definitely a tale of nine-tailed fox brothers haha

Right so... where to start?
Honestly wasn't prepared at all for this considering I finished the first season right before I started this one- and was still a little emotionally wrecked from Rang's death so seeing him in the second season almost immediately had me two a double take. Actually happy though because Lee Yeon and Rang's relationship makes the show for me if I'm being completely honest. I think it should've been the series' whole focus. And the whole concept of LY having a month to spend with Rang again after missing him for so long was something that I definitely enjoyed. The new characters that were introduced helped carry along the plot more so than the first season, but the second half of the series was slower than the first, so there were some bits that kinda bored me. First half of the season I really enjoyed, since we didn't have to deal the FL from season one being a vulnerability to LY. However, it seems as though both LY and LR were stronger in the first season than the second, and LY's famed nine-tailed abilities aren't as powerful as the first season. I was hoping the we would get to see a more powerful side to him, but so far I've only seen it twice- once with the shinigamis, and once when the 1938 LY confronts future LY. This could be due to the fact that LY isn't in his original era, meaning his abilities could be hindered, but there may also be a chance that this is just poor writing. With Rang, I'm not sure but he was definitely more powerful and capable in the first season. Now having watched the last episode, it definitely redeemed the series for me, as we got to see both LY and LR's abilities in full, which was more on par with season one, at least in Rang's case.
Speaking of Rang, don't know how I feel about the romance with the mermaid. I feel like it was forced and the love at first sight trope doesn't really work for me. The concept of them both being half-bloods was a good choice, but I would've enjoyed it more if they started as friends and the mermaid aided Rang in some way... possibly as a spy?? I think the ending made me like their relationship a bit more, but I'm still kinda meh about it. But seeing Rang at the end taking care of 1938's LY is something that I wasn't expected, but is a good way to leave his story in 1938. Anyways, Moo-yeon's "death" was something that I knew was going to happen, but I hadn't thought that his shell of a brother would be the one to" kill him." His reappearance was also a surprise, but it was well-written in regards to LY and the fortune god. Hong-joo and Moo-yeon were both characters that were new additions this season, but I think their appearances gave us a glimpse of another part of Lee Yeon's past, in addition to the fact that I just liked Hong-joo in general. The fact that the three of them end up protecting Joseon in the end is another key point that made me really happy. All in all, the scenes remain stunning and the certain elements I've already named above don't take away from the fact that this drama would be a total masterpiece. The euphoric moments of happiness and peace coupled with the pain and suffering characters experience throughout the plot is what makes this drama special as it takes you on an emotional rollercoaster and makes you truly feel something.
Is it pleasant? Not always. Will I remember the moments that made me so pissed off I wanted to talk to the writers personally? Yes. I mean like seriously they relied too much on the actors bc they were the ones actually carrying this drama like can we please just do better at writing >:///. Ugh anyways- Do I remember the emotional turmoil that is the the pure happiness of one scene bleeding into a scene of sorrow that made me want to bawl my eyes out? Yes. I may not be mentally nor emotionally ready for season 3, but I'm curious to see where it will take me.

Badass FL + Stunning ML = Satisfying Ending!

This is a BIMBIMBAP of a show. It's a mixed genre, mixed eras, mixed concepts of everything, LOL. Just name it, it's there,! But it's exactly why it backfires, a little.

It really hurts me to minus 0.5 out of 10 from this show, but I really can't stand the Yatchas! If I need that many zombie scenes, I'd be watching walking dead, I am here for the FOXES! I ended up skipping all the zombie scenes, despite Lee Rang being in it!

Other than that, all is good! I love the plot twists and the happy surprises. My favorite? Lee Rang's sweet romance! Our baby fox is now dating! Also, love how he awakened fully as gumiho towards the end!

Needless to say, I love Lee Yeon + Lee Rang's brotherhood. It makes me cry each time, their acting is SO GOOD!

It's a rare show where I actually love all of the characters (beside the evil ones, lol)...

I love our Jindo!! He's my new favorite, and of course, all the FLs are badass!

Finally, a show where the FLs do not need to be saved!

