this is definitely worth it!

1000/10
This show was very eye opening and super comforting. I love how they implemented the importance of family and love, how friendships don’t necessarily have to fade away if both parties are putting in the effort. How studying and getting good grades doesn’t mean you are going to be successful in life. How in a blink of an eye we can lose our love ones. I love the relationship they all had, but I do wish for qiqi character to not appear again. As for the main leads, I love how they portrayed their love, simple, supportive, caring, and innocent. It really highlights the importance of overcoming traumas together and being there for each other. I also really liked how we got to see the different characters POV’s from time to time, that was definitely beautiful. The university life, was also very well done and realistic in my opinion, we only truly start living once we become adults and realize the outcome is in our hands. The ending did felt a bit rush, some characters did deserve better.
My heart hurt for Song Cong, but I kinda get the concept of him staying alone. It didn’t work out with qiqi bc just like his character stated realistically love it’s not everything in a relationship. As for Du man and him, the kiss they shared was sort of a comfort they both needed after seeing the patient passing… furthermore, I do wish they would have ended together. Overall, this is definitely one of my top dramas, I love the simplicity and the realism of the characters in their family, love and friendships. How all of them got to look back and even though their future didn’t turn out as they planned it in high school, they were in some level of happiness.

From Cliché to Masterpiece: A Story That Stays With You

Here’s your fully blended, refined review—with your new ending adjusted (review feels long, not the drama) and everything stitched together smoothly while keeping your original emotion intact:

I stumbled upon this Chinese drama through a random YouTube ad, assuming it would be just another cliché—school life, childhood friendships, love triangles, and predictable romance. And honestly, in the beginning, it does feel exactly like that.

But then… it quietly transforms.

What starts as a familiar story of three childhood friends and tangled emotions slowly unfolds into something far deeper—an honest, almost unsettling reflection of real life. While some might feel the story peaks in high school and slows down in college, I felt the exact opposite. The real story begins when they step into university—that’s where life truly hits, where characters grow, drift, fail, rebuild, and become real.

By the final episode, it leaves you with a simple but powerful realization—this is life.

Not everyone achieves what they once dreamed of.
Not every topper in school succeeds in life.
Not every struggler stays behind.

Life doesn’t follow a script. It surprises you—sometimes beautifully, sometimes painfully.

This drama helped me truly understand what “slice of life” and “coming of age” actually mean. It doesn’t glamorize anything. It doesn’t exaggerate struggles. Instead, it gently prepares you for reality—for imperfection, unpredictability, and acceptance.

It teaches something incredibly simple yet profound:

Happiness is not always tied to achievement.

Regrets are universal—everyone carries them.

The key is to accept, learn, and move forward.

You don’t have to accomplish everything you once set out to do to feel fulfilled. You don’t need a grand purpose to be happy. Sometimes, happiness exists in the smallest, quietest moments—without reason, without validation.

One line from the story stays with you:
Being happy for no reason is still happiness.

And that’s the essence.

On the performance front, this drama absolutely nails it. The casting feels so perfect that every character doesn’t just act—they live. At times, it’s hard to tell whether the writing made the actors shine or the actors brought the characters alive so beautifully. Either way, everything feels authentic.

The acting is effortless, the direction is subtle yet powerful, and the storytelling is deeply immersive. Even the art and production design deserve special mention—especially the homes. Since the title revolves around “home,” every space feels warm, lived-in, and personal. The houses don’t look like sets; they feel like places you’ve been to… a friend’s house, a family space, or somewhere you could belong.

There’s a comforting authenticity in how everything is built—cozy, intimate, and emotionally grounding. It truly makes you feel at home.

It also made me reflect—if I had watched something like this 30 years ago, maybe I would have understood life a little earlier, carried fewer regrets, and embraced happiness more freely. Not that I’m unhappy today—but now, my happiness feels more meaningful.

And if this review feels a little long, it’s only because some experiences are hard to contain in a few words. When something connects this deeply, you just want to keep talking about it.

Because this isn’t just something you watch.
It’s something you experience.

Everyone changes with time but some friendships stay for a life time

When i first started this drama i was skeptical because i didn't think i'd like it. I thought its yet another high school drama and there won't be anything going on. Boy was i wrong. I fell in love with the characters and the show. I didn't expect it to make me cry and laugh at the same time. I didn't expect myself to crave the kind of friendships they have years later. As a highschooler myself-with good friendships and amazing people in my life, This drama made me believe that maybe after we're all grown up, we'll still love each other the way we do now. Honestly one of the best dramas i have watched. I feel like rewatching it won't hit the same as the emotions you feel the first time are unreal. I hope that everyone experiences friendships like this once in their life.

Quote I can’t forget: Only when you love someone so much that you can fight confidently.

I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it A LOT. I randomly picked it up after seeing a really short clip on tiktok (can’t even remember which clip it was) and told myself ‘okay, let’s try’. Before I knew it I was already invested and I couldn’t look away, I had to watch at every free time I get.

I have watched a lot of youth dramas kdramas and cdramas alike but for cdrama this is probably the only one I never fast forwarded anything. Every moment was important to me, and I had to rewind for every scene I missed (especially when they’re saying inspiring or relatable sentiments).

Is the drama in any way using different tropes? NOPE. It probably even used all the tropes there is in a youth/family/romance drama ever. But, what sets it apart from others is the way they resolve the conflicts. Plus, at the end of each conflict, there’s usually a quote that’s being narrated that just pulls at the heartstrings.

