Boring cringe. "Watch on double speed" the series with some exceptions (mainly Ep 9-10)

Overall this whole series was so freaking slow, barely anything happens and it was such a disappointment considering the hype of the teasers and how many popular BL actors & pairings are included.

Couple/Episode breakdown ranked in order of which I enjoyed the most to the least:
• Eps 9-10 – Puth & Kaeng – Bruh this was hot. Kaeng's styling is so effing good wholly shiz and he is really convincing in the seducer role. Loved it! I would happily watch a series with this pair- they actually had chemistry.

• Eps 11-12 - Sat & Choke: When I saw the concept teaser for this, I thought it’d be one of my least favourite. But I actually ended up enjoying at least the first ep a lot. The two MLs had good chemistry. I enjoyed ep 11 a lot but 12 went back to the Y-destiny trend of being slow, boring, melodramatic and stupid.
Like lol wtf Choke has Sat jerk him off and keeps kissing him, says he loves him and then turns around and says welp- I have a boyfriend now, cya! This is after saying in the previous ep that he’s single and no one is ever interested in him so??? Wtf.
Also not sure why the chars randomly spoke a lot of English in these eps. I’m not complaining but there’s no reason given why lol. It would make sense if it was a Pinoy drama, but it’s not? So it seems like they were just showing off that the actor for Sat is bilingual for no real reason. I see the concept they were going with like “the shallow things you wish for may end up not being what you really want”- but I think they executed it pretty averagely overall. Although I get this is a shallow BL show lmao- I am expecting too much.

• Eps 5-6 – Mon & Team: Cringe and mostly boring, but with some hot scenes. I actually quite liked the second ep of this if you skip to the 15 min mark. ;) (Mostly bc of the NC scene NGL). The lead up to that is pretty damn cringe and boring though. Also the scene where Team “seduces” Mon by rubbing his wet hands on his chest after using the toilet and washing his hands- what the F*CK. Like who wrote that scene omfg? They could have done literally anything else at all to be more seductive. Mon’s constant squeaky, squealing sounds were almost intolerable as well. I cringed SO HARD every time.

• Eps 7-8 – Thurs & Pao: Think basic imitation of the ghost trope done in He’s Coming to Me. If you’ve seen that, you’ve seen this concept before in much more depth- so this short, simplified version is not very interesting. They wasted way too much time before introducing Pao as well considering there’s only two episodes. Pae is really cute and this couple was pretty cute together, but these eps are pretty average overall.

• Eps 13-14 – Masuk, Jia & Tir – Masuk looks so effing good here. Talay is a beautiful guy, but they styled him especially perfectly in these eps. Also is it just me or does it looks like they used like a hair chalk colour spray to get the grey colour into Jia’s hair rather than colouring it for real because it looked chalky af like it was sitting on top of his hair in every scene lol. I found it distracting because it kept making me think, dude- brush through your dry shampoo lmao.
This is definitely one of the more thoughtful stories in this series. This series really ranges from stupid, shallow fluff to more serious, sadder stories like this one. It was ok but not really my vibe. I still found it pretty boring if I’m honest since it’s your pretty generic told a million times before tale of learning to move on through grief. Although it was also incredibly unbelievable to believe that the firefighters would have just left Tir there to die of smoke inhalation when they were legit all there wtf Lol- very immersion breaking.

• Eps 3-4 – Sun & Nuea: Cringe and boring. Nuea’s outfits are trendy af and nice to look at but again nothing happens. I watched most of this on double speed. The whole confession while livestreaming was weird af. Sun looked so uncomfortable in ALL the seduction scenes, so those scenes did not come off as hot to me and were pretty awkward.

• Eps 1-2 - Tues & Ake: Pure fluffy, PG boredom. Watch on double speed or skip this couple unless you love cutesy, fluff scenes where barely anything actually happens. This was the classic enemies to lovers plot with the quickest transition to lovers I think I’ve ever seen in a BL. The transition is really abrupt and nonsensical. Boring af. Recommend skipping.

• Ep 15 – Ensemble episode with all couples. Half of this was weird controlling boyfriend setups- like wtf it is not romantic to not let your bf out of the house and force them to ask permission to go out and to beg for money. And the other half of this ep was silly, boring fluff. Also the whole having a birthday party for your dead boyfriend with your new boyfriend setup was some really weird sh*t.