We've a mix of woman empowerment of FLs + eyecandy of handsome MLs, what else can we ask for?

fantasy and interesting

It is one of my favourite drama. If you love fantasy dramas it is a must watch. This drama has comedy and horror elements too. But it is too good. The love its first season also but it is good that the first season. I love the bronmance between lee yeon and lee rang.I think it will have third Season because of the loose endings.I want lee rang back in third Season. The female lead in the first season is bit irritating but She is not in the third Season. It has Zombies too .If you watch it once you will forget it

Perfect sequel

I absolutely loved "Tale of the nine tailed" season 1 so when I found out a season 2 was coming, I was really excited. Especially when I found out it was set in the past. But even though I was excited to see what this new season had to offer, I never expected to love it so much, In fact, I never expected to love a sequel as much as the original season.
Tale of the nine tailed 1983 is hilarious! I enjoyed every moment. It was also very emotional and the finale when Yeon fought the villan was just perfect in everyway. I also loved the setting. The antique, fancy vibe was very pleasing and pretty to watch.

The plot of this season is just amazing. It perfectly mixes together many different genres and plot points and also expands a lot on the things we learned in season 1. I know the time travel trope to catch the thief or a magical object was pretty cliche but it was worth it to see Yeon back in time. Firstly, even though I loved Yeon and Ji Ah's romance in season 1, it kind of seemed like she was the only person who truly mattered to Yeon. Yes I know he cared a lot for his brother, Shin Ju and even the old hag but at the end of the day, Yeon's whole purpose in life was to search for his love and he spent 600 years doing this. It felt like his life was purely dedicated to only her and even though I thought they were great together, I wish we saw more of Yeon besides his love for Ji Ah and this season perfectly gave that. In this season, we got to see Yeon without Ji Ah, We were introduced to his old friends, got to see more of his relationship with Rang and learned more about his childhood. It felt very nostalgic and beautiful to see him reconnect with his childhood best friends and it added many more amazing characters. We got to meet other mountain spirits and saw many more magical items.

I also love the Japanese colonial period setting. I know many people think its too controversial but since I never knew much about it before watching this drama, I was very intrigued. i think it added a great side plot and it made the drama feel more diverse and interesting because besides Korean they also added Japanese actors and characters and that felt cool to me because I never really watched and Japanese dramas before.
And of course, I loved seeing Yeon and Rang bond. I know their ending in season 1 was very touching, but it didnt quite feel enough. To see Yeon and Rang truly grow to love eachother and look out for eachother in this season was really fun because they spent most of season 1 fighting. I loved seeing their brotherly love and the way they were always there for eachother.
Rang and the mermaid were really cute together too, Im glad he finally gets a romance plot!

The actors are as always, perfect. Lee Dong Wook keeps impressing me. He's perfect as Lee yeon, there's something about his face and his acting that just feels so unreal and magical. perfect for a mountain spirit!
The actors for Hong Ju and Moo Yeong were both new to me but they were also perfect in their roles, and of course Kim Beom was as amazing as ever.

The OST's were just as good as season 1. I loved all the songs and music in this drama, especially the OST they played whenever showing flashbacks of Yeon's past with his friends. It was very nostalgic and sweet.

I keep rewatching this drama and I have not a single complaint about it! I love the ending too. I was sad that Yeon would have to leave, but the past version of himself taking his place really made it feel like a perfect ending.
So basically, this season is a must watch! I love everything about it. Its very different from season 1, but in the best way. 10/10!!

I mostly love that we got a happy ending for 1938 Rang

A lot of wholesome moments in this series. Their brotherhood is incredible and I was overwhelmed with emotions, I was even shaking when Rang was crying in Yeon's arms...
I loved how Yeon was able to mend and restore his relationship with his childhood friends and helped Rang settle down and find love...
I was overwhelmed with emotions cause the drama was so good. I loved the bromance, the story and the characters, everything was well done.
It's been a while since I was so satisfied and happy with an ending.
I'm definetely looking forward to their season 3.

This was nothing short of perfect!!

This season was more like an adventure and everything fell perfectly in its place to create an entertaining drama.
Storyline : 10/10
Character built-up : 1000/10
Comic Timing : 100/10
Villains : 10/10
Action : 11/10
Music : 10/10
They gave a fascinating twist to the fight for independence and bringing in Japanese gods was also fun to watch. Also, the fact that all main cast and supporting roles got proper screen time, depth, and character development was flawless. I have nothing but only good to say for Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938.
Everyone did a great job in this series. ❤️?

What an amazing kdrama

I'm coming here after I just finished watching the final episode. Usually I'm not really a person who gives a lot of reviews but I just couldnt pass on this one, after how much I liked it.

First, I saw a few people who said that Tale of The Nine Tailed didnt deserve a season 2 and that other kdramas deserved it way more. Which I can understand (even if I dont agree with them), because for some people, the first season didnt have a big impact on them. Maybe, after looking back and after I watched the 2nd season, season 1 also paled a bit for me. But please believe me when I say that the 2nd season is better. I also liked the first one, no doubt, but the 2nd season was just the cherry on top for me. Just give it a chance and you will not regret it.

