This episode was very heart wrenching.😭 Mo faced this with such calm and acceptance. He knew when he signed that he would not be getting off but hoped his wife would be happy with the choice. Zhao Ling’s character was so well played with the complete horror and grief written on his face and in his actions. This was very well done and made the heaviness of the scene palpable. Ms Wu did get the ledger to TingYun but not in time for Zhao Ling to try to dissuade the emperor’s choice. When he was so willing to denigrate his own grandmother for the better of the people, General Mo did not stand a chance of having that decision waived when this sacrifice expedited things so easily. I still would have liked that ledger exposed to be considered just to see if any hope was there for him. Yu surprised me with his candid talk to Zhao Ling. It makes me wonder if the Yus were indeed very like our lead couple once upon a time when they were young and idealistic. Did they have a conscience at one time that was beaten down with the end justifies the means political machinations? This is indeed the cautionary tale for our couple to consider as they both bitterly accept with fake smiles award decrees from the emperor bathed in the blood of their friend and former ally.
