Li Lianhua, Li Lianhua, what a beautiful story. The trailer didn't do justice to this drama as it was vague and didn't reveal much, I could have missed out on this one.This drama was worth all my 40 hours spent on it. Very suprisenly for me, there was no character I hated in here, even the bad ones.
Although LL adopted FDB as his own (not what happened in the drama, you'll understand if you watch it), I wish he had actual kids of his own for FDB to raise.
Everyone had their role to play and everyone did it beautiful, no cheesy, no overcompensating, just professionalism.
I would watch a sequel if one ever gets into the works.

Mysterious Casebook is an absolute must on your watchlist. I enjoyed every single second of this drama — not a single episode felt slow or unnecessary. The pacing was tight, the cases were clever, and the way each mystery was slowly unraveled kept me completely hooked.Each case brought something fresh, from eerie and suspenseful moments to heartwarming and even funny turns. The detective work was smart without being overly complicated, and the little clues scattered throughout made you feel like you were solving it alongside the characters.
The chemistry between Cheng Yi and Joseph Zeng was just perfect — both beautiful and hilarious. Their banter had me laughing out loud, while their moments of trust and understanding added so much emotional depth. It’s the kind of partnership you can’t help but root for.
Di Fei Sheng was the definition of martial honor. One scene I’ll never forget is when he refused to fight Li Lianhua while he was weak — a mark of true respect. He always says I'll heal you...so I can fight with you...And when he tried to save him with all his might, it really showed how great he was as a character.
Li Lianhua himself was such a layered character — witty, seemingly laid-back, but carrying deep wisdom and a bittersweet past. Watching him navigate both the martial world and these intricate mysteries was a joy.
Now… Jiao Liqiao. I hated her so much — she was manipulative, cunning, and ruthless, yet the actress played her so well that I couldn’t look away. She’s the kind of antagonist that makes the story richer just by existing.
What I loved most was how the drama balanced mystery, humor, and action so well. One minute you’re on the edge of your seat with a tense fight or shocking reveal, the next you’re laughing at a quick-witted remark or silly misunderstanding.
Totally worth it. If you enjoy mystery-solving, charismatic leads, and stories set in a rich wuxia world, Mysterious Casebook is for you. It’s entertaining, touching, and endlessly rewatchable...

Two legendary figures along with a a budding talent become the perfect trio!
When I saw watch this show, I mean WATCH THIS SHOW! Li lianhua/Li Xiangyi was portrayed perfectly by Cheng Yi. Every moment, every emotion, his thoughts, he reasons, were all perfectly depicted by Cheng Yi; to see this beautiful acting alone is imperative! As we follow Li Lianhua/ Li Xiangyi's journey you slowly fall in love with this flawed main character, every action he takes makes him so human, you can't help but love him while also watching him succumb to his fate. After seeing the ending and the special episode, I would be lying if I said I didn't cry. This drama truly touches your heart, each character is so well written and so well done by their actors that they almost feel like friends to you, making this drama''s ending so heartbreaking.I specifically loved the main trio. Di Feisheng and Li lianhua/Li Xiangyi definitely have some enemies to lovers energy (note this isn't a BL drama tho) and I am here for it! While Feng Duobing, a newcomer fits right it. Between their arguments, fights and encounters, they grow such a heartwarming and true bond that was incredible to watch on screen.
The only point of this show I didn't quite enjoy was the solving of the cases. In the beginning it was structured in a case after case manner, making it quite tedious to watch, but it got better as we got deeper into the plot. The cases were still interesting though!
Overall, I truly hope you give this drama a chance, it was truly touches your heart and immerses you in a way few dramas can. I wouldn't rewatch this though because I don't think I can put myself through the ending again, but watching for the first time, the experience makes this drama unforgettable and totally worth it.

