Sweet 7 lifetime romance with almost zero drama

I decided to watch this because I didn’t know what else to watch. I’ve been watching a lot of Ding Yuxi dramas lately and finished several of them, so I picked this one up. It’s also the first Yang Chaoyue series I’ve ever watched. I’ve heard her name a lot but only just realized I’d never seen any drama where she was the female lead. The plot is really good. The structure of the seven connected lifetimes has nice parallels and small details that don’t feel repetitive. Each life is different—sometimes only one of them remembers, sometimes both do, sometimes neither does—which keeps it from getting boring and adds mystery that makes you want to keep watching.

For me, the early episodes moved along enjoyably even though it felt a bit slow at times, especially the second lifetime. The first lifetime (as animals) was quite funny, and the third was fun too. Around the middle it slowed down and I felt a bit bored, but from episode 25 onward—especially the later part of the fifth lifetime and the sixth—it got really good and exciting. The second male lead in the second and third lifetimes is one of the most annoying second male leads of all time for me, even though he turns out to be a good person in the end. The main villain’s death at the end also felt a bit too easy. Ding Yuxi as Chu Kong is definitely the highlight of the show. He plays multiple lifetimes and different personalities really well. Yang Chaoyue as Xiang Yun is very cute. Her acting isn’t particularly outstanding and there are a few points you can nitpick, but it’s not bad enough to make the show unwatchable. Their chemistry is good. The relationship is sweet and adorable with some sad moments mixed in. Because the male lead is quite straightforward, there’s almost no misunderstanding drama between them.Production is beautiful—costumes, sets, and the opening OST is excellent.

Overall, This drama has a very interesting plot about seven connected lifetimes. It’s a sweet story. The pacing can drag and feel a bit boring in some parts, but the main focus is the story and relationship between the leads. If you’re looking for a couple who are in love and have almost zero misunderstanding drama, this one feels very comforting to watch. You can definitely give this a try.

Just say it's an original why drag a good novel down the gutter with adaptation tag

My god I specially signed in and made a profile in mydramalist so I can rant about this pathetic drama. Now before any of those fandom freaks come to bite I wanna maje myself clear that I watched the whole thing ( painfully) while it was ongoing and this is strictly my opinion. Okay, first of all WHY are they saying it's an adaptation when it's completely unrelated to the original, only basic plot is there, every thing elese is different. I had super high hope but Oh My God it was worst than I imagined, pacing was diabolical, it was very hard to understand ir even like the characters, most of the time they are just sentences for plot development not even canon fodders and this applies to leads too. Ending was a big fat mess and what's up with the emperor, is he on drugs? And don't get me started on fl, she can't act my god please, one moment she's in the scene and next she's completely out of it, I can't even blame her the writting is terrible,honestly Male lead was the only thing there to watch (not saying he's phenomenal). If they were going to destroy the fairy and Devil ip world then they should have just made a prequel about the ancestor's love story, it would have made more sense. Honestly I don't know why I'm so angry cause fox matchmaker was worst than this but I had so much more expectations, I waited for so long and they destroyed such a great potential story. Whatever at the end I hope Love Game in Eastern Fantasy (I know horrible English name translation) does well, it's been 2 yrs not a single good fantasy, why do they do this we're not stupid🙄🤡🙄

Formulaic

It's a bit hard to rate this cos i liked the drama for some parts and hated it for others.

Main things I hated were the writing and overarching plot line. The way things progressed just didn't make sense and there were too many loose ends that weren't resolved. So many things brushed under the rug to just progress the plot in the direction the writer wanted (i.e. bad guy getting his way). I'm so tired of seeing this in xianxias.

Things I liked were the fun action/fantasy elements, the main couple and their romance story, Ryan's portrayal of all his different characters, and a few of the supporting characters (Red Thread Master, Fate Writer, Emperor's Loyal Subordinate). Early on in the series, I wasn't really feeling the main couple and how they were quickly, but steadily, starting to like each other but midway through the series, I started to enjoy their scenes and relationship more. I'm not a fan of the whole mortal realm tribulation plotline we see in these xianxia dramas, but I enjoyed some of the tribulations here. The only ones i really enjoyed were the 2nd to the last tribulation and the very last one.

Honestly, I skipped through a ton of the scenes because I could already predict how the story would flow and there was nothing necessarily unique enough about the story to grab my full attention. Overall, it's not a terrible drama, I just wouldn't watch it if I had other dramas lined up to watch. If you're bored and don't mind seeing the same recycled plot but with different characters/acting performances, give this a go. At the very least, Ryan is sure to amuse you with his performance in this drama.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching it

I won't lie from the drama's name I thought ah this will be a ride of sorrows and tears. It actually indeed was but it was lighter than I thought and I'm glad it was because my fragile heart wouldn't have been able to handle it otherwise. I wanted to give it a 10 but the ending was literally very predictable and kinda annoying and I hated it. I think it became some sort of stereotype to do this type of ending this year so yeah. My Other complaint would be that the drama was a little too short!? I wished to watch more. I also awaited for a better show of ending battle. It felt a little rushed at the end I didn't get to enjoy watching my demon cat 🥹! BRING HIM BACKKK!

