Under the neon light of a quiet street of Causeway Bay in Hong Kong, Director Tsai documented the city's ambience of the aftermath in 2019. The Night was inspired by the same-titled Chinese song from the 1940s. As Tsai hums during the filming, the lyrics of the song echoes: "The beautiful night is slipping away, I hate to see you go." Reviews
These are just a few minutes of frames from different places at night, put together into a 20-minute movie with the sounds of traffic in the background and a song at the end. I usually like to observe my surroundings when I'm outside so it wasn't boring for me. This film made me feel more at peace. Not burdened by anything.
Honestly, if you're looking for a deeper meaning in this film, you'll probably find it. It all depends on your imagination, what you expect from the movie at the moment and what is in your head.