He Was the Strongest Man in the Jianghu. He Just Didn't Want to Be Anymore.
Some dramas make you smile.Some dramas make you cry.
And then there are those rare stories that quietly become part of you.
Mysterious Lotus Casebook is one of them.
I went into this expecting a wuxia mystery with three interesting characters, clever cases, martial arts, and perhaps a little bromance along the way.
I did not expect to become this emotionally attached to a man who had already accepted that his own story was coming to an end.
And that man is Li Lianhua.
🪷 LI LIANHUA / LI XIANGYI
Cheng Yi deserves so much credit for this role.
What impressed me most wasn't simply that he played two identities. It was how completely different those two identities felt.
Li Xiangyi was confidence personified.
The undefeated swordsman.
Proud. Sharp. Fearless.
The kind of person who walked into a room knowing exactly who he was.
Then there is Li Lianhua.
Quiet. Mischievous. Clever. Evasive.
But underneath all that?
Exhausted.
He moves differently. Speaks differently. Even looks at people differently.
There is a remarkable restraint in Cheng Yi's performance. He doesn't constantly remind us that Li Lianhua is suffering. He doesn't need dramatic crying scenes to communicate pain.
Sometimes all it takes is his eyes.
Li Lianhua often looks like a man who has already made peace with dying.
And that's what makes him heartbreaking.
He isn't desperately fighting to survive.
He is simply living whatever time he has left.
⚔️ THE MOST INTERESTING THING ABOUT LI XIANGYI
What I loved about his character arc is that this isn't really a story about a fallen hero desperately trying to become powerful again.
It's about a man who has already let go of Li Xiangyi.
The world, however, refuses to let him.
Everyone keeps searching for Li Xiangyi.
Meanwhile, Li Lianhua just wants to be left alone.
He doesn't want glory.
He doesn't want recognition.
He doesn't want the jianghu.
He wants a quiet life.
And somehow, despite constantly saying he wants no trouble, trouble follows him everywhere. 😂
But beneath his indifference is a man who still cares deeply about other people.
That's the contradiction that makes him so beautiful.
He doesn't seem to care whether he lives, but he still cares whether other people survive.
🥀 THE COUNTDOWN
The Bicha Poison isn't just a medical problem.
It becomes the emotional countdown of the entire story.
Every time Li Lianhua pushes himself beyond his limits, you remember that his body has a price.
And eventually, the Wangchuan Flower becomes his last real chance.
This is where the character's nature becomes painfully clear.
He finally has a chance to save himself.
And he gives it away.
That decision says more about Li Lianhua than any grand heroic speech could.
He has spent the entire drama helping other people while quietly accepting that his own life may be ending.
And when the choice finally comes down to him or someone else...
He chooses someone else.
⚔️ DI FEISHENG — MY FAVORITE "VILLAIN"
I honestly ended up loving Di Feisheng.
Because underneath that intimidating exterior, his motivation is surprisingly pure.
He doesn't simply want to defeat Li Xiangyi.
He wants to defeat him fairly.
That distinction matters.
When he realizes that the East Sea battle was affected by poison, hidden agendas, and people manipulating events from the shadows, his frustration isn't simply because Li Xiangyi survived or disappeared.
It's because his victory no longer feels legitimate.
He wanted to know:
Who is truly stronger?
Not:
Who happened to win because someone else interfered?
That's why his obsession with Li Xiangyi becomes strangely touching.
For Di Feisheng, Li Xiangyi isn't merely an enemy.
He's the standard.
And I loved the irony of it.
Li Lianhua is desperately trying to leave Li Xiangyi behind.
Meanwhile, Di Feisheng is one of the people who refuses to let that legend disappear.
🧩 THE MYSTERY
The cases were another major reason I enjoyed this drama.
I liked that the mysteries weren't simply there to give the characters something to do.
They gradually revealed the larger world surrounding Li Lianhua—its politics, betrayals, hidden identities, ambitions, and old grudges.
And as the story progressed, I became less interested in simply asking:
"Who is the culprit?"
and more interested in:
"What really happened to Li Xiangyi?"
The revelation surrounding Princess Xuan and Li Xiangyi's true lineage was another great example of how the drama constantly challenged our assumptions.
Just when you think you've figured out someone's identity or motivation...
there's another layer underneath.
🦊 FOX SPIRIT
And yes, I have to mention Fox Spirit.
That farewell broke me.
It was such a small, quiet scene, but knowing how the story ends makes it devastating.
Fox Spirit doesn't care about Li Xiangyi's reputation.
He doesn't care about the undefeated swordsman.
He doesn't care about the jianghu.
To him, Li Lianhua is simply his person.
And when Li Lianhua says goodbye, it feels like he's not only saying goodbye to a dog.
He's saying goodbye to the quiet little life he created for himself.
No glory.
No sword.
No title.
Just Li Lianhua and his dog.

