Not an average "sickness plot" movie!

This movie is outstanding. I didn't expect it to be this good. I thought it will be just those average Japanese movie where the female lead sick and stuff.. maybe this will be like Ishuukan Friends, as their main plot are Amnesia.

BUT IT IS NOT

Before I talk about the plot, let's talk about other things.
Don't worry I won't spoil anything especially the plot because it's more enjoyable when you know nothing. You're welcome.

This movie is aesthetically pleasing. Every scene is beautiful. The soft colours and how the sun shine through, it's really fit the concept and story.
The music is really good, but nothing special in my opinion.
The cast is perfect, especially the trio. They reprised the role perfectly. I don't think I should talk about both main leads, they did perfectly, a really cute couple. But I don't expect much from Izumi-chan yet she "stole" the show. Finally someone do justice to the couple's friend lol
I cried twice and one of them was because Izumi-chan's scene.

Now the plot, this is what makes this movie is not an average Japanese movie with sick lead.
The plot dynamic is perfect. Not boring at all despite it's slow pace. I love how it's actually a flashback, and being told simultaneously between Maori, Izumi, and Tooru. I also love how this movie bring up Tooru's family problem in a very neat way. This movie catch me off guards with the plot twist, it has been a long time since I cried because a movie! I just cried twice lol
Comparing with the trailer, I really love that it doesn't give any spoiler and no one would know what's coming. The 3 rules of Tooru and Maori relationship mentioned but finally explained at the end of the movie.
The explanation about memories and the system is really make sense too, I'm not an expert but it's not cliché and not romanticized the problem here. This is really matter when a movie, drama, or whatever it is took a plot about any kind of sickness.
As expected from a novel adaptated movie.

Now I'm not surprised with the fact about how successfull this movie even in South Korea.
So proud of my baby Micchie! (Yes, I actually watch it because of him)

Lastly, I hope Netflix could pick this movie for their platform! This movie fit Netflix style... and of course I would like to let everyone in this world enjoy this movie and know that Japanese movie is really good lol

A movie about treasuring each day no matter what.

I hope I'm not too biased in writing this review just because I'm a fan of Micchi (Michieda Shunsuke) but I just think that this movie is really good. Even just from watching the trailer, it has greatly piqued my interest. At first, the plot reminded me of the series One Week Friends, where the girl also had amnesia, except her memories reset each week instead.

**SPOILERS**
The start of the movie greatly hints on what eventually happens later in the movie, which is something that I didn't really like but I guess that's what made me want to continue watching it even more. And with how Toru and Maori's relationship started, you'd think it's a typical "fake dating" trope, but in my opinion, it wasn't, their chemistry didn't feel forced and it really looked like they enjoyed each other's company. It was painful still, because for Maori, she was meeting this stranger for the first time everyday and she always had to put up a front. The part that I really liked was from the point when Toru found out about her illness, because at this point, Toru had actually fallen in love with Maori and despite knowing that she forgets him everyday, he was determined to make her everyday fun. One of my favorite lines in this movie was when Toru was talking to his sister about Maori, when he said "When there are fun things written in her diary, it would be nice if when she reads it, she'd be able to look forward to everyday, even if just for a bit.", my heart hurt a bit when I heard him say that but at the same time, I felt so much respect for this character.

I think all the characters in this movie was well-written, I also liked Maori's friend, Izumi, who is always there to help her no matter what, and she also eventually supported Toru and Maori's relationship so much. She was truly one of the important characters in the movie as she also played an important role towards the end of the film. Although one thing that I didn't quite understand was the relationship between Toru and his family, but I do think that showing this was necessary especially for the ending of the movie.

Overall, I recommend this movie if you just wanna cry and feel all kinds of emotions. I will not forget the dread I felt when I finished watching this, I couldn't stop thinking about it. It made me think "Ah, this is why this movie was so popular". At first, everything would seem slow but it will just hit you like a truck towards the end so I think it's a movie worth watching lol it will make you think about a lot of things in life.

