underwhelming and still (!!) unsatisfying

i originally wrote this review as i watched episode 3, and i talked about how i couldn't get past the way they divided in two seasons what should've been one. season two had really bad pacing and as a lot of people pointed out, they introduced a lot of new unnecessary characters that i mostly didn't care about just to kill them this season...i do feel like the storyline was kinda coherent and it wasn't as bad as season 2 but i don't know if i could say i enjoyed it.

what got me to write this review watching episode 3 was how annoying they were with all the flashbacks that were so recurrent that when they were actually necessary and could make some impact on a scene i was just thinking "another one?".. it was annoying to me from the beginning but the church scene where they do a flashback for something that happened 1 minute and 20 seconds before ON THE SAME SCENE was just??? why didn't they just write that scene in a way it wouldn't be necessary or just not do it at all???? ik it was like only 2s but it seriously annoyed me. and it happened again and again in later episodes. felt like bad writing for me, specially since sweet home isn't the first show ever to use flashbacks to help the audience keep something in mind. also they kept using it for callbacks to previous seasons and episodes in ways that other shows usually don't do explicitly and rather let the audience/fandoms recall by themselves.. unnecessary.

i do understand why they made the older brother emotionless since eunhyu was searching for him for so long and kept going because of him even tho he was supposed to be dead, so it felt unsatisfying as a reunion but realistic (and miserable) because he's no longer a human and he's not like hyunsu either. what i don't get was the whole monster taking over hyunsu and the bet, it felt like it would lead to a internal battle or something similar but it was just hyunsu suddenly having a different personality and blue eyes, and it did make him fight in a way he normally wouldn't but... when it ends is just that. i felt like it could've being somewhat more dramatic idk

talking about drama i felt throughout the entire eight episodes that they relied way too much on the soundtrack to set the tone of the scenes, wich would've been fine, but for me it was so overdone to the point of breaking the immersion.

someone else pointed it all and i know this is not a romance drama but why was there absolutely no romantic moment, dialogue, ANYTHING between hyunsu and eunhyu this season when they mentioned a few times about how they were each other's first love and that was even the reason why hyunsu's monster-self couldn't hurt her... I just few like there was so much waisted time with other storylines (and flashbacks) that could've left space for something like that.. like the priest and the crazy woman. i remember reading a review on the previous season about how they threw a religious man in the story once again after killing the first one and expected us to just accept it and like him and when they got away together on the last episode it just felt like a way of making it up for the first 'priest' guy, jisoo and yuri not making it. and it wasn't satisfying at all for me, it was just a rushed flashback with a story of them both that wasn't even touched upon aside from her looking at him from a distance and randomly confessing later to make things awkward. it didn't even explain anything so i don't really see the point.

i don't even want to talk about yikyeong and her daughter, one of the things i hated the most about season two was their storyline being thrown on it and completely forgotten for a few episodes just to later get into it and give us barely two flashbacks and call it a day. this season they just killed her again (and i still don't know how to feel about it), made her face her crazy ass husband and show the girl's capabilities just to downplay her later? THE GIRL MADE A HUGE ASS MONSTER SHOW UP JUST TO MAKE DADDY PROUD AND WHEN IT CAME TO A REAL BATTLE SHE (actually him but ykwim) SUMMONED A FEW HUMAN SHAPED MONSTERS TO HELP HER??? that man saw what the girl could do and that's his best????? i don't get it. maybe they ran out of money for CGI or just didn't want to deal with big monsters but then why show a big one like that when they could've just used a random one we've seen before? also we were all made to believe she died then we have a scene of her struggling as daddy dies and then what. hey look at my happily ever after! no explanation, no 10 seconds long scene just to give a little context for her being alive. nothing.

anyway i refuse to talk about sangwook because i hate that actor and i really don't care about the original character or the one that possessed him. i know he's the main antagonist but i didn't even had it in me to be angry or wish his death, i just wish lee jinwook wasn't part of the cast at all.

the doctor was annoying and i think he was way past his death scene, it wasn't really satisfying at all for me because of who killed him.

the military guys, just... didn't care about them last season, didn't care about them on this one.

the trailer ahjussi was kinda heartbreaking because i liked their duo and it was sad that hani was so fond of him that she couldn't bring herself to kill him, even tho he killed her parents. i did actually care about them.

i think there's pretty much it, this season wasn't as infuriating and unsatisfying as season two but wasn't nearly as good as season one either. i wouldn't say it was a enjoyable experience for me since most of the time i asked myself what i was watching and wanted to skip some scenes but i finished because i had to know how it ended. definitely won't be recommending sweet home anymore and i don't think I'll ever watch it again.

amazing cast (mostly) tho!

