A great thing runned by story

The acter and actress were good at their acting but the change in character behavior was incoherent to their conditions . Characters were inconsistent in their own behavior.

The story look like planned event rather than consistent in flow.what i mean is the psyche of characher was inconsistent with their behavior and set up

Declaration: i personally like bai lu so my review may be biased

Probably the Best Fantasy Drama of 2025!

It was easily the best drama of 2025 for me! The acting of all characters were on point..it couldn't have been more perfect. The storyline was epic and engaging. If you have ever watched "The love between fairy and devil" and loved it then you will love it too.

The most important thing is the FMC was NOT DUMB. She used her brain in everything (which I personally like in dramas..well no one likes a dumb FMC..so we?). Oh, and the female characters together were on so good..I am still drooling over them.

I surely won't get over this drama for a long time!! Please Please go and watch it if you haven't already

The Most Entertaining Watch Ever!!

For avid fans of “Ancient Love Poetry”, this show will indeed be a treat beyond expectations!

Adapted from the novel “Bai Shuo Shang Shen” (白烁上神) by Xing Ling (星零), “Moonlight Mystique” is set in the same universe as “Ancient Love Story” albeit several centuries later. If you have watched the prequel, you would have noticed the ill-fated romance between Yue Mi, Goddess of Moon and Stars & Tian Qi/Jing Yuan, one of the Four True Gods (Demon God). These two characters reincarnate in the present times as Bai Shuo & Fan Yue. Obviously, they don’t remember their past selves as Bai Shou is born a human and Fan Yue as a demon. Despite being born in different places, they reunite under excruciating circumstances and without remembering their past lives, they still fall for each other. The cinematography is rustic and mesmerizing with stunning outfits and regalia that are resplendent of most Chinese historicals. Watching Bai Lu & Ao Rui Peng bicker endlessly is actually cute and endearing!

Enjoying Moonlight Mystique

Moonlight Mystique is a captivating drama that masterfully weaves together romance, wuxia, fantasy, and melodrama, making for a truly compelling narrative. With its fast-paced storyline and well-developed characters, the main cast brings the story to life in a truly impressive way.
I appreciate a compelling female lead, and this character must be written in a way that inspires me to support her. Among numerous characters, the female lead's remarkable ambition, noble drive, and relatable motivations make her stand out. Furthermore, her lively and entertaining personality, perfectly captured by Bai Lu's acting, makes her a delight to watch. Witnessing a female character act with autonomy and navigate life's complexities is truly captivating
Excellent chemistry exists between the leads, and their believable interactions always captivate me. Their scenes are truly convincing and speak for themselves. This also underscores my desire to see authentic chemistry between the leads. For me, exceptional acting occurs when I forget that I'm watching performers and instead believe they embody the characters they're portraying, which is undoubtedly achieved by both leads here. The costume design is deserving of acclaim for its amazing bolors, which flawlessly encapsulates the character's essence. The costume department has demonstrated exceptional skill. Furthermore, the drama's utilization of lighting and color is visually breathtaking. The original soundtrack is equally commendable, featuring harmonies that are aurally pleasing. Notably, I found myself fully engaged in the narrative, without the inclination to skip any scenes, which speaks to the drama's effective pacing. The fight scenes are also noteworthy, particularly those between Fan Yue's subordinates and Chang Zhao. The CGI is remarkably well-executed, striking a balance that is uncommon in xianxia dramas. In conclusion, I highly recommend Moonlight Mystique, a captivating xianxia drama that has managed to hold my attention from the very beginning.

!!great chemistry, good story, awesome cast. It's rare for me to not fast forward!

You don't need to go watch the other prologue drama Ancient love poetry, but a little summary of them might help before watching. It's on the discussion page. I got really bored of "story of pearl girl" when it was airing, but i'm actually waiting daily to watch each episode of this drama.

The plot: FL is a goddess in her past life who is now a human, and she reconnects with the "Desireless stone" that she once created. The demon king ML needs this stone to heal his curse. Her main quest for pursuing completion of the stone is to avenge her father's death, so their goals align. He also starts developing feelings for her, while they both question what kind of person each other really is.

Side characters are mostly interesting so far. I feel like 2nd ML might become a villain eventually. Tian Huo actually got a whole story arc. The fox clan arc was also well done.
Villains- I am really enjoying the cold spring palace villains. The girl is twisted in a tragic state hoping for romance with 2nd ML..

