Love is not supposed to be this toxic.

The show has too many red flags. The writing is really bad. People were hating on the bad guys when in truth as you watched this show, the only people that keeps the storyline flowing were the antagonists. Sure, there was an episode(s) of sweet moments between Namcha and Irin but that ends up overshadowed because of how Irin treats Namcha, and when it comes to those moments, nothing frigging happens afterward. I feel like they were just going around in circles. Irin, despite being older wasn't acting mature for her age. She's indecisive and could not make up her mind. I find it amusing that in the first episode, she fired an employee just because she didn't like the scent she smelled which showcased a real Karen-like behavior. I know some women were hard to please in real life and difficult to understand, but strong, educated and highly successful women like how they portray Irin to be shouldn't be like that. Namcha's ain't cute (the actor Win is though lols, I love him). He stalks her, follows her around, and gaslights everyone because of his love for her. I get it, unconditional love, sure. But that unconditional love will be your downfall if you don't keep it in check. Besides, I don't find any redeemable quality in Irin that will make me give her unconditional love like how Namcha does. The sister needs psychiatric help. She has suicidal thoughts and she's volatile at best. Irin should've seen that instead of trying to just protect her. You're supposed to be the smart one here and she looks up to you. The characters have flaws, I'm cool with that. But how did you end up bringing all four innately bad characters with so many negative personalities together and expect this to be resolved? I would've preferred if the story started with Namcha meeting Irin in the present and slowly discovering and knowing her as the story progressed than them having a past, age gap, and all, then trying to make the story interesting by injecting drama after drama that doesn't seem to get fixed. Anyway, I still encourage people to watch this and give it a go. Some people like it. Some people don't. Just a word of warning, it has lots of gaslighting, manipulation, and toxicity. I only love Win so I stayed. I hope he gets a better project than this next time.

Poor Script, Unlikeable Characters

Probably one of the worst dramas I've seen. There are two things I look for in a good drama: plot and characters. Interesting plots whether it's a simple or intricate one will hook the viewers into staying. The plot should flow smoothly and makes sense from start to finish. Characters that would make you want to root for them, relate with them, or hate them is another thing that makes a drama good. Sadly, both of these are non existent in this drama. The plot is so unbelievable that it will make you question why this was allowed to be aired. I get why this was cancelled way back. This should have never seen the light of day. The script is so poor that I roll my eyes so many times while watching. So many issues remain unresolved and were just there just for the sake of drama. What happened to Irin's ptsd? The evil uncle of Namcha? The will of the grandpa? Did that man from the countryside ever get to translate the book? These were presented throughout the show but the viewers remain in the dark even after the last episode. There were so many unnecessary scenes that were just there for fluff but the leads' lack of chemistry and personalities don't make me want to root for them. The writer didn't stop there. So much drama that should have been given more time were presented at the climax of the story with no proper build up. You just have to accept that Irin is now fighting for the man she "loves" because her sister did some despicable actions such as faking her accident and pregnancy. Like you already know beforehand that she's mentally unstable and you chose to reveal these things on her wedding day? Other "twists" just had me laughing and rolling my eyes. The characters are mostly one dimensional except for Inn and Jin who were the only ones who kept the plot moving. The main leads were just despicable people. Irin is a wishy washy person who led Namcha on for 17 episodes before she realized that she had to fight for him. She appears to love her sister but I wasn't convinced. Namcha is a creepy stalker who can't get over his "first love." But for reasons unknown to the viewer, I still don't know what made Irin so special that he can't get over her no matter how much she pushed him away. What was really the reason why you fell for her? Namcha also likes to use other people and animals to get closer to irin. He even sometimes neglects his job to spend time stalking Irin. There really wasn't any character growth with both leads, who remain just like they were in the first episode. Supporting characters were your typical characters that you would normally see and were just there when the plot needs them. I am so proud of myself for finishing this drama. If not for win, who I was a fan of in 2gether and piploy, who stood out among all the other cast with her amazing acting skills, I would have dropped this show already. Trust me, there are so many better dramas out there.

