BEST DRAMA OF THE YEAR

Honestly, no words needed.
I love the ML for the versitale acting, FL for EVERY emotional scene. Chemistry between them - one of the best that I've seen.
Princess Agents and Eternal Love are my favs and I'm still missing them and watching them on repeat. This drama gave me a subtle vibe of both. Everything was thoughtful and done with the taste. Tempo was amazing, not too fast and not too slow, enough to catch attention.
This drama finally gave me the fresh air. I highly doubt that I'll watch something better this year(and I'm quite happy about it).
Love Cheng Li in this drama. I hope he'll take more projects like this.

Not the Usual Plot: Captivating but Confusing

The Story is a bit confusing and left a 'why' in many scenes. Probably because the novel is actually very long and they tried to fit it into 38 episodes. Some part of past events are told in a short conversation later in the drama.

The story focused on the ML as the ordinary man who forget his past that somewhow turn into a superpower warrior, so there will be just a little portion of Cheng Lei as the Prince. A lot of romantic scene with FL, but lack of chemistry (comparing with other Cheng Lei FL).
CL acting are great as always, but SY wasn't that impressive.
Soundtrack are good. Nothing will goes wrong with Ning Ge as singer.
I continue watching because curious for the revealing moment of ML past. And it happend in a few last episodes.
I like the love story of ML and FL, but I'm not rooting for them. I prefer the 2nd couple , and I actually like the 3rd couple (their sad story make me scream whyyyyy).

Worth Watching!!!

I had downloaded the OST Sole Love by Liu Yu Ning a while ago but never started on the drama because of some of the negative comments. But let me tell you when I finally watched it, it was amazing!

First of all, some say the powers were too comic like but honestly I love thinking of this show like a superhero in Wuxia world. That's honestly an amazing cross over and helps differentiate it from the rest of the shows. A lot of the Wuxia shows are now literally all about revenge so it's very refreshing to see a kind of different plot.

Best things I love about this show:

- Hidden Identity (HI)- I don't normally count amnesia as HI since other shows have it that everyone knows who the lead is but the lead themselves don't know which is weird. But this one was a kin to HI. There was HI when he was kind of hiding the man in black identity so reveals for that was good. Then there's HI for when his prince identity actually comes to light (to basically all at the same time). So love the many reveals and I live off of that.
- Superhero powers- only ML has this so it's actually quite different than other Wuxia shows where everyone and everywhere pops out a grand master.
- OST amazing, not only the Sole Love song which was played sparingly but epically so you know an epic take over fight was going to go down. But the other songs were great too.
- The leads acted well, both of them. Looks wise not the highest on my books but they have their charms. (I like Cheng Lei better as a Villian or Anti Hero). The side characters Su Mu Yang (prince) and Mo Ying (Wuling) were so hot/cute. I've seen Bi Wen Jun act in A Class of Her Own but he was just meh looking there. Literally trying to compare and see why he's so much hotter here- great job on the hair and styling.
- Side character plots were nice for the most part, ups and downs.
- I'll just sound like a girly girl here but I loved the superhero cross over with vampires as well with all the blood sucking. Also never seen this before in a full length historical C drama.
- Speaking of, drama was pretty hot on the hot scale. Kiss in the first scene and many dispersed. Sweet kisses, rough kisses, very long kisses, in bed kisses. All the variations.
- I also like when one lead stays consistent in suffering more. Which was clearly the FL here. So I can sympathize the whole way with her.

Some things that make me downgrade to 9 from 9.5 (I don't normally ever do 10)

- This is not a scheming show. But even then, it felt like the choices that the characters did were a bit not thought out and sudden.
Some examples- Qing Er taking her own life when being held hostage- with her fighting skills so can probably get out of that hold- don't think they broke her tendons yet.
And then the whole FL and ML in You state parting when she didn't need to go. Why didn't the ML make it clearer that he remembered all the times that they were together?
Then when FL went back to the country, and the ministers were calling for her death??? That was so weird, one esteemed General did one mistake and instead of just punishing them or banishing them etc, you need them to die? They have no other lead generals. And also generally the ministers can be influenced to say certain things when they're your ally. I guess that means that the new Emperor really has no one in his camp and that they're all impartial ministers now or even trying to be against him? But at least the twist ending helped make up.

