative things of Go Ahead. The moms. I think that have some things about the Chinese culture, that I’m not aware of, but how come these awful, so disturbing, disrespectful women made their kids suffer so much and in the end they had their “good ending”?! Specially Ling Xiao’s mom. This woman for me was the worst of this show. So many scene with her for nothing. Only she being awful and annoying all the time. Ok, I know she was sick, but I think the show losts its hands sometimes, cause it have so much other good plots to tell, and they show decide to show more of her awfulness. Parts of I didn’t like more was because of her. The other ones, so many things I think were wrong, oh my God… I can’t even know what to say. The only one that for me have the perfect story was He Mei. We understand what she went through, and she deserves a happy ending with Haichao. They are perfect together.
Talking about to the three main characters, the siblings. Their chemistry was top notch. For me, I don’t think that was necessary to put Ziqiu to had a “love interest” for JianJian. They’re siblings, the end. And I like that she end up with Ling Xiao. They’re meant to be since they were little. This was beautiful too.
So, in conclusion, I have the feeling that the 40 episodes was too much, for things that for me doesn’t sound good to tell (the so much of the mothers plots, the worst of it). But the rest was so good, and in general was a good show too.
In my heart, I’ll stay with this cute family in my heart, Haichao, Heping, Ling Xiao, Ziqiu and JianJian. All the times that they’re all together, was the highlight of the show. They are the best thing of all this.

Heartwarming yet heartbreaking

Go Ahead is absolutely a masterpiece that everyone should watch. It is definitely one of the most meaningful and touching drama I've watched. While watching it, I was swarmed with all kinds of emotions such as joy, sadness, anger, and relief. This drama will literally take you on a rollercoster ride.

You get to witness the ups and downs of each character as they grow and face different kinds of problems in life. It teaches us the importance and definition of family, wherein a family is built on love and care and its members are not defined by blood.

Watching Go Ahead will make you cherish your family and the people around you who continuely supports you. It showed us how the peaceful and joyful life that we share with the family we built can easily crumble when our past comes knocking on our door that places us in dilemma between our biological family that abandoned us or the people that accepted and treated us as their own family. It makes us realizes that the relationship we have will eventually change, for change is a constant. The only thing we can do is to move forward and go ahead in life. One day, the people close to us may leave, the things we avoid may suddenly appear, and the life we're trying so hard to hold on fall apart in an instant.

It tackled about the pressure that children face because of their parents and how it can grow and turn into their darkest scars. The show opens our eyes as to how avoidance or keeping our problems to ourselves is not the solution. It will eventually haunt us or make us overwhelmed with the burden we've placed on ourselves. Sometimes we don't want others to know the problems we're dealing in order for them not to worry or pity us and so that we won't trouble them with our own problems, but sometimes its better to open up even though the may not be able to offer some help instead of bottling all our all feelings because thats what familes and friends are for, which is to support one another.

BEST CHINESE DRAMA I'VE WATCHED SO FAR THIS 2020

I started watching this drama with just the sole purpose of seeing Song Weilong with no hopes that this drama will be great. But as I watched the first episode I honestly enjoyed it. I can say that because I felt that I've watched a 10 minutes long drama when in fact it was 40 minutes long.

I like the story. It was not the typical over dramatic story with heavily dramatized problems in life. It was just the right amount that made it perfectly portrayed the real life scenarios.

I like the acting. Their acting resonated inside me and that's why when they laugh, I laugh; when they cry, I cried.

Young adults would probably realize a lot from this drama. A whole lot. It will make you realize the harsh truth of being an adult, of growing up.
