It's basically a 170 minute long movie.
There is nothing revolutionary about the plot or the narrative, but for a Chinese movie, it's more than just highly unusual. The subject matter & the narrative are both something I would maybe expect from an artsy Korean movie, but never coming from mainland China. This is really a production that is very much like a western indie movie prepared for the festival season..Anyway, I liked the black comedy & I hugely liked the ending. It's also worth noting how the rather melodramatic events that happen, or get revealed in the drama are presented in a way that makes it very tolerable even for people that hate angsty content. The romance is good & at times borderline magical..
So why is this not 10/10? Well, episode 7's plot with the sister in law is strongly out of place. Black comedy or not, that alone taints the show quite a bit.

Very mixed feeling about this disturbing series
Mini drama (8 ep.) with Connor (who was not afraid of this disturbing role, broadening the palette of his talent).Strange series, retracing the story of 2 lost people (suicidal ML & delinquent FL on the run).
Healing drama, realization with a "smartphone"effect, uncomfortable. Nice OST.

Definitely Worth to Watch
Definitely Not Today is about Mi Chong who plans to commit suicide, but his plan is ruined when he decides to save Zhi Liao from drowning. From that moment, their lives are never the same again.It’s a dark comedy series, not really my go-to genre, but because the leads are a couple from one of my comfort dramas, Be Yourself, I decided to give it a try. Also, this drama is short, with only 8 episodes of about 20 minutes each, so I could finish it quickly.
The chemistry is definitely there. Their characters and banter in general also remind me a lot of Be Yourself, so that sense of familiarity kept me watching until the end. The plot isn’t particularly unique and is quite predictable, but it’s not something you see often in Cdramas. The comedy actually hits at some points. The topics feel relatable too. Most of all, I love how well-directed it is, considering it’s just a mini-series.
Overall, it was a pretty good watch for me.

A Bold Idea That Didn’t Work for Me
Definitely Not Today is a drama that deserves credit for being bold and daring in its concept. However, for me, it was simply too dark.I feel like it could have worked much better if there had been a balance — more grounded, intimate moments between the two leads. Their relationship wasn’t explored enough, and instead, it felt like an endless chase with bad guys, without giving the audience a real emotional connection to them.
Even though I managed to finish it, I can’t say I truly enjoyed the experience. Unlike other dramas where I feel engaged and excited to watch the next episode, here I was mostly just waiting for it to end.
I really wish there had been more emotional depth and closeness between the main characters.
Conclusion: An interesting and bold idea, but too dark and lacking emotional balance for my taste. Not for me.

Dark humor
Triggers - suicide and rape/assaultThis short drama was well-done. The acting was very good, and for a story containing such serious subjects, it was surprisingly humorous. There were times when I laughed out loud. This drama contained a lot of inner dialogue, and it was very effective. The ML voiced, "There is a difference between wanting to die and not wanting to live." You could feel his loneliness, and that loneliness ultimately reached out to the wounded FL.
The acting of the leads was very good. Through most of the drama, the ML was just a shell, going through the day-to-day motions, watching for the perfect opportunity to end his own life. You can't help but like him, there is a sweetness about him. Conversely, the FL is hard and angry, after being betrayed time and time again by people that were supposed to be watching out for her. We have the opportunity to watch him want to live, and to watch her hard edges smooth out.
It has a happy ending.

Flawless and a surprise package
When thinking about how I should rate this show, I couldn't find a single fault and had to go with a 10.Definitely Not Today might seem like a depressing story or some kind of typical romance drama. It is neither. The way dark issues are tackled is a breath of fresh air!
Mi Chong is a young 29 year old male who has lost all of his family. Being alone in this world and trying to deal with grief has sunk him into depression. One day, as he is about to commit suicide by drowning, he sees a girl jump off a bridge into the same body of water. He gives up his plan to die in order to rescue her thus beginning their strange journey. Zhi Liao is an angry young woman who has surrounded herself with a dangerous gang of men which gets her in trouble. She inadvertently ends up having no where to go but to stick with her saviour, Mi Chong, for safety while maintaining her brash attitude unbeknownst to her that her presence is getting in the way of his plans of dying.
The way this show tackles dark topics like suicide, sexual assault and still manages to bring in light elements and comedic moments is invigorating. With just 20 mins, each episode wins your heart and surprises you. The pace of the show is good and there is never a dull moment. Every instant teaches you more about why these two characters are the way they are.
I also enjoyed the inner monologues and the little scribbly animations brought a cute element to the show. The OST is nice. The show has an indie vibe to it with muted tones.
With only 8 episodes, this series is worth a shot. You won't regret investing your time!