But overall, amazing show!!! Worth the watch if you like vampiric superhero Wuxia with hidden identity!

a shiny, glittering, enjoyable mess

I genuinely did not know how to rate this series so here is my rambling review. it's objectively not that great but I have thoroughly enjoyed it and not sure I've ever run into quite this issue before.

I want to give it 3/10 for being trash on a lot of levels. some of that seems to be a lack of commitment on the direction side. take the antagonists for example, they are literally parodies of themselves. but instead of fully leaning into that, Joker-style, we are expected to understand them as serious characters? meanwhile that Empress Dowager and her creepily obsessed sidekick will forever be jokes. technically it could have been better. fight choreography seems a little messy. you can see the intent and it's not unattractive to watch but a lot of that is on Cheng Lei and the costume people.

yet I want to rate it 9/10 for vibes. it's rare that I have this much fun watching anything. the storyline was surprisingly solid and although I couldn't care less about any of the side characters, the leads were entertaining and gave enough that I could fool myself into accepting some really odd behaviour and even odder superpowers.

so overall, a comfortable 7.5/10. not an average of the extremes because the enjoyment exceeded the criticisms. watch it if you want something pretty and fun and you're able to or want to turn off most of your non-lizard brain cells. also if topless Leizi is a thing that might please you enough to counter anything negative. don't bother if you're in drama spaces looking for intellectually or emotionally deep works. also be aware that while there is a perception that it's an enemies-to-lovers story, enemies is a mere ant compared to the great pear tree of lovers so don't be disappointed at that balance.

Strong Start, Emotional Ending… But Not Without Some Weird Moments

Shadow Love hooked me right away — the pacing was great in the beginning, and the story had a strong emotional pull. Cheng Lei really stood out as the male lead, especially once the shadow puppet powers came in. Those scenes were visually cool and added excitement to the plot.

But when he turned into a child, I was honestly uncomfortable. She’s an adult, and he was suddenly a little boy lying next to her. Thankfully, that part didn’t last long and was handled better than expected — but I still wish it wasn’t included at all.

The main couple had great chemistry, but the deeper kiss scenes were awkward. The lip movement felt stiff, which pulled me out of those big romantic moments 🫣. On the other hand, the second couple stole my heart, and I’m still mad we didn’t get a kiss from them!

Visually, the drama is stunning, but the music didn’t work for me. It lacked emotional impact, which is a shame since music usually sets the tone for me.

Despite some flaws and filler in the middle, the ending was worth it. Emotional, satisfying, and left me glad I finished it. If you enjoy fantasy romance with depth and healing, give it a shot — just be ready for a few bumps along the way.

A story of love and duty...