Minor negatives- Set design is very fantastical but in a corny way. By that i mean the rainbow carved throne and rooms. I don't get why the eternal sects are supposed to be powerful but portrayed in a homeless manner.

I loved bai lu in "story of kunning palace", and ao rui peng is doing really good in this role. I hope to see more of him

Visually, "Moonlight Mystique" is a feast for the eyes. The attention to detail in costume design, set pieces, and lighting creates a dreamlike atmosphere that perfectly complements the narrative’s ethereal quality. The soundtrack deserves special mention, with its haunting melodies amplifying the drama’s emotional intensity.
The drama revolves around a complex web of love, secrets, and destiny, set against a backdrop of ancient traditions and supernatural elements. The script is impeccably written, balancing suspenseful twists with heartfelt moments that resonate deeply. The dialogue is poetic and meaningful, elevating the emotional impact of every scene.

The performances are exceptional, with the lead actors delivering powerful portrayals of their characters. The chemistry between the protagonists is palpable, drawing viewers into their journey of love and sacrifice. The supporting cast also shines, bringing depth and nuance to the story’s intricate layers.

Excited and wanting more rn

Story so far is soo good, but I don't know why the haters are already writing down 1 star reviews when we're just 25% into the entire series. I swear, these people can deny it as much as they want but it will never benefit you in any way if you hate on Bailu, it hasn't even been a week and people are already complaining, then go and make a better film instead of spending your time online just to hate on her?

Anyways, let's put that aside. I've been seeing alot of comments regarding about the cgi and unfortunately I have to agree as well, it's horrible. And no I am not hating on Bailu, I'm doing the literal opposite, just gonna complain about the production team and everyone in that mini circle. No words can describe how much I hate the people who was in charge of filming and editing the scenes of Bailu ( and the rest of the cast ). They be choosing the most random ass looking angle to film, thinking they had done a good job but it's sad, because I have a question. How much experience do these guys even have in filming? I doubt I could do any worser, let alone a freaking toddler who has no experience whatsoever in the field of filming. Was the camera too heavy? Did a bird flew in their eye throughout the months of recording? Do they have eye problems? What seems to even be the issue, seriously. I've never once watched a drama, focusing solely on the scenes with random angles. I'm ranting so much because I'm so angry, Bailu casted into this piece of trash of a drama where she has people criticizing her because of the production team's fault who suck at their jobs. Seriously so done with the antis, they could eat crap for all I care. It's not her fault she was casted into this drama without knowing the filmers would be this garbage, it's truly a pity for her, if the filmers had done their job right then the haters will finally shut their mouth up. As for the editors... RETIRE PLEASE. I'm more than 999% sure that MM ha a big budget so why the hell do these people look like their new to CGI? I feel so upset, because I wanted Bailu to shine a lot this year and I am greeted with this, this drama is such a humiliation to her. If I was her, I'd sue.

Sigh.. but whatever, I'm still watching till the end for Bailu <3, why am I even ranting lol. So if anyone is even reading this, PLEASE watch the end and make sure to give MM a good rating. I know this drama probably already doesn't deserve it already because of the quality of the drama, but please do consider Bailu's rep and help her out. Right now, the story is actually pretty interesting and I really love the romance which is starting to form between her and ML. Just let the poor written script slide for once, it's not her fault that the production team is like this, she couldn't have predicted that this drama will start and end like that. :P

Personally for me, nothing as matters as long as a story is written well and interesting. Set your priorities straight, don't ditch some actors just because of faults that isn't even theirs to begin with, they're actors who literally have to follow whatever that's written and given to them lol. They can't decide how their makeup, costume or dialogues will be like, nor their personality.

Kill me now - It is so boring, draggy, and stupid script even with good actress.

Moonlight Mystique is a Xian Xia costume drama about good and evil again (immortal vs demon.) It is nothing new; every Xian Xia drama has the same or similar story. It was freaking boring to watch.

I like Bai Lu, but ever since "Love is Sweet," I have not been able to finish any of her dramas, especially the Xian Xie ones, which she has been in a lot lately. It is not my favorite genre, but I watch it because of my favorite actors and actresses, and I get disappointed every single time with this genre.

I am in episode 8 right now, and I can't get it, let alone continue to watch the entire 40 episodes. I am dropping it.

