It’s so worth it...an emotional and real life story

The story content, plot and acting were top notch. There were moments I was brought to tears and moment of joy. It’s not your typical fluffy storyline, but real life with a beautiful touch of romance, growth and family relationship. It teaches you to forgive the weakness of humanity, understanding the reasoning behind their actions, and then learning to love them. Sometimes we’re so anchored by the past that it’s hard to forgive the sin of others, talk less not see yourself as a lesser human for what they did to you. It’s very mental.

Bitter sweet family

This story tackled issues happening in family, trauma, childhood, orphan, I think that is why the characters are so relatable realistic for me. Every single characters are struggling with family, friends, career in life including the supporting roles. I enjoy watching the process of their growth and there is slight difference on how they deal with certain issue when they are teens and adults. It shows their maturity here.
In the beginning, I pity He Zi Qiu the most since he was a child and especially when JianJian rejected him and chose Ling Xiao instead cause he went through a lot but he never had 'special' feeling for JianJian. Maybe it was his fear for being second choice and be abandoned during his childhood? Nonetheless, I am loving this part because viewers can realize this. But in later part, you cannot pity only one character because they all went through hardships. I cried every single time Zhang XinCheng cry.
For Ling Xiao. GOSH his spoke through his eyes for so many times. Song wei long did a good job in deliver the unspoken pain of Ling Xiao through his eyes, emotions and gestures. I thought he is the least hurtful character here but when the story unfolds later, he is also hurting.
For JianJian, her existence itself is the rainbow and sunshine not only to her brothers and fathers, but also to us, viewers. Even though, her character started as a cheerful young girl that is careless and shameless HAHAHAH but as she is growing up she is sensible and matured. She knows how to comfort people, she prioritized people. She is a strong girl with high confidence. Praises to Tan Song Yun cause she managed to portray a joyful young teen girl character.
I enjoy the family interaction, and JianJian's friendships.

A must-watch

There’s likely nothing I can say in this review that others haven’t already written.

My thoughts are fairly straightforward concerning this drama. It’s the sort of drama where the people are people. They don’t make all the right decisions, they make wrong decisions for good reasons, they regret and try to make amends, they try to please everyone, etc. If this drama has anything at the heart, it’s family with all the messiness and confusion and love that comes with that. Even more so when you consider that this family comes in the form of these broken people who’ve come together to form their own family out of necessity. Everyone has their own baggage and that manifests as the drama goes one.
This is a heavier drama, the type that might leave you feeling more than you expect, the kind that reflects more realistic feelings than most dramas tend to show. It might not be the type of drama you watch on repeat, but it’s the drama you should watch at least once and think about for a very long time.

Most realistic drama I've ever watched!

Best and my personal fav drama of all time. Don't wanna give spoilers. But if you haven't watched it..Just go ahead. Worth your time. Trust me.I felt so connected to the girl. Friendship and fellowship will have different meaning in your life after watching this drama. The 2nd male lead had me of course. The urge to marry the female lead for him was never about love but a family. A permanent family that belonged to him. Had such a amazing storyline here. Although I really like the male lead's mother personally but in this drama...woa...She made me hate her so much..But I let go of it after watching her other good role dramas. Overall, It's my fav and will forever remain so..Hopefully...

A Chinese Modern Family

I've binge watched Go Ahead in two days recovering from an operation in bed and yes, it really healed me. I laughed, I cried, the day-to-day meals in this series made my mouth water, regaining my appetite for food and living.

Summary

Go Ahead tells the story of a recent widower who's running a local noodle bar. His life is focused on cooking and making his little daughter happy, in spite of the attempts of older ladies in the neighborhood to find him a new wife.
One candidate, a beautiful single mother with a son, seems to his liking. Alas, she is forced to leave by urgent family matters, taking his money and leaving her little son in his care. At the same time the neighborhood is disturbed by the arrival of new inhabitants, a police officer with his wife and son. The woman turns out to be a drunk who's terrorizing her family out of grief from a freaking accident that caused the death of their former baby girl. The drunken quarrels are so fierce the son prefers to spend his evenings reading comic books at the stair well . The widower and his daughter take pity on him, inviting him to stay with them whenever he likes, and before they know it, the silent, moody boy stays permanently at their home. Finally the woman leaves, the police officer follows the habit of his son including eating the home made meals from the widower and within a year both male neighbors have formed a functional, modern household. Their son and daughter are living in harmony, together with the fresh adopted son from the widower. Papa Li and Papa Ling form a real power couple. They encourage the children to move forward as good as it gets. At work, at school, with their friends, at university. Question is: will they go ahead in spite of their mental scars and the trouble on their doorstep caused by far away family members who come to claim their support mainly based on Chinese family traditions.

