So wholesome and fun, while also dealing with deep issues
I finished this drama very quickly, with its short episode lengths it's a great drama to watch when you're in the mood for a good quick show. I loved the chemistry and dynamic of the main couple, we have the young lead who fell first, and the older lead who ends up falling harder. Nose ends up understanding that age doesn't restrict one's ability to let loose and have fun. Together the couple try new things and Nose discovers that, despite aging, he can always have a youthful heart. Togawa is perfect as the younger lead because he sees everything in Nose, that initially Nose doesn't see, it's a type of love where they appreciate the little things in each other that most people don't notice about them. Was this review helpful to you?
A Great BL With Mature Characters
This was an enjoyable bl with more mature characters. The tone was very sweet and refreshing. It was nice to see characters in their 30s convey the feelings of finding love when you’re not so young but you’ve experienced a little more of life and feeling a bit lost and unfulfilled. The dialogue is one of its strongest points. It frames the story so well. Also, the scene where the younger makes a move on the older is filled with so much tension and release. This series makes you feel giddy like a teenager even though the leads are not in their teens. Was this review helpful to you?
Pefectly formed realistic short drama
I love the short format, and hate the fillers of lingering shots that go on forever but are just padding out telly schedules. This is really a simple story about real love and growth, and how trying something new, even if it is only a new cake, can lead to life changes. It's beautifully shot, acted, and believable, such a treat to like both characters, so you want to meet them in real life proper adult emotions not acting like teenagers.
Almost a ten, if I was being greedy I would have loved to have seen their first proper disagreement,
Just can not my head around being considered old at forty, when some people are very set in their ways and resistant to change at thirty.

An autumn romance
You know when the seasons change from summer to fall, the air is crisp, and the color of the leaves on the trees are just about to change? It's perfect but fleeting. Well that's what this drama reminds me of. It's very cozy like a cup of coffee in your favorite cafe on a perfect autumn day..from the music, to the sephia tones, close up/long shots, smart wardrobe, and it's overall classy mature aesthetic. This drama is visually a masterpiece, a work of art.The writing is equally as impressive. In the brief time alloted, the male leads love story is told. And what a romantic beautiful story it is.
Old fashion cupcake never feels rushed and somehow takes it's time with development. The acting is some of the best I've seen in a drama. Both leads had such amazing chemistry. The tension, the emotion, and flirtation between the two felt believable and real from start to finish. I loved everything about this drama and give it a solid 10/10.

Are you ready to love somebody? Well, you will definitely love this couple!
I was contemplating at first about checking this series since I don't like short series at all. However, one night, when I ran out of Japanese BLs to watch, I decided to try checking it out and man, I've never giggled and screamed like this. Well, it is just an office romance, but I enjoyed every minute of it. If you want to watch something fresh, cute, sweet, or maybe you just want to scream because of how cute the characters are, this series is for you! It took me a week to get over with them, lmao. Please where's the season 2?!?!?!Was this review helpful to you?
Age is but a number
Japan, back at it again with their calm, feel good, healing dramas. The thing I enjoyed about this drama the most is the tone - it's very warm, light, relaxing and playful. Your mood is constantly just positive throughout the drama.
We are first introduced to the leads as co-workers, then co-workers helping each other out, friends, and finally lovers. The progression was so perfectly well done considering the short duration of the episodes and length of the series.
Togawa's respect towards Nozue and his one-sided love for him was a sight to behold and Nozue's oblivious(?)/playful flirting with Togawa was so entertaining. First and foremost, I loved the characters' banter. Their dialogue felt so realistic/non cringe-worthy, there was an actual flow to their conversations that made all their interactions appear natural. They joke with each other so naturally and bounce off of eo so seamlessly that you quickly forget they're actually just boss and subordinate. They're the kind of on-screen couple that you don't just ship because they look good together but you ship because they actually fit and you can imagine them being 80 years old together still loving and respecting and learning from one another, you know? There was just such a fresh breath of natural realism between this couple that amplified the romance aspect even more for me. So every moment I spent watching their relationship progress was truly an enjoyable experience.
My only small complaint is I wish we had more intimate scenes of them together when they finally became a couple (hehe) but I know that wasn't the point of the drama so it definitely didn’t take away from my experience watching the show.
Overall, if you're looking for something really light, low-angst, playful, sweet and romantic then definitely give this a shot!

