Unique, intriguing and mysterious. I wouldn't be surprised if many people overlooked this drama expecting another generic detective show, I can't express how sorry I feel that they will miss out. This drama will challenge your preconceptions and keep you interested to the very last minute.

This drama isn't for everybody, I can imagine the quirks and humour won't appeal to many. I, however, really thought they influenced the overall feel in a positive way. It isn't your typical drama, if you take everything too literally you will miss out on a lot of the symbolism and underlying messages. It's one of those drama you can keep coming back to, every time you re-watch you will notice something new, a small detail you missed the first time around. These little details, in my opinion, really show how wonderful both the plot and execution are.

Acting wise, no complaints there, they all did a fine job portraying their characters. As for the music, the choices really helped build up atmosphere and fit well with the drama's mysterious vibe.

All in all, a drama I highly recommend if you want something completely different to the majority of other drama out there.

This drama is a twist to the typical police/mystery drama. The town of focus, Atami, has kooky residents, cults, a creepy boarding school and evil politicians.
The plot was fantastic and left me intrigued after every episode.

The overall vibe of the drama is strange with tons of dry humor (totally Odagiri's style).
Odagiri and Kuriyama portray an attractive detective duo, who have solid chemistry and plenty of bickering between themselves.

The ending left me wanting a second season.
Also, upon visiting several forum discussions, it seems that there is a lot of cultural symbols and subtle messages in this drama that hint at certain things. A re-watch of this drama after some research/pondering is definitely suggested.

Overall, this is a twist to the typical police/mystery drama with tons of crazy characters and dry humor.

Another masterpiece of Miki Satoshi!

Is it another police/mystery type of series? to be frankly, at first it did felt like it. but for those who familiar with the director, did any miki Satoshi's works ever strike you as normal?

From a missing bus case in South Atami, the series slowly unravel the actual truth that have been foreshadowing the main characters since their arrival (odagiri joe and kuriyama chiaki) and the citizens (ensemble casts that usually appear on Satoshi's works) living in the city that somehow 'failed to move on' and 'stucked with outdated fashion sense'.

What's more, the ending provoked audience to decide what's actually happened the entire time. Perhaps (after passing the tunnel), the mystery will become clear. Wait, did i just cross a line?

This was a peculiar drama full of mystery. It kept me wanting to watch more and more and find the truth about everything that is happening with this mysterious case. i guessed many times and i was write only three of the times. the situation is crazy and this drama is like a series of things connected together in some way. The main protagonist had to connect everything together and find the truth behind the case. I find the plot to be rather different than most j-dramas and this is why i gave it a high score.

The acting in this drama was certainly unique and interesting. sure there were characters who barely managed to appear good but that is not something to be concerned much about since the main actors are all very good with odagiri, the old lady police woman and the crazy scientist were the most exceptional in my opinion. All the funny moments always manage to make you laugh, which is something good.

Music wise...it was actually pretty assisting to the whole drama in a way that it increased the suspence.

This drama is for those who like solving mysterious cases and even if by the end you know somethings I think that rewatching it would still be as entertaining as the first time. It would be better if you did not rewatch immediately but let some time pass so you have forgotten a few things.

This drama was insane! The story was intriguing, mesmerizing, and extremely unique. These eight episodes were something I have never seen before, yet somehow were just a little bit familiar.

The cast was picked perfectly! Each person filled a gap in the show that they built together to make into the mystifying, ridiculous, confusing, suspenseful, and genius show it became.

If you're a fan of odd yet hilarious humor, perfectionist actors and actresses, strange and confusing stories that are almost paranormal... Then this show is the right fit. Also, if you're a fan of Yamazaki Kento and Odagiri Joe then (in my opinion) this is one of their best shows!