Synopsis: Bai Shuo, the youngest daughter of the General's Mansion, vowed to cultivate immortality to repay a favor. While on her journey to seek immortality, she unexpectedly saved the powerful demon god, Fan Yue. Initially strangers, they gradually went from mutual manipulation to mutual affection, and eventually, both fell in love. Despite facing many obstacles, their love was strong enough to overcome any limitations, allowing them to embrace each other truly.

Chef's Kiss

I absolutely loved the opening episodes (1-5) of Moonlight Mystique! Waiting for the next episode is such a struggle, but it’s been a year without a Bai Lu drama, so here I am. Plus, Ruipeng is so handsome—I’ve been a fan since Blood of the Youth, so I’m excited to see him in this role.

First, let’s talk about the female lead (FL): Bai Lu is absolutely killing it as Bai Shuo. She’s strong, smart, and super observant. By the second or third episode, she’s already piecing together the male lead’s (ML) plan, which shows how sharp her character is. Bai Lu looks stunning, and the outfits and makeup department deserves all the praise—they left no crumbs. Her line delivery has improved so much since her last drama, and I even found myself tearing up during her father’s death scene.

Now, the male lead: I know some netizens were hating on Ruipeng for taking this role, but I think he’s doing a fantastic job so far. His chemistry with Bai Lu is off the charts! He’s playing a no-nonsense demon, and he’s been serious and intense, which fits this role perfectly. I’m really excited to see how his character evolves as the show progresses. Honestly, every time he says lines like, "Don’t dare touch her—she’s mine," I couldn’t help but squeal. That dominating, commanding aura he brings to the character is everything this role needs.

Also, shoutout to his costume design! The dark purple, black, and blue color scheme suits him so well—it’s just chef’s kiss. The costume department really outdid themselves. On top of that, the lighting and color scheme of the drama are gorgeous.

The OSTs are also amazing—super pleasing to the ears. I noticed that I wasn’t skipping parts like I usually would in other dramas, which says a lot. The pacing is great, not draggy at all, and every scene contributes to moving the story forward.

The fight scenes? Wow. I especially loved the ones between Fan Yue’s subordinates and Chang Zhao. The CGI is surprisingly good—not overdone, which can be rare in xianxia dramas.

Overall, I would definitely recommend Moonlight Mystique. Xianxia dramas don’t usually grab my attention this early on, but this one has me hooked!

had a strong idea but didn’t quite know how to bring it to life

It had a lot of potential, but unfortunately, it fell flat for me after watching the first nine episodes. The premise was intriguing, blending elements of fantasy and romance, but the execution left much to be desired.

The pacing felt off, with some episodes dragging on while others seemed rushed. I found myself losing interest during long stretches of dialogue that didn’t seem to contribute much to the plot. The characters, while they had interesting backgrounds, often felt one-dimensional and lacked the depth needed to make me care about their journeys.

Visually, the show has its moments, but it didn’t consistently deliver the stunning visuals I hoped for. Some scenes were beautifully crafted, but others felt cheap and uninspired. The soundtrack was decent, but it didn’t stand out in a way that enhanced the viewing experience.

Such a disappointment….

I wanted to live this drama. It started well with an amazing cinematography and certain charm. Then it was a whirlwind of stereotypes, & cliches.
Where should i start?
We can easily guess who is the long lost sister Xi and ofc the script made her killed her own father. Then we can guess who is there long lost brother Qi Feng!
The villain is such a cliche. The second male lead Chong Zhao was set up to be this obsessive man who ends up in this live triangle, repeating same arguments for 20 episodes to have his childhood sweetheart back.
But… we could pass all this because of the magical decor & landscapes but everything took the wrong turn at episode 20 when they went to the Fox realm and in 2 episodes we had 3 people who sacrifices themselves in the name of love and especially Mu Jiu who asked Fan Yue to kill him for him to retrieve the water stone and that he can leave happy with Bai Shuo! Tian Huo is then very understanding and they all cry the death of Mu Jiu whose sacrifice was finally enough to calm down all the fox spirits and ofc the lead characters can continue their adventures!
But based on the characters, if someone killed Fan Yue or Bai Shuo for the same reason, he would have become part of the revenge list! So it doesn’t make sense at all.
The drama became a succession of cliches where complexity of characters was lost and ended up being a big mess and lot of contradictions in the emotions that were portrayed! Complexity doesn’t mean chaos!

Finally, as mentioned there are a lot of repetitions in the story as you can tell that the characters were not well thoughts and so to compensate cliches were added!

And can we talk about the bgm with the swoosh…. Bam! Every time a character says something to emphasize on it?? It is so annoying 🙄
