When the prince of the Ming Dynasty leaves the palace to explore the underworld, the evil General Li invites Kao Chien Yen to help him seize the opportunity to overthrow the dynasty. When Kao refuses General Li kills his whole family with the exception of his daughter Kao Nao Hseuh. To get revenge she must learn kung fu at the temple but at first they are reluctant to teach her. Eventually though the abbot is touched by her sincerity and accepts her as his pupil. After mastering the deadly 'Crane Shadow Fist' she sets out to wreak revenge on her family's killers.