A movie not recommended for fragile hearts

Despite all the disclaimers and notices stating that it's gonna hurt , I eventually watched it on a saturday night alone :')

I guess I wanted to challenge myself not to cry no matter what but ... I guess you can tell what happened. I literally cried my balls out for the last 30 minutes nonstop. It's been so long since I sobbed so loud when crying, to the point that I lost breath! (Yes it's this serious)

Indeed all the actors did great but my hat goes off to Tooru especially. I cried for him. It's true, that the story is about Hino but it was Tooru who struggled the most. He is the pitiful one. The poor guy didn't have a single happy day in his life and when Hino came in it, things were starting to change and we would see a glimpse of hope but hey how would the writers and director make me cry then :')

I knew it since the first scene in the film, that Tooru won't be around anymore! but throughout the movie, I begged for them to "save" him! However, it won't be called a plot twist this way. Yes! It was a plot twist (though I won't call it that way for me because I was expecting it). Because you would get immersed in Hino's story that you won't notice what's coming.

My heart ached for Tooru not Hino.
Nonetheless, I loved the movie!

Just a small advice: don't watch it on a working day, your eyes will be puffy next morning :)

I rated the "Rewatch value" low because I WON'T watch it again! don't wanna cry my heart out again! NEVER!

Tender, romantic, and sad

Japanese filmmakers have an extraordinary ability to craft delicate and heartfelt romance stories, and this film is no exception. It takes you on an emotional journey, lifting your spirits with happiness and grounding you with deep, sorrowful moments. It’s a cinematic experience that lingers in your heart.

A Love That Evolves Beautifully
The narrative unfolds at a gentle, unhurried pace, but as Toru and Maori’s bond deepens, the story becomes increasingly poignant and captivating. True love is revealed through selfless acts, and the romance depicted here feels genuine, even though it doesn’t start that way. Beyond the love story, the film also highlights an unwavering friendship between Maori and Isumi, which is equally touching.

The chemistry between the leads is nothing short of perfect, drawing you into their connection. Watching such pure and kind-hearted characters is a refreshing change from the darker, grittier stories that dominate modern cinema. It reminds us that goodness, real love, and lifelong friendships still exist.

A Balance Between Hope and Reality
While the film celebrates love and friendship, it doesn’t shy away from reality. It’s not an overly sugary or unrealistic portrayal of life. Instead, it subtly reminds us that even the most beautiful moments come with their share of pain and that perfection is fleeting in our imperfect world.

If you’ve ever dreamed of finding a partner who loves and accepts you completely—flaws and all—this movie captures that ideal beautifully. But it also gently grounds you, showing that life on Earth comes with challenges, and happiness isn’t eternal. It’s a poignant message: cherish the moments you have, even if they’re tinged with sorrow.

A Lasting Impact
The film explores how memories shape us, not just in our minds but in our very being. Even when memories fade, the feelings they’ve etched into our souls remain. This profound theme is handled with great care, leaving a lasting impression on the viewer.

Overall, this is a beautifully crafted film that strikes the perfect balance between hope and heartbreak. It’s a reminder of the beauty in selfless love, enduring friendship, and the bittersweet nature of life. Truly a masterpiece that stays with you long after the credits roll.

So sad..

I really loved this story but it was just so so so sad to ever watch again.. It's the same vibe as 20th century girl, extremely heartbreaking. I would never watch this again, I just wish there was another movie with an alternate ending, I hate sad endings so much they break my heart. If you watch this prepare to cry a lot (unless you aren't bothered by movies..) The plot was so good for being a movie and the character growth just from 2 hours was fantastic. I enjoyed 1 hour and 20 minutes of this movie. Also.. did anyone else get the vibe Izumi liked Maori?

Watched this to fill my Alphabet challenge. But in the end I was quite happy to watch this.

Story about Hino Maori & Kamiya Tooru. Their story started when Tooru made a false confession to Maori. Even though she knows that the confession is a lie, Maori says yes with the three rules: "Don't talk to me until after school, Keep communication brief, and Don't fall in love with each other.

