Just as good as the series!!

The movie/series: Both had a great storyline and script. The cast was great and did a great job with their characters. The cinematograph and graphics were awesome.

The movie: Overall, they did a great job editing the series into a cohesive movie version. There are a few scenes that were edited differently (same footage put in a different order) and some scene placements were changed. There were also a few scenes deleted or cut short, I’m assuming due to timing purposes. There was one scene that was cut short that I wished they kept completely in. However, all of the changes did not impact the quality of the series in anyway. I enjoyed the added bloopers and behind the scenes footage at the end of the movie.

Before I continue, it’s important to know an individual’s definition of added scenes. My definition is when the director adds scenes that were deleted due to timing restraints or when additional scenes was film after the original production has ended to add more meaning. A good example of this is “Life-Love on the Line”. Because of this, I do not count the bloopers and behind the scenes footage seen after the movie. I did not notice any added scenes the first time watching the movie. However, I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss anything and watched the series and movie at the same time (split screen). What can I say, I wanted to be thorough. I only saw two added scenes almost 2 hours into the movie. The truth is it really does not matter if you notice the additional scenes or not because they don’t really add anything to the movie. Don’t worry about it and just enjoy the movie. Yes, it's almost 3 hours long but it's worth it.

Random Notes:

I personally preferred the English subtitles for the series over the ones in the movie.

Fewer semantic errors as words really do matter

For those who haven't seen the series it's a KBL, enemies to lovers trope as one student is unable to graduate when the other doesn't put his name on a group project. He seeks revenge and ...

I wasn't expecting much from the movie as I'd watched the drama repeatedly but it surpassed expectations. I have to say that, similarly to 'We Best Love' Special Edition, the translation of the dialogues, additional dialogue and the slight changes made a real difference to the flow of the movie and our understanding of both the main and side characters. You actually see how they become their ending more acutely than in the drama. Translations and words really do matter! I think the series suffered from week to week translations so some weren't as accurate but to be fair to the viki volunteers, this also did have more dialogue.

There are a few new moments (I'd hardly call them scenes) as well to give the movie richness

It isn't quite the same as Life: Love on the life (Directors Cut) which had an additional scene from the Manga but as the manhwa for Semantic Error is still ongoing they haven't given us any closure which is great. we are all dying for a second season

Well worth the nearly 3 hours of watching this. Highly recommended

Nice but boring if you just watched the drama.

Once I watched the drama, this was kinda boring. I think it would be fine if it's been a while since you watched the movie. I was just finished with the drama and wanted more from the couple, and someone mentioned there were extra scenes in the movie. So I watched it within mins of ending the drama.

If I had not seen the drama or if I had watched the drama a month or so ago, I think it would have been fine. The movie is said to be a condensed version. But it didn't feel like there was anything cut off except maybe the sound effects before the drama episode ends that sounded like electricity. I really like that part because it was almost always on a scene where there are looking at each out and sparks are flying, so it felt perfect. The movie did not have that. Also, people online had mentioned that there would be extra scenes in the movie, but from what I found there was only 1 extra scene. So for someone who has watched the drama, it would be repetitive, but it won't be bad as a movie for someone who has not seen the drama.

It is pretty much the drama condensed into an over 2 hr movie. But I think it may be too long. As a movie in today's world people may find it long. But as someone who has grown up with Indian movies, it is just the right length.

So far mostly this review was about how it compares to the drama, But as a movie itself, it is a simple story with great chemistry from the leads. Park Seo Ham was great in this drama. He was oozing charisma and charm. They may have overdone his entry scenes (yes there was more than 1 and it was definitely fan-service) but it was drool-worthy. I can't wait for more of his stuff when he is done with military service. Park Jae chan was cute in his role as Sungwoo. I loved the push-and-pull relationship. I wish someone makes a sequel for this couple. I want more of them, while still maintaining their core personalities.

A masterpiece

I watched Semantic Error for the first time several months ago, so I can't really tell you what are the differences between the series and the film - all I know is that they're very small differences, with no major changes. In case you haven't watched either and you're indecisive, I'd recommend picking the film if you have the time to watch the whole thing in one go (it's about 3 hours long). I feel like watching the film let me enjoy and understand all the scenes to the smallest details a lot better than the series.

I really wanted to write a review for Semantic Error, since in my opinion it's one of the best Korean dramas out there - yeah, dramas, not BLs. I rarely, if ever, use words like "masterpiece" to define anything, even when I really like it, but this time around I believe it's deserved, since Semantic Error has NO FLAWS.
- The story is a very well-made enemies-to-lovers romance. The two protagonists don't start off hating each other in a way that makes their romance seem impossible, but their mutual dislike also has solid foundations that makes it believable. The various events of the story all have the right time they need to be shown, and the pacing is immaculate too: at no point did I think that a certain part should have lasted longer, or that some events happened too fast or not fast enough.
- The characters are all great. The two main actors are very good and expressive, their chemistry is wonderful, and their character development is a delight to watch. The secondary and support characters are also well placed and well utilised, with a special mention for Jae Young's group of friends (looking so comfortable and at ease with each other like real friends is not easy) and Ryu Ji Hye (she had a hard character to portray and she did it so beautifully that she stood out to me a lot).
- The camera work and the small details here and there make the whole show much more charged of meaning and enjoyable. The symbolisms of Jae Young and Sang Woo's character development are powerful and enrich every scene even more, to the point that every moment of the story feels important and memorable. The music and the effects also played a huge role in this.
- As I watched the film and saw everything for the second time, instead of feeling bored or uninterested for watching the same things for the second time, I was surprised at how I took everything in and let it sink deeper. The more I watched, the more vivid the story felt. I loved it.

This is highly recommended for anyone who likes romance, be it BL or not, because it's just too good to miss. It's fun, it's enjoyable, it's romantic, it's sentimental, and it's just so well made. I feel like the entire production team put a lot of effort and care in this project and it shows. You can watch it as a series or as a film, just WATCH IT.

I watched the series and the movie version side-by-side. Apart from one scene that's not in the series and some minor editing changes, they are identical.
So, if you want to choose, I think the movie is a bit too long to watch it in one sitting (it's easier to find your place again in a series). Forthe series, I found the flashing light and the electric noise at the start of each episode grating, especially when I have a headache.

Things I liked:
* To do an "enemy-to-lovers-trope" is not easy. You can easily draw things out too long or have a power imbalance -- if the relationship reads more as "bullying" than as "mutual antagonism" it's really hard for me to understand how they would ever end up as lovers. (Looking at you, Make Our Days Count) But here, it ends relatively early, both give as good as they get -- and especially Jang Jae Young as the first instigator backs off when he realizes that he's crossed the line.
* I also loved Chu Sang Woo's character, which reads as somewhere on the autism spectrum for me. It's done better that in the original material, imo.
* The supporting characters were great in rounding out the story.

Things I did not like:
* I think I'd have liked to see the discussion about excavators and the subsequent drawing of one on Chu Sangwoo's arm (rather than the ugly veggie thing).

Overall, the pacing was good, and even if the general storyline was predictable (which is par for the course in romance dramas), the journey of both protagonists was lovely to follow.

Beautiful.

I didn't expect to cry as much as I did watching this. I watched it way after the hype and never truly knew why it was so hyped up as I didn't enjoy the webtoon from what I read before dropping it. I enjoyed both of the leads and think they did amazing portraying their characters. There is a kiss when one character is sleeping which isn't confronted later which made me slightly uncomfortable and would feel wrong to not bring up on how it made me feel. However I truly could feel the natural chemistry between the two even during their "enemies" stage and found the bickering very cute.
