Incredibly Interesting

Being from the US, we have a lot of exposure to serial killers, but we very rarely hear about other countries' serial killers. This was a very well thought-out and put together documentary about a very sick man. Hearing from the actual police officers, detectives, forensic scientists, and profilers that originally handled the case was quite fascinating. I thought that the actor reenactments of some of the crimes spliced with real footage and interviews was very well done. Some of the actual footage was incredibly creepy and made my spine crawl. Netflix did a superb job, and it's very hard to stop watching once you start.

captivating

I have watched a lot of those type of documentary-style stories and this one is a very good one. How they lead the story is made really good and intersting.

How was Korea economically doing at that time and how has it effected the society?
They use the society's and economic's situation to lead the story and to tell the very story of Yoo Young Chul.

To hear from all the people involved in this case, such as police officers, profilers, laywers, and indirect victims was very interesting and also suspenseful and sad. You can see and feel their emotions when they were talking about it.
The interviews, reenactments and real footages are well portioned. What I also like was how they addressed the impact, that this whole case has on the society, the national police system, for example. And the title is also well chosen.

Shocking story of Korea's first serial killer

This documentary shows in different perspectives the motives behind Korea's first serial killer. Many police officers, profilers, detectives and the victim's family members take part in describing the motives and the methods behind the most important murders but also the pain suffered by the families and the new investigative methods that the police learned after this case.
The documentary makes a good job in describing the psychology of the murderer and the lack of remorse he had after being apprehended.
What's really nice is how they simulate or act the different scenes told by the people involved, it really helps to see the extent and atrocities made by this criminal.
Nevertheless, this documentary could have one more episode showing how the police investigated the other cases and what have they worked out to catch him. It left the impression that the police was just lucky in catching him the first (and even the second) time.

Vicarious embarrassment

It lacked so many things. They didn't divulge KEY details about the killer that would've made this documentary more engrossing. It would've been better if they interviewed certain people... As much as that lunatic did, not enough details were discussed AND they had the nerve to never show his face, not even a crumb of a pic! It took me a year to finish this, because it was so boring. By the 3rd episode I turned on the English dubbing. I'm a major TRUE crime junkie but this just couldn't hold my attention.

I'm surprised South Korea let this see the light of day. I would've been embarrassed to let the world know how the killer got away at the police station, not to mention Sparta kicking one of the victim family members to PROTECT the killer.

Totally subjective review, don't mind me.
