"Wangan Midnight The Movie" based on hit manga written by Michiharu Kusunoki, the film stars Yuichi Nakamura of D-BOYS, Kazuki Kato, and Ryoko Kobayashi. The story centers on a young man named Akio Asakura, a 3rd-year high school student who salvages "Devil Z", a custom-tuned Datsun Fairlady S30Z car with a supposedly cursed history despite not having a driver's license and having no idea how to operate a manual transmission... This is the first time i saw a movie about racing/cars, and I must say, I did like it. But that's probably because it had a bit of a mystery feel to it, due to the cursed car. (that's actually the reason why I watched it lol) As soon as this started I actually fell in love with it, maybe because it opened with a beautiful cityscape. I really love night views of the city, they are soooo pretty, and throughout the movie all I could see was beautiful cityscapes as most of it was set during midnight (well duh it's in the title lol) So if you love cars or beautiful cityscapes or even hot guys lol this is the movie for you xD One thing I wish this movie had a bit more of is romance, I saw soo many opportunities for romance blooming, but nope nothing happened. oh well, I guess i shall leave it to my imagination then.

Good Start to Car Racing Movies

If you have never watched any car racing/street racing movies, this is a decent one to start with. The cast did well with acting. The story was interesting enough; mysteriousness mixed in with superstition. Beautiful cars and city scape. Good camera work, especially showing what the drivers' feet did and shifting of gears, when racing.

However they tried to make the Blue Z car like Steven King's Christine (the DEVIL aspect) and failed. Also the green screens used for just driving down the street, not the racing portion, were super noticeable. Leaving the parking lot and even some of the street racing, they just sped up the film and it looked extra cheesy. Decent FX at the end of the movie, but the wounds of the young driver looked like ketchup. Adding the Female teacher wasn't needed and could've been left out completely. The music often didn't fit with the scene, I ended up muting some of it.

It's an action movie, so I didn't expect any character growth or serious development. It was fun enough and great car engine sounds. Maybe this movie inspired some of the Fast and Furious franchise movies.