Take a breather before you dive into the next one!

Where do I even start? It was a magnificent and absolute perfection to watch! I'm still reeling from it and definitely in need of a breather before I watch another drama.

The story had me from the synopsis and was well executed in the entirety of the drama. The manipulation of romantic cliches was superb such that I didn't get tired of watching them happen severally in one drama... It is seven lifetimes (that brought on the waterworks each time) we're talking about. I absolutely loved how time was taken to develop the supporting characters and have their stories painted in the overall plot. Discovering the true villain halfway, made me feel as though I had been on a wild goose chase with the one who was supposedly the villain. Having the past being relived instead of being mere flashbacks was more than I expected to find when watching the drama.

This is not the first drama I'm watching that cast Ding Yu Xi and he delivered a stellar performance in this drama as well. I cannot fault his acting especially since there was no disconnect throughout the various roles he played. It is my first encounter with Yang Chao Yue, so I have nothing to compare with. I think for this role, she nailed the delivery of the FL character. I liked how she matured with every lifetime experienced and still retained her 'current' personality. The supporting actors were also on point given that I didn't feel as if there was stalling in between scenes or that the plot was rushed.

OMG! The music! I instantly knew it was Faye with the intro OST of the first episode. I'm leaving this drama with a richer collection of OSTs. They were perfectly timed and in tune with the emotion of each scene which made the drama all the more impactful. Even the instrumental bits. The instrumentals for the tense/ominous scenes is still ringing in my ears.

All in all this drama deserves all the love it's getting

7 Reasons why I love LOVE YOU 7 TIMES!

I have started a dozen cdramas but has not managed to finish one in a while. Most of the dramas start with a bang and then a long boring part that I can’t get past or sometimes the chemistry between the leads cool down. Then I found this drama.

Without much ado here are my 7 reasons why I love this drama. Here we go!

1 The main leads CHEMISTRY is on fire and cute at the same time . It makes you feel good like when you are in love. Aside from the fact that they are both beautiful, they seem very comfortable with each other which makes it fun to watch, not awkward. There may not be any steamy scenes but you can feel the magic and connection between them. A lot of cute moments ❤️

2. The story and concept.
For me the story is unique in a way because of the 7 (6 if you don’t count the last one/ending I guess) mini stories/dramas in the drama. In each story the cast perform different characters yet connects back to the original drama to complete the puzzle. It is a very interesting concept and entertaining at the same time. A lot of guessing what is going to happen next. TBH this si the only drama I watched where I want the main leads to die so they can avoid the tragedy or move on to the next story. 😁. Watch it to believe it.

3. Cast
ML - His acting is always on point and carried the drama for the most part. He is an awesome actor and deserves the accolades that the viewers will give.
FL - She is fun and enjoyable to watch too. She may not be a best actress but she had her shining moments in this drama. Contrary to rumors being spread about her she does not always have a pouty mouth and whiny voice. She has managed to show her acting range as well. If you have bias against her this might not going to be a fun drama for you. But if you can set that aside you will find this drama enjoyable and worth your time.
Support cast - SML - whose love for the FL is admirable and rivaled that of the ML is consistent, the twins and stone fairy whose love and friendship are pure all played well. The emperor who is an excellent actor and very effective in his portrayal of his role.

4. The costumes and make up - just wow. That is all I can say. The colors , styles and designs of each costume in each life is just wow. It is a feast for the eyes and they deserve an award for this.

5. OST - all are beautiful and well placed to create more excitement, flare and drama to the scenes. There are times when the background noise is loud but that is to the editing and not the music.

6. The HE. It may be short but a happy one. I wished they ruled the heavenly realm as a power couple and had twins but that is asking too much .

7. The production. Amazing. Whoever put together this colorful, exciting and fun drama from the tiniest details of the costumes to the props deserves applaud.

The 1 thing I hate about this drama.

1. The haters who tried to sabotage this drama and continually trolled. Thank goodness I did not listen to them otherwise I would have missed this little treasure.

fantastic drama

Love the umbrellas (at least ) 7 times

This is one of those dramas that is just impossible to rate, the story is ok predictable at times, interesting at times, meeh at times...

It has pretty much everything and more but I feel like it would be enough for them to love each other twice or maybe three times but seven just feels like pushing it... that said the umbrellas in this drama are top, the less predictable twists (few as they may be) are really good to.

The leads are both lovely, taking turns with being smart, and less smart, bickerish push and pull and incorparating most of the tropes of dramaland, they did after all have to fall in love seven times + there where a bunch of side characters that also had to fall in love.

