In winter 1934 (Showa 9), Asai Masao lives in a boarding house. There, he meets a woman named Yae and her younger brother Yoshiharu. He had been arrested for leftist movement and failed to work. In addition, he returns to his parents' house near Cape Ashizuri, his hometown, based on an incident that Yae was also interested in.
