Ruined itself trying to be clever
0/10 do NOT recommend. I spite-watched it until the end just so I could write a review and save others from losing 30 episodes worth of their lives.This drama was a solid good fluffy silly rom/com set in historical period until about half way through and then it devolved into constant plots, tons of lying, lots of schemes and just bs...by the 20th episode I wanted to strangle the writers and by the end of this I want to say they absolutely took a great idea for a drama and DESTROYED everything good about it and left nothing but a mess.
By the end of the drama I didn't want the leads to end up together, they do not have a healthy relationship and ML continues with his lies (the thing she hates above all else) right up until the final moments of the drama.
Dear writers, manipulation isn't romantic please leave this toxic trait in the garbage can!!

Starts with so much potential, then goes downhill with so many unnecessary and dramatic fillers
I was enjoying the first 12 episodes or so. The pace was nice, the story was good with some seriousness blended with just a nice amount of humor. Then it goes downhill from there. The writers seem to lost their direction and the plot just gets down right stupid from then on. Using a bird as a mean to keep the story moving then once against, using the bird to clear up all that random misunderstandings that made up half of the show, like, wtf? This show could've been a lot shorter without all that unnecessary plot twists, and it would deserve at least an 8/10 to me. But nope, we were forced to sit on an arduous rollercoaster ride with a bunch of silly pranks mixed with sudden life-and-death situations in a span of one episode, then more scheming and more random life-and-death catastrophe and bam, super happy ending for everyone ? and I don't think FL actually ever gets to know ML's true identity and the actual reason behind his scheming. A Waste of Time
I tortured myself by drudging through this ridiculous drama, and I'm not sure why. This is a period piece--not a fantasy, but multiple pot holes exist in the badly written script that make the story impossible to believe. Also highly disappointing is Riley Wang--not only in this--but also in Song of the Moon, another C-Drama with very bad special effects, worse character development, and a story that didn't seem to have a direction. The reason many of us switch to J-Dramas and K-Dramas is that they are not cookie cutter dramas for nationalism or completely ridiculous plotlines or stories with star actors like A Romance of the Little Forest or Meet Yourself which are so boring they could cure insomnia. Another big mistake is the 5-10 minute episode dramas popping up all over which contain more time in intros and end credits than actual substance. China, Zàijiàn!Was this review helpful to you?

Dreadful writing, despite the actors' efforts
What an abysmal waste of the talented actors in this piece. The fact that I liked so many of them (ML, Sidekick, Father Shen, Kid); despised some of them (SML, Dowager Empress); and was totally disgusted with just one of them (FL) proves that even good acting cannot save a crappy storyline. I don't know what the writer was thinking. And then to reward the slimiest character in the end with no Karma... that was hard to take!I fast forwarded through entire episodes after around ep. 18. The deceitful SML's perfidy was repeated over and over, and the brainless FL was swallowing every story she could get out of a damn bird! The ML was like a sponge, sucking up all the blame and the betrayal in the name of misguided love. I only watched till the end to see reality hit the FL in the face - but still she kept on being just as delusional as she was throughout.
What a waste of a potentially good drama! You can bet your bottom dollar I wouldn't rewatch this if it was the only series playing. Sorry actors (who tried hard to save the sinking ship)!

Stupid drama
After a hectic 2 days of intense drama marathon. I finally finish it. As all the previous review by drama fans i had to agree this drama is really pure shit fit for trash. Basically there is no story development which could attract viewers which demands high creativity. All i could see is the story centered towards a struggle between 2 male leads towards a girl and by chance she gave birth to a son. After 10 episodes i started to feel a bit boring as there are no new exciting points to tell other than these 3 person. 30 episodes seems quite redundant enough perhaps shorten down to half would be better. A lot of boring plot might be just a filler gap but it does not bring any excitement at all. So my verdict is this drama is not worth to watch at all. This drama is a real disappointment to the viewers and a great disservice to the actors. There’s no real character development and the writers seem to love the clichés interrupt the speaker to create more misunderstandings, don’t tell the truth to “protect” the loved one, a male lead that can’t finish his thoughts and clarifications in a timely manner, a second male lead that keeps causing problems, and an insufferable female lead that cannot keep her own thoughts and feelings under control all the way up to the end. To put it plainly, I’m going to quote a part of solyen’s review: “This is a drama that to be a comedy lacked funny, to be dramatic it lacked emotion and to be romance it lacked romance.” Was this review helpful to you?

"Choice Husband" (2023) is a well-crafted production; with a good cast; and a writing team that wove a story that was as intricate in its subtlety, as it was devious in it's execution. By the time you realize you've been had, you're almost done and ready to pay for your ending.Step into Peking Opera and the tale of The Grape Fairie, God of Fire, and God of Night. And, the many twists and turns of multiple Opera troupe's endings all from the minds of two writers in one drama "Choice Husband." A good premise, that I believe watchers needed to know sooner. Because, the production team appeared to take on too much, loosing them, and the story to repetition. An average play, with a-not-so average story-line. Recommended.

PLOT: 1 FL, daughter from a very rich family, is looking for a husband to avoid marriage with the king. She marries ML, a young and handsome scholar, who wants to escape from a forced marriage with the 9th princess.But the FL wants to divorce quickly at all costs.
The couple will have 1 child, divorce, discover that the ML is the lost heir to the throne,... with a ML2 full of tricks, who wants to reclaim the FL and kill the ML.
+ very good actors, notably ML and ML2 (but despite their talent, they cannot save this series).
BUT
- incoherent storyline, full of nonsense.
- particularly idiotic FL character. I'm not going to list all her Bull***it, it's too long.

+ de très bons acteurs, notamment les ML et ML2 (mais malgré leur talent, ils n'arrivent pas à sauver cette série).
MAIS
- storyline incohérente, bourrée de non-sens.
- personnage de la FL particulièrement idiot. Je ne vais pas faire la liste de tous les Bull***its, elle est trop longue.

"Bad Choice"
Xing Zhao Lin ", i think he need to pay attention before he cast another this kind of shit drama. his recent project was so bad.If he continue like this, he definetly lose his fanbase. And (what's wrong with his wigs)Riley Wang, i pesonally like him,He acted this drama so good cuz every episode he gets my nerves.but his character of this drama so cringy and trash.

At the end of drama made me to say that " what is this", literally was enjoying the drama but when first leads got broke up the story was not bearable .without any reason misunderstanding was created . Second lead's character all the time support her though he knew that she never accepted her but as he second lead so she not ended with her . Inorder not to felt bad for this the story gave the character a …............ Role.At the end senseless misunderstanding resolve and happy ending .. that's it

The direction also sinned, because the edition was very strange. The ending, with the use of previous scenes, further impoverished the drama.
The performances were a little below what actors usually present.
The costumes were very beautiful and the soundtrack was very pleasant.
