It's 2024, Disability Is Not A Sad Ending

It took me a while to want to revisit this show and how badly the ending fumbled the legacy of the show in my eyes, but I wanted to update my profile so here we are. Anyway. It's been 3 weeks since the finale and I'm sure everything that needed to be said has already been said. As the title shows, I'm on the side of very bad ending. I was seated for every single episode of this show, it had amazing acting from JimmySea and MarkNamtan, the cinematography was breathtaking, the literary parallels were beautiful, the osts were magical. This show had everything to make up a good show and for the first 10 episodes it was! The character development was character development-ing, the plot was plotting, and the messages were giving! But they had to ruin it by making MhokDay break up and immediately time jumping with no resolution to their fight and then giving Day his eyesight back. I'll start with the breakup: I understand that MhokDay were heavy codependent and needed to break up and mature away from each other, I get that. But that only works if the blindness was a permanent thing, which SURPRISE TO LITERALLY EVERYONE IT WASN'T???? I don't know, I'm so tired I don't wanna get into it about how disability isn't a curse of misery and disabled people deserved to be happy and we are all too old to be making stories that use disability as a plot device rather than having it be something that fleshes out a character and informs their decisions and isn't viewed with pity idk. I'm sure this review makes no sense so long story short, loved the show, ending soured my love for it, if anyone wants to watch it, just stop at episode 9 or 10.

Would have been good if not for the last episodes. Watch it.

Love everything until the last two episodes. Apparently loving someone means they are pitying them. Especially, if the recipient is blind because heaven forbids no one can love a blind person wholly and only due to via pity. That's the message of this show. This is where you know the writers of this show haven't spent enough time around people with disabilities. Yes, the folks with disabilities have an ailment that makes them not as able of those who don't have any - but at the end of the day - they are human just like the rest of us and do not take any and all acts of kindness and warmth as pity. By the end of episode 11 I was like, "Day, get over yourself. No one gives a sh*t that you are blind. Especially Mhok."

Would have been better if the ending was bitter sweet because Day did not deserve a happy ending - because he was the one constantly wanting to wallow in self pity. But nope - everyone else is at fault and everyone is always constantly pitying him, apparently. Suddenly a person (Mhok) who wants to spend most of his time and days with the people/person he loves because his own sister's suicide - is treating his love with pity (Day), because he can't possibly JUST want to spend his life with the person he loves so he has to be pitying Day - GTFO here with that nonsense. People make sacrifices all the time for the people they love. I'm at a point in my life (late 30s) where people around me are making the realizations and regrets that they sacrificed love, family, and friendships for careers and it was not worth it. Yet, here we have a character demanding and forcing his supposed "love" to leave him and convinces him that his love only stems from pity because "woe me - I am blind." They even made Mhok admit he was was indeed casting "pity" in episode 12. Take that garbage out of here. The writer of this show is severely pushing the agenda that love for people with disabilities only stems from pity (this is the hill I am dying on because at end the disability disappears).

Had high hopes. The last two episodes were not it. And they were definitely sending the wrong kind of message. As if Mhok was completely at fault and had made the mistakes. Not only that but in episode 12 they also add a fake out - yet around the same issue of "he don't really love me because he only feels sorry for me because I am blind." THEN to top it all off - they get a happy ending and there's no more pity because *SEVERE SARCASM COMING* Day's blindness is cured and thus, his love ain't pity but real. WTF. That is all I have to say.

I really really loved this show... until the last two episode. Made it very apparent that the writers used a disability as a f**king plot device rather explore the character as a real as possible character. After writing this review I had it as a 7/10 but no I have to lower it. Pity is just an excuse to be self-absorbed. And Day was milking that for all it's worth. I would have rather see Mhok get with someone else new, living a happy life (with a shit ton of babies because I am feeling super petty and hateful right now) and seeing Day see his lost (and they can and should keep Day with being a successful writer and book shop owner at the end too and he should still be blind - because being blind does not mean you cannot be successful... or overcome your challenges and to overcome blindness does not mean being able to see again) - that would have been more fitting.

The finale ruined everything

Up until the final episode, the build-up was great. Sure, during some parts, there were plot points that pissed me off, but overall, I loved the story they were telling. But suddenly, everything just shifted towards the last few episodes? And then that horrible excuse for an ending, which quite frankly, was just offensive as hell. Day gettinf back his sight after accepting and living his life with his disability just does not make sense. I would’ve forgave them for the lazy attempt at a time jump if they had not given back his eyesight. Throughout the whole show, they were trying to push this narrative that Day wanted to be considered “normal” despite his vision impairment. However, to say that he “finally got his normal life back” after his eye surgery is certainly the opposite of the story this show was trying to push. They had everything laid out perfectly and they completely shit on the beautiful message they were trying to convey at the very end. I would’ve adored this BL but that last episode completely ruined everything.

