Good cast and amazing music/visuals
The Good:The choice of cast, the CGI, the costumes, and the music were all amazing.
The Bad:
It's a pretty run-of-the-mill story filled with sacrifices. The ML and female lead FL are constantly getting injured—sometimes even dying—only to be miraculously brought back to life just to keep the story moving. The plot relies heavily on misunderstandings and withholding of information, to the point where even a reasonably knowledgeable three-year-old would ask the right questions. However, according to the story, the leads conveniently avoid doing so, because apparently, it's "too soon." And let's not forget the fight scenes—they're lackluster, with nothing more than endless blood coughing to make them seem dramatic. The music was good, but it was way too overused, losing its impact over time.

MOONLIGHT MYSTIQUE THE WAY YOU ARE
moonlight mystique has aired its last episode today. what a fun ride.basically i don't like xianxia because of the cliche storyline, so my expectation for the drama was already low. my motivation to watch is only because there is chang huasen in it (that's my baby by the way), and even if there is chang huasen, if the plot is not to my taste then i will drop the drama no matter how much i like chang huasen.. this is a sign that i really don't like xianxia that much..
but, the interesting surprise that i received while watching MM is even though there are still some cliches but overall the entire plot is very satisfying.. of course what makes me keep watching is because there is no trope of "sacrificing oneself for the world" or "ridiculous and prolonged misunderstanding" or "main leads who are very easily fooled" so far the main leads (bai shou and fan yue) are very smart.. if there is a problem they will communicate it and immediately resolve the misunderstanding, no one is wishy washy and no one is easily fooled.. they are both very smart.
For the chemistry of the two couples, both between Bai Shou Fan Yue and Fu Ling Chong Zhao, they are very good.. I can feel their chemistry and get carried away with all the dynamics of love that they show... and as I expected, our second couple, Fuling and Chong Zhao, unfortunately did not succeed in getting HE (at least we got 1 kiss scene even though it was bittersweet) it's okay I expected it from the start and prepared my heart.. the cure is only our main couple ends happily (hooray 🥳) my heart is healed plus there is their wedding scene in the special episode ☺️ (ohh ps. Chang Huasen how many more times do you want to fail to get married in a costume drama 😬)
And of course, we give the biggest applause to our four main leads: Bai Lu, Ao Ruipeng, Dai Luwa, and Chang Huasen 👏 they managed to portray their characters perfectly and managed to make me carried away and cry many times.. special mention to Bai you who every time I see him cry I will also cry...
And finally to my beloved baby Chang Huasen, I am very proud of you. Through this drama you have proven again that you are always an excellent actor and continue to develop and not just walk in place.. all the scenes when you "break down" really make me carried away.. keep going
Ps. Lastly, I hope to see Chang Huasen and Dai Luwa play a costume drama again but this time as the main leads and main couple ☺️

Probably the Best Fantasy Drama of 2025!
It was easily the best drama of 2025 for me! The acting of all characters were on point..it couldn't have been more perfect. The storyline was epic and engaging. If you have ever watched "The love between fairy and devil" and loved it then you will love it too.The most important thing is the FMC was NOT DUMB. She used her brain in everything (which I personally like in dramas..well no one likes a dumb FMC..do we?). Oh, and the female characters together were on so good..I am still drooling over them.
I surely won't get over this drama for a long time!! Please Please go and watch it if you haven't already

Moonlight Mystique is a MUST watch drama
Bai Lu & Ao Ruipeng are excellent at portraying their characters. They are both the heart and soul of the drama. Bai Lu's eyes are very expressive and her changes in emotions are smooth and natural. Her crying scenes are beautifully done. Each one is different. Her voice suits the character very well. She dubbs her own voice and does a great job. Ao Ruipeng is a dark horse for sure. His aura, gaze, and acting is also on point. Both did their characters justice. The supporting cast also plays well in their roles, especially the characters Rong Xian & Ling Long & Mu Jiu, & Fu Ling. The drama gives the leads and supporting cast meaningful story lines. My favorite storylines belong to the main leads. Each of their hugs and kisses felt so meaningful and emotional. They both showed how to really love someone. Bai Lu & Ao Ruipeng have so much chemistry. I like the story of Rong Xian & Ling Long, too. I didn't care for Chong Zhao & Fu Ling's love story. I like their individual characters only. Even though there are side stories, they all tie in with the main story line. The main leads also have roles in lots of the side stories, which is really nice. There are no boring episodes. The story is paced very well. The cinematography and cgi are beautiful and well done. The emotional music is played at the right moments. The costumes, hairstyles, and make-up are nice. In summary, the cast is outstanding, the production/editing team is brilliant, and the story line is very good. I really enjoy this drama and will repeat it many times. THIS DRAMA WAS EVERYTHING!!! i've never cried so much and it was all so worth it! the actors and actresses all played their roles incredibly well !!my first time watching ao ruipeng and i love him - he is truly magical to watch