Bad writing and Messaging

I'm very disappointed at GMMTV for giving Win this role and the other actors since this is the first time watching all the other actors except for Win. This show has a terrible storyline, at first it sounded really promising but it just fell short when actually being invented in the show itself. I think that GMM needs to invest in better writers since most of their shows are recycled and or just straight up safe. I would like them to go out of the box and make something that we, the viewers haven't seen.

Storyline/Plot: The plot sounded promising but actually watching the show it gets worse. I hate the fact that I was 12 episodes deep into the show and still I don't even know why Namcha is so invested into Irin. Like, what is so good about her that you have to be so clingy with her and Biase??? Furthermore, the plot is only moving forward because of Jin and Inn's character who I enjoy more since they are spicing up the show more unlike the main leads. Also, they spent an entire episode focusing on the Namcha and Irin having a nice moment together instead of utilizing that episode for something better. As for the message, I hate the fact that many are defending Namcha and Irin's actions. It didn't sit right with me when Namcha had got upset with Inn in the hospital after her car accident to tell her that they would never be together, I just felt like it was not the right time and also the fact that Inn already knew about his feelings for Irin this WHOLE ENTIRE SHOW. Furthermore, Inn was not in the mental condition to be even having that conversation at the moment so for him to bring it up in that moment was Disgusting. Moreover, people blaming Inn for things that she didn't even do and also the straight hypocrisy in not keeping the same energy for certain characters.

Acting/Cast: In short, all the actors did their part as the acting was good especially with Piploy and Pod. I don't care for Min and Win since they both didn't have much chemistry together, in my opinion and the poor writing just overshadowed their acting ability.

Music: I did enjoy Win's song as the opening song.

In conclusion, this show was just bad especially for Wins first show as a Male lead being paired with a woman. Next time, I just hope that he gets a better role that show case his acting ability better.

The devil is not the sister you think!

Heartwarming drama that doesn't shy away from portraying what people find unlikable in a woman. It presents us the lead who's supposed to be cold and work- focused, but she has the biggest heart which only male lead sees. I totally get why he likes her so much, he SEES her, the real her.

As for what she likes in him, it's obvious and cute. whatever challenges she faces, he's there to support her. he doesn't fight her battles for her, like many toxic thai drama heroes. he's there for her emotionally and doesn't let anyone mess with her, defending her from her own family.

Her family sucks, but in an interesting way: you have one patriarch that uses his offspring as pawns and hurts them, a sister that feels victimised and acts horribly and the main sister that sacrifices to keep her family together and get the family business to thrive.

The message of the series is so good: that family isn't made by blood, but love and respect and that there's always going to be one person that understands and loves you. you have to keep them close

TL;DR: watch it if you want a more mature approach to romance and layered family drama

WORST ROMANCE

Okay so let me start off by saying that the main couple in this series is disgusting. Irin has groomed Namcha when he was 15 and she was 22. That is just illegal and also if the genders were switched everyone would think it’s creepy. The two main actors do not have chemistry and it’s obvious that Irin’s actress is 10+ years better than Win. Her acting was great though despite the horrible script. Win’s acting not so much honestly, the way he delivers lines is so stuff and he was far better in F4.

The fact that Namcha won’t leave Irin alone for a few minutes is so annoying. He won’t even give her five minutes to be alone and process her feelings and he’s always stalking her to tell her how she should be with him because he loves her. He has never cared about if she herself loves him. In the end it feels like she was forced to care for him because she felt bad for him because of how much he’d stalked her. Also, he doesn’t accept that Inn loves him but he loves Irin the same way Inn loves him.

Honestly Namcha is one of the worst characters I’ve ever seen. He is utterly useless and neglects his work to stalk Irin around all day. It’s very suffocating watching him.

Now for the good parts of the show, Inn and Jin are the most interesting characters and the story’s saving grace. Inn is a tragic character who needed psychiatric help but only got abusive people around her, including Namcha who treats her like an insect when she’s in the hospital. You can see her sometimes hesitant about what she’s doing but the others actions push her to go further. By the end she is completely crazy and really needs help as it’s obvious that she’s not truly evil and only needs some attention. Jin is interesting as well despite not having proper backstory. He uses Inn to separate Irin and Namcha but falls for Inn and stops being evil. Inn’s actress was great.