This is a love story, in a war stricken land. Two people, two enemies unintentionally grow to love each other, while navigating amidst the weight of their responsibilities.
The story is really intriguing and the cast did an amazing job, bringing the characters to life. I especially feel the need to mention Ryan Cheng. In my opinion he was the backbone of this show. Everyone did great, but I have to admit that whenever he was on frame, his presence was always noticeable, his acting is memorable and he just pulls the audience in. I liked how there was a clear distinction between each identity of his, and the switch between them could be easily noticed. Also he is literally gorgeous, he is both athletic and handsome, exuding a strong and reliable vibe which really suits the general archetype, but with a hint of mystery and charm added in it. His eyes and micro expressions were amazing.
I also LOVED Tan Kai's portrayal as Li Wei (Li Shuang's adoptive father). He was a perfect cast as a strong, reliable and battle-hardened commander. Mr Tan Kai beautifully showcased a seasoned general who also is a loving father to his children and is willing to sacrifice himself for their happiness and the common good.
Song Yi portrayed Li Shuang (General Li) quite well. She is very pretty and has a very beautiful smile. General Li was not over the top imposing nor too cold, like we see in some other portrayals of female generals. She is strong and resilient, but also has a softer side, which can either be good or bad, depending on the situation. Her acting was not bad, but unfortunately I have to admit that I was expecting a lot more in certain scenes. I believe that her eyes needed to be more expressive and I expected to see a bit more work in her micro expressions. Her eyes felt a bit void of heavy and complex emotions. To me they usually conveyed basic emotions, which can be a bit flat. What I mean is, in certain situations, we can experience complex emotions, which are a mix of basic emotions. For instance a blend of emotions like sadness, fear, anger, and denial all together mixed to showcase grief. If instead we only show sadness, it can come off a bit flat. And that's exactly my complaint here. I felt like her eyes usually didn't convey complex emotions, which in turn made the acting feel a bit flat at times.
Gao Mao Tong did very well as Ji Ran, I actually felt really bad for him at the end (at that point I was crying). To me it looked like he'd never be with anyone in his life (as he had said so before), in order to serve his country. Beyond his love for the country, in a way it felt like he had correlated his love for the FL, with his dedication to his country. The more he couldn't confess to the fl, the more he dedicated he was. He knew the FL wanted to achieve peace and prosperity for the people and so, since he couldn't be with her, he focused on preserving her life's work/ goals. We can see this mindset brewing even before the FL's "death", in the first episodes, as he probably thought it almost impossible to be with her.
I also particularly like how Lu Xin ended up with Mo Yin and not Ji Ran. Her relationship with Ji Ran was unequal, had a skewed dynamic since the beginning, as she was the one following around and even harassing him, with him clearly setting boundaries and her ignoring them (I'm sorry but stealing and washing his undergarments WITHOUT approval, is harassment and creepy). With Mo Yin they started on an equal standing, slowly got to know each other, became closer and ended up falling in love. It felt organic and they actually were a very cute couple, where they mutually respected each other. They were equals, It wasn't a situation of one running after, trying to please the other, begging for crumbs of love.
Darren Chen was great as Mo Yin and so was Bi Wen Jun as Su Mu Yang. I actually felt pity for the crown prince in the end and somewhere in the 1st half (when we found out his father had threatened him with the fl's life, in order to marry another girl). He was in love with the fl, but didn't manage to keep her. He always seemed eager to be with her and lost her because he tried to protect her. In that situation and considering how he had grown up, he really seemed pitiful and I honestly felt bad for him. Not to say that he was a saint, cause he absolutely was NOT. I just find it sad how he couldn't be with the one he loved, and could literally do nothing about it, as his own father would either kill her or her family (if they tried to elope or something). Towards the end he becomes more and more antagonistic, and I kind of doubt how he could become a reliable king. Overall I'd say that he is cowardly, cunning and a pitiful character.
Zhao Yuan Yuan did really well as Empress Dowager Qin.
The FL's brother was really annoying for most of the novel, he was extremely impulsive and naïve. I felt really bad for Qiao Er (the guard friend of the fl that died- played by Rain Lu) and for Ouyang Jun (played by Liu Yi Hong), they would've had a beautiful life together.
All in all a good drama to watch.

Let yourself be carried away by this story ;)

PLOT: The FL, a general of country A, takes in an amnesiac kid (more or less vampire, with whom she shares a "blood bond"). The kid quickly transforms into a very protective adult (with extraordinary intermittent powers). Their bond strengthens, but they find themselves mired in power struggles [the crazy king & the cruel 1st prince want to kill the CP, who still ends up ascending the throne and wants to marry the FL].
The ML is actually Prince Annang (young king's brother of enemy country B) whom the conspiring empress and her Evil Mage tried to transform into a Puppet Warrior. The empress detains the emperor (more or less dead), installs her son on the throne, and becomes regent.

+++ Extraordinary CL with Song Yi and Ryan Cheng ヽ(♡‿♡)ノ who bring to life three endearing, adorable, and charismatic characters. Their performances are phenomenal in both the fight and emotional scenes, and create a beautiful alchemy.
+++ CGI are top-notch (*^‿^*), especially the ML transformation.
+++ Excellent cast with famous and talented actors (including the villains, who are detestable ;)
+++ Excellent OSTs that effectively enhance the mood of the scenes.
+++ Flawless direction: 2 great producers [Deng Ke & Gao Cong Kai] ensure superb cinematography: pacing, framing, lighting, costumes, fight scenes, etc. PERFECT ヽ(♡‿♡)ノ

### No hint of humor :( Viewers are surfing on many other emotions (love, courage, sadness, friendship, jealousy, etc.), but have no opportunity to laugh or smile...