The first step is always the hardest

1. First as Kaeng is the best in his emotional crying scenes. As an actor I think First is the best of them all despite his young age and this is his acting debut
2. Bravo for Nat as Nuea’s style in this series. His clothes with hair color are so porsche. It likes a fashion show
3. As Silence said "This series actually taught me ENDURANCE". I thought I gave up this show after watching ep 1 and 2 (Chap as Tue and Tae as Ake) but decided to give MaxNat couple a try and somehow finished the series.
Let's taste bitter and sweet. You may find some gem

Too Busy ....

This drama just felt way to busy for me...

Each of the characters had there own story line, and it just felt all over the place, there was no flow or continuous of the characters. These are seven stories of seven best friends whose personalities are based on the Thai description of characters associated with a particular day of the week.

I am not going to get in detail of all 7 characters, as some of the stories were okay, where others I literally just had to skip through them.

Y Destiny is a wild bunch of everything, It's such a shame that the storylines were not very well written as all of the actors did such a good job with what they were given.

I think this drama, would have been a better, if they had reduced the number of stories and given the more screen time to the best or overall couple, instead of just putting them altogether.

A mixed bag that I enjoyed but you might not

Don't let my ratings fool you up above. I still have a lot of criticism.

The stories varied wildly, so I don't have much to say about the drama as a whole. Rather, I'm going to be talking about each of the different couples and their two episodes centered around them.

I like this concept for a drama with a lot of couples, and I was excited to see where it would go.

First Couple (Ep 1 & 2):

The first couple (Tue & Ake) started things off very well for this drama. Having just two episodes wasn't a problem in telling their story and the actors did a great job in developing believable chemistry. There were some plots holes about the Muay Thai boxing aspect, but I still enjoyed their episodes a lot. They make you forget about the plot holes and inconsistencies really.

I would rate them a 8.5/10, with the added .5 just because the tension was insanely palpable. I really enjoyed this couple.

Second Couple (Ep 3 & 4):

The second couple (Sun & Nuea) was a disappointment. At first, it seemed like there was some pretty good humor with their story and they had good chemistry. However, the direction the actors were given made some scenes annoying or just too cheesy. The second episode contained the majority of these problems along with Sun & Nuea acting very out of character by the end.

I would rate them a decent 7/10. I almost want to give them a 6.5/10 but I feel that would be a little too harsh as I still generally enjoyed my time watching them. Unfortunately, I would have to label this as the weakest couple in Y-Destiny.

I will say that Nuea is just a fashion icon who seems to be able to rock anything. My goodness! He is far too attractive for his own good.

Third Couple (Ep 5 & 6):

The third couple (Mon & Team) was pretty good. They were definitely better than the second couple. I found their cheesiness and shyness charming instead of cringey like I did for Sun & Nuea. Plus, their chemistry was much better. I thought they had believable chemistry, were cute together, and had a great kissing scene. I would call them the averagely good couple in Y-Destiny though.

I would rate them a 7.5/10-8/10. I think they deserve AT LEAST a 7/10 rating.

Fourth Couple (Ep 7 & 8):

The fourth couple (Pao & Thurs) was one of my favorites. I got emotionally attached to them and found both Pao and Thurs interesting and enjoyable on their own and together. We didn't get to see quite as much of their interaction as I would have liked in their first episode though, as the beginning didn't start with them right off the bat. However, this problem was easily and quickly resolved in their second episode with them having much more time together. I loved their chemistry and they were really sweet and funny together. It wasn't the masterpiece that is He's Coming to Me, but it was a very fun, charming, and emotional watch all the same.

Compared to the other couples I mentioned I would say they are leagues above the second and third couple for sure. And also the first couple, though with not as big a gap in quality/enjoyment.

They are definitely a 9/10 in my book. Definitely an 8.5/10.

Fifth Couple (Ep 9 & 10): Welcome to my Favorite Couple!

The fifth couple (Puth & Kaeng) was a huge surprise for me. I found myself adoring them and their unique story. I want them to have their own miniseries or something. Please! I don't want this ship to die yet!