🪷 THE ENDING
I knew the story was heading somewhere painful.
I knew he was running out of time.
I knew the flower was his last real chance.
And yet the ending still hurt.
Because Li Lianhua doesn't go out fighting for his own survival.
He chooses to disappear.
He leaves behind people who love him, people who want to save him, and people who still believe that Li Xiangyi should have a future.
And then there is that ambiguity.
We aren't given the clean certainty of seeing his death.
Instead, the drama leaves us with a question.
Did Li Lianhua truly die?
Or did he finally disappear from the jianghu and get the peaceful life he had been trying to find all along?
I actually appreciate that uncertainty.
Because perhaps Li Lianhua's greatest wish wasn't to live forever.
Perhaps it was simply to be free.
❤️ FINAL THOUGHTS
Mysterious Lotus Casebook surprised me.
I expected wuxia.
I got wuxia.
I expected mystery.
I got mystery.
But what stayed with me wasn't the martial arts or even the cases.
It was Li Lianhua.
A man who was once the strongest, brightest, most celebrated person in the jianghu...
and who eventually chose to become nobody.
A man who had every reason to become bitter, but chose kindness.
A man who was slowly dying, yet continued helping people.
A man who didn't ask the world to remember him.
And perhaps that's why the ending hurts so much.
Because after spending forty episodes watching everyone search for Li Xiangyi, I realized that the person I had grown attached to was never the legend.
It was Li Lianhua.
Quiet.
Tired.
Kind.
Mischievous.
Brilliant.
And painfully human.
Some characters leave an impression.
Some become unforgettable.
Li Lianhua became the latter for me.

The best wuxia drama I've seen thus far!
Mysterious Lotus Casebook is hands down one of my favorite Chinese dramas to date. Though it is not perfect by any means and it doesn't have the most satisfying ending, it didn't leave me frustrated or disappointed unlike another C-drama that would've been without flaw if not for its horrid ending. In fact, it leaves you hungering for more with its open ending that may or may not lead to a second season. Despite the fact that it is a solid detective story dripping with political intrigue, mysticism, and evil schemes for world domination, the true driving force of this series is its characters. It boasts of well-written characters that each have their own story arcs and go through significant character development as the plot progresses.Cheng Yi plays somewhat of a dual role, the young and brash, Li Xiangyi, who basks in the glory of his achievements in the martial arts world, and Li Lianhua, the reclusive wandering physician with a sharp tongue and an even sharper wit. I love how he contrasts these two characters, showing how much the ambitious and arrogant Xiangyi has changed over the years and become the more mature and grounded Lianhua, who is content in lazing about with the company of his dog and growing vegetables in his garden. I love love this snarky bastard! 😍
Zeng Shunxi is Fang Duobing, the young and impressionable son of a noble man who grew up idolizing Li Xiangyi. He also undergoes a major change as the series goes on, from a bratty rich kid to a young man worthy of becoming Xiangyi's successor. Xiao Shunyao plays Di Feisheng. He starts out as an anti-hero but soon proves to be one of the most compelling characters in the series. His friendly rivalry with Li Xiangyi or Li Lianhua is quite possibly one of the best bromance dynamics I've seen in any drama. While he is the typical stoic “tsundere” character, his interactions with the other two protagonists are the funniest moments in the whole series. And damn, he's such a striking figure, an absolute badass!
The villains are absolutely despicable! You will never find an ounce of sympathy to spare for these hateful people. But they are not exactly your cookie cutter type of villains since their motivations aren't solely rooted in the fact that they are evil. The supporting characters are also engaging albeit some of them are not as memorable as the others. But perhaps the one character that really struck me was Yun Biqiu. His story of remorse and redemption is truly touching.
The writing could've been better, though. There are parts in this series that left me scratching my head, trying to find logic in them. Some seem too contrived, convenient, and coincidental that I had to suspend my disbelief more than a few times in order to enjoy this series. I wish they could've been more precise in the writing department, but since it is a fantasy drama, I figured I could just chalk it up to mystical arts.
As for the production value, they didn't skimp on the set designs, costumes, and cinematography although there are some scenes that looked iffy to me. I suppose I could attribute that to bad CGI due to lack of budget. The fight scenes are spectacular, though. Most costume C-dramas don't play around with their fight choreography, but this drama, in my opinion, has some of the most convincing fight sequences and the main actors really look like martial artists. I give the stunt coordinators and fight choreographers (apart from the actors of course) the credit for that.
All in all, this was an enjoyable 40-episode drama that I don't regret watching and would probably watch again if I can't find another series to obsess on, or when I miss Li Lianhua. But for now, I'm saying goodbye to my old friends, Lianhua, Fei, and Duobing. Yes, they're my friends now!

