THE PILOT EP WAS SO NICE! I love the bakstory and how they showed it. Kim Zuhun's acting was superb. I hope they will be consistent with the next episodes because if they do, this will surely be a masterpiece.

Watch this if you are interested in business and slice of life dramas! The pilot ep really touched my heart. It gave a glimpse of how they live their lives and how they became who they are now.

I love the OSTs, actors, and the story. I just hope I won't be disappointed with the next episodes because it looks predictable.

My ratings breakdown

I give this drama a 5 rating... to justify, this is my breakdown:
Seo Dal mi - minus 200 pts for choosing Dosan
Nam Do san- minus 300 pts for being a crybaby
Screenwiter- minus 495 pts for being such a cruel bitch!
Han Ji pyeong- 1000 pts
Breakdown: acting- 500 pts + dimples- 500 pts

Total rating- 5 pts
Apparently I need to rant more because my review needs 500 characters. So here it is... JUSTICE FOR JIPYEONG...JUSTICE FOR JIPYEONG...JUSTICE FOR JIPYEONG...JUSTICE FOR JIPYEONG...JUSTICE FOR JIPYEONG....JUSTICE FOR JIPYEONG...JUSTICE FOR JIPYEONG...JUSTICE FOR JIPYEONG

You won't get bored while watching it

I've been waiting for this drama to be aired and I was so happy I was not disappointed, the first episode made me cry a lot and I don't think I'd forget it in a long time,it's getting better than my expectations, the actors are doing a very good job, the story, the comedy, everything is is perfect,I hardly watch Korean drama, but this is one of the best kdrama I've ever seen even though I'm not done with it yet.

SO BORING. Bummed because I was really looking forward to this...

I'm sorry, this drama is so boring. I'm so disappointed because I was really looking forward to it because I love Kim Seon Ho and his deadpan humor and I really like Nam Joo Hyuk as well. I think a big chunk of the problem is because of Suzy. I'm sorry, but they need to stop giving her lead roles. I think she is so pretty and I was a fan of her during her Miss A days, but as an actress, she never makes me feel anything. She's got blank eyes. And because she doesn't emote any feelings, I can't connect or root for her character so I just wind up not caring. She also doesn't generate any chemistry with her co-stars with the exception of Dream High. If there's no chemi, then it gets boring which results with me dropping the drama. I keep hoping she'll improve, but keep getting disappointed. I don't know if this drama could have been saved with a better actress, but I feel like it would have been a lot better if there was chemistry.

I know other people feel differently, but this is just my opinion.

Everything Was Good Till Episode 13

Let's just say, everything was alright till Episode 13.

Episode 13 is where they've decided to totally kill off one of the most important characters in K Drama history. That person who drives the entire drama.

They built this character really well, and fooled all of their audience that this person has a chance in surviving. But out of a sudden, the producer thought, enough is enough, let's just kill this person off. The series then reached rock bottom, and never recovered since then.

Everything else and the ending wasn't worth watching. I watched it during the live release, and I wanted to drop the drama so bad, but thought since I've endured it all the way till 13, I'll just watch till the end.

Absolutely disappointed.

This drama honestly had a lot of potential in the beginning. The backstory was great, the cast was good, and I found myself really enjoying it the first couple of episodes.
However, it really went downhill for me after Nam Do San and Seo Dal Mi started falling for each other, even after she found out that he'd been lying to her this whole time. I know feelings can change, but I just didn't end up liking them together. There were some minor plot holes and flaws (like when Kim Yong-San had a grudge against Han Ji Pyeong for what he did to his brother -- that's kind of his job? I wouldn't expect investors to sugar coat your mistakes; he also wasn't that rude to him to the point where he'd commit suicide out of the blue) but the most aggravating one to me was the fact that Han Ji pyeong didn't make ANY moves for 3 YEARS. He had the perfect chance to get to know Dal Mi better with Do San gone, and their relationship off the rails.
Something else that was annoying were the random english phrases. Come on now, does anyone do that in real life? It was very unnatural and made me cringe every time. It really wasn't necessary at all.
The ending was also underwhelming; I'd like to have known more about the other people. What happened to the twins and Morning group? Who won the bidding? Isn't that what it was leading up to for the whole episode? I feel like there could have been more clarification on the direction they go in.
The thing I really enjoyed the most was the soundtrack and OSTs. They were my cup of tea and it fit the vibe of the story well. They did a good job on this aspect. I can't say the same for the rest of the criteria.

Should've stayed in the drafts luv

I watched this drama as it was airing but honestly,, wtf is this. You see, I am still not over CLOY and WFKBJ so naturally once I found out that Kim Ju-meok and Jung Joon-hyung were gonna be in this drama, I was absolutely gassed and could not wait for it to start airing.

Like its name, the only good part about Start Up is well, the start. I had my hopes up because my dumbass thought that Jipyeong was the main lead (well we were introduced to him first and most of the first ep was literally about him so). Plus him and Dalmi would literally be a power couple. Plus, Dalmi had rejected basically all her exes in the past because of the letters, so my dumbass really thought that she would reject Dosan because of the letters (and date Jipyeong).

