A real outstanding drama with a genius plot and brilliant acting
this drama gave me the chance to taste and experience real power and authority through a drama at its most, it is the first drama ever who was able to give me this feeling, what an amazing plot, brilliant acting, heartfell osts, and breathtaking cinematography.the chemistry between ding yuxi and deng enxi was absolutely amazing, the plot is really so genius, the idiom and wisdom in the drama were a real life lessons, and this drama is the only one who depict the reality of ancient china ministers rise to authority and power, instead of focusing only on doing the things through virtue and righteous, this drama showed you that these people's road was full of mischievous act, blood splatting and heinous acts.

The Road to Splendor has me on a Chokehold!
Just started this drama yesterday and immediately I was intrigued to the point...the beginning got me on a chokehold that I had to continue...One thing I want to tell you before you start this drama is that if you are not patient person , I genuinely wish that you don't start at all cause the way you will find yourself saying things that you didn't even think you will be saying will be WILD ( trust me, I understand cause yesterday I lost my mind)...But that doesn't mean the drama is bad, it is just if you like feeling those extreme type of emotions, then GO AHEAD...cause it is sooo goodFirstly, lemme just talk about the chemistry between Ding Yu xi and Ancy Deng, cause DAMN, they are so natural together, after watching their drama Melody of the Golden Age before, of course I had to have high expectations for them too cause that drama was an ABSOLUTE BANGER, and you know what they didn't disappoint at all....I am literally giggling over every single hearwarming romantic interactions they have been having....BLESS THEM TWO frfr
Their story here is of course brillant, i mean the title literally says The road to splendor, so ofcourse it is gonna be a from bottom to the very top type of thing. Ancy Deng plays the fl Fu Tingyun, who was a noblewoman, and was falsely accused and cast aside by her family, forcing her to flee with Ding Yu xi's character, Zhao Ling, a clever man from a humble background. As them two escape together, they become involved in a dangerous conspiracy surrounding corruption, the salt trade, and court politics. And as usual, while they both are working together to uncover various truths, they gradually fall in love and become each other's greatest support, making their way from bottom to top. and one thing to add is BOTH LEADS are equally smart, both in their own ways....
My favourite supporting characters so far are only Sen who is the ml child assistant and Zheng San Niang who is the fl maid, but friend as well...they literally bring so much joy to the screen especially San Niang, her reactions to some things in this drama is so MEEEEE...the ml other boys like his comrades too are also fun tooooo
And of course in this type of drama, there will always be villians: my top 2 hated character are Yu Jing Xiu and Fan Ya Ke, idc what anyone says, this horrible pair of lovers are literally trash, they are literally perfect for each other....Imbecile Idiots, playing the victim game, when it is their stupid insecurities, ego, and evil ambition that is playing apart on their face....I HATE THEM SO MUCH

