DO NOT WATCH THIS CRAPPY SHOW

Absolutely Horrible. The writing on this is nothing short of trash. The writer should be punished. The director and studio should pay all the people for wasting their time. I hope this writer has never got another job. This is so bad that I actually took the time to write this. Fina any other show to watch. Clearly No one proof read this, or went thru the script. Too much stupid-ness. I guess all the other reviews saying the same thing is proof. If you see the writer- smack them for me.................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

It could’ve been better, but IMO I don’t think it’s that bad like some people say...

What I like:
- The colors n tones for this drama is amazing! Beautiful costumes with vibrant colors... The settings r also nice... Visually u’ll def enjoy watching this drama, u can tell it’s not a low budget kinda drama...
- I like the mainleads... they look good n their acting is ok... the side casts r good too, like the Eunuch who saved her, that guy from Untamed, the uncle, that Ani&Qiuning, even the villains play their roles good...
- I rarely enjoy crossdressing kinda story, but this plot of her disguising as a man within the palace wardrobe dept is not that common background, so I find it a bit refreshing... however, I find it hard to believe that nobody suspects her as a woman all those years she was in palace... have u seen her? She’s prettier than any other women around even in disguise...

What I find lacking:
- The screen time of the main leads being together r just not enough... they r visually super goodlooking people, so I was hoping to see their interactions more...
- The FL character is just too annoying sometimes... like I get that she’s mad when ML gave her mom’s golden pin to the enemy, but it doesn’t need that long for her to forgive him, right? She was mad at him n being sulky for more than 5eps! By the time she isn’t anymore, she got poisoned n ML gotta leave her to find the cure... then luv triangle starts, CP wants FL for himself n forbids them to meet for 5years which is 2eps long of mainleads being apart and that’s already near the end of the drama...
- Plotwise: I’m not a big fan of too much palace politics, so I admit that I skipped some of the CP scenes esp with the king, his bro n even Concubine Wu... I wish they keep the palace part shortened, sometimes they r dragging n too boring IMO...
- I wish the drama is half palace story, n half mainleads story when they r already married... I wanna see them handling the life outside of palace, plus I wanna see how FL acts in the household being n looking like a woman... coz I don’t get why they introduce another villain near the end n it’s not even resolved... supposed some say there’ll be 2nd part? Have no idea, not sure if it’s an interesting enough story for another long drama... I wish they just put them together to complete the drama...
- There r some absurd scenes... for example: how FL knows how to dance that good when she spends her whole life disguising as a man in the palace? However this doesn’t bother me that much, so I just enjoyed the beautiful dancing scene... the example of a bothering scene is when ML, the one who is supposedly smart, couldn’t even recognize her when she disguises as a man... that’s almost always a problem with the crossdressing kinda drama IMO...

Overall I think it’s an ok drama... I agree some things could’ve been better esp storywise, but again it’s not that bad as some people say... I enjoy watching it, n it’s a happy ending...

it’s a great drama but you have to keep on watching !!

honestly, i really enjoyed watching it!! the filming was done so well, and at some scenes i wonder how they get such a large cast (especially market scenes where there are large crowds).

it wasnt that enjoyable at the first episodes when the female lead was 18 and leaves the palace, she acted a bit childish? and some of the things she did didnt really make sense.

but at the later episodes when she returned to the palace and became good friends with the crown prince i really enjoyed it !! it was cute that they all called her “little bean” hahahahah,, and it was nice watching how the gang (crown prince, wu cai ren, xiao dou zi, pei xing jian) stopped cao wang’s bad plans!!

the outfits are designed well and they were very pretty !! the acting is not bad as well, (the villains made it so that you wanna punch them) and the crown prince’s acting is great as well, he really fits being a prince. also most of the lead is good looking HAHAH i think the villain cao wang is handsome~ but anyways you have to ignore how the female lead has heavy makeup even though she pretended to be a guy.

once you watch past the episodes when she reenters the palace and become friends with the crown prince you’ll get attached!!! i definitely recommend it because it has a happy ending and the suspense built up througout the episodes are very strong and attracting.. also it was so satisfying watching the antagonists get beat up HAHAH. (i loved watching zhuo jin niang run around getting food for xiao dou zi~).

that’s all, i finished the drama and i am gonna rewatch the first episodes because i skipped them lmao !!
李治万岁万万岁!
and i am sad for crown prince (second lead syndrome is quite strong the last few episodes, careful😭😭)

plot standard romcom
acting ok MFL is horrable though and very cringy, while acting as a male shes more girly then female part
story start is normal neer the end the add all kinds of extra plot but just end the show so they needed filler or ran out of money
conclusion dont bother .........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

This is a nice piece of fictional period drama. The actors did a good job bringing their characters to life and the leading couple, when they were together, had good chemistry. The plot develops well and, even when it doesn’t seem like it, the love and support among the leading couple is steadfast to the end. The drama offers the typical palace backstabbing antics, a revenge plot, jealousy among the powerful and those seeking power, and a nice, but slow burning, romance. The drama is not perfect, but it is engaging and entertaining.