Samsan Tech are just cute dorks, apart from Dosan the toxic cunt that reminds me way too much of my physics teacher. I'm not even bloody joking, after watching DoDal's 'cute' moments for 16 episodes straight, I could not help but wonder if this was what my physics teacher would be like on a date (to be honest, my teacher is probably a LOT better than Dosan in the way that he did not steal Dalmi from Jipyeong). Chulsan and Yongsan basically carried the show with their banter (plus idk if this is just my CLOY arse but Chulsan seriously reminds me of Ju-meok in almost every way possible). And naturally, being the Marxist that I am, Saha gave me extreme Tory vibes when we first her so I hated her with all my being. Next thing you know, Saha's character development is *chef's kiss* and it was her and Chulsan singlehandedly carrying the entire damn show on their back. Because unlike Some Couples they aren't toxic and actually have chemistry! The only downside to being a hoe for ChulSaha is that I literally cannot promote them anywhere, because they just so happen to be in the shitshow that is Start Up. Like, if I ever get a hit tweet (P.S. follow me on twt @chulsaaaaanzu) I can't then be like 'this blew up, now go watch Crash Landing on You and Partners for Justice and ship Ju-meok and Stella together but call them Chulsan and Saha and Ju-meok is South Korean and instead of Choi Jiwoo he likes coding and Stella doesn't speak English as often also they make out on a photocopier' like who tf is reading that waffle (I mean honestly who tf is reading THIS waffle, surprised if any of you fuckers are even at this point lmao). In conclusion ChulSaha deserve their own drama.

Another thing is, at one point the only reason why I stuck around and waited every week for another hour and 20 minutes of Dosan's Bullshit was for the 0.2 seconds of ChulSaha content (yes I am talking about them again, and yes ChulSaha is my only personality trait deal with it bitches). Was debating dropping it but next thing you know Chulsan is reading out digits of pi to Saha (peak romance that) and then he's getting English lessons from her and THEN they're making out on a photocopier and it's like Jesus Bloody Christ you know what? I will put up with Dosan's Bullshit for you sweetie <3

'bUt iT's nOt aBoUt rOmAnCe iT's AbOuT bUsInEsS' first of all my Marxist arse has no interest in billionaires, nor am I interested in becoming one (fuck capitalism amirite), second of all I only watched this because of Kim Ju-meok. I do not give a flying fuck about start up scale up hackathon whatever.

In conclusion do NOT watch Start Up. My depression got worse, I cry over Jipyeong every night and I am too emotionally attached to (you guessed it) ChulSaha. :)

My FIRST Kdrama let down!

I wasn't going to write a review of Start Up because I felt that I might be too negative. After reading some reviews, it appears that others saw the same flaws that I did.
Start Up started strong and looked great for first 2 / 3s of drama. Then started a downward spiral that left me totally baffled. It that surrounded the relationship development of main characters. By last few episodes I found it painful to watch. At the end, I was totally disappointed. For me, that was mainly around the final development of the main character relationship.
The problem? Bae Suzy's character degenerates into a helpless school girl character and ends up with the wrong guy. It's a matter of opinion; however, the 'other' love option was much more sincere and dedicated in his love FOR Base Suzy.
Bae Suzy was great; however, the writing for her character was awful.
I would be remiss if I did not mention that Stephanie Lee was great in her role. Beautiful, fun, and funny.
If there was a season 2 of Start Up??? Personally, I wouldn't waste one minute on it.
Absolutely my FIRST Kdrama let down.

Just a regular modern day drama

This drama started off with a very powerful first episode. The grandma, kim hae sook played a huge role not only in building the storyline but also the success of the first episode.

However, everything just went downwards the following episodes. I do not understand why the drama need to include the character nam do san and suzy’s love story whilst taking into consideration how effective han ji pyeong’s character with the grandma. I think the storyline was just created to drag fans into this drama rather than to serve masterpiece to viewers.

I would have loved this drama more if Han ji pyeong and the grandma was the main leads, helping each other reach the success together rather than seeing suzy and nam do san’s love story and the whole sandbox concept into the scene.

The drama has an itaewon class type of cinematography, modern but too modern to let the emotions out from you. It was rather a simpler plot than a real business drama or even a friendship drama.

The music was so-so, nothing really special and remarkable about it.

I wouldn’t actually watch this drama but I’ll give it a 3 for rewatch because I might rewatch the good old days of the episode 1 of the grandma and han ji pyeong.

watched this with no expectations but was still disappointed

I tried my best to watch this because the concept was interesting. However, things kept going downhill as the episodes continued. SDM was in love with the idea of NDS, not NDS himself. She was so obsessed with the idea of NDS and regressed instead of progressed, in the way she became more and more dependent rather than continuing to be independent. Also, for a first lead, NDS had no meaningful character development as opposed to HJP. There are so many flaws I can go off on but that would make this review too long. Basically, don’t waste your time.