The two promise not to fall in love, but as they get to know each other, they find themselves drawn to each other. But one day, Tooru finally knew the reason for Maori to set the rule for their relationship. Maori suffer from anterograde amnesia, the brain damage that will make her forget all the things when she falls asleep.

Like 50 first dates, Maori also got this because of the accident. & she keeps a diary to take note about everything that's going on that day to be read the next day.

Knowing this fact didn't stop Tooru from going out with Maori. Tooru is devoted to bringing her as much happiness as possible. So, how will their relationship end? Will it be like 50 first dates, where they get married…? Or will this end with a sad ending…?

That's pretty much the story without giving much of the spoiler.

This is a really good movie about how amazing our body & brain actually are. Even though Maori’s memories erased every day, in the end her body remembered.

If I have to put myself in Maori shoes, with diseases like Maori. I really don't know how stressed I will be. And the decision taken by Wataya Izumi… I think it's the right one…

Overall this is really one good movie….

best drama

When i say this is one of the best dramas ive ever watched then its really one of the best. The overall plot is awesome and easy to follow. The chemistry between the characters is really good. Their acting is really top tier and i enjoyed every second of it. The way they also portray the feelings and how they make the viewer understand their emotions is absolutely awesome. For me, personally, it was a roller coaster ride watching it. I would definitely watch this drama again. This drama is fun, but it also involves being confronted with a lot of emotions.

As in the summary of the movie this not a typical happy ever after movie

The best scene of this movie which i like is the scene where they were together watching the fireworks. the boy promised that he will always stay with her ( which he can't fulfill because later he will find out the reason) then they kiss but the girl wish that she didn't want to forget the moments. when i watch this scene first times i thought maybe they will have happy ending together later in the movie but i was wrong. so if you have watched this movie my question are you okay. Thank You for reading my review. ✌️

Beautiful

This is a beautiful movie about love, what people will do for love, and the power of love. When I watch Japanese movies or dramas, the movies seem too short, and the dramas too long. I wanted more of this movie. The editing and what happened in the movie were just to abrupt. I felt that the important things just got a slight mention and then the story quickly moved on.

The actors were all good. This movie was understated and calm. It was living a daily life of a girl that has to start over every day. Reading the signs posted in her bedroom, reading and writing in her journal every day. I was kind of bothered that she spent most of her time with her phone up in her face, taking pictures or videos, but it made sense to the story.

There's a twist that I didn't see coming. And boy, Japanese filmmakers sure know how to wring the emotions from a person!

Overall.. 10/10

this movie left me grinning from ear to ear, eyes swelling with tears, some moments at the same time. Totally captivated by the acting, visuals, settings, music, and the PLOT. Portrayed so well. Really felt the true understanding and heart of ML.
So touching and honestly really sad what the Second FL goes through during this whole whirlwind. her tears brought upon my tears.
ugh why so sad though.
Definitely realistic and stuck to the plot. No drama, just a heartbreaking romance with a true illness.

ready to cry

As Malaysians, we believe that if something starts off too joyful, it might lead to sadness later on. I was a mess, with tears streaming down my face and my shirt soaked.

The emotional journey this film takes you on is incredible, blending moments of happiness with deep, heartfelt sorrow. It’s the kind of movie that stays with you long after the credits roll. The storytelling is powerful, and the characters are so well-crafted that you can’t help but feel everything they go through.

THIS MOVIE IS A MUST-WATCH—MISSING IT WOULD BE A CRIME! Whether you’re ready for the emotional ride or not, this is one film you won’t want to skip.

this aint a cliche sickness movie...

Even if This Love Disappears From the World Tonight* hit me right in the heart. Uff, it’s a gorgeously filmed love story that truly dives into what it means to love someone when time and even memory are slipping away. The leads are bound by a promise that’s both heartbreaking and beautiful, and as their bond grows, the story pulls you deeper with it. This isn’t your usual “sickness” trope; it’s about the fleeting magic of love and how memories shape us, even as they fade. If you’re into emotional, thought provoking stories, this one’s an absolute must-watch.