The Pros

Both the child and adult actors are so good, their emotions so real, it made my heart swell and melt. I love the interaction between the papas so much, I even thought this based on a censored original work about two homosexuals forming a family life. Themes like group pressure, status in life, keeping up appearances, marriage, divorce, midlife crisis, they are all there. The cast is superb, not only the leading actors gave me the feels. I also could relate to the other characters.

The Cons

The first ten episodes put me on a roller coaster of emotions, the mental issues of the children were that gripping. The following episodes however inflated a bit with minor issues about school and friends. And is it just me, or were most female characters portrayed in an inferior way to the male characters? I found them all insecure, ignorant, silly, troublesome, or downright evil. The leading couple, the widower's daughter and the police officer's son, seem too good to be true by contrast. It wouldn't have hurt to see more realistic growing pains between them. Also the many eating scenes with sweet cakes, water melons and other food, made me wish for product placements that make me feel less hungry.

Verdict

Nevertheless I was hooked for 40 episodes, I loved the ending that left me smiling for hours. Go Ahead is a warm and sweet opinion on humans and theirs struggles in life. Go See It!

You shed tears because you now understand, "Because I have my family, I am strong."

I say this in the reviews I write - there are very few dramas that I have deemed deserving of a 9/10 rating or above, and even fewer dramas where I take the time to write a review.

Please watch this drama. This is different, this is refreshing, this is a drama you will never forget. You will want to hug your own parents. You will realize that because of your family, you can carry the world on your shoulders. You will look back at the times where you wished your parents wouldn't give you such a hard time, when you rebelled against them, or the hurtful words you might have said to them, and want to rewind time because now you're more mature and know that all they wanted was your happiness and success. An absolutely heartfelt, beautiful script with stunning performances by every actor and actress involved. You empathize with all of the characters, you shed tears when they cry, you laugh and smile when they do, and you end up feeling as you are part of their families.

Even with some of the caveats and perhaps plot discrepancies, what counts is the way messages are sent - that family isn't a bond that is only determined by blood, but also by the mutual and unconditional love, support, and understanding between individuals. We see multiple examples of this throughout the story, not only with the main family but also with the connections developed between friends. Although one could argue that the romance element that occurs in the drama is questionable, the other meaningful story lines end up overtaking this small nick in the plot.

Just a hands down bravo and overwhelming applause for the staff, and for the cast, particularly Steven Zhang and Tu Song Yan, but really every one excelled. This is not one of those popular romance dramas that makes your heart skip a beat or gives your stomach butterflies - it is memorable because it is so real, so raw, and strips away the protective outer layers of your heart and forces you to reflect on the meaning of love in a way that isn't romantic.

• Ziqiu's caracter was very promising I feel but the way he acted he really took the character to high level.
Jianjian , what should I say she is 30 and she literally acted like a 16 year kid her acting skills are really amazing
• Xiao ling , he really went through a lot but after all he got our girl , I really feel pity for both of them ziqiu as well as xiao.

a realistic, precious drama MUST WATCH

Out of all the dramas i've watched, this one is one of my top 3. Incredibly powerful and moving, it captures the true essence of what it means to be a family. Now, you may be thinking "oh another boring family blah blah drama" well give this a try.
This drama tells the story of 3 siblings -except they aren't actually blood related. 2 of them, the "brothers" were dumped at an early age by their mother and were left in the care of the main female character, Li JianJian and her father (the real mvp of the story). So her father is left to take care of 3 children and treasures them all equally regardless if they are his legitimate children. This drama really hit home for me. Although I am fortunate to be with my parents, it made me think of the struggles parents go through, the struggles parentless children go through and I realized how grateful and thankful I am to have parents and people who love me.
I think why this drama was so popular and such a masterpiece was because of how realistic it was. How realistic the parent-child relationships were, the fighting, the misunderstanding, the parent wanting the best for their children, just everything that happens in life with your family, siblings and parents. Also, something to note, the most hateful antagonist in this story the "villain" who made me hate her from the bottom of my stomach is actually realistic as well. If you watch, you'll see that her character is very common in society.
Also this drama touches on how parents besides being loving, there are parents who just suck and bring trauma to the kids. One of the siblings suffers from ptsd and depression (if im not mistaken) because of the parent. its super raw and emotional.
The conversations the siblings had with each other and their parents made me feel like I was in their position as well
The overarching theme of this drama a beautiful one was that family isnt a matter of blood relations or legal stuff, its who loves you, supports you and listens to you at all times.
The actors were A+. They all played their character super well delivering tears of happiness and sadness in my eyes. The ost was super beautiful as well (added to my playlist)
Anyways, i hope this convinced you to try this out. You won't regret it. message me if u have any questions or just wanna talk about this drama haha i could rave about this forever

A Solid and Beautiful Drama That Will Give You A Heartwarming & Endearing Feeling

"Go Ahead" is a remarkable Chinese drama that stands out as one of the best in the genre. It weaves a heartfelt narrative that revolves around the central theme of family, while also intertwining elements of friendship and romance in a seamless and realistic manner.