Dying wasn't even an option, they weren't afraid of dying, they were afraid of being abandoned

This story was very unique. I will not make very long review but the overall concept revolve around
1. Society was afraid to live in a new change.
2. People were afraid to be be abandoned and unloved

The reality was humans were afraid of being a monster. But they were also afraid of being alone. The sweet home family on the other hand understood very early that monsters can behave like humans if they can overcome their fears. Sadly it took forever for the whole world to actually understand this. At the end they embrace neo humans and avoid being monsters.

I really liked eun hyuk character like from the start he was trying to do the good things but everyone ultimately called him a heartless person. Even at the end he wanted to sacrifice himself instead of hyun su. I think it since all of them were young they were good at expressing themselves. And eun hyuk was caught up in all of this. Admit it or not it was his words who kept everyone alive.

Btw the bus scene really showed bl vibes like the fight, bickering but still sitting so close to each other.

Bad start/good ending

I barely finished the first session as it felt too heavy to watch taking me a whole week unlike this session that only took me one day
But to be fair it's not the greatest ending as they might rushed it a little bit and it's somehow happier and more peacefully then it's supposed to be for such a story but again it's alright.

Better than S2 but severely lacking depth.

This season is better than season two by far. There were no randomly new characters showing up, we got some answers, and we got characters meeting back up or banding together in different forms.

However, this season (and season 2 too) is severely lacking in depth, development, and plot.
This season, especially the last 2-3 episodes, was rushed immensely. There is no time for our characters to actually interact in a way that feels genuine - we're literally given a minute to just be on board with Cha Hyun-su, Lee Eun-hyeok, and Lee Eun-Yu finally meeting again, Hyun-Su and Eun-Hyeok fighting for a minute, and then suddenly accepting to go somewhere together! We deserved a whole episode of this just by itself! I was so hyped to see the emotions and the explanations for them all meeting again, but it's literally done in about 3 minutes in the show and the show expects us to just accept it and move on because they split up again pretty quickly too! This show absolutely wasted and ruined the moment it could've been -, also there is no time taken to explain or deepen the lore or answer questions, there is no time spent on building up to some of the big moments of this season (Yi-kyung, final baddie fight, remeeting with a character from season one, the actual ending!).

This show needs at least 16 more one long episodes so our characters, the world, the story, and the lore actually has enough time to breathe on screen, to develop in a realistic manner, and to actually give us a satisfactory story.

The best part of this show is the acting! I cannot flaw one single actor in this. All of them did an amazing job with their scenes, with each other, and their parts. It's just such a shame that the story and the script was not enough to really let them show everything they have.

WE ARE ALL OUR OWN MONSTERS

This drama has a lot of going on but there was nothing really happening, There was no beginning for each characters , they were just happened to be at the apartment at first and then suddenly some characters came until this last season I guess, then the crazy scientist came and then later a crazier scientist came as seems the villain at this drama and then Cha Hyun Su , someone who was able to control himself from being monster and then at the end they became one, and good looking soldiers getting killed by a monsters that seems like cars that transformed into human shape HAHAH , and then at the end there was this Neo Human , human or monsters with no emotions but has a memories .. I did not know if Hyun su was able to retrieve back everyone at the end their human .. maybe not
What I did understand behind about this drama is my review title itself .. the drama has shown that one when not able to control their desires becomes monster and live in a dream inside .. same as in reality .. we are all monsters who has desires when we are not able to control them , sometimes we become cruel , example when someone who's world is money sometimes they kill, sometimes they deceive others, they rob , they confront and worst they hurt themselves to get what they want .. For some reasons I think the reason why I was able to finish this one is the visual and props production, the action parts the actors too I guess .. butnot gonna rewatch this one .. worth watching ? nahh.

Almost home Sweet Home

Season 2 made the huge blunder that The Walking Dead did by splitting off a whole group of characters that miraculously have great chemistry together and added tons of new characters with much less interesting storylines instead of further developing the characters that had on going potential from season 1. When the season 2 characters and storylines were eliminated throughout season 3, it was a relief really. It's just that doing so took up all the screen time when they should have used at least left half the episodes to properly conclude the stories of the Sweet Home OGs.