I usually don't watch a lot of male centered dramas and usually just stick to romance or female centric dramas but MYSTERIOUS LOTUS CASEBOOK?!?!?!?!? THE PLOT IS AESPA BONKERS (but in a good way).the plot twist!?!?!?!?!? the mystery!?!?!?!?! the cases!?!?!??!? the bromance??!?!?!?!?!! I'm on my knees!!!
the acting was also fantastic. I cried for my baby Li Xiangi 😭. he deserved better 😭😭😭. this drama is amazing!!!

Youth falls but meaning of life eventually find you even you are in mess
First of all ,I watched this drama having normal expectation but how story developed and played my mind was actually blown I was very emotional due to cheng yi superb emotional drawn of feelings .things he talked about how the youth goes we never understand..Basically, I watched many dramas around the year but chengyi overly-talented literally makes me feel he deserves more recognizance.
People still bully him what???
Back to pov , this drama will be my safe place actually the betrayal we feel in friendship and love are shown but li lianhua/li xiangyi never bore hatred towards them but let them go that was actually so heart breaking but key to peaceful life.he sacrifice everything for others even tho he Didn't show it but he did. I hope every youngster should watch it many meaningful words and advices are there

Li Lianhua Has My Heart
It has been a while since I have watched a drama without the urge to fast-forward. I was completely invested from beginning to end.I fell in love with Li Xiangyi, the fallen hero and I wished I could have his life as Li Lianhua, roaming around the jianghu freely in that Lotus tower and getting into all sorts of adventures.
I thought Fang Xiaobao was such a loyal cutie pie! His scenes and dialogues with Li Lianhua were my favourites.
And I don’t know why I was giggling like a little girl every time Di Feisheng appeared on screen, insisting on fighting Li Xiangyi 😉 Their dynamic was just so entertaining.
Oh, it was wonderful. I’m genuinely sad that I have finished watching it.

A well-told story about the irreplaceable legacy of a sect leader after a selfless self-destruction
This was my very first watching a Chinese drama that was a non-romantic genre that hooked me all the way. A drama that has a substance in which the underlying conflicts, twists, and turns in the development of the story hardly made me stop watching it continuously. There were some predictable scenes at some point in the episodes however; it did not weaken the flow of the story.The selection of casts was great. Joseph Zeng was particularly outstanding here. His performance in this drama went beyond Cheng Yi’s acting as the main lead. His characterization stood out among the rest and was noticeable in the entire drama. I recently watched him in “Romance on the Farm” and he already captured my attention there with his baby face looks, not so much of the acting yet. But in this drama, he properly delivered the role and saw in him a promising actor to watch for.
The component of humor I think also brought this drama receptive to viewers. The shift of tone to make a certain dialogue or scene funny by adding background sound effects was amazingly done by the technical and editing team which indeed made me laugh. Well, the fighting scenes were given for the wuxia enthusiasts and I also enjoyed watching those sharp moves.
I was absolutely satisfied after relying on my choice to watch it from one of the many approving reviews I have read.

