Another disappointing general for Ryan Cheng
Another great story and cast ruined by horrendous acting of the female general. In both legend of the female general and here in shadow love - wrong casting, bad acting..I am sorry but generals do not act that way:- you go into battle without a sword?
- unable to do minimal strategy? Freeze?
- wilting flower tactics? Really?
- wearing diamonds in a military camp?
- adolescent temper tantrums .. in a general?
- you want world peace but you immediately threaten a child with a sword?
- I see the obsession with ultra thin/ borderline anoerexic female actresses but doesn’t the director think it might be stretching it that the sword itself is almost as heavy as the woman?
And legions of men, warriors respect this and follow into war?
The rest of the cast are great. But this actress in shadow love and the one in female general are beyond disappointing.
These show are fantastically written- I love that we are seeing women as generals and leading armies - but can we make it at least believable?
Or is it on purpose? These actresses play generals that are not believable so we are subconsciously told that a female general could never happen…

Another C-drama without substance
I watched 6 episodes, then i took a break, then to day i tried to watch episode 7, but i can't so i decided to drop for good. There are (in my point of view) honest a lot of C-drama without substance but with famous actors/actresses. Shadow Love is unfortunately and simply one of them.
It i such a great pity that Song Yi played a role in this drama because i like her so much.
While acting is not bad, as no substance in the story, the actors/actresses can not help but play along with.
Episode 6 actually the worse of the first 6 episodes where FL punished her fake brother with 30 lashes - my patience ended and stopped watching - still today i tried with ep 7, but simply I can't. Therefore I dropped at episode 6.
The audience is vary - from all around the world, many might run after the names of actors/actresses yet some may look for the meaningfulness of a storyline.

Screen writer ethics
It is a shame that they actually remove the main screenwriter from the list due to Yu Meng Long death tragedy. One of the main screenwriter is Li Meng aka as Guang Guang which the actor actually died in his apartment. The Beijing police have to concluded suicide with no filing of the case or investigation because this screen writer has red elite backing. Justice for Yu Meng Long. Was this review helpful to you?
Incredible Fantasy ART
This storyline was awesome. The fantasy elements felt incredibly real — especially the body art and the face mask on Cheng Lei’s character, Jinan. Honestly, whoever wrote this has an exceptionally imaginative mind. At times it felt like Cheng Lei stepped straight out of the screen — almost 3D.I’m still trying to figure out whose soul it belonged to and whether that character was immortal. That mystery stayed with me long after the episode ended. The writer truly should create another story centered on the supernatural warrior Cheng Lei portrayed — it was that good.
Song Yi was also excellent as a female warrior general. Though she’s a petite actress, she carried the role with strength and confidence and made it completely believable.
Everything worked together beautifully — the fantasy, the storyline, the music, and the sets were all perfectly balanced. And the horses… I loved them. The actors who rode them did a great job as well.
And I promise — I won’t mention Cheng Lei’s eyes. 😏

Even Cheng Lei could not save this drama
I'm skeptical about Song Yi as she doesn't have much expression in My Heroic Husband and Joy of LifeDecided to give her a chance in Shaow Love, what's more she is paired with Cheng Lei which I thought would be awesome
Watched two episodes and dropped then gave a second chance and continued until five
Song Yi as compared to Zhou Ye omg as I just finished LOTFG which was why I immediately chose SL but this is so disappointing sigh please just don't act in dramas again Song Yi I beg you

I Didnt Know There Would be Some Mystical Fantasy
I watched it for Cheng Lei but i got disappointed. at the first ep there was this mystical magical fantasy scenes and i'm not into that kind of drama.geeat acting by Cheng Lei as always.
Songyi however, i dont think she suits the general role. she doesnt have the charisma of a female general. she did her best but still she couldnt bring out the general aura. if i could choose an actress for the role, i'd choose Bailu or Zhu Xudan or Liu Shishi.
the opening theme is good but the background music can be annoying sometimes.
ao i dropped thia drama at ep 2, i couldnt get myself to enjoy it even with Cheng Lei in it.

Pretty lame tbh
This show is like Just an average show that you can watch when you're bored or something. I give it a 5 out of 10. And I have watched i think 11 episode so far. The female general always needs saving and she's just not very convincing as like a bad a*s female general. And when ML turns into a kid, it literally makes no sense and is never explained. Even the fights scenes and the war scenes are just horrible.I just finished watching legend of female general and the fightings were so amazing. This show is such a let down honestly. Ill probably end up dropping it.Was this review helpful to you?

"Mo Yin and Lu Xin: The Perfect Duo in Shadow Love"
Review of Shadow LoveI really enjoyed Shadow Love! The storyline was engaging, kept my attention, and managed to be emotional at several points. Overall, the cast was very good, and the main leads had great chemistry, which made the story even more interesting. The soundtrack also deserves praise—it’s beautiful and fits perfectly with the scenes.
I especially want to highlight Darren Chen’s performance as Mo Yin. He was simply incredible! Even though he was only a special guest, he managed to stand out in a remarkable way. His acting gave the character depth and conveyed a lot of emotion. The relationship between Mo Yin and Lu Xin was truly charming, forming a perfect pair within the story.
Overall, it was a really well-made and touching production. I enjoyed it a lot and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful drama with a good storyline, a talented cast, and a wonderful soundtrack.

rivals and lovers in the shadows ❤️?
finished 9/10 ✨This has been one of the most surprising dramas for me in 2025 because I didn't have many expectations for it and I still liked it a lot... Cheng Lei is an excellent actor, this has definitely been his year of discovery... I hope to continue seeing more of his projects 👏... Song Yi is a wonderful actress and I feel she deserves much more recognition, she's simply phenomenal 👏
Aside from some technical details like the editing, which had some terrible moments, and some poorly done special effects, the story and the characters are very enjoyable... I liked the ending, perhaps they would have given the king a more fair ending because he did quite a bit of damage to the story, but it's a drama worth checking out ✨