Second, you will see a lot of character development and bromance here. I loved every second of Lee Yeon's and Lee Rang's relationship. I loved Lee Yeon's relationship with the other mountain gods, Hong Joo and Moo Yeong.
The character development for each of the characters is so great to see, especially when you know that they went through a lot. If I go through each of them, my review will be so much longer and it may be boring for some people ahaha But just look forward to it and you will not be disappointed. My heart also ached for Moo Yeong but in the end, he had his place.
What I wished the most though, was for Lee Rang to have his happy ending in this season, since in the first one he was surrounded by pain. I wished the writers would have mercy on him (and us, the viewers) and wouldnt torture him anymore. And my wish finally came true. I'm not sure if this is a spoiler or not, but I was really happy and my heart swelled with happiness after seeing how Rang ended up in this season.

Third, the music was so on point. I loved the OSTs and the other bg music was really fitting for every scene it happened to be there. To be honest, I was listening to Kihyun's OST a few days in a row since it came out and I'll probably go and listen to it again once I'm done with this review ahaha

All in all, the season 2 was a great one and I loved it every second of it. I was impatienly waiting for every episoade and I'm still frustrated that it had only 12 eps and it wasnt a full length kdrama but it is what it is. I'm quite sad that it's the end, but it brought me great joy and happiness, especially since I'm a sucker for amazing bromance and this drama just kept feeding me this. I'll miss the nine tailed fox brothers and their bond and I really hope we will get a season 3 bcs there was still a thing which wasnt addressed, and that's why I took 0.50 points from the story. But I hope everyone will give this kdrama a chance because it's so good. I hope you will enjoy it just as much as I did.

Now, I will explain why I took 0.50 points from the story BUT THIS IS A SPOILER SO PLEASE DONT READ IT IF YOU DONT LIKE SPOILERS, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT'S ABOUT THE END!!!

I took 0.50 points from the story part (I was indecisive if to take 1 point or just 0.50 points) because I was curious about The First/Original Mountain God. They showed him in the last episode, at the end, when Lee Yeon and Shin Joo were about to go home, in their era. I would have liked to know why he just stood there. Bcs even Taluipa said that The Original Mountain God is too quiet and that he is planning something. And he saw when Lee Yeon and Shin Joo got there but didnt do anything to stop them to get back home, even if he needed the stone. It didnt sit right with me and it made me very confused. I would've liked to know more about him. But maybe we will have a season 3 and we will know more about it in the next season. At least I hope so bcs it would be a shame to not be like this, especially since I loved season 2 so much and this is the only minus thing that it has.

Nine Tails returned with a Bang.....

I think as everyone knows, this show did surpass its prequel both in terms of action and story. The characters introduced and their relationship development was damn good. The show was captivating and engaging right from the first episode and didn't feel as if it was dragged unnecessarily.

By the end of S1 I hoped that Rang's character deserved a happy ending too and BOOM when the announced the sequel I was so happy. Rang getting his one love and going all fiesty foxy to protect her was so good to watch. LY as the big bro getting to meet his little bro again, from fighting against one another to side by side with him was cherry on top. Honestly I felt Yeon chemistry with the FL here way more than the one in S1 but dude is a one woman man and won't look at anyone else other than his own lady.

Overall the show was a bang and ended quite wholesomely.

Superior sequel, filled with humour and more bromance

Tail of the Nine Tailed became one of 2020’s biggest K-dramas thanks to its engaging blend of fantasy, action, romance, comedy and horror.

Fast forward to 2023 and Tale of the Nine Tailed is back. The second season unfolds with Lee Yeon and his returning assistant, Shin-joo, thrust back into the thick of drama, jumping back to 1938 and becoming embroiled in the politics and fantasy of the era. The episodic storytelling follows the same sort of format as season 1, with a variety of different spirits and demons springing forth to test their power against Yeon and his group. There’s an almost anime-like feel to some of these confrontations, especially late on when a group called the Shinigami Mercenaries enter the fold.

With no focus on the romance between Ji-ah and Yeon this time, Tale of the Nine Tailed feels far stronger and streamlined, instead turning its attention on the brotherly love between Rang and Yeon, with Hong-joo and how she slots into all of this another stand out element too. The show does a great job with its character development overall though, with the added additions of characters.

The blend of fantasy, drama, horror and comedy is much better balanced this time around, with some legitimately creative and well-written segments that stand out across the 12 episodes. This is arguably one of the best K-dramas of the year and bettering the prequel, that’s quite an achievement.

My Rating : 8.5/10