Puth and Kaeng are THE most intriguing couple in Y-Destiny. Fight me. I realized that before I even saw the sixth and seventh couple. But, I knew it and called it early. And, I was right I felt so bad for Kaeng. He tried to change himself to make Puth interested in staying with him, even if it was only for sex. He just wanted to be around him, even if he couldn't date him. He must have caught feelings long ago but had been holding back his confession. And the fact that all he wanted before their "relationship" was about to end was for Puth to act like he loved him during their last night together just destroyed me.

My only criticism is that I wish we got to see a couple short scenes from Puth's point of view to see more how he felt about Kaeng. But, I was very happy with what I did get to see.

This was one of the most adult and intensely human stories we got to see in Y-Destiny (the other being the seventh couple). Loving someone so much that you will change/adapt yourself for them, no matter how it hurts. Seeing that pained me, in the best way possible.

Also, their chemistry and "scenes" are absolute fire! Good grief!

9.5/10. I'm not kidding. Damn this was so good.

Sixth Couple (Ep 11 & 12):

The sixth couple (Sat & Choke) was looking to be a favorite of mine. The fact that it was basically a remake of 13 Going on 30 had me intrigued from the start. And the first episode was very well done and didn't shy away from the more down-hearted/upsetting aspects of it's story. Especially regarding the lifestyle Sat realized he was living in the future and the toxic "friends" he had. Sat & Choke had great chemistry, maybe too great. Lol.

However, episode 12's plot twist of Choke already having a boyfriend was absolutely unnecessary and made his actions toward Sat seem really weird and not as sweet as they were before. I mean, what was with that kiss then?!

Other than that I also wanted to say that I liked their use of animation and I enjoyed the fact that English was incorporated. Also, the actor who played Sat did an amazing job capturing the behavior of a young boy in a grown-up's body, and Choke was insanely flirty, in the best way possible.

I WANT to give them a 8/10. But, because of the plot twist not making sense or working, I feel forced to give them a 7.5/10.

Seventh Couple (Ep 13 & 14):

The seventh couple, well really it's like two separate couples. There is Masuk & Tir, and Masuk & Jia. But, Masuk ends up with Jia so they're technically THE couple. I was continuously heartbroken in the best way possible during these episodes. Masuk & Tir's love story is truly tragic. I understood how Masuk would value Tir more than anyone else as he is the one he loves and therefore would want him to leave the theatre, but at the same time I understood how Tir was the type of person to do anything he could to help/save others because he has a lot of love for everyone and values their happiness above his own and therefore would stay to help the kid (who turned out to be Jia's nephew which was actually a pretty nice plot twist).

I liked how Jia wasn't trying to take advantage of Masuk's grief, but gave him all the time and respect in the world. He valued any affection Masuk felt he was able to give, respected that he would always love Tir and he would never/should never replace Tir, and was willing to wait for him to be comfortable.

Jia wasn't very present in the episodes, but that was the point. He was willing to leave space for Masuk to be with Tir. He was meant to be a patient, loving, and calming presence in Masuk's life. And, I felt they got that across very well.

I would rate episodes 13 & 14, and the combined couples and their story a 9.5/10.

Couples 5, 7, 4, and 1 were the ones I enjoyed the most, in that order. My least favorite couple was the 2nd one. Couples 6, 3, and 2 I still enjoyed. Just, not as much as the others.

As far as the final episode. I'm not going to lie: I thought it was major cringe for almost half of it and showed some of the couples' partners being controlling of their SO (which I was not happy to see). There were some cute scenes though and I liked the conclusion with each of them making a short speech. The last episode was basically filler, but at least I got to see a few scenes with some of my favorite couples that were pretty nice.

One of the Best in 21

I know this series got a lot of bad reviews hich I believe is unwarranted. For me, this is an exceptional series. Sure, not every story is done well but that is not the point. The point of this series is to show love in may forms, in many ways, developing in infinite ways as well. Some of the individual stories are exceptional and phenomenal (Choke and Sat. And Masuk, Tir and Hia). You MUST take it as a whole to feel it deeply. The last scene at the end of the series is one of the finest soliloquies I have ever heard about the meaning of love. I am not ashamed to say that I was so moved by many of these stories, I cried while watching them. That last scene is one of the best I have ever seen in any BL. Do not skip this one.