"People do not pass away... they die and then they stay."
This is a drama deeply close to my heart; I thought extensively about this review before writing it. While there may be some articulation errors in my writing, I hope that it compels you to at least consider watching Mysterious Lotus Casebook (MLC).At first glance, MLC is nothing more than typical. It has all the elements of your conventional Wuxia C-drama: an overpowered protagonist; an up-and-coming Jianghu hero; some jealous one-dimensional antagonists; uncomplicated female characters; not-so-difficult to solve mysteries; and many more I am too lethargic to name.
But as commonplace as it may seem, MLC refreshingly breaks convention. Unlike most Wuxia stories, there is no real climax or overblown melodrama. The story's events—no matter how curious—proceed with a slice-of-life-resemblant matter-of-factness. Furthermore, MLC evokes genuine skepticism of the too-often-glorified Jianghu. Through the lens of our protagonist, the Jianghu is an uncertain environment where heroism—driven by ruthless ambition and self-righteousness—costs human lives. Most importantly, though, is that MLC's protagonist Li Lianhua is not on a legendary journey to becoming a Jianghu hero; he is a former Jianghu hero accepting a lonely and tragic decline.
The character Li Lianhua (formerly Li Xiangyi) is what single-handedly elevates MLC from a mediocre, enjoyable watch to a haunting and empathetic story. Li Lianhua is indubitably a case of "overpowered protagonist", a trope I harbor deep skepticism for; there are simply too many opportunities for characterization inconsistencies, over-indulgent author self-inserts, and extreme uses of plot armor. However, Li Lianhua is a character designed so intricately that he not only avoids those common pitfalls but is relatable for average audiences. He is perspicacious yet uncertain; cold yet kind; arrogant yet penitent; a compulsive liar yet honest; and accepting of fate yet deeply loyal to those he loves from the past. The contradictions and his struggling attempts at reconciling them make Li Lianhua thought-provoking, likable, and most importantly, human. Cheng Yi's performance of Li Lianhua is superbly compelling but may tend over-empathetic for some.
However, in the same way that a good conductor cannot singlehandedly "carry" an orchestra, the characterization of Li Lianhua cannot single-handedly define MLC's quality. While the remaining cast of characters are comparatively one-dimensional (with the possible exception of Di Feisheng), their relationships/interactions with Li Lianhua give their presence meaning. For one, the doomed romance between Li Lianhua and his former love interest (Qiao Wanmian) is portrayed with an unusual level of maturity, modernity, and sensitivity (in the context of Wuxia dramas and historical gender structures). Additionally, while the main antagonist has independently shallow motivations, his relationship with and perception of Li Lianhua create plot intrigue. In the show's more cliche and over-explored relationships (E.g. Li Lianhua and Fang Duobing), MLC successfully uses clever dialogue and surprisingly worldly insight to substitute for the lack of storytelling direction.
Finally, I'd like to talk about the BGM. While the OST is catchy, the BGM is immersive and extremely beautiful. Much of (40-50%) the BGM is structured around 4 sets of "Variations on [X] Theme". Despite revolving around the same theme, the separate variations are rhythmically and creatively diverse enough to feature in scenes with vastly different emotional tones. The fact that they all revolved around the same theme, however, added a subtle and effective additional layer of cohesiveness. Beyond the variations, there are tracks that are intimately beautiful (my personal preferences are for "涟漪" and "诉说“, which both have excellent guzheng solos).
MLC may begin slow, so perhaps give it 10-15 episodes before deciding whether or not you like it. But while the production is simpler than many of today's high-budget cinematographic "making-of-a-myth" stories, MLC—through its simplicity—leans into inquisition, normalcy, and the destruction of kitsch, apathetic Jianghu myths. Even though it is by no means perfect, it has left an indelible imprint on my heart.