1Well-Paced and Acted with Strong characters and Healthy romances
Subjective Gut Rating: 8.75It was a pleasant surprise that I like “Moonlight Mystique” so much, as I came in without much expectations. Having seen “The Blossoming Love” and “Love of the Divine Tree” before this, I never would have thought “Moonlight Mystique” is my favorite out of the 3 (my MDL friends would not have agreed with me). Despite being in the same universe as “Ancient Love Poetry”, you can watch this drama as a standalone.
Story/Pacing
Compared to the other 2 dramas I listed above, I feel that “Moonlight Mystique” has the best pacing and execution of the intersecting plot lines.. I binged all 40 episodes in 3-4 days without losing focus or interest at all. With each arc, the stories highlight strong familial bonds and friendships between the characters. Each supporting character is also given ample time for viewers to get to know them as a person, and their backstories in relation to the overarching plot. All these stories make me cry! When “The Blossoming Love” tells the backstory of the main leads from 10,000 years ago, the execution is boring and draggy. In contrast, “Moonlight Mystique” was able to tell the ancient story from 60,000 years ago in a much more interesting and well-paced way. Moreover, I am a huge fan of fight scenes and I feel they are spread out throughout the drama to keep me interested. There are dramas where the fights all happened in the first half of the drama and then the second half is full of talking with no action. That’s why I was especially pleased to see these fight scenes evenly distributed.
Acting
Such solid acting from the 4 main leads and the supporting cast. I don’t think there’s anyone that I found to be outright awful.
- Ao Rui Peng: What a surprise! I have to say I was not confident in him at all in playing the demon lord based on his previous roles. But I was glad he proved me wrong! I don’t personally find him to be my kind of handsome, but I think he made me fall in love with his character, Fan Yue. Ao Rui Peng has big eyes, and I can see them switching from cold (but not mean) to stern (yet tender). His acting is on par with Bai Lu and they have good chemistry together.
-Bai Lu: Bai Lu is Bai Lu. You know what to expect from her and she delivers. Her role as Bai Shuo started out to be a spoiled little brat, but she grew to be a courageous, independent fighter. Watching her doing the wire work is amazing (both in the drama and the behind-the-scenes clips). Everything looks so effortlessly beautiful. She’s beautiful when she fights, and she’s beautiful when she cries.
- Dai Lu Wa: She was quite a scene stealer in the beginning as the little demon girl. I kinda miss her arrogant and badass personality in the latter half of the drama. In the earlier episodes, she’s just so much fun and you can’t help but follow her around the screen. Her emotional scenes are pretty good as well.
- Chang Hua Sen: His acting isn’t bad either, though might not be the weakest of the four. I was worried that his character will go a different direction and then I worry he might be typecast into certain roles.
Romance
- Bai Shuo + Fan Yue: I really enjoy their romance and how it was developed. The development feels natural and works with the plot. I am actually a little surprised that the feelings and they were a couple before ¾ of the drama. They are such a strong, mature and green couple. They understand each other, support each other even though they may not agree to the decision 100%. They serve as the objective listener and adviser when the other person is dealing with something personal. Their love is strong from beginning to the end with no misunderstanding but honest communication. It’s rare to see this in a xianxia drama.
- Fu Ling + Chong Zhao: I also really like this pair. Their story is very different from the main romance which provides viewers with something different and interesting. They have just enough screen time to make me feel invested without taking over too much time.
Other romance: Throughout the drama, there are several other romances within each arc. They are all beautiful and romantic, yet also heartbreaking. I can honestly say that as a hopeless romantic, I am quite satisfied with almost all the romances in “Moonlight Mystique” (maybe except how Fire Girl falls in love with Wolf boy).
Production Quality
First of all, there are so many different hairstyles, accessories and costumes for all the female leads. I don’t think I’ve seen Bai Lu in so many different outfits in a drama before. Each of the designs complement the location of the current storyline. Bai Lu and Dai Lu Wa look absolutely beautiful! Since this is a xianxia drama, there aren’t many fight scenes with actual martial arts. Most of them are done by CGI and green screens. I absolutely love the purple flowers by Fu Ling (and reminds me of my favorite purple in Ancient Love Poetry). But the special effects and green screen/cinematography could be a hit-or-miss as well. There are times when the scenes seem too fake and computer-generated. But other times, they are colorful and beautiful. On the other hand, unfortunately most of the actors are dubbed except for Bai Lu (that’s why she’s the queen!). The actors sounded fine to me in the BTS clips, and unfortunately, I noticed inconsistency in the lip syncing (mostly in the first half of the drama).
Of course, reviews and ratings are very subjective. But I do really like “Moonlight Mystique” and after finishing it, my gut tells me it's worth between 8.5-9.0. Therefore, I am giving this an 8.75 (rounding up to 9.0), the same rating as “Ancient Love Poetry”. It’s not a perfect drama, but these days, it’s hard to find one that keeps me invested throughout with solid acting, and no annoying characters.
Random Observations:
1. Warning: Do not get attached to any character, you will be heartbroken.
2. It’s lovely to have a drama with all smart leads who you like and can root for.
3. Bai Lu has perfected the shock look when being kissed (I’m still not a fan of that look,no matter who the actor/actress is).
4. Wolf boy acted so well in the last back hug scene. Gosh I cried so hard!
5. So, pink and purple light when the leads first made love (?), reminds me of “Ashes of Love”.
6. Rare to see a wedding proposal in a xianxia and it was sad and beautiful at the same time.
7. I am fine with the actual ending and don’t need more. I might be in the minority, though pretty and sweet, I find the special episode (lines spoken) also cheesy and a little cringe.

