Came for IU, stayed for the heartwarming story

I'll be honest, I see IU and I click watch. What I was not prepared for however, was a touching, heartwarming story that is both grounded and optimistic. By the end of this movie, you will be rooting for the worst soccer team imaginable, and love every minute of it.
The performances also take the cake, with this being (IMO) Park Seo Joon's best work yet. He has the perfect mix of a-hole, crazy, and heart. IU is a breath of fresh air, who's quick quips and back-and-forths with PSJ add much of the comedy to this film.

a fun time!!!

Definitely a perfect movie to have a fun time with family or friends as it contains plently of wholesome scenes between characters that will surely touch your heart. Nothing too extraordinary but just good enough to make two hours of your life spent well.

As for criticisms, the run-time of the film dragged the quality for a little bit. Some of the scenes could have been cut or shortened to create a more concise storytelling. IU's character not being explored further is a mistake as the character shows interesting premise that could have been fleshed out and make her character fully-developed

I've never seen soccer like it.

Park Seo Joon and IU - their dynamic was fun to watch. He's got a giant chip on his shoulder, and she's got a lot of heart. For the most part, they were like oil and water and that was funny. Thank you, writers, for not trying to bring a romance into this! I felt that the whole cast did a really good job. The rag tag group of soccer players, each with their own heartbreaking story, were brought together for the goal of playing soccer, and in the process, they changed themselves, they changed each other, and they definitely changed the coach.

My problem was with the soccer matches themselves. First, the field in Budapest was tiny, like a kid's soccer field. That necessitated a lot of close shots by the cameras, which I think was supposed to get us to feel like we were in the matches. But the rules of soccer apparently did not apply at all. There was pushing, there was shoving, there was holding onto players, and there were no consequences for any of this. That, do me, diminished the realism of the games.

It was an okay watch for me.

Because PSJ

I had pretty high expectations of this movie and figured that it would be a feel good sort of movie. Some parts of the movie shone and were excellent while other parts were, to be honest, a little "meh". I wanted to give it a 7.5/10 but because of the ML, I bumped it to 8/10. I am not his fan but I recognise that he is a fine actor and in this movie, he did a fine job (yet again).

Why did ML mark his own team in the start of the movie? (If someone can help me out here, it'll be great, thanks.)

ML was portrayed as a fairly prickly character with a fairly good heart. He was a great soccer player and he needed his time to shine just like the homeless soccer players. He needed to see his worth and his potential. The movie showed that everyone faced different challenges and everyone struggled to make his/ her life count. It showed that having good spirit and having others support and validate one are pretty vital in driving one "up and on". The highlight and touching moments were towards the end when the goalie kept catching the soccer ball with his whole body as though his entire life depended on it. I was moved to tears. When ML ran alongside his player to get him to kick the winning shot, I was moved too.

Overall, this movie is an okay watch. I expected more. Perhaps I expected it to be more excited and more thrilling. But, it was okay.

Feel good, heartwarmingly good

Is this a sports movie? Kind of. But honestly, this is more of a heartwarmingly beautiful story. I would have watched this even if it was a 16 episode show- and it honestly could have been.

Park Seo Joonhas to be my favourite part of this movie. He does amazingly well in such roles, I think this is one of my favourite performances in a kdrama. The vibe reminds me much of fight for my way, which also was amazing.

Indeed IU is wonderfully good in this too, and I loved her banter with Park seo joon.

I honestly was left wanting for more and will probably watch more sports dramas.

A bunch of misfits trying their best at football: enjoyable for its last third but forgettable

This sport movie takes an interesting angle tackling on a quite unknown (at least to me) event "The Homeless International World Cup", which is apparently an annual international football event. Even though I found the premise of the film quite engaging, it certainly did not gain me immediately over. Indeed, the tone of the story was almost too comedic / satirical at first making it difficult for me to get emotionally invested in the characters. However, the last third of the movie makes it up and is pretty great with a couple of tear inducing moments.

The cast (and more specifically the two main roles played by Park Seo Joon and IU) was what drove me to watch this. I am clearly satisfied by their performances but it is is for sure not their best and most memorable work. Especially for IU, her role was too subdue to really offer her a lot opportunities to shine. Park Seo Joon has a little more room to play as his character is much more dominant to the storyline. Overall the ensemble cast did a commendable job bringing the story to life despite the writing flaws.

The filmmaking was very good: all the football sequences were rather compelling to follow as well as the more slice-of-life moments. I enjoyed the bright and colourful atmosphere as well as the soundtrack, not unforgettable but pleasant while watching the film.

I would recommend this movie to people that are looking for a different kind of sport movie. If you are fan of one of the actors / actresses, it is worth giving it a shot. Rather than really being about football, it is much more slice-of-life with a lot of misfits characters trying their best all together.

well-executed comedic elements and heartfelt emotions

Dream is an awesome sports comedy on Netflix that's super funny and makes you feel all warm inside. It's got Park Seo-joon and IU, who are just the coolest actors ever. The movie starts with lots of hilarious jokes and funny stuff, especially from Park Seo-joon. He's just a riot!

But then things get serious and touching too. The story is about this underdog homeless team, and you really cheer for them to win. It's not just about winning, though. It's about working together and being a team, which is cool.