The story of "Go Ahead" is a captivating exploration of the profound meaning of family. It delves into the complexities of different family dynamics, portraying a beautiful blend of heartwarming and heart-wrenching moments. What sets this drama apart is its ability to tackle the various conflicts without resorting to melodrama. Instead, the plot maintains a level of authenticity that resonates with viewers. As you watch, you'll find yourself emotionally invested, experiencing both heartbreak and warmth simultaneously. The drama also succeeds in providing plenty of cute and funny scenes, effectively lightening the overall tone.

One of the standout aspects of "Go Ahead" is its consistency in maintaining the pace and plot quality from start to finish. Unlike some Chinese dramas that tend to lose their momentum towards the end, "Go Ahead" remains engaging and well-executed throughout. This consistency is a testament to the excellent writing and execution, making it one of the most well-crafted Chinese dramas you'll come across.

The performances of the cast in "Go Ahead" are truly exceptional. Each actor and actress bring their characters to life with remarkable skill. Steven Zhang's portrayal of He Ziqiu is particularly noteworthy, showcasing his growth as an actor since his previous role in "Skate Into Love." He successfully conveys Ziqiu's complex emotions, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.

Tan Songyun, playing Li Jianjian, consistently impresses with her natural expressiveness and emotional depth. Song Wei Long, who portrays Ling Xiao, proves his acting prowess and paves the way for future successes in his career. The supporting cast, including Li Jianjian's best friends and their individual struggles, is also praiseworthy. Sun Yi's portrayal of Qi Mingyue stands out as brilliant, and her character's story arc adds a layer of depth to the narrative. "Go Ahead" is unique in its ability to make all the characters, even the parents, integral to the storyline, and Chen Ting's performance as the toxic character is worth noting.

The music and soundtracks in "Go Ahead" deserve special mention. The well-chosen songs enhance the emotional depth of the scenes, and their lyrics are beautifully intertwined with the drama's themes. The soundtrack selection adds to the atmosphere and has a way of sticking with viewers, finding a place on their playlists long after the series ends. "The Light Which Cannot Be Seen" is just one example of the standout tracks that enrich the overall experience.

In terms of rewatch value, "Go Ahead" is a definite must-watch again. Its exceptional storytelling, outstanding cast, memorable music, and consistent quality make it an irresistible choice for viewers looking for a genuine and emotionally resonant drama. You'll find yourself drawn back to the world of "Go Ahead" time and time again, unable to get enough of its heartfelt and realistic portrayal of family, friendship, and love.

Just 5 words YOU NEED TO WATCH THIS

This is such an amazing drama, you will need to be prepared to cry. Its just one of the best family dramas I've seen since reply 1988. They picked the best cast for this drama, there is romance in this drama, but the friendship and family is what it is all about. From the beginning you can hit who she will be with in the end. But one thing I have to add is that the child actors are such good actors. The kids made up the entire drama, they are the ones who for me made the drama seem what it is now. Their whole family is just a masterpiece, there are some characters that I hatedddd, but they all grew on me. Just In general you need to make some time to watch this drama, you definitely won't regret it. P.S. You can watch this drama on Viki and YouTube for free, I think you can also watch in on Iqiyi, but I don't know if it's free.

Found family and friendship matter far more than blood ties, series brought up a lot of emotions

This is simply a great family drama. A story where found family and friendship matter far more than blood ties. I loved-to-bits the relationship between the three youngsters as they grow up, between themselves and with their father figure. The various arcs of the series were well-built and developped, with maybe a less inspired last act which could have been better balanced than a succession of misfortunes.

I loved the main characters and the actors and actress really brought likeability into their roles. They had a good chemistry together and you felt the change and shift in their relationships over time. It was very pure and satifsfying with a lot of looks and attentions from both boys toward the girl. The cast playing the older generation did also a good job, I really disliked some of their characters which mean they did a good job portraying them. The "villain(s)" of the series are really ennemies you hate, I could not manage to gather an ounce of sympathy for them as they were (or at least one of the "antagonist") unredeamable in my eyes and not worth of any redemption. Some of the secondary roles were more averagely played but it was ok in overall.

I enjoyed a lot the production value. There are a lot of cooking scenes that are very appealing as well as some striking and memorable moments for many of the relationships. The OST is beautiful: it is sad and nostalgic but very pretty at the same time, it is tugging your heart strings. The opening and ending generics are great and unskippable but you really need to listen to it without watching the images in order to avoid spoiling yourself (which I managed to avoid fortunately).

I would recommend this to people looking for a great family drama. There are quite a lot of characters and they take their time to develop each of them. It is a very satisfying watch which can brought a lot of emotions. The ending was a bit tiring in terms of scenario for the last arc and a bit too quick at the same time. I would have loved a smoother landing but I was not disappointed in any case.
