The Scooby-Doo Gang Minus A Goofy Dog

I was anticipating the reunion between Jung Il Woo and Yuri after being blown away by their pairing in Bossam: Steal the Fate. So when I saw that one of the genres was crime & mystery, I was looking forward to a detective show where both leads would deploy their abilities and work (and flirt) together to solve crimes and deal with the darker side of humanity.

Well, this show was that but not really that either. I can only say that it was a novel, mash-up of genres and had an interesting, chaotic dynamic about it. The show kicked off with great energy and mostly maintained the fast paced action throughout that kept me interested. I knew that there was comedy but I did not expect such silly, slapstick humor and ridiculous set ups. I supposed the opening credits in comic book style should have given me a hint that this show did not take itself seriously. Each episode required one to suspend disbelief, sit back and enjoy the ride which I totally did. I found every episode hilarious and entertaining.

Even though the show was all over the place, with tons of inconsistencies and plot holes, there was still a main storyline with the ML, Eun Seon Woo trying to find the murderer of his mother. Actually a prominent chaebol, Seon Woo opened a detective agency as a front for his investigation. Helping him was his sidekick and probably only friend, Yang Jin Mo, a brilliant lawyer who was also incredibly tech-savvy. I gotta say, Yang Jin Mo had the best lines throughout the show and Eum Moon Suk played this funny character very well.

Along the way, Seon Woo met Don Se Ra and ended up having her as part of his undercover team and while the romance between the two main leads took a slower path, culminating only in the last couple of episodes, Yang Jin Mo and Se Ra’s best friend and baker, Sa Na Hee played by Song San Eun, went on a much faster track.

The four main characters had great rapport and played off each other so well. Il Woo again impressed me with his ability to emote different feelings via his micro-expressions and his eyes, oh his eyes…Yuri took Don Se Ra, a character that I found irritating at first due to her self-righteous stubbornness and evolved her into a likable FL. The chemistry between Il Woo and Yuri did not disappoint! Even though I had hoped for more kisses to make up for the lack of in Bossam, I still enjoyed watching their interactions on screen. Jin Mo and Na Hee, on the other hand, made me cringe but also laughed a lot - their overacting and silly antics never failed to tickle my funny bone.

Really, these four reminded me of the Scooby-Doo gang minus a goofy dog. They even had a van that the real Scooby-Doo gang would be proud of! I was happy to see Lee Joon Hyuk who was also in Bossam as Director Hong. He was another character that delivered the right amount of comic relief.

The antagonists fell flat for me though with some wooden acting but Hong Woo Jin deserved kudos for playing a secret psychopath.

The music track was great - the opening song and the other ones were upbeat and lent an uplifting tone that was apparent throughout the show. For posterity, I added the list of songs below.

Overall, even though I can see why “Good Job” could be a hit or miss with most people, I would recommend that you give it a try. It is watchable, bingeable really with only 12 episodes, has many great moments and ends on a high note.

Witty, enthusiastic … Great Job!

This show is so entertaining, I have seen my handful of comedies but this one does the best with balancing its themes. It has crime and mystery in it, but isn’t keeping a dark tone and is overall lighthearted and a really fun watch.

The comedy in this show is what sells it for me. It’s a more of a show don’t tell. I love the character dynamics as they all are great together. Lots of credit goes to the main trio and especially the leads. They clearly have the chemistry and I can tell they are comfortable with each other from being in different projects before. It’s amazing to me how they came together from a completely different drama, but take their new characters and add the charisma and charm and do it so well.

At first I was confused about Sun Woo being a chairman and a detective, but I found myself really loving the double identity there. With each persona he has his true personality seeps through, quick tempered and peculiar about things, but he isn’t a total jerk. He is very likeable as arrogant as he is because you know he was orphaned and had big shoes to fill. Se Ra is also very well done, she is her own woman with lots of passion. I like how they both have secrets and find them out very soon in the show. I can’t wait to see them get together and am already seeing so many sparks amidst the absurdity they go through together.

Overall this show is doing the comedy well and the mystery.. the two things it’s going for are understandable and it’s more than enjoyable to watch. Impressed by the acting by Kwon Yuri, SNSD girls are multitalented and so much fun. Jung Il Woo is very charming with this character and after watching Cinderella and the Four Knights I am happy to see him in a role that lets him be badass and fun, but also much more matured with this drama. So far a solid 9/10 hoping it doesn’t run itself dry (I don’t think it will)

Good job checking as many of the wrong boxes as possible

"Good Job" is less of an earnest attempt to create a traditional drama and more of a tutorial on how to pack an industry's worth of cliche's in to a single production.