I recommend it only if you skip the creepy “romantic” scenes between Namcha and Irin. Fairly entertaining but nothing special.

still a recommendation

Damn. I honestly don’t understand what do many people expected to see in many series to said that they really enjoy watching the series. Every series I watch, the opinions were always in a negative way. Just don’t continue if you don’t like it but don’t have to argue that your lovest actor was a waste of time to play in this series. Yes, most of the parts in the rise, climate and fall of the series are just the same thing happening over and over again, but I just can't tell what is the thing that kept me watching this series every single week without thinking of dropping out the series. I might not have like this series a lot but I have rewatched some of the scenes that I like. Other than the plot, everything else was good, the two casts were very great. This series was P'Win's first male lead series and has made him a lot of improvement on his acting and the music was very good, letting the two main lead sing there own song was turning out great. Overall this series might not be great for many of the people, but people that don't expect much in the series, could use there time and watch this series.

The Taming of the Shrew, but worse

Devil Sister…wow, just wow, there is a lot to unpack from this series. Cringy is one thing, but this show was problematic. Combined with its basic plot, this show just did not land and it seems a surprise to me that we got in 2022. Originally, this show was slated for 2020, which it might have fit in with other shows of its time. However, having taken over the time slots for “The Player” and “War of Flowers,” both of which had strong female characters, this show seems like a few steps back. This show has a lot of misogyny and male entitlement, not to mention gaslighting and basic manipulation. I felt like I was watching some weird adaptation “The Taming of Shrew.”
Also, “Devil Sister” where does this title come from? I get it is based off the novel “Beauty and the Guy,” but it seems like the plot was changed a bit for this adaptation. So, the real question comes down to which of these sisters is supposed to be “devilish?” I assumed Irin because in the first couple episodes she does some pretty nasty stuff, but then it never goes anywhere. The story just focuses on the endless circles she drags her two love interests through and she never really develops as a character. Is the “Devil Sister” Inn then? Well maybe? For the vast majority of the show she gets mad and does some pretty self-destructive stuff, but then they decide to use mental illness as a catalyst for Inn’s nastier actions, which is just another problematic plot point that doesn’t create any character development.
Let’s be clear, the problem is not the actors or actresses. None of them are rookies and they deliver performances that you’d expect. The real problem is they play such unlikeable characters. Namcha is the most toxic character. He is clearly immature and entitled and we’re supposed so feel sorry for him because…. he’s handsome? Caring? Well maybe to animals and Irin, but he manipulates everyone else around him. He has 3 women pining after him and uses them to get what he wants. Additionally, he spends much of the series insisting Irin MUST love him because he’s so in love with her. The show tries to pass it off as romantic puppy love, but it turns creepy and petty.
Irin is not much better. I get she has a tragic backstory, but that shouldn’t be an excuse for aggressive behavior. In the first episode, she gaslights her former security guard hard, and frankly I never redeemed her after that. From there she just doesn’t appear to be a mature adult. We are assured Irin loves her sister, but I don’t see it. I’m not saying Irin had to pander to her sister, but she needed to act like a 30-something adult and communicate. She hurts all the other characters because she has, for a reason that’s never really explained, to play this tough and nasty boss character.
To go with Irin is her sister, Inn. I wouldn’t really classify Inn as toxic. She is clearly suffering from mental and physical illness and has some self-destructive habits, but I am still not convinced she was manipulative or evil. She’s a tragic heroine being emotionally abused by everyone else: Namcha, Irin, her grandfather and even Jin. Yeah, she’s a bit immature, but the writers clearly use her mental illness as a plot device to progress the plot rather than taking it seriously.
Finally, there’s Jin. I can’t tell what the writers wanted for his character. I think he's a foil to Namcha’s character, but frankly I ended up with more sympathy for him rather than disgust. His love for Irin is persistent, but sincere. He’s gotten grandpa’s approval to marry Irin but finds she’s being stalked by an ex-boyfriend (Irin never tells Jin that she still has feelings for Namcha). So, Jin logically responds with trying to keep distance between the girl he genuinely loves (and he wants to win her love, not force her) and this creepy guy who follows her all around the place. At points it’s suggested he maybe has ulterior motives, but when the outcome of his actions is shown, he’s never seen taking advantage of them to his benefit. Therefore, it’s hard to hate him and he seems caught in the middle of family drama.
While the main couple clearly faces societal problems, this series really doesn’t start to redeem them in that light until episode 13 and only after they’ve shown how horrible they were. I could maybe let that slide, but the toxic themes that run throughout the show make it a problematic show for 2022. GMMTV should’ve just let this series slide into the dustbin, but I hope they take some lessons from it that outdated tropes are outdated for a reason. Stick with your more progressive themes GMMTV, it will make for a better show.