If you want to read my complete review of this series, you can read it on BLBliss.com.

This was a collection of two episode vignettes, slightly linked, and thus not a series as such.

Since this was an episodic compilation series, not an actual series, some I rate higher than others as BL.

Ep 1-2: Tue - sports enemies to lovers 7/10
Ep 3-4: Sun - teacher/student poor little rich kid 7/10
Ep 5-6: Mon - player/virgin 5/10
Ep 7-8: Thurs - ghost story 5/10
Ep 9-10: Weds - players learning love 8/10
Ep 11-12: Sat - time slip friends to lovers 5/10
Ep 13-15: Fri - second chance at love 8/10

Average: 6/10
I enjoyed this for what it was but I’m not sure it’s worth judging on a level with proper series because there was no opportunity for full story arc. However, each couple was given no more or less time than some Vietnamese or Korean BLs, so I rated each pair and then averaged.

Because I generally dislike this director’s style, I didn’t expect to enjoy Y-Destiny as much as I did. It used BL trappings but had a certain raunchy crassness to it that came off as more genuinely gay then most BL, which I appreciated and probably explains why the Weds installment was a favorite. I also really loved the YoonLayPerth not the least of which because a three person ship is a hard path to walk under any circumstances let alone in Thai BL.

But taken as a whole?
It was uneven, some chemistry was better than others. And because this is a series, one is tempted to compare couples, which makes those that were less good seem more less good. In the end, It was mixed and so were my feelings. The parts I liked best were the moments when we got to see the friendship group interacting, and I wish this had been more v-gay Friend Zone soap opera with interweaving arcs for multiple couples drawn out over a series rather than episodic installments. Still, I hope we get to see more of many of these actors in the future.

Bonus for Lovely Writer nodding to Y-Destiny with Aeoy and the phone in the final ep. Cute.

Not as bad as I though

Before I started watching this series, I read a lot of reviews and most of them were negative. Because of that, it took me a lot of self-convincing to just watch the series and make an opinion myself.
I understand why a lot of people don't like this series, it's not the best, but if you just wanna watch something "light" (not that much drama in it) then go for it.
There were some couples that I like more because their stories were more interesting, but I enjoyed overall watching this series.
Don't watch this series expecting some kind of masterpiece, watch it because you're just bored and want to try this one.

So bad it’s good! And sometimes it’s genuinely good

Let me explain the rating please

This show had a very specific brand of humor. It’s very campy, it’s trashy and intentionally hilariously bad. You remember how Shyamalan tried to recreate a b-movie feeling with “The Happening”? Well, Y Destiny gave me a similar vibe - from its campy acting to its hilarious dialogues.

They’re mostly feel-good stories, usually not to be taken seriously. The show reminded me a little of YYY in a sense that it’s funny and ridiculous but also has a very heart-warming a genuine message at the heart of it.

There’re seven different couples with seven different stories. It’s a bit hard for me to rate them individually as they all had a similar vibe. I’m going to say that the first story (Tue and Ake) felt uneven in its execution if compared to other stories. It didn’t start out as obviously campy as the others but it very suddenly shifted gears right in the middle. It became incredibly ridiculous and senseless and this sudden change caught me off guard. I had a hard time adjusting and even contemplated dropping it until it hit me that the change was deliberate, so I buckled up for the ride and in the end I had a great time! I just wished they didn’t make the first ep to be so deceptively “normal” in the first half of its runtime lol This storys cinematography and editing was inferior to the other episodes though.
A shout out to episodes 9/10 bc it’s many people’s favorites (mine too!). It had some campiness for sure but it was unironically entertaining. Great chemistry, effortless acting and a comparatively unique storyline in a BL. Even if you don’t enjoy trashy humor you might still want to check this one out.
Talay, Yoon and Perth’s story was a bit different as it was permeated by sadness and melancholy. I personally think they should’ve given them a less tragic story. All three actors are decent and they can pull off this specific type of trashy humor very well (like Bruce Campbell). Especially Talay and Yoon (both did a great job on yyy and it’s sequel) and Perth was great in my Engineer and let’s be honest, that show was kinda campy as well. My point is that they didn’t utilize these three to their full capabilities. I did laught my ass off at the cinema scene though!