Masterpiece
When l started l didn't have much expectations of this drama but it got me hooked fast in the first episodes. This drama is good and shows how the leads fought their way from the bottom to the top and the scenes and emotions feel real and are beautifully done. This is a must watch and is one of the best dramas this year. Was this review helpful to you?
Grounded Storytelling, Where Partnership Quietly Grows into Love — Without Melodrama or Spectacle
I like this drama because the main leads face difficulties, make choices and grow without everything being turned into huge dramatic events. Their relationship is handled gently and naturally, and feelings emerge through small interactions and shared experiences. The drama doesn't depend on exaggerated emotional conflicts, grand romantic gestures, constant shocking twists or visually spectacular scenes to make the relationship compelling. It is not an intense, adrenaline-driven drama with conflicts stretched over many episodes. There are plenty of hardships along the way, but they are often resolved quickly. The court intrigue, politics and salt-corruption plot aren't particularly strong or compelling, but they also feel secondary. More than anything, they serve to create the challenges the main couple must face, individually and together, while the real heart of the story remains their journey and growing partnership.
There is something very adult and natural about their affection. Zhao Ling and Fu Tingyun don't fall instantly in love. They begin from necessity and mistrust, then travel, struggle and survive together. Their relationship slowly grows through trust, respect, support and shared experiences, almost without either of them realizing exactly when a partnership of necessity has turned into something deeper. Long before becoming husband and wife, they already behave like a team, eventually reaching the point of sharing life and death.
Ding Yuxi and Deng Enxi's chemistry feels comfortable and natural. What makes them beautiful as a couple isn't the usual idol-drama romantic chemistry; it's companionship becoming intimacy. They feel less like two characters created to fulfil romantic archetypes and more like two people whose lives accidentally become intertwined, only to discover that life is better when the other person is in it.
The salt-smuggling conflict brings corrupt officials, the military, bandits and ordinary people into their path. The leads aren't larger-than-life heroes capable of simply changing an unfair world; they are trying to survive it, giving the story a grounded and very human quality.
The production deserves praise too. The desert locations are beautiful, the costumes and jewellery are lovely, and the direction complements the story.
Ultimately, this is a quieter drama about survival, partnership and healthy love, all told with a light touch. It is also a reminder that a story doesn't need flashy action, constant dramatic twists or, worse, toxic melodrama to be engaging. Sometimes there is far more value in simply watching people communicate, support each other and grow together. I would love to see less manufactured drama and more stories that allow healthy relationships and positive human values to be compelling in their own right.
If the final episodes are just as compelling and the drama delivers a happy ending, I will be satisfied with the journey.

IT'LL BE THE BEST OF 2026 IF IT ENDS WELL.
The Road to Splendor is heading to a hall of fame if it can just land the ending perfectly. It has every sauce, spice and ingredients known to a good drama so far and only the gods of bad endings can ruin this.So far, it has been a beautiful watch. We are seeing two strangers with no previous childhood relationships (still hoping I won't see one) grow not just in love but in life. Who says becoming a court official doesn't sap off life from your soul? Most historical c-dramas tend to bluff over this fact, thanks to the fortified plot armour their leads have. But it's different here, the ML is changing, he is becoming ruthless and has almost stepped out of his life as a salt-smuggler. A still recognizable feature of him is his unwavering love for his woman. I exceptionally like how he is written and portrayed because life is not a bed of roses. We change when life changes too.
As for the FL, she is IT! Cheers to more graceful, composed, strong, versatile, and wise portrayals of women in dramaland.

Just the way I love my green flag man! Ding Yuxi ♡
I'm loving the series so far, and I fell in love again with my green flag man, Ding Yuxi! 😍😘 Currently watching and enjoying "The Road to Splendor" with my faves baobei, Ding Yuxi and Deng Enxi, as the main leads again, my beautiful and handsome #Xixi couple 🥰🫶🏻 This is already their 2nd collab and their chemistry is still so good, they're so sweet and cute together, ever since from their 1st collab at #MelodyOfGoldenAge 💕 Most especially ofc, I love my baobei Ding Yuxi, with his half-ponytail half-down hairstyle every time, it really suits him the best, he's so very handsome in that style the most! Plus, kudos to his expressive acting skills and outstanding performances, especially doing his action scenes himself with his excellent martial arts skills, it's really impressive until now, never fails to amaze me! 😍🤭💖💯 But it looks like my Ding Yuxi here in TRTS cdrama will always have his hair up in a bun style becoz he's not a nobleman, maybe that's why 🥹😅 Well, I love both of the leads anyway, and their story is good, it's a successful series. THE CHEMISTRY IS GREAT, THE DEVELOPMENT IS SO NICE AND THE PLOT IS REALLY PLOTTING 😌😉💚🌳🌿🍃Was this review helpful to you?