It was absolutely fantastic to finally see Hyun Su, Eun Yu, Eun Hyeok back together. It's a such a bummer that the rest of the Sweet Home OGs like Yi Kyung and Jin Ok get killed off, especially the latter in the most unceremonious way. All of the OG crew were the heart of the show and deserved to get the screen time back together. I really enjoyed the storyline of Hyun Su's alternate personality. He's so funny getting a whole haircut and new outfit. Even though he wants to be intimidating and ruthless, he's weak for Eun Yu, because Cha Hyun Su at heart is.

It would have been amazing to also see the journey of neohuman Eun Hyeok finding his love for his precious sister again, his friendship with Hyun Su. Eun Yu's monsterization process and subsequent relearning of her feelings as well as neohuman, the community they build into the new Sweet Home, and Hyun Su and Eun Yu finally acknowledging their feelings for each other. Even Yi Kyung's kid's next form. There is so much left that it could have been a season 4. They didn't even have enough time for a proper montage and just had image stills instead and the three on the roof top. The show deserved at least two more episodes like the first season to explore a bit more before closing out.

Nonetheless a great trilogy...

Season 3 perfectly wraps up the series.

Though I have 3 concerns
First the stadium, once a sanctuary, becomes a chaotic battleground, which is gripping but sometimes feels inconsistent.
Second, Eun Hyeok's transformation from the cocoon is a standout moment, though it raises questions for neohuman stuffs that aren't fully answered.
Last is the girl with the power to turn humans into monsters feels underutilized and somewhat irrelevant to the overall plot, leaving a sense that her potential was wasted.

Well despite these issues, this season beautifully melds the action and character depth from Season 2 with the intense, iconic feel of Season 1. It’s a satisfying and emotional conclusion to a series that kept me hooked from start to finish.

Yup, this last season is better than the last season of Game of Thrones lol

PS
S1 > S3 > S2

and I will rewatch it all again.

If you can, just pretend this drama only had one season, I wish I had...

While S3 wasn't the same complete waste of space S2 was, it just felt like a total waste of potential. The plot was exciting in theory but in practice it felt both too slow and too fast with pivotal scenes getting little screentime to instead focus on half-assed characters with less personality than a piece of cardboard.

Tell me why I was BEGGING for characters, even main characters, to die throughout the season so that we would have less people to focus on? Even the characters I liked ended up having their personalities scrapped by the end with no proof of character development for any of them.

The plot was right there, the actors were good, they had everything going for them but I guess they just bit off more than they could chew.

If you fall in love with this you can be consumed...Be careful ?

I think I'm consumed with the never-ending monsterization crisis.
I still haven't recovered from yesterday's bomb ❤️?‍?️
Season 3> We've got everything solved in the end but it seems like we've lost something during the endless search to resolve all the problems.

To understand this last season you must fully watch the previous 2 season before...(doing that you will get to know how the characters begun and end up here)

Hyun Su blue eye's(in the monsterization phase) were so cool, his flamed wing getting out of the acidic bus was a blow mind scene,
the hard work that he had to do, unmonsterizating others, was touching...)

I was hoping to get know more about the cocoon/neonhuman Eun yeok, but it seems like 8 episodes wasn't enough to explain all the things by details.

I thought that Eun yu, Yi su, Young Su transition would appear on the screen but ?...

But It was original, bombastic, comic, thrilling, and mesmerising for me to see how all the cast developed their characters in a way that were able to complete this master piece.
Well done ?????
My huge thanks for all the Production team, Directors,Graphic and visual artist, the cast...to everyone that worked hard, days and sleepless nights, to complete this 3 memorable and fantastic season of the serie "스위트 홈".

Could've been 6 episodes....

Idk if this is based off of a webtoon or manga, so maybe they were trying to stick to a certain story?

Season 1 was great. Great casting, acting and story. Little to no skips. Season 2 they gut the acting and replace some characters. Story was mid. Acting was average to above average. A lot of skips or watching with the speed at 2x.

Season 3. The 2 kids were the most entertaining and well written, probably by accident. Go Min Si and Lee Do Hyun were amazing. Song Kang with another robot performance. Every scene he was in whether he was angry, happy, sad or trying to be funny.....just a straight face almost like he was confused.

If you were expecting redemption from how bad season 2 was, you'll be disappointed. Only giving it a 7 because Go Min Si and Lee Do Hyun were that good.