Perfect
Damn... I've just finished this drama and I already want to watch again and probably will cuz I don't think I'll find something better anytime soon.Moonlight Mystique has me hooked from the 1st ep. I'm big fan of Bai Lu acting but it was the 1st time for me watching Ao Rui Peng and damn - he delivered and I can't wait to see his upcoming productions.
I'm not even sure where to start with this review cuz I loved everything - story, acting, music, costumes and scenography - all of it was top-notch and memorable.
Nevertheless, the most important thing about Moonlight Mystique is that it's the most wholesome wuxia drama I've seen. Ofc I haven't seen all of them, probably even missed some popular ones, but with other ones I've already watched I always struggled with one thing - their plot starts to drag on in 2nd half and leads encounters one conflict after another, drifting apart and being unable to properly communicate and choosing to suffer alone. BUT you won't find this here and is the thing I love the most about this drama.
Bai Shou and Fan Yue, even when starting as enemies, are pretty honest with each other - they don't avoid talking about their needs, feelings, fears and doubts. Their journey is far from easy one, but they always face every life-and-death situation together, never doubting themselves and their relationship. They both grow, not only as a couple, but also as individuals, bringing the best in each other.
Besides really healthy relationship between our leads I want to say that chemistry between them is mind-blowing - I swear, this drama has the most beautiful, passionate and heartbreaking kissing scene I've ever seen. I literally could see all their emotions and I think it's my favourite scene from whole drama and damn, Bai Shou really rocked in this, showing her inner strength despite all circumstances.
Other thing I love about this drama is that it shows that world it's not only black and white - the biggest sinner can found compassion and kindness in their heart, the good person can went astray and turn villain. Destiny isn't predetermined, we choose our path and who we want to become. In Moonlight Mystique we meet many morally grey characters and learn that not everything is as simple as it looks at the 1st glance.
I'm not good with writing long reviews and I can't exactly put my thoughts into words, but I would like to encourage everyone to give this drama a shot. It's really beautiful, touching and interesting from the beginning till the end - defo becoming my top one, so just watch it and I hope you will love it as I do!

A heartwarming, adventurous story with the perfect amount of romance!
Having watched TTEOM before, I wasn't really expecting this story to hit me so hard. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS DRAMA.Reasons why I would rate this a solid 10/10:
1. FAN YUE!!! I wasn't expecting his character to be so different from the usual 'demons' and 'grey leads' of dramas of this genre. He's not born to be a demon king, he fought for his position to become powerful and seek revenge. He has not given up his compassion to sound badass and powerful. He's compassionate, caring, and loving along with being powerful. *MUUUAHHHH*
2. The story is very engaging. Every episode had a different story to tell, every mission made sense and all the cameo roles were so nicely used. Love how they connected dots throughout the drama.
3. THE CHEMISTRY!!!! I don't have words to describe how much I love the chemistry between all the couples. I genuinelyyyyyyy hope they are paired again in different dramas!
4. Platonic ships are not weak. All the platonic ships made sure I was crying throughout the show. Love how they focused on the platonic ships for both Bai Shuo and Fan Yue and didn't restrict it to just Bai Shuo's family.
5. There's a lot of trauma, heartbreak and death here but they are essential to the plot. It doesn't feel like the writers killed everyone for fun.
6. Acting!! I LOVE YOU ARP!!! And ofc, Bailu is a star in all her dramas. (but sorry bailu, i love ARP more here ;-))
7. VFX is amazing. Doesn't seem heavy on the eyes. In fact, adds up to the cinematography and aesthetics of the drama.
8. Great costumes and styling. Beware of falling in love with the lovely faces!
Points where i feel the drama is low:
1. Hate the sets. Especially the Unbridled Pavilion.

