Kyoto, with its old, traditional landscapes, is also a city of students. Konoe is a century-old student dorm that still exists today and has kept the feel of the 1960s and 1970s student activism alive. The university decides to close down the aging dorm, but the students who still reside in and maintain it continue to negotiate with the school as if to inherit the spirit of the past student movements. The dorm is a symbol of freedom, and the film, with a touch of comedy, depicts the students' fight against oppression.