The movie doesn't make fun of the homeless people or anything, which is great. It shows their struggles but still makes you laugh and feel good. IU and Park Seo-joon's chemistry is just perfect, even if there's no big romantic story.

Overall, Dream is a movie you gotta see if you want to laugh a lot and also feel inspired. It's got heart, good jokes, and great actors. So grab some popcorn and enjoy

No dream is too small or big

This review will be my thoughts during the movie in order:

1. PSJ! How long has it been since I saw him! How amazing it feels that he's back!

2. IU! Quirky and no-nonsense. Her role felt smaller but IU gives the character its own life and personality through her incredible acting.

3. The backgrounds of all the characters are duly established without interrupting the flow of the story.

4. There are good laughs as well through the team's bickering. Their bond and brotherhood is well portrayed. When they all come together to help Yoon Hong Dae, it's a laugh riot. "Why are you telling that to my thing?" I had to pause and laugh at that.

5. However, the plot feels quite formulaic, the narration is routine and the characterisation of the two mains lacks more depth.

6. But that's just a little downside. The film achieves all its objectives: 1. It makes a statement about the homeless and addresses the main argument against them- the smell and their untidyness. 2. This is the second PSJ outing to have a queer character (if I'm not wrong). There's not as much focus on him but what's important here is the others' reaction to the character's confession.

7. Thirdly, it defines a dream and justifies the title. The climax is very satisfying. The single most original plot point of the story and it is delivered with a resounding goal.

8. I think if we look closer, it also speaks of how we are all ultimately made and broken by fellow humans.

9. The film can be rewatched, if one can bear with the customary screenplay. The music is good and hummable.

A dream is any hope we foster to go on with our days. It could be of a daughter wanting to spend time with her father, a father repenting his past, an athlete tiding through the tough times of his life, a companionship between an unlikely pair or a young man's desperate search for a friend. No dream is too big or small.

This is not a story of underdogs beating the table-toppers to clinch glory. This is a celebration of normal humans, their ordinary dreams and their extrordinary perseverence. That is its beauty.

Heartwarming story about the homeless finding their home of hope

Such a cute and heartwarming movie. It has its flaws and drawbacks but the emotion it wanted to convey touched me. For a sports film, the screenplay was written in a very non-cinematic manner but everything conveyed was very real.

The pacing of the movie was a little slow and overall the entire screenplay has some issues. It's not as entertaining as the director's last film "Extreme Job" but the reality of homelessness and the backstories of each of the homeless people were decent. I hoped IU got a bigger role as she is such a fine actress but nevertheless, I can never find any flaws in her, just keep doing as many films and dramas as possible for your fans.

PSJ on the other hand displayed good football skills but his acting was a little hammy and lacking. But he is indeed the focal point of the story and did a decent job in some emotional scenes but the film can't redeem itself based on him and IU.

I watched it only for IU, she has some really funny lines between her and PSJ. Overall a good one-time watch but nothing special.

Inspiring & Tingle-inducing

It was definitely worth the 3 and a half year wait for this movie. I promise you that if you decide to watch this movie, you will be able to feel the emotions and desperation of the characters.
I don't think I've ever been affected this much by a movie before, there were many times where my entire body had the chills, tingles and goosebumps.
This movie is too good to only have an 8.1 rating, please give it a watch and you will surely like it. Honestly, I didn't expect it to be this good, it was simply a movie I wanted to watch as I'd waited so long for it but it blew me away, it was such an amazing movie, I was truly inspired and it had me rooting for the characters the entire movie.
It doesn't even matter if you aren't a fan of football, there's so much more to this movie, the feelings behind it and the dedication and teamwork and the will to never give up is out of this world. The character development is also really nice to see, I hope the world comes to be more understanding and compassionate to homeless people.
I can say with confidence that this has become my favourite Asian movie!

Nothing new.

I just watched the movie, but only due to IU. I would have liked to be more present in the movie not to have more of a background role. The movie overall it's mediocre. Nothing that you have not seen multiple times. A few sobbing stories sprinkled with a few jokes. The story revolves around homeless people and their depressing stories and of course a bit of lgbtq propaganda in the end that's not absent in movies produced by Netflix (vomit). I will give it a 6 just because of IU otherwise i would have given a 4 to this movie.

Dream" is about team spirit as a positive force that allows a group to excel itself. The KMovie is carefree, harmless and heartily. However, it is not trivial, as it sides with those commonly referred to in society as the weak.

You shouldn't expect too much, then everything works quite well. Obviously, IU and Park So-joon are the show's carthorses. But that doesn't do justice to the rest of the cast, who all contribute their unique esprit. “Dream” comes across as teamwork through and through.

Although it was filmed at original locations in Budapest, somehow, in my opinion, the casting (unfortunately) often enough doesn't work so well, when Korean productions are dependent on actors from different origin. For whatever reason. Even if it's only supporting roles or extras in this case, they seem to be rather amateurish. Hm.

All in all: “Dream” is a KMovie for high spirits and light fare. Not intrusive. With a few flaws here and there. However, also with some well-placed, wonderful and valuable messages in passing.