the actors who portray Bai Shuo and Fan Yue did their job breathtakingly. its true that i didn't expect much about this drama when i start watching this but this one is really really beautiful one. its story line astonishing me in many ways such as story music acting VFX .thank you creators for creating such a magnum opus.

i don’t know from where i begin reviewing Moonlight MystiqueBut lets see the storyline first;
an absolute masterpiece!! all the characters not only main leads even the small characters all have a purpose and meaning to the drama and that's what make this drama interesting because you can see the storyline connection to eachother even till the end it remains mysterious in its own way that's why it is interesting.
the production of this drama is also indescribable not only Bai Lu and Ao Rui Peng but the entire cast showed such true emotions for their characters where it’s honestly like watching the characters themselves and their stories not the actor/actress aside from acting the whole crew from behind the scenes legit act like a family all understanding eachother.
the CGI, the costumes and the OSTs of this drama is just masterpiece alone whenever I listen to the OST of this drama i can feel every feeling and remember the scene happened along with the song, it is just an absolute masterpiece!!
It's a much watch xianxia drama. The story and acting is so good that you can feel what the characters are feeling. Even i feel sad in some scenes and even cried a lot and i even though it have sad ending but i was super excited to see them together it was such a beautiful moment damnn!!
for me the saddest part in this drama are many like when her parents died it was painful to watch and the most cried scene for me is when Bai Shuo takes the flowers and propose Fan Yue and without my realisation the tears started flowing and I didn't even realise.
Overall every character in this drama is amazing and having their own story line be it the Protagonists or the supporting characters. well i enjoyed this drama soo much and I think i will watched it again, i guess i really wanted to torment myself with tears loll

Xianxia drama with a fresh taste
Just finished this drama, and I have to say I am really happy with the story and, especially, the ending. There are many good novels turned into bad dramas lately in xianxia genre, so this is really a nice surprise.Now lets talk about the cast:
Bai Lu: not much to say about her because I don’t doubt her quality, love this girl since Lu Zhao Yao in “The Legends”, and I’ve been watching almost all of her costume dramas and never got disappointed.
Ao Rui Peng: I am not too familiar with his works, first time saw him as Yan Yan in “A Female Student Arrives at the Imperial College”. He was perfect as a goofy Lei Wu Jie but I didn’t expect he would be such a cold ruthless demon king with a side of romance and VERY HANDSOME, and he did good. I hope people recognized his talents now and we’ll see him more 😊 I know he has a lot of upcoming dramas – I hope they will release Coroner's Diary soon!
Dai Lu Wa: cute. I remember her as a spoil sister in Lost You Forever – but in MM Fu Ling was beyond cruel and I somewhat expected she is the missing Bai Xi but didn’t expect her to be the missing weapon. She is just too beautiful to hate haha maybe that’s why Chong Zhao can’t hate her even before he recognized her as Bai Xi.
Chang Hua Sen : from jealous crazy disciple (A Journey to Love), then I thought crazy emperor in Are You The One, then the eternal / Hidden Lord. I don’t think he was ruthless enough in MM – but also hope we’ll see him more. I don’t see his next roles as 1st ML so hopefully he’ll get that soon.
Now the story. I love how this is not another typical xianxia story – those with many tribulations and scheming. Lots of heart breaking moments, but I am glad I didn’t have to throw my slippers at anyone (remember Wu Han???). And speaking of ALP, though both ALP and MM novels are from the same writer and somewhat connected, the dramas are not related. I heard due to copy right, they changed the name from Yue Mi to Bai Shuo, and Tian Qi to Fan Yue, and I’m glad they did because the stories happened at the different timeline and different realms. Keeping the names differently make me not to keep trying to connect MM story to ALP story.
When people ask me which one is my fave among ALP, TLI, or MM, I think the three of them are just different stories. Probably TLI and ALP feels more connected, but I think MM is a complete separate story. While ALP is a great drama, the story line is a very common xianxia story. ALP is more complex and you might need to watch multiple times to fully understand the emotional connections with the characters.
MM feels, fresh and different, easier to understand. I also think the chemistry, unexpectedly, is really strong between Bai Shuo and Fan Yue.
The ending, phew! The novel was unfinished during the drama was made, I am glad it is a HE, maybe another five second ending, but that that one extra helps with the closure. Yes other characters died, but I’m so tired of watching supporting roles live but main roles died. Besides, like what Tian Huo said, all of them have their purpose.
If there is one thing I don’t like about this drama, it’s the blood 🩸 🩸spitting scene. Urgh, the way they puke out a bucket out of nowhere – not even spitting anymore. Is this a new thing???
In closing, if you're looking for a sweet fantasy drama without much heart wrenching, this is the one.