OBSESSED ?
oh my gosh I'm obsessed with this drama 😭 another episode please. Best drama of 2026 for me. I just hope it continues like this till the end. It wasn't even part of my watchlist, I had nothing to watch and just randomly tuned in an now I'm obsessed. It's such a refreshing story. Throughout this year, all the released dramas have been the same script with different actors. It almost sent me into a cdrama slump. who knew this drama I tried on a random day would be this good that I had to drop a review for the first timeWas this review helpful to you?
It's Really Good!
I was excited to start this drama and lemme tell you it did NOT disssapoint! i was hooked from the very first episode and just couldn't stop watching, i dont usually watch on going dramas but i couldn't stop mysself. Ding Yuxi once again leaves me speechless with his acting, his mannerisms, the way he walks, talks, looks, moves and EVERYTHING fits the charac ter perfectly. you can tell that Zhao Lin was from a poor upbringing just by how good he portrays him. And Deng Enxi didn't fall short ! that scene in ep 4 was amazing! Needless to say they are doing an amazing job with this drama so far i recommend it !i love how there is betrayal, love, drama and much more it basically has nearly everything you could wish for in a drama.

I have concluded that literal wizards made this show.
The question here isn't "Is it good."The REAL question is "HOW is this so good."
I have thought a lot about this. And I think I've figured it out. Now hear me out, I know it sounds crazy. But it is the only answer that makes logical sense:
There was a group of wizards that got into watching c-dramas, and they were like "Dude, we should make a c-drama." So they gathered around a magic cauldron and were like
"We found this hair stylist we could use, what do you think."
"Good enough. Throw em in the pot."
(other wizard throws stylist in the cauldron, POOF! big burst of light)
"What about this director?"
"He's pretty good. Throw him in the pot too. And that ML, close enough, he's fine, throw him in."
(Other wizard looks at ML skeptically) "You sure?"
"Yeah, throw him in. "
(POOF!)
"We picked up these costumes whaddya think"
(Barely looks at them) "Sure. I trust you. They seem fine."
(POOF!)
(They throw all the other stuff in the cauldron, cameraman, lighting, music, makeup, script, actors, etc etc...... point their magical staffs and start chanting 'mekka lekka hi mekka neinie ho.... mekka lekka hi mekka heinie ho....' and then BOOM the cauldron explodes in a blinding light)
(wizard raises his hands to the sky)
"BEHOLD! FOR WE HAVE CREATED PURE GOLD!"
Because I mean how else do you explain it!? How did all B+ ingredients turn into an A+ drama?!?? Magic! It has to be!!
* How am I this addicted to a show that doesn't even have a spice factor, with an ML I don't think is that hot? Magic
* How am I not put off and distracted by the dubbing? Magic
* I don't care that much about the salt trade, the politics, the romance, the intrigue... so why tf is this story just GRIPPING me and not letting go? Magic
* If the production quality isn't anywhere near as good as Rise of the Phoenixes, why am I so enchanted by it? Magic
CONCLUSION: This is a TOP-TIER BINGE WATCH, created through actual sorcery by literal wizards.
CAVEAT: There's a very slight ramp-up till it truly gets going, you need to give it like maybe 2 or 3 episodes before the addiction begins to set in. But after that it's like pushing a snowball down a hill, it packs it's own momentum before too long and then boom you're up at 2AM with dark circles under your eyes like "Just one more episode!"

No cartoonish villain , dark family politics revolving around power, status, marriage
Four episodes in and I’m really enjoying this! On paper, this could easily turn into another revenge drama, but what I like so far is how human the characters and conflicts feel. No cartoonish villains, evil stepmothers, jealous sisters or endless slapping—just people trapped by their own interests, obligations and circumstances, quietly manoeuvring within the social rules of marriage, status and family reputation.Even the matriarchal power within the FL’s family feels more complicated than simply “evil grandmother.” The FL comes from a wealthy family, yet she has very little say over her own marriage because protecting the family’s status and reputation takes priority over what she wants.
The premise also feels fresh because the ML isn’t another duke, marquis or prince. He’s a relatively low-status salt dealer trying to make his way up, which creates an interesting contrast between two people constrained by status in very different ways.
So far, the family politics feel dark without being trope-heavy—more realistic social manoeuvring than manufactured drama. The first four episodes have set up plenty of room for character growth, and I’m really looking forward to seeing where it goes.
