Stand By Me, Immortal Samsara and Love and Redemption.
He is actually an excellent actor in all three although I appreciated his character, Si Feng, the most - in Love and Redemption.
L&R is still by far my top pick when it comes to Cheng Yi.
I have been waiting weeks and months for the MYSTERIOUS LOTUS CASEBOOK and finally it has been released!
What I like about this one so far (two episodes in) is that it leans more towards epic sword fights, physical battles, lots of action and adventure plus some good story telling rather than a drawn out love story or two which ruins it each and every time for me. 1%-5% is fine, but that is about it! However, this isn't original, especially if you have seen other dramas with murder cases being looked into and ultimately solved.
In this one I wonder if it is Cheng Yi's real voice being used rather than a voice over - if it is dubbed over I prefer the person that did it in L & R. However, it isn't too bad even if it is Yi's own natural voice, but whoever did it for the character of Si Feng had the best voice ever.
With most dramas it seems it is normal to start out great for the first 10-15/20 episodes, lag in the middle then pick up again for the last 10 or so episodes. Mind you, I didn't find that with L & R or Ashes Of Love probably because they were my first real C Dramas.
I'm hoping that MLC is going to be just as good and hope it will remain interesting throughout without too many boring moments.
I believe this is meant to be more Wuxia style than Xianxia so there is a strong chance it will deliver 100% as long as there aren't too many weak females in distress with annoying high pitched voices or overdone cliches.
Currently, Cheng Yi in this drama series is nothing like his other characters except maybe one. I'm sure as each episode unfolds there will be more to him than meets the eye.
Have watched 8 episodes now and although I like it - it isn't one of Cheng Yi's BEST drama series at all nor is it going to be one I'd rewatch compared to others.
32 episodes to go!
Made it to Episode 10 and don't know if I will continue - this is most definitely not Cheng Yi's greatest choice when it comes to dramas. His acting is fine, but he reminds me of another actor who played a very similar role. That actor was Li Hong Yi in The Blood Of Youth.
This would have been somewhat tolerable had it stayed with the three main males rather than bringing in an old love interest from the past, also, if Cheng Yi's character had more charisma and exceptional fighting techniques rather than a mere shadow of his former self with no fighting abilities whatsoever.
Cheng Yi needs to find another role like Si Feng only more Wuxia than Xianxia with little romance - bromance is fine!

When the Lotus Did Not Bloom
Ten years after disappearing from the jianghu following a fateful duel with Di Fei Sheng, the once legendary swordsman Li Xiang Yi resurfaces under a new identity as Li Lian Hua, a laid back traveling doctor. All he wants is a peaceful life on the road, but trouble has other plans. A bright eyed and persistent Fang Duo Bing latches onto him, while Di Fei Sheng himself returns, slowly piecing together the truth. As buried pasts come to light, the three men form an unexpected partnership, solving strange cases and standing up for justice along the way.I went into Mystery Lotus Casebook fully ready to fall in love. On paper, this drama has everything I usually enjoy. A fallen legend, a quiet life interrupted, mysterious cases, brotherhood, and that slightly melancholic wuxia atmosphere. And to be fair, from the very first episode, it is obvious that this is a well made and well written drama. The production is solid, the pacing is calm and confident, and the mysteries themselves are genuinely interesting. This is not a messy show by any means.
And yet, somewhere between solving cases and brewing herbal medicine, I got bored.
I kept waiting for the moment that would fully hook me, the spark that would make me hit next episode without thinking. Sometimes the humor landed and made me smile, but often it just floated by without much impact. The growing brotherly bond between the trio felt a little too slow for my personal taste, like watching a friendship bloom in real time when I was craving a bit more emotional punch upfront. I also understood the lack of romance given the genre and themes, but I did wish the drama offered something else to fill that gap and keep me invested on a deeper level.
My biggest struggle was Li Xiang Yi himself. I went in expecting a charismatic, magnetic former hero with layers of quiet pain. Instead, at least up until episode 4, he came across as oddly bland and a touch too self absorbed. I know this might be unfair since I did not get far, and character growth is clearly part of the journey here. Still, first impressions matter, and his presence did not pull me in the way I hoped.
So for now, I am dropping Mysterious Lotus Casebook. Not because it is bad, but because it simply did not click with me at this moment. I can absolutely see why others love it, and I may come back when I am in the mood for something slower and more contemplative. Until then, this is a respectful drop with the door left slightly open.

Mulțumesc frumosWas this review helpful to you?
Thought-provoking series
I haven't seen such a good martial arts drama for a long time. The action scenes are smooth and beautiful. I like it very much. Especially I appreciate the protagonist Li Lianhua's attitude towards his life. After watching this TV series, I have many new ideas about my work and future. Li Lianhua's story healed me. I used to feel that no drama would interest me anymore, but this show gives a great surprise. I even dreamed that I could live in that fantasy world so that I could see Lianhua with my own eyes. I wish I can be part of the show so that I can know more of the details of him. The design of all the customs and weapons elucidate what traditional Chinese society looks like. It makes me feel like I could go back in time to experience everything. Was this review helpful to you?
10/10 Talented actor Cheng Yi
10/10 Talented actor Cheng Yi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It is the long awaited martial art drama for me, has been following since production. The drama is based on novel of Lian Hua Lou Ji Xiang Wen (a moving caravan engraved with lotus design) and it tells the story about a hero who chose to lead a normal life after injury and his adventures in resolving mystical cases through his wisdom and skills, and he is moving around with his lotus caravan!
Love the acting of the main lead, Cheng Yi. He is playing dual role in the drama as Li Lian Hua, Li Xiang Yi, and he never disappoints me with his ability to connect with the audience through the character emotions.
Best martial art drama and the best summer drama in 2023 for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was this review helpful to you?

Devastada!

Seru banget!
Gak berekspektasi apa-apa pas nonton, tapi ternyata seru banget. Penulisan kasus-kasusnya rapi, chemistry pemainnya oke banget, aktingnya gak usah ditanya👌🏻👍🏻Sebenernya agak heran kenapa org balai baichuan (terutama yang cewek) gak ngenalin Li Xiangyi, padahal sebelumnya dia lihat Li Lianhua pakai topeng, dan 2x lihat gak pakai topeng. Menurutku minusnya cuma di sini aja. Apa gara-gara gak ketemu 10 tahun jadi ingatannya udah pudar?
Dracin terpanjang yg kutonton tp sama sekali gak berasa dan gak membosankan! Endingnya? Sesuai kepercayaan masing²😆