Poor Win!

I feel sorry for Win.

This drama is totally based on Cha being younger than Irin. It pained me every time the characters called Cha a child, when Cha was fully an adult and knew his own mind. As a citizen of the US, it is my opinion that some of the cultural standards in other countries are outdated, but at the same time, these dramas are based on their culture, not mine. So honestly, if I'm going to watch these dramas, I should keep that in mind. However, I don't understand why there has to be so much unhappiness, so little acceptance.

And OMG, just whose side was Jin on, anyway??? So wishy-washy! There were times when he wasn't even on his own side!

There were so many plot holes and things that didn't make sense. Who was running the companies when Namcha and Irin were off doing their own thing?? Why was Jin's office inside the publishing company? Why didn't they make Inn take another pregnancy test prior to the wedding?? Why was there a 7 year age gap, but also 7 years of non-contact between Namcha and Irin? Did they just date for a few months then never see each other for 7 years? If so, why was Cha still so head-over-heels for Irin? (Didn't Cha say he was abroad for only a couple of years?)

Anyway, I appreciated the acting. Win is getting better. Overall, there weren't too many scenes where they were awkwardly standing there waiting for the next line. And the translator guy? BEST character!!!! Grandpa made me hate him, just like he should have. And I thought Tan and Paeng were great!

Overall, if they wanted to showcase Win in a drama, it should have been a better one. And not one where he's, ironically, a vet, as he is not an animal person. He did a great job at hiding that.

Weak plot

I really wanted to like this series because of the actors but unfortunately the plot was too weak and a let down. The actors were good but could not save this show. The plot of 18 episodes - literally is the same from the first episode to the last episode. You can probably skip the whole middle part and go straight to the end and you wouldn’t have missed anything. The multiple scenes of Irin suddenly falling into Namcha’s arms is just cringy to watch. Inn is an annoying brat who is not good enough to be a villian. It also doesnnt make sense how the lawyer gets so involved in family affairs when he’s just a lawyer. The plot is really bad and I’m just sad that Win got cast in this show - he can really do better. I could not see the point of this show at all. It’s one of GMMTV’s weakest offerings I’ve seen so far.

what should i say

expecting it a little bit high because of the teaser but… sadly i need to skip so many part. i still can manage to folow it up until ep 5 or 6 but after that, i don’t know why so many pattern repeated and it become boring. also, it has 18 episode.. i’m trying so hard to even reach half way of the series. story line / script should be for 10 ep only, maybe it can be more intense and good to watch. actors & actresses done it well, but i think the story just too weak?
unfortunately can’t give good reviews but i can’t give more than this. good job anyway far all the team included in this project

GREAT SHOWW!

Personally I really liked this show I thought that the story line and the acting were both really good and I would recommend this show to anyone who likes these type of plots.

And I really liked the explanation of the story:
Irin is said to be hot-tempered and fearless — "The Devil". It's all an act, though; she puts up a mean front to build up her younger sister, Inn, by contrast. However, her young vet and neighbour Namcha couldn't care less. No matter how catty she behaves, his love persists. He's loved her ever since they were students and has no plans of changing his heart. In fact, they used to date until Irin broke things off without any explanation.

Namcha has never forgotten his first love, but Irin doesn't believe his feelings are unchanged; Namcha makes it his mission to prove it to her. Love should come easy for the two, but family, work, and even friends all seem primed to tear them apart.