The last episode is probably my favourite. It didn’t feel dragged out like most others did and it was nice to see all the couples being domestic and just all having fun together. I even got a little emotional at the end when they were all thanking each other. It felt familiar in a way, like when you’re having a wonderful time and just want this moment to continue forever. Saying goodbye to this series felt like saying goodbye to a good friend. It’s a bittersweet feeling.

Last thing I want to say is that this show did a phenomenal job in utilizing colors in each story and did great with the characters‘ styling choices. The uses of symbolisms were great as well and the op song is super catchy and never fails to put me in a good mood!

My very subjective rating of 10/10 for the enjoyment I got!

Some storylines had the potential to be good, but just...weren’t.

I don’t know how to go about this review because there’s a lot to be said and I want to make this as concise as possible. The story is really about 7 boys who vow to have boyfriends before the end of the academic session.( I think?)
So the characters are named by days of the week, Sun-Sat, with varying storylines and OSTs even.

Sun and Nuea’s story was my favorite, probably because I already am a fan of the Nat/Max pairing, so I might be a little biased. The storyline was realistic, their lovey-dovey scenes were adorable and my babies looked extraaaa handsome. The ending though, that livestream bit went on too long.

I didn’t pay so much attention to Mon’s story, so I don’t have much of an opinion on that.

Tue and Ake’s story is your regular hate-to-love story and while I happen to be a huge sucker for those type of stories, this one didn’t do it for me. Everything was too fast, and not properly executed.

Puth (Thai for Wednesday) and Kaeng’s story wasn’t one of my favorites and I might be the only one with this opinion, though. Their story line seems really realistic though, so that’s an upside.

Thurs and Pao’s story had the potential to be good, but didn’t quite hit the mark. I got a ‘He’s Coming To Me’ kinda feel and I was hoping for something good with that one. Again, didn’t do it for me.

Masuk/Tir/ Jia are not a throuple. Lol. Masuk gets a second chance at love after Tir dies. This one. This one had the POTENTIAL to be a moving, beautiful tearjerker, but I was let down. It’s not as horrible as some comments below may lead you to believe, but it’s not that good either. Too-long stares and Tir’s presence literally everywhere.

In episode 15, Masuk tells Jia not to kiss him because Tir may be watching. What. The. Friggin. Bull. Is. That?

Sat and Choke. Lol.
Half of the time , I didn’t understand what was going on. Too many time travels, flashbacks, blah blah. Something extra was always going on.
The other half of the time, I was wondering why they randomly broke into English sentences. Sat’s command is English is so good, but Choke’s was choppy in some places. They could have just stuck to the native language. Nice of them to consider international fans though. lol.

Episode 15 is a montage of all the couples, horribly done, I must add. Only Puth and Kaeng were adorable in that episode.

Music- okay.
Not mind blowing enough to make me Shazam and download all of them, but good.

Acting- Okay. Some people were obviously better than others and some of them are new to acting? I’m guessing?

Overall, I stand by my rating.
Might rewatch for Max/Nat. Lol

Edit: I’ve rewatched all the episodes a countless number of times. So yeah, it may be meh, but I guess I like ‘meh’ stories too.

Also, I take back what I said about Mon/Team. I quite like them. I hadn’t seen their episodes as at the time I wrote this review.

Now Y destiny is over, I’’ll will be rating all the stories.
Its just my opinion don’t get mad.

1: TueAke 8/10
It was a good enemies to lovers thingy, but it was wayyyy too fast. I wish they did it better.

2: SunNuea 7.5/10
I loved the story but the way they did it is just ehhhhh…

3: Monteam 3/10
It was the worsstttt..
I had so many mixed feelings about these story.

4: ThursPao 10/10
I thought this story was the best. It reminded me of the drama He’s coming to me. I loved the way they did it and amazinggg, I wanted more of them.

5: PuthKaeng: 8/10
It was good story but it was kinda boring for me. They almost everytime did it.

6: SatChoke: 6/10
Wasn’t a fan of the story.

7: MasukJiaTir : 9/10
It was a good story and overrall amazing done with emotions, but why like almost every scene they had to include Tir. He was dead and yes he approved it he even said it, but the editing sucks so hard.

