Laws against imbibing, buying or making alcohol created different challenges for these inhabitants:
Inspector Nam Young from The Office of the Inspector-General who left his hometown to achieve fame in Hanyang and restore his family status; Kang Ro Seo, the aristocratic but impoverished lady who makes moonshine to reduce her debt, allowing her to continue buying her mother’s medication and her brother’s books; and even Crown Prince Lee Pyo, who was prone to scaling the palace walls in search of a tipple.
This trio has a fateful encounter leading to the discovery of a hidden stash of alcohol.

-romance, though Love in the Moonlight is a lot more fluff than Moonshine
-tough/ordinary-ish girl, often dresses as a guy
-guy is higher rank than the girl
-(possible) second-lead syndrome/second-couple syndrome
-second-lead starts out with friend vibes

Reading from the comentaries, it has the same vibes of "common people" taking a stance, comedy and mystery.

Both dramas stars Lee Hyeri as the female lead. Both Jian and Roseo lost their fathers when they were younger due to some secret that led to their fathers being killed. Both of Jian and Roseo's love interest were cops; Dongtak is a detective in the violent crimes unit while Young is an inspector in Saheonbu. Both Dongtak and Young were indirectly responsible to the death of Jian and Roseo's father. In both stories, our main pair end up working together to unravel the truth at the risk of their own lives.

Both dramas have strong female leads that are a bit more on the rebellious side, whereas the male leads were a bit more rigid when it came to the rules & formalities. Both stories have the perfect balance of comedy, mystery, and romance. Both kdramas are period dramas set in the joseon dynasty, however moonshine focuses on events surrounding alcohol prohibition and rookie historian took a more wholistic approach regarding different topics. I highly recommend both shows, and if you're on the fence about either of these shows, just know they'll make you feel an array of the emotions because every aspect of the shows were beautiful.

Hilarious Historical Romance

• Both feature themes of politics and secrets to be uncovered

Boths dramas are comedies set in Joseon and both have some serious aspects. FMs are poor and hard working. They both hide their soft sides but also care for their families (brothers). MLs also have some similarieties. They are upright and serious flowerboys.