Rich boy/poor girl plot? Check.

Wrist grabs? Check.

Preparing a meal for romantic interest? Check.

Rooftop apartment? Check.

Orphanage? Check.

Suicide attempt? Check.

Blind date scene? Check.

Turning the back on the bad guy to have the following exhcange "Are you ok?" "I'm ok" "Are you sure you're ok" "I'm ok" while the bad guy escapes? Check.

Police officers that never seem to have any backup? Check.

Young, rich, spoiled bully that hangs out at the club? Check.

There's a storyline although it's stretched thinner than the top of a snare drum. Impossibly young conglomerate CEO Eun Sun Woo plays hooky from his day job to secretly investigate his mother's death twenty years prior to present day action. He is joined by former orphan with supervision Don Se Ra. Together, they dress up in disguises and screw up and bail themselves out of more catch-the-villain schemes than anyone not accompanied by a talking Great Dane and operating out of the Mystery Machine. Oh and, of course, they're super attracted to each other but pretend not to be for what feels like half the duration of the Cretaceous Era.

But at least there's some nice diversions that pop up on a regular basis. Lee Joon Hyuk gets some nice comic moments as the ignored assistant to Eun Sun Woo. Eum Moon Suk and Song Sang Eun are given free reign to go as ridiculous as possible as the best friends to the leads and secondary couple. Award winning stuff? No but worth a few chuckles in a show mostly bereft of positive moments.

Neither Jung Il Woo nor Kwon Yu Ri fare as well as Eun Sun Woo and Don Se Ra respectively. In both cases, it's partially that neither have more than two or three expressions (1. bemused & feigning surprise 2. mildly annoyed and 3. overwrought concern for Jung Il Woo with 1. nervous half smile and 2. no expression for Kwon Yu Ri). Jung Il Woo at least has the athletic requisites for the fighting set pieces and Kwon Yu Ri absolutely is putting as much energy in to playing Se Ra as possible. And probably neither of these two are legit lead material. But the "probably" is an important qualifier because neither character gives these actors much to bring to life. What would make Sun Woo more interesting is if he was able to engage in his schtick of operating in disguise undercover. But after about three episodes, this habit only makes rare appearances. And the interesting trait for Se Ra is her supervision, but once Sun Woo finds out it drains her of her energy, she is forbidden to use it. Awesome idea to create these special skills for the two lead characters and then have them NOT USE THEM for vast stretches of the show.

Although the two lead characters are barely more than one dimensional cardboard cutouts, they're inifinitely more exotic and interesting than the villain of "Good Job". Not only does the writing team of Kim Jung Ae and Kwon Hee Kyung hit every element of Villain Writing Malpractice, they manage to discover entirely novel forms of malfeasance. The bad guy is revealed too late. Before he is revealed, his nefarious deeds are so far in the background that they barely register. After he is revealed, attempts to make him seem either crazy or evil are ineffectual. Neither his motive nor his goals make any sense. He has a nickname but it's so ridiculous that the production avoids any mention of it until near the climactic showdown where the thing that gives rise to the nickname does absolutely nothing. Upon being finally revealed, of course, he makes an attempt to bring down Sun Woo. This sequence of dreck features a blindfolded damsel in distress (shocking, right?), a monologue (no one on this team has seen "The Incredibles" apparently) and the villain inexplicably squandering the advantage he went cross country to create so that he can engage in a altogether ordinary fistfight with Sun Woo.

Good job? More like "Needs to Try a Lot Harder Next Time Job". Not recommended.

Highly recommended for a cute but tense drama.

I really enjoyed watching this. I was super excited for a yuri x ilwoo reunion after bossam.
Acting (Kwon yuri and jung ilwoo SERVING. I also liked the actor playing ktj and think he's underrated.)
Comedy wasn't that bad, and I had a chuckle every now and then.
I'm glad the romance wasn't too heavy (even if it was a bit cringe sometimes), because none of the leads changed personalities from the start. Both were seen as kind of introverted but confident at their job (?). I think if the romance had been heavier, it wouldn't have been as natural. I'm glad things took time.
Plot wise it was a bit cliché, but nevertheless it was worth 12 hours of my life. I found the villain reveal to be unpredictable. Because if you told me abxy was the villain in the first half, I would've been shocked.