In Indonesian:
Benar-benar membuatku sakit hati rasanya. Kenapa series-series bagus hanya memiliki durasi yang amat pendek :(

Let's make the best manga adaptation this year
Story : Liking this story or not depends on your preferences and it's okay that some people are not comfortable with a 10 years old gap but ME? I LOVED ITThe whole story is fluff with 5% drama, it's just the two main leads and the other world as just cannon fodders
.
Storytelling: The script is so good, they can extract holy water from the script and sprinkle it on other dramas so they could be this wholesome... joking aside, the characters are well-portrayed, new informations were delivered beautifully and it attracts the audience till the end, they try their best to deliver every thing through picture or dialogues (yeah, goodbye to useless monologues, as we know how some lazy screenwriters/directors love it)
.
The directing is good for a tv drama, I can't ask more than this (atleast for now)....
The cast choice (similarity to its original manga) is excellent and the acting is way better than your average bl drama cast....
.
Overall : Everything good
You can easily come back to this drama if you ever crave for something sweet ?

The cupcake was good, but it was a bit to sweet for my taste
Sorry if anything is spelled wrong! English is not my first language. Here is my review
Story- I loved the story! It was short, simple, and super cute. When we first got introduced to the story and the Characters it seemed a little boring, but after we got introduced to Togawa I loved it!
(Love Love Loveee Togawa btw)
Now, the series is not that long and for a short story, the plot line was amazing. I only have one thing that I got a little bumped about and that was the romance.
Now there is romance in this series, don't get me wrong, but for me, it was not enough.
(I am a fan of spicy Bl`s and I am not the biggest fan of the wholesome ones so keep that in mind)
I was hyped up about ep.4. the whole reason I started watching this series was that I saw a TikTok with the scene in ep4.
When i got to the scene it was amazing, but what ended up happening was that I got my expectations too high for the last episode. Because the seen in ep.4 was so spicy I hoped for a sex scene sines that did not happen in ep.4, but to my sadly surprise the ep 4 kiss was the last kiss :(
Music- Loved the music (i have nothing more to say lol)
Acting- Amazing acting and a plus in the book since the actors were kind of hot.
In my opinion, I recommend this series to others! but keep in mind that if you personally like. spicy BLs then be prepared to be a little disappointed.

Sweet and Mature
OFC focuses on older men, which is a change for a lot of dramas I've seen. Nozue is melancholic about life but Togawa's gentle insistence on doing things to make him feel younger balances him out. I don't remember any of the music, so it's not ending up on my playlists, but the acting was well done and the story is sweet. Their relationship is lovely and it builds up so nicely.Drawbacks: sometimes the show feels slow because it's very slice of life, so if you want something more upbeat or faster, it's not this show.
There's a major scene where the lighting makes Nozue look so much older and I wish someone would have noticed and fixed it before it made it into final edits.

A Perfectly Crafted 2 Hour Masterpiece of Joy. Do Not Miss
"Old Fashion Cupcake" stands as one of Japan's finest live-action dramas in recent years, deserving global recognition as a future classic. There are a thousand moments that will make you smile.Every aspect of the show - direction, cinematography, musical score and screenwriting - has been carefully considered by a cohesive team to create a series with zero waste and maximum impact.
The premise revolves around finding happiness and joy in life, when a 29 year old office worker Togawa, convinces his jaded nearly 40-year-old boss Nozue to heed his own advice, to embrace the present moment and let go of regret.
Tatsunari Kimura, a veteran stage actor at just 28 when this was filmed in 2022, highlights why he is one of THE actors of his generation, who uses minimal blocking (physical movement) and dialogue to conveys incredible depth, intense emotion and outstanding vulnerability. He also acts with his eyes, a rare skill in young actors. Unfortunately for millions of viewers, he works primarily in stage theatre and rarely does tv work. We hope he will reconsider for an excellent role. Satoh Takeru, please team up and find the perfect opportunity to foster this incredible talent!
Kouhei Takeda, as Nozue, is sublime as he struggles to disguise his Honnae aka true feelings, with minimal facial movement. That's expert skill. His beautiful portrayal of the lonely 39 year old hits home sharply, a man who thinks he can stay in a position of safety, but in reality he is in danger of letting life pass by. We are uplifted by his efforts not to drown in apathy and to seek adventure and embrace joy once again.
Here, a special mention is made of "Morning Dub For N", a beautiful heartbeat instrumental piece by Daisuke Nisihimura (Dunk) that resembles the traditional Japanese koto instrument, to evoke emotions in key scenes - particularly the opening sequence where Nozue contemplates his boring safe life. We also absolutely LOVED the joyous opening tune, Blue Blur, an uplifting bilingual R&B theme song with retro elements by Ryu Matsuyma featuring Mabuana. The entire score and soundtrack are perfectly positioned throughout the series and substantially enhance moving moments, and the entire viewing experience.
Viewers may feel lost when it is over. Should there be a Season 2? After careful deliberation: No. There is nothing left to add or remove. The art is perfect, as is.
Don't Miss It. You Won't Regret.