My favorite things:
1) the relationship of the people in the compound and how they support each other: parents to parents; parents to children; children to children, it’s so endearing to see.
2) how realistic it is (parents usually hide the important information to their kids and always says ‘everything is okay’ even when it’s not entirely okay at all/ parents don’t want their children to see them at their weak states so they hide that too/ children usually do a lot of things w/o thinking of the consequences/ children are ALWAYS afraid when parents are arguing)
3) the relationship of Xichi and Huan Er, it’s been consistent throughout the show, they know exactly what kind of comfort the other one needs at that time…they were literally so fluffy and I can’t move on from them (help) THE BEST YOUTH DRAMA SHIP (I dare anyone to tell me otherwise 🫣)
4) the narration of Huan Er 🥹🥹🥹

I will never forget this drama and when the day comes that I forget it in time, I’m going to rewatch it again. I can’t believe I just stumbled upon this but it became one of my favorites (if not my most favorite youth drama) 😭🥹 I’m so sad it ended.

A soft and nostalgic coming-of-age story about youth, friendship, and the feeling of belonging. The drama captures the beauty of ordinary days—school life, family warmth, and growing up together. What makes it special is the comforting atmosphere and strong friendship dynamics. It’s less about big conflicts and more about emotions, memories, and the people who become your home along the way.

Better than a lot of recent school dramas

I would say a strong contender for one of the better school dramas that I have watched. The story line was solid with really good acting by the cast.

They dabbled between heartwarming, mellow and slow burn romance which I really appreciated. Overall a great enjoyable watch. It was really fresh how they didn’t make the leads better and mightier than all just because they are leads, they had their own issues and faults which made them a better person. Little details and narrations were really well done and they delved deeper into the parents storylines which made it so much more wholesome. Definitely give it go if you are looking for something to cry and relate hard to.

My New All-Time Favorite Comfort Drama

I stumbled upon this drama randomly after looking for a show that would give me similar vibes to WIFTY. I'm so glad I gave Always Home a chance because it blew my expectations! The story and characters had a perfect balance of wholesomeness and realism with adorable moments mixed in with serious life lessons. The main leads are what made this drama so enjoyable as their dynamic was so fun to watch. I love how this drama rose above the cliches and tropes and gave us a healthy and meaningful relationship. I feel like we never get to see slow-burns like this anymore! If you're considering watching Always Home, I highly recommend.

I genuinely believe that if you're in high school, college, or simply feeling like you don't know where you life is headed, you should watch it.

This show is about this group of friends in high school, navigating their life. It depicts the lives of these friends who live close by and how they help each other. The three main characters are so well written. From their family backstory, struggles of a student/athlete, how to fit in, having crushes, academics, family pressure, and what to do after high school. etc.

Once they graduated high school, that's where the real story begins! It's also not just all fun and games, there real scenes that hits you hard. One of Huan Er's roomates goes back to her hometown, they say how some live ordinary lives despite their potential. Xi Chi is having a hard time with work. Qi Qi moving abroad, They tackle life struggles people have, issues that the viewers may relate to.

The last episode were the characters from their high school and talk about life. Some are successful, studying, navigating life.

I'm still on the restaurant

👍

I watched a lot of school dramas in Chinese, and some of them have similar storylines. But I knew that each one would always be unique in some aspect. When I started watching 'Always Home,' I couldn't help but continue watching. I didn't think it would turn out to be so good, let alone one of the best. I picked this drama because of one of the actors, who played a role in another drama I enjoyed, and I wanted to see more of his work. As it turns out, he's one of the main leads in this drama.

I must say, this drama is really good. It explores how our lives change, and we often forget the good things that happened in our past, especially during our school days. However, something can trigger memories of the past, and even if our surroundings change, the memories remain. Even if our house is torn down or our favorite snacks are no longer available, it's okay as long as we have a way back home. And in life, there's always a way to get back on track.

If you're reading this and want to watch the drama based on my review, I can assure you that it stands out. It teaches us to cherish the moments we have and make decisions that matter. When the drama talks about 'home,' it's not just about the physical structure or furniture, but about something we all seek - love, memories, and happiness. Watching 'Always Home' won't disappoint you; it'll teach you valuable lessons. Although it's a romance, it shows us that life can be better if we choose to be happy, even if it's just for a moment.

A refreshing and wholesome youth drama with the greenest flag characters.

I finally finished watching it, and now I'm sad. I didn't think i'd love this drama so much. The storyline was so refreshing and sweet. The main three characters ' song cong, jing xichi, and chen huan' er' are three of the best characters I've ever seen. They all had distinct personalities but somehow they fit each other so well.
I really enjoyed watching their journey from high schoolers to working life.
The relationship b/w xichi and huan'er is one of the best in C-dramas. Their chemistry was so natural, the way they supported e/o through everything was truly a treat to watch.
I wished song cong would end up with du man. They had great chemistry.
Overall, they delivered everything and ended on a very good note.

A Heartfelt Masterpiece

It's been so long since I've been this glued to a drama! Always Home is such a beautiful and touching story that I genuinely didn’t want it to end. I could have easily watched more because this wasn’t just about school life—it was about the journey of growing up, the struggles and love of family, and those small but meaningful steps in life.

One of the standout performances for me was from Xi Chi (who I remember from Falling Into Your Smile). I completely fell in love with his character here—he's the definition of a green flag! His relationship with Huan Er was one of the most innocent and beautifully developed romances I’ve seen in a long time. Their love felt so pure, built on trust, care, and genuine understanding. And Huan Er herself was such a sweetheart—her warmth and kindness made her character truly shine.

Then there’s Song Cong, an SML that I absolutely adored! I was beyond happy that he and Qi Qi didn’t end up together. Qi Qi was such a baseless character for me—selfish yet selfless in all the wrong ways. She never even tried to understand others, whether in friendships or relationships. But Song Cong and Du Man? Now that’s a pair I’m rooting for! They have real depth, mutual understanding, and a bond that just makes sense.

Gosh, I’m really going to miss this show. It’s a 10/10 from me and an absolute must-watch!