BONUS: I loved the bromance (was it enough for bromance? Idk) in the end. It was subtle, but enough.
Good Job to Good Job!

Good Job that’s over…

Full of the usual inconsistent characters, ridiculous plots and incredible coincidences. What do I mean by that? Well characters that are action heroes one minute and goofballs the next; plots that require people to do things which in real life simply would not/could not happen and are so incredulous that it is impossible to suspend disbelief; coincidences that require huge manipulation of motive or span 20 years etc. And what’s with the fantasy element that never went anywhere but hung around like a fart.

Having said that, these things are par for the romcom course and I found this one better than usual for the first two episodes. The comedy was not too cringeworthy, the characters were not too annoying and there was a lot of fun to be had. But then, starting with episode three, everything got explained to within an inch of its life, the script became unbelievably clunky, it morphed identity into a hilarious (in all the wrong ways) melo-mystery and just went downhill from there.

Clunky like it’s a story being told by an eight year-old—and then the man goes… and then she does… and then they… oh yes, I forgot, before that, he said… Yes you get the basic story but all the subtlety is lost in translation. It feels just like: we’ve got this plot worked out and now all we need to do is move the characters around and give them some explainy lines. That’ll work…

I don’t think either set of romance couples did it any favours either. Their collective chemistry was about as exciting as a study in inert gases; definitely no fizzing potassium or sparkling magnesium anywhere in the vicinity. In fact the whole thing was an organic chemistry demonstration on the various properties of wooden.

Yep, I’m not really a fan of Korean romantic comedy, especially when it has an identity crisis and thinks it’s a crime melodrama, but somehow I keep coming back to them. (There’s a real shortage of good dramas at the moment.) This is the worst one I’ve actually completed but just because it was only 12 episodes and the last two were really hard going. I keep hoping that they will be better than they are. I live in hope but I’m not sure how long I can hold out.

Off to another genre—

What my rating means: 1 - 3+ Totally unbearable, but often compulsively watchable as you really can’t believe that it can be this bad.

The show was a 'good' job…not a great one, but not a terrible one, either.

Using my personal rating system of "loved," "liked," "meh," & "nah," this was a “liked” borderline “meh” but said with a very cheerful tone and shrug. :D

What I liked:
I liked the idea of a CEO of a large corporation who is in reality a private detective and has this whole secret base thing. Kind of a real-life super hero concept.
The couples were cute. I liked the gradual progression of FL/ML relationship. They had a reasonably positive relationship for dramaland. Nor did the show seem to get less interesting once they did get together—which some shows seem to fall apart after the mains finally get together.
Jung Il Woo is good at both drama and comedy but in reality, all the mains did well in my opinion. Hong Woo Jin did a good job of playing two personalities—the obedient, silent assistant and the real, crazy, violent creature underneath.

What I did not like as much:
Seriously, if you have a secret base why not have LOCKS!? Some fingerprint readers? Retinal scanners!? Or even just a good ole padlock somewhere!? If he could afford to build the darn thing, he could have afforded some better security. That was just lazy writing, allowing people to constantly discover the secret lair.
I thought this idea was good, but they could have taken it so much further. There’s all the fun dressing up and playing different roles in the first couple of episodes and then it just stops.
I did not buy Kang Tae Joon’s sudden change of heart. He was a borderline sociopath with some clear self-control issues and a disturbing tendency of violence towards women. Suddenly he finds out he’s a dad and now he’s all remorseful? He actually tried to have the ML killed but his own dad turning out to be a killer was the turning point for him!? Yeah….no.
The ending took a little to long to wrap itself up, but I wasn’t mad about it. But they never really explained why ML’s mom died? Or did I miss that?

In conclusion, there are definitely flaws and places where it could have been so much better. But it was cute, it was interesting, it was not a waste of time.

Random question:
Are there really personal assistants out there that apparently never sleep, eat, or need to use the bathroom? That are on call 24/7, fully dressed, coiffed, and showered without actually ever needing time to dress and shower!? Much less work out to keep up their amazing martial arts skills… And with fully charged phones at all times?

Fun Watch!!

