cliche disney ending

FL is too smart for her own good, she applies her good values to others. The pacing was off, last 7-8 episodes were rushed and the early villains/schemes were dragged out too long. Costume and makeup were too clean, I don't think I saw anyone sweating. The villains that should get punished gets a slap on the wrist(I'm looking at you pupil student wanting revenge), good characters outside of a few main leads are dull/easily manipulated.

good to see some familiar faces, old doctor by the border town played by 2010's three kingdoms actor, who played one of the 5 tiger generals under liu bei.

This is a very good drama with great cinematography, customs, interesting and intelligent plot, and music. As long as the viewer is not looking for shivering romantic scenes, the drama is strong in relationships and character development. The leading couple has good chemistry, loves each other dearly, and is very smart and resolute. Although the ending is good, it could’ve been better since it feels rushed. The main and supporting cast did a great job bringing their characters to life. Overall, the drama is entertaining. Enjoy it!

Beautiful sets & costumes w/ some enjoyable stories told, but also feels convoluted

As someone completely unaware of 红楼梦 aka Hongloumeng (Dream of the Red Chamber) while I was watching, I wondered why there were so many side characters' stories in this drama. It makes much more sense now, thanks to other reviewers explaining how this drama is somewhat based from that novel. To get some cultural context about the book and how it connects back to the drama, you can check out the other reviews.

Overall? It's enjoyable enough but not as great as it could've been. There are many things to love: the great costumes and overall production, the strong acting for the ensemble cast, and an aching soundtrack. Unfortunately, the plot can feel jarring because you can feel the distinct arcs and storylines--which, reading from other reviewers, is due to the influence of the novel.

Anyway, you can see how Sun Yulou and Lin Shaochun's relationship takes over the first like 1/5 of the drama (about 15 episodes or so...) and then it starts shifting into essentially to Lin Shaochun as the fixer within the Sun family, solving things like the relationship between the First Young Master & First Young Madam, the lack of relationship of Second Young Master & Second Young Madam, & the greedy Third Young Madam and her useless husband the Third Young Master.

Because I enjoyed their relationship a lot and liked both actors Wang Yizhe and Bai Lu, I was disappointed that as the drama went on, they would sometimes fade into the background as other supporting characters' storylines were prioritized. It wasn't all bad though. Some of the supporting characters and their relationships were also a lot of fun. I was just as emotional about their relationships as I was with Sun Yulou and Lin Shaochun. However, I really missed them.

Ultimately, this production did good overall with most aspects (I really liked the cinematography and directing too) but the part that lacked the most was the plot itself and how disconnected it felt in trying to tie the characters all together.

The ending of the drama itself was also...well. It was happy but not satisfactory. That's all I'll say about that.

I didn't regret watching this drama as I got to see so many beautiful faces in this drama and enjoyed the heartbreak and emotions of the relationships, but just wished it had a stronger plot to tie the characters better together.

A very heartwarming series you'd want to watch again and again and again!!

It's my first time watching a C-drama set during the Ming Dynasty, and I absolutely love the makeup, costumes, and cinematography of this series. The tone and combination of colors are warm and pleasing to the eyes, perfectly matching the heartwarming storyline. I think this series is underrated, and I really hope it reaches a wider audience! The blend of romance, comedy, drama, and family themes captures the "joys and sorrows" of life perfectly. The casting director did an excellent job with the leads, the members of the Sun family, and almost all roles. The actors' portrayals and the overall chemistry and interactions on-screen made me relate to and react to them even more. This is definitely a series I would recommend immediately if someone asks me what C-drama to watch.

What made me love this series even more is the story of the male and female leads. Their relationship is one that most, if not everyone, would hope to have. I love how the male lead is always pursuing, loving, and faithful. I also enjoyed the comedy, especially the scenes with the First Young Madam, Third Brother, and Madam—those were hilarious! I could watch this series again and again and again!

The reason I didn't give it a perfect score is because (1) there were a couple of moments where the dub was just too off, haha; (2) I think they should have cast a different actress for Di Zhou or could have at least did her make-up & wardrobe differently to achieve her description ('very pretty/prettiest') which was repeatedly mentioned; and (3) the Mu City/Sun Jun Hao scenes felt a bit dragging for me at times. Maybe because they didn't align with the theme where the female lead is solving problems for the family, and they made me see less of the main leads and the Capital setting. I actually had to fast-forward through some of those scenes just to get back to the main leads and the Capital storyline.

Overall, I'm so grateful I stumbled upon this series. It's my first Bai Lu series, and her talent, acting skills, and beauty exceeded my expectations—especially during the scene where the Eldest Princess sent her gifts, haha. I also fell in love with Wang Yi Zhe's character in this series, and I hope he gets more great projects like this one.

This story was really GOOD!

Did you guys notice that Yu Lou Chun the title in this drama was the name of the Main Characters?
YU LOU is Sun Yu Lou's Name (Wang Yi Zhe) and CHUN is Lin Shao Chun's Name (Bai Lu).
In the first episode, I was already so obsessed with the story because there is comedy. But their romance was so touching I really like their story plot. I've already watched 10 episodes but it was still airing and I am so excited about what will happen in the drama. I ship both of the main characters. By the way some of the characters in the drama I know also because I watch some of their dramas. Lin Shao Chun hides her identity because she is the daughter of the Lin family. Her father was executed because he caused a crime but Lin Shao Chun doesn't believe that her father was framed that's why she wants to know who framed her father. But she was fated to meet Sun Yu Lou (The Fourth son of the Sun Family). Sun Yu Lou keeps on chasing her after he meets her. He falls in love with Lin Shao Chun but Lin Shao Chun keeps on objecting to him until she also falls in love with him. Lin Shao Chun was a stage performer. Sun Yu Lou was from a rich family and his family has very strict rules. And Yu Lou listened to Shao Chun and Joined the Imperial exam. But the good thing is Sun Yu Lou got 23rd in the imperial exam and his task to investigate everything on what happened to Lin Shao Chun's Father. But During his investigation, Lin Shao Chun joined to be chosen by the emperor's wife but Yu Lou finished investigate Shao Chun's Father and cleaned the name of Lin Shao Chun's Father. After this Yu Lou wanted to marry Shao Chun but the problem was Yu Lou's Parents doesn't want him to marry Shao Chun because of her identity.
I want to know what will happen next but it will be airing tonight. I will expect to have a good ending with this drama because even both of the Main lead has problems with their family but their story will continue.