I loved the last episode with all of the people in it. I will miss this series.

Overall of the series : 8/10

Okay, I first wanted to watch this drama based on a fan edit of one of the couples I seen on Youtube. That scene was so intense that I had to add the series on my watch list on here. I loved this series for what is was. I loved how each storyline was unique and different...but tied to each other in an special way. I will say go into this drama with no expectations. I say that because I made an mistake and read someones review and it was negative.

When I finished the series it was an complete opposite of what I thought it was going to be.

The actors are so handsome and so talented in this series. I enjoyed all the couples but some were a slow burn...but still good. I'm not going to lie. Im glad that its all tied together but still can stand alone.

It was a cuteness overload until I got to episode 9 and 10. (Puth]Kaeng) OMG the raw chemistry behind this couple is what I needed to see and they delivered. I loved that they were sure of themselves and what they wanted to do. The fluff was there but it was overthrown by the intensity of their characters. I seen real emotions in their eyes. I love when it comes from fluff to pure skinship. I love that this couple went through real life situations. It was truly different and not your typical cliche BL coupling. Puth\Kaeng are now part of my fav couple list.

Fanservice with little plots

Before reading, note that every couple had their pros and cons. This review is a generalization of pros and cons that were consistent throughout the show.

This series would’ve been great if each episode were only 40-45 minutes each.

Let me elaborate. This series contains 7 love stories, each with two episodes. Every story is simple enough that it can easily be told in little timing, though I’m sure many of us would love to see more. The main problem with this series is that almost every scene is two minutes too long. When you have an episode of 10 scenes, each with 2 extra minutes, the time adds up, and it’s noticeable. The actors speak every ten seconds, leaving unnecessary dead air, and oftentimes, the show paused scenes to capture “moments” that are supposed to leave the fans wanting to squeal but end up thinking, “Yes, they’re staring at each other...can we move on now?”

The first two couples had little-to-no plot, but as the show progressed, the stories (mostly) improved.

The storytelling is inconsistent. There are pointless scenes, redundant scenes, drawn out scenes, many unnecessary flashbacks, and odd romantic pacing. Some couples felt too rushed while others spent too long pining. Some couples flawlessly executed elements of storytelling, like pacing, whereas others majorly missed the mark. It was so inconsistent that you were wondering if the same people that made one story really participated in the other.

Every couple, minus Puth/Kaeng and Jia/Masuk/Tir (Somehow, this couple didn’t have the issues all the other couples had), had very cheesy storylines and dialogue. Now, if you’re someone that enjoys very cheesy romantic gestures and corny affirmations of love, this is the show for you. However, if you cringe easily, this is your warning.

The music was way too much. There were many scenes that could’ve been raw and emotional hadn’t the music drowned out what needed to breathe. The most emotional scenes are the ones that don’t need to rely on music for the audience to connect. Not only was the music overused, but the choice of music didn’t always fit the tone of the scene.

Regardless of this, don’t run away yet! There are redeeming qualities to this show.

Couples acted like couples. This shouldn’t be revolutionary, but in a way, it is. In many BL, couples refrain from acting too couple-y. Y Destiny is a gay show, and they loved embracing it. The couples were loving and sweet to each other and weren’t afraid to give physical affection. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of skinship (not always 18+) that was in the series. It made the relationships feel authentic.

The casting was great. Though some acting was..questionable, for the most part, everyone was casted well for their part. The chemistry is through the roof! The couples matched well. Compliments to the casting director/s on this one.

My rating for the show is the result of averaging my scores for each couple:

Tue/Ake: 4
Sun/Nuea: 5
Team/Korn: 5
Kaeng/Puth: 8
Pao/Thurs: 7
Choke/Sat: 5
Jia/Masuk/Tir: 9

I’m not a harsh person or one that gives low or high ratings randomly. I have fair reasons for each. The low scores struggled the most with inconsistencies, drawn-out scenes, being boring, and okay acting.

This show is not designed for you to think too much about or stress over. It’s a cute compilation of attractive guys falling for each other in the corniest ways (minus the Wednesday couple, oddly enough). If you’re looking for something with more depth and amazing storytelling, this show should be last on your watchlist. However, if you’re in the mood for softness and don’t mind production flaws, this is a lovely watch.