Yearning

I agree with top comment about how some of the plot in this were quite ridiculous. Getting heartburn when the villains keep attacking. I think the FL was kind of silly woman even though she was smart. Good for her that she admitted she was dumb like what the ML said to her face aksksjkfjs. I thought I'm the only one who think like that. Apparently they butchered the character coz it was not like in the novel.

The ML's kind, patience and ofc the same too went for FL's devotion not to bow down to Crown Prince's demand and keep being loyal to the ML. At first, the FL's behaviour might be brash but at last(and I means last few ep) she matured a lot.

I just want to say the hat or headwear pei xinjiang always wore emphasised his nose in unflattering way. Sorry

Lastly, this drama makes me want to watch another drama to be created about emperor loving eunuch that actually a woman. Lmao it didn't work for this drama bcs Pei Xinjiang was fated to Liuli and met her first.

Starting was good and ending was good, middle was okay

I was really reluctant to watch this based on the reviews. Many of the viewers felt that the female lead was immature and naïve. Alas I had nothing to watch so I decided to give it a go.
I enjoyed the beginning of the series and how the characters established their relationships, I like how the self-made family started. I love the interaction between male and female lead On the romance scale, I would say it is very low. On the action scale I would say it’s pretty moderate. There is there little mystery to the series however it is enough to keep you entertained.
Initially I thought that the viewers just misunderstood the leads age and character as she is a younger character however after watching it for some time I could absolutely understand what everyone was saying.
First, here initial behavior stemed from her lack of knowledge about what happened. She gets a pass for that, but when she is made aware of the dangers to her life and continuously does things that could get here killed, that’s were she lost me. No matter how naive or ignorant an individual may be, everyone and I do mean everyone has a survival instinct in them. She appears to have no instinct and and appear to be more stupid than naive. Then we get into the moody behavior because someone intervened to save her life because they wouldn’t continue to let her put her self in harms way and the resentment came out. It things like this that lowered the rating.

Overall, I found it enjoyable. Would I watch it again? Definitely not. Why? It was really rather frustrating to understand the sacrifice that was made for the FL and then watch 40 episodes of her disregarding that sacrifice for something that really had no value, essentially a bragging rights gift.

Story improves over time

I don’t normally like to write reviews until I’m closer to the end but felt like I wanted to counteract the negative reviews.

Overview: Liuli is the daughter of a woman who used to be renowned in the palace for her weaving skills but ultimately left because she disliked the associated palace politics. Unfortunately Liuli’s mother is framed and killed by someone in the palace. Liuli’s life is saved by a kind palace eunuch and she is raised in hiding, until she eventually grows up, learns the truth, and vows to avenge her mother. The drama follows her journey, with additional layers of palace intrigue and romance on top.

Overall: I liked the basic premise of the show and the first episode hooked me in. The show’s not perfect but I’m glad I stuck it out because I’m now at a point where the story is getting better and better and I’m actively looking forward to seeing what happens next.

What’s not so great:
*The female lead’s character. The first couple episodes focus on Liuli the child, who is shown as brave and a quick thinker. Unfortunately when the show transitions to Liuli as a young adult, she is portrayed as headstrong, impulsive, and frankly not too smart. For example, at one point Liuli loses a bag of money and when a male character finds it and tries to return it, Liuli pursues a vendetta against him when she discovers the money is gone, ignoring the fact that if he had actually been a thief he could have just not said anything about the bag at all and she would have been none the wiser. Her persistent inability to overcome these types of logic gaps don’t show her in the best light. I have hope for improvement in her character arc but am a bit “meh” about it and not totally sure why the male lead likes her.

*There are a few scenes introduced for Cdrama effect that have zero storyline purpose and are a bit ridiculous. For example, at one point Liuli demonstrates her expertise in an ethnic dance, but it’s never explained how she acquired these skills while being raised as a boy eunuch in the palace. Similarly there is a scene where Liuli is almost knocked over by a carriage and the male lead kicks someone else (a literal random passerby) who was going to catch her out of the way so he can do a cliche Cdrama half hug and dip. It served zero plot purpose, unless making the audience cringe or laugh was the point.