The main villain is as selfish and evil as it gets, the other villains have interesting character development and seem to have a bunch of dimensions. And again the umbrellas in this come in different colors, used for a bunch of different stuff and show up in the most amazing slow mo settings.

An okay watch... But could have been better if it had less episodes and if they focused on the loving instead of the quontaty of times.

Also I love the pig, tiger and cat! Those are lovely too!

Love is red... so is blood.

As someone who read the novel and it being one of their favorite novel, I've been excited about the drama since they released the trailer & now since it came out I can finally post my review about it. So let's go!

Love You Seven Times (七时吉祥) is adapted from the novel "Seven Unfortunate Lifetimes All Thanks to a Single Moment of Impulse (一时冲动，七世不祥) written by Jiu Lu Fei Xiang (九鹭非香). Love You Seven Times talks about an immortal God of War, Chu Kong, and Xiangyun who was a cloud, but got turned into a fairy and now she works at Yue Lao Pavilion. Their life intertwines by the red strings of fate by accident and that's when their lifetimes start.

Firstly, the order of their lifetimes were changed but this isn't such a big deal to be honest. Even so, before talking more about it, their 2nd lifetime is one of my favorite because, first even though Xiangyuan didn't liked this lifetime with Chu Kong she started to fall in love with him but she wasn't aware of it. That is why she kept on crying when she saw Chu Kong crying, she couldn't control herself at all. If you read the novel you'd see that her emotions are more deep than what we see in the drama. Second, the 2nd lifetime is the one that kind of marks Xiangyuan, which is really interesting to see for the future episodes.

Letting the novel beside, let's talk a bit about the drama and everything else shown until ep 10. The CGI is so well done, as expected from Stellar Pictures, and since the prod. company is the same one as "Love Between Fairy and Devil", SP, I loved that one scene where they added the OST of LBFAD. It was something that I didn't expected and caught me by surprise and made me remember of the days of LBFAD. An amazing feeling to see the prod. company still including past dramas in the current one's. Talking again about CBI, they are mesmerizing to the point it makes you feel like it might be true. Every effect there is so well done and I'm grateful that we got SP (Stellar Pictures) doing them.

Secondly, is time to talk about the actors. Ding Yunxi & Yang Chaoyue are perfect for their roles. As someone who has been following Ding Yunxi since "The Romance of Tiger and Rose" I knew that he would do a good job in expressing Chu Kong, and he did it. He nailed it. He is perfect for this role and I wouldn't change him to none else. As for Yang Choyue, this is my first drama seeing her as the FL. The only time I saw her was this year as well, during "Fireworks of My Heart" and I told myself that she better get a lead role since in FOMH she was cute & loved her a lot, and here she is. Since the beginning of "Love You Seven Times" she hasn't disappointed me at all and, besides that, I've been impressed a lot more with her acting & especially her crying scenes. She did such a well job and I am ready for tomorrow's new eps to see how she would do since that part is one of my favorite! I could talk hours and hours about their acting but we will stop here since I know these 2 would do such an amazing job.

Thirdly this is about the OST. Been listening A-Lin's OST "哀情記" (Diary of Sorrow/Grief Record) since they released it with the trailer 10months ago and been obsessed with it for quite a while. Once I found out that Faye & Liu Yuning would be singing for LYST, I immediately knew that the OSTs would be good. Sadly, I forgot who are the others who are singing the OST, but from what I heard they are good as well. I just know that Faye wouldn't disappoint us with an OST, neither Liu Yuning. They are just perfect for this drama and it shows. Also, just as Liu Yuning said in the OST ("Until the end of time") "I forgot who I was, it doesn't matter very much, I just want to follow behind you" & "No matter how difficult the road is, we will walk, together; with you by my side, the pain is nothing", they, Xiangyuan & Chu Kong, will face a lot of difficulties especially separation & pain, but since they always end together, side by side, it isn't nothing for them. They will always win in the end, because they had each other.

Lastly, I just want to say to those people who haven't read the novel, and even though you did, I hope you enjoy it because it is one of a kind drama where you could find almost everything you'd love. If you are an enthusiast of xianxia dramas/costume dramas, then this one is perfect for you. Even if you aren't one, this drama could still be found on your watchlist & might even binge-watch it (when it wraps). At the same time, this drama has a lot of angst so prepare your tissues before watching.

Anyways, this is all I had to say from a novel reader's perspective, but at the same time of a drama watcher's perspective. I could go and talk all the way about their other lifetimes & other things that happen in the novel, but I want those people who read these reviews to not get lots of spoilers and, instead, to get a pov of the drama before watching it. Like the title of this review "Love is red... so is blood", it is the best quote that could describe "Love You Seven Times" and the relationship between Xiangyuan and Chu Kong.