I liked Good Job!! It was fun and I loved seeing the leads together again :)

Story: From the beginning you already know not to take this show too seriously. A lot of illogical things happen but I expected it. It's supposed to be an over the top comedy mystery. For that, it was good! Unfortunately, I feel like the last 3 episodes had sloppier writing and were pretty rushed. It was like they were trying to fit so much in the last few episodes which made some of the editing weird and jumpy. I just wish they had spread out some of the plots but I still enjoyed it.

Acting: The acting was good! Like I said above, the show is meant to be over the top and nonsensical if you will so all the acting fit. The chemistry between the leads was good too, just like in Bossam. I can't help but to feel like they could have done more with their chemistry though. Their relationship felt super rushed at the end :( They went from slowwww burn to deeply in love in a matter of minutes I feel like.

Music: I really liked the music :) Savior by Baekho and One More Day by Summer Cake were my favorites

Overall I think it's worth the watch if you're looking for a lighter show to watch. Just know it's meant to be pretty silly lol.

Happy watching!

Not much content in the story till the end

When I first started watching, I really enjoyed the show. Finally a couple that was more mature and not acting silly. Then they introduced the second couple who started acting like children. Can't stand them together. Also there doesn't seem much to the story. No progress episode to episode means they have left everything for the last or last 2 episodes.

To be honest, I don't really care much for the main couple's slow burn romance either. I do like all the cast members as individuals. However, the romance is not depicted well. Only the last few episodes of their romance was decent.

Another frustrating aspect was that the detective brother keeps preventing the female lead from remembering anything or doing anything. Nor does he do anything. I didn't understand why. The female detective is so underutilised.

I'm glad this is only 12 episodes long but perhaps the story could have been wound up in 6 - 8. After the first 4 episodes, it would be better to just skip to episode 10. Story picks up from there and gets a bit interesting.

The drama is okay for a one time watch.

Interesting watch

This is an interesting light-hearted series - the interactions & dynamics between the leads & their friends are fun. From the second/third episode onwards the leads start a working relationship leading to a romantic one, towards the end of the drama (so actual romantic scenes were a bit less). The leads had a healthy relationship without melodrama, throughout. The second leads too had a cute story. I like the fact that there was no love triangle, sometimes its exasperating these love triangles, thankfully this one didn't have one. The story has a 20 yr murder mystery angle to it, with a bit of a twist. It's a great watch.

Great Fun on "Good Job"

I love both Jung Il Woo and Kwon Yu Ri as actors, and I enjoy seeing them together again. I love the entire cast and have enjoyed all of their acting skills. I would have liked a few more episodes, maybe 16, and more depth. However, it is perfect for something short and light.
I am on episode ten and looking forward to finishing watching "Good Job."

I loved how they played their roles and i loved their acting.
Normally i often stop watching a drama because its not interesting anymore but i liked to finish this show.
Especially the first two episodes i fell in love with the male lead, he was stunning an funny..
Some reviews said the story is messy, but for me it was okay.

Generally an okey series.

So honestly at the begining I was more interested in it than now that I have watched it completely and I am writing a review.
It is one of those series that I can't say It was bad and It didn't have any special story but also I can't say It was so good and it's surely a must watch.

It's about a man who is tryna find the truth about his mom's death and you know when you watch mystery this is something usual that I think all the series with the same genre follows. What makes them worth watching is how this story goes and how things are unpredictable and about Good Job, It wasn't thrilling at all. at least for me. But It was unpredictable and I myself couldn't guess that who the real killer was but my problem is that even though I couldn't guess, I wasn't shocked when I found out about it at all ! I mean like you always expect somebody to be the killer who is an important person and has a big role and you finally have this feeling like he/she has cheated on you and I didn't have that feeling and I don't you this is a good point or bad point :)

The romantic stroy was a cliche but I liked it. I mean cliche is not always a bad thing and here in this series I liked the first couple so much !
It's all about Yuri and Il woo. You might have watched the series "Bossam steal the fate" which had the same couple. I mean Yuri and Il woo and after these years these two are so close now and they are each other's best friend and that's why I really loved the first couple cause It felt real. I could believe it.

OSTs were so good. I really liked them and I have even listened to them again after they officially came out and I totally enjoyed.

There is kinda a 4 member squad and they always have a plan B. their relationship was funny and I liked the comedy of the series.

Overall, I can say It's a serues that is worth watching for only once and you might have some fun while watching and enjoy Il woo - Yuri beautiful romance and yeah. It's an okey series.