What I do like:
*The main lead and other secondary characters are amazing! I love the friendly eunuch that raises her and his other apprentice, Lady Wu the palace concubine that Liuli met as a child, the crown prince that wants to reform the kingdom, Liuli’s uncle and Ah Ni that own a dress shop, etc. Basically, for every cliche Cdrama villain, there is also another truly likable other support character that you want to root for. Along these lines, I love that the show passes the Bechdel test in including multiple great female characters that talk to each other about topics other than boys.

*The storyline improves over time and really picks up once Liuli discovers the truth of her mother’s death and decides to seek revenge. At this point, Liuli’s story also begins to complement and feel almost ancillary to another, more compelling storyline involving palace intrigue and starring the Crown Prince and Lady Wu, a concubine who is clever and compelling in her own right. I’m especially a fan of Lady Wu, who is shown as clever, ambitious, and kind and steals the scene as a character.

*Great action scenes, though typically only occur in the context of male lead helping fend off some kind of assassination attempt. Helps make it a more entertaining watch.

Note: I’ll update this review if the show gets worse rather than better but right now for me it’s on an uphill trajectory that I’m excited about.

Wouldn’t be too bad

if they had chosen a better actress for the FL role, made her character smarter and not dubbed her with such a childish voice. Oh, plus maybe losing the makeup and lipstick when pretending to be a boy.

The FL is annoying, immature and dumb plus the actress has absolutely no chemistry with the other characters. I like the ML as well as the Crown Prince and Talented Lady Wu. The rest of supporting actors are all fine.

The story line is interesting enough with the expected villains, misunderstandings back stabbing, poisoning and scheming.

I often wonder if I’m the wrong audience for many of the drama since they often involve an immature. FL.

No, no, no and quadruple no.

I'll start by saying this: the description of this drama is what convinced me to start episode one. And truly, the first two episodes were very enjoyable!

[ Why I held onto the drama ]:
1. I enjoyed watching the acting from the child actress, the mom, cunning Attire Expert lady, to the fostered father. These characters truly made the drama more enjoyable for me! Yubin (you might also know him as Weining from Untamed) was also a nice surprise to the drama.
2. I know I said this in the beginning of my review, but I'll say it again: the plot. I was really hoping for a strong female lead to take down the the evil characters and get revenge for her mother's death. It's also not so often where you'll find a plot about clothes, anyways.

[What made me decided to drop this entire drama at episode 10]:
1. Okay, so this is entirely my own opinion. The entire drama went DOWNHILL COMPLETELY after the 3rd episode. I don't know what the writers were thinking because the female lead grew up to be so inconsiderate of others, slow, and has no type of awareness of the danger she put herself and others in. She goes & roams the entire city and does the OPPOSITE of what HER MOM advised her NOT to do!
The female lead's stupidity and stiff acting is what ruined it all for me. No, you cannot use your big googly eyes to escape from every single trouble. Can the writers please bless her character with some braincells?! Heck, I even started ROOTING for the evil and cunning Attire Expert lady in the drama because her acting was at least way MORE enjoyable.

I've never been so ANNOYED at a female lead. I did tried to hold onto the drama, and I made it to episode 10. The last straw for me was when the female lead never seemed to remember to look for her mom's items that she left?! Once she grew up, everything her mom left her and said to her seemed to no longer matter.

Watch four episodes and see for yourself.

terrible story and acting

How did this drama get a 8.5 rating?

it is very disappointing. I really like historical costumed dramas and I also like Timmy Xu. The way this story was written and presented was very poor. The actresses chosen to play the parts are also bad. It is hard to believe that a seamstress can be important enough to cause the extend of jealousies like the drama wants you to believe.

I realize that it is a fictional story. But, his drama screen writing really needed improving. It's just a lot of yelling, cunning and snappy dialogues, it is not convincing. After a few episodes, I totally lost interest.

one of the worst drama

This has to be the worst story telling and acting I've seen in a long time... you wonder the stupidity of the main actress....everyone told her to keep her identity a secret to avoid the consequences. Yet, knowing, she just can't wait to tell everyone herself, then ask others to keep her secret????? Very intelligent!!!!!!!

The the dialogues repeated the same words over and over....."it is my fault and I have to save them"...... Liu Li herself is the one creating and causing all the problems. She is no heroine, she is an idiot.

The one playing is child was very cute and others were not bad...but everything else is terrible.....cannot insult myself anymore by watching further.
