Several girls who used to live in the same dormitory are now over 30 and faced with various problems in their own lives, careers and marriages. A sudden gathering brings them together again but none of them know that things are not as simple as it seems. A few days earlier, Lin Ji (Fan Shiqi) who is hosting the party received a video from 15 years ago. It was a recording that belonged to Jiang Yuanyuan, a girl who was once their roommate. During that summer, she committed suicide and in the video, she mentions feeling devastated because a best friend had betrayed her. The incident has cast an unforgettable shadow in the lives of the former schoolmates. Lin Ji repeatedly brings up the topic of Jiang Yuanyuan's death which the girls kept evading. As one of them attempts to leave, they realize that the door has been locked from outside. What happened that nightmarish summer 15 years ago and why did Jiang Yuanyuan die? Uncovering the Truth in Three Episodes: A Mystery Told in Pieces
I really enjoyed this one. But I’m also a fan of found-footage films, especially ones where a team of investigators or a group of friends discovers homemade videotapes and pieces together what happened to missing people or an old crime. Or stories where a group of people wakes up to find themselves held captive and being filmed as they try to figure out what’s happening. This isn’t exactly that type of drama—the plot is different—but it still gives off those vibes. The filming and execution feel raw, while the plot gradually unfolds, giving you breadcrumbs that slowly reveal the truth about an event that happened before the drama started—all while everything is being videotaped. It’s a style that always works for me.It moves back and forth between timelines and I thought it does a great job building the characters, as well as the group and individual dynamics. It was definitely worth the time investment for me. The three episodes were enough to nicely uncover what happened to them in college, and the twist was almost impossible to see coming.
