The story tells the life legend of Master Hui Neng, the sixth patriarch of Chinese Zen Buddhism. Master Hui Neng was an eminent monk in the Tang Dynasty. He wrote the "The Altar Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch", which has been circulated around the world. There are still relics that have survived in the world since then, becoming the testimony of Buddhist practice. When Master Hui Neng was young, he was exiled with his father, to Lingnan Xinzhou (now Xinxing, Guangdong). After his father died and his mother moved to the South China Sea, he lived with hardships and poverty and made a living by selling firewood. At the age of 24, he got financial support and went to study in the north. In the first year of Tang Emperor Longshuo (661–663), he met Hongren, the fifth ancestor of Zen Buddhism, in Huangmei, and became his disciple. Edit Translation