=> A MUST-TO-SEE without a doubt (to watch and rewatch -- it's hard to leave these characters behind) that demonstrates the breadth of Ryan Cheng's talent.

Leurs liens se renforcent mais ils se retrouvent englués ds des luttes de pouvoir [roi cinglé & 1e prince cruel veulent tuer le CP, qui finit qd mm par monter s/ le trône et veut épouser la FL].
Le ML est en fait le Prince Annang (frère du roi du pays B ennemi) que l'impératrice conspiratrice et son Evil mage, ont essayé de transformer en Puppet Warrior. L'impératrice détient l'empereur (+/- mort), installe son fils s/ le trône et devient régente.

+++ CL extraordinaire avec Song Yi et Ryan Cheng ヽ(♡‿♡)ノ qui donne vie à 3 personnages attachants, adorables et charismatiques. Leur performance est phénoménale tant dans les scènes de fight que d'émotion, et créent une belle alchimie.

What a lovely drama !!! Oh my god this has to be best best drama I ever watched this package is perfectly complete it has Romance, Fight, fantasy,admire,bromance, second leads love, such a interesting..
From episode (1-20) comes with war and romance but after 25th episode every scene is intresting i really enjoyed watching this, i usually don't write about plot in detail.
What a man?!!?!? Seriously..
Damn he is soooooo hot!!!!His eyes speaks a lottt. He has 3 identity which can easily differentiate between eyes and expressions.He has wonderful physique, his back,his abs , perfect masculine actor perfectly suits character,( not like skinny but can fight over 10000 soilders).. i think in 1&25 th episode so damn hot daddy material , lovely romance between Leads and FL is perfect to be genaral fierce, rude, bold , and that girl from( dear mr heavenly fox) loved her too . I suggest this to watch.

I wanted to like Shadow Love, but there were a few things that made the drama feel unbelievable for me. Normally, I start with what I liked, but this time I’ll begin with the things I wish had been different.

The Female Lead
As a general, I was expecting a strong, strategic woman who constantly showcased her skills on the battlefield. Instead, her character was often caught between family obligations and the burden of upholding her family’s name. That left her feeling less like a capable general and more like someone who leaned too often toward being a damsel in distress.

It makes sense, then, why the male lead was able to defeat her while he was still Prince Annang. I’m not sure if this was a directorial choice or just how Song Yi’s acting came across, but it reminded me of her role in Luoyang, where her character also felt heavily influenced by external obligations. To be fair, she grew on me in Destined, where she played a smart and resourceful woman who managed her household well. That’s why I struggled with her portrayal here. Don’t get me wrong—she is a strong character in this series, but not in the way I would expect from a “female general.” Half the time, I wanted her to win battles on her own, but instead, the male lead was always by her side. Maybe the writers intended this as a build-up for their bond later, but I just wasn’t feeling it.

The Storyline
I usually love dramas about two nations at odds, with leads from opposite sides. This series had that setup, but the plot leaned heavily into politics: wars with Yao, the throne struggle, and infighting between princes. For me, it was a little too much politics and not enough focus on the emotional stakes.

What I Liked

• The chemistry between the leads was fantastic. Cheng Lei always has great on-screen chemistry with his female co-stars, and I think it’s the way he conveys emotion through his eyes.
• Cheng Lei as the male lead really surprised me. I didn’t expect him to be so cute and aloof in certain scenes, yet he still nailed the cold, commanding prince persona when needed.
• The second half of the drama worked better for me. Maybe it’s because I was expecting more of an “enemies-to-lovers” arc from the beginning, instead of the memory-loss angle (which I didn’t realize was part of the story since I skipped the synopsis).

Overall, I think it's a great series if the enemies-to-lovers trope is your thing, especially if you're a fan of Cheng Lei and Song Yi. Honestly, I’m glad I watched Legend of the Female General first, because if I had started with Shadow Love, I don’t think I would’ve stuck with it. I do think Female General influenced how I view the female lead here, so I’m knocking off a few stars because I was hoping for more.