Ladies and Gays, please welcome, the BEST BL OF THE YEAR!!!

everyone in this series did their best esp jimmysea. you can really tell how much effort they put and how dedicated they were to be able to convey the beautiful message of the series. i've been a fan of this pair since vice versa and i noticed how they grow together, how they genuinely care for each other, and how they work hard to improve their chemistry even more. back then, most of the BL fans didn't really notice them that much, maybe because other pairs are much more popular. but now i am glad about the recognition they received; they really deserve it! i hope to see them together in another series soon. a big round of applause to everyone who are part of the production of this masterpiece! 👏🌻

If it's the last show I see...

I'd be alright. I've rewatched most of the series at least twice already. I will continue to recommend this show until the day I die.

Pros:
The acting and directing are amazing. Jimmy and Sea and P'Aof did so well and really brought life to these characters - even the side characters that we barely see. Like good job to Mark and Namtan, Film and Ohm, Kun and Emi - just everyone.
The music is full of bangers. I've put those things on repeat and watched the music videos extensively.

The whole team did a great job of really getting at your emotions, whether with the lighting, the camera angles, the music, the facial expressions, hell - the clothes. It became a game of "what shirt or hidden words in the background will we see this week?!"
The show was so well put together. They really had an amazing team for this project.
I felt every emotion for 11 episodes and... most emotions in episode 12.

This show didn't fall into the dreaded weak episode 11, but episode 12 did have some weak points. I'd say episode 12 was the weakest episode of the series, and I think it's because they really needed a whole 3-10 more episodes to really get into more story.

Downsides - some spoilers:
The show never really addresses Mhok's PTSD or trauma responses. The one time Mhok finally tries to bring it up, he's dismissed as feeling pity for Day and kicked out. When he comes back, he thanks Day for breaking his heart and apologizes for pitying him - which is something he never fucking did. I really wish the show had given more time to developing Mhok's healing process instead of saying it all happened off screen during a time jump.

Day's mom is a bitch, but we're meant to forget this because she also apparently had character development during the time skip.

Not enough time with our side couple, honestly. I could use half a show about Night, please. Mark was amazing and he barely had any screen time.

MAJOR SPOILER: Other people's downside: Day's eye surgery. As someone with legal blindness, seeing someone who is super rich manage to get an eye surgery did not bother me. Not in the slightest. I didn't think it detracted from the message of the show or from Day's character development. I was very happy for him. I think he's using his experience to be a better person. I liked it.

A beautiful story that touched my heart ❤️

I started this without much expectations so it really took me by surprise just how good this drama is. At the beginning I was still unsure if I'll really like it but as the story progressed I started to love and care about all the characters and got too attached.

There are so many things I love about this story but I think what I love the most is seeing Day and Mohk's journey through all the ups and downs they faced in their lives... not just in their relationship but also individually. Honestly I had mixed feelings about the last episodes and was really mad that they broke up and after that acted like it was not a big deal. But at the end when I thought about it all I was able to understand the actions of each character better. At first I was confused why Mohk and Day were acting so calm when they met each other after so long but then I was able to understand that even though it hasn't been that long for me for them it's been 3 years and they both must've thought about everything that happened multiple times and must've understood each other's actions better by then. I was also upset that Day still thought what Mohk did was wrong but now I understand that it must've felt really upsetting seeing the person you love lying and giving up opportunities because they were scared to leave you alone. Even though it was not done out of pity it still must've felt that way to Day. I was also not sure if Day getting his eyesight back would be a good idea but then I realised how stupid that thought was. He always wanted to see and even though he finally accepted that he's blind being able to see again wouldn't be a bad thing since it makes him happy. Why would I be upset about someone being happy? Especially when it's a character/person I really love and care about. Sometimes (or most times) thinking from the perspective of the characters can really help in understanding their actions. The ending also made me really happy because I could actually feel the happiness each of the characters were feeling.

Another thing I loved is the main couple's chemistry. They looked really good together. And their acting was also good. I loved all the other characters too, especially Night and Porjai. I was so happy when I saw them get married. I don't know if I've ever loved a second couple this much before. Also Porjai is so pretty and she's such a nice person and friend. I love her and Mohk's friendship.

The OSTs are also really good and I've already added a few of them to my playlist.

Anyway this is definitely one of my favourite dramas ever and I am glad I decided to watch it.

The greatest BL that GMMTV has ever produced

Among many non-essential adults content BL being aired lately, Last Twilight is the shiniest and biggest hope for us. This series is the best. It shows us the development of every characters in there. No characters in here is unnecessary and annoying. Mhok is the walking greenest flag in BL's industry. We should have our own Mhok in real life. Day is the best representation of how we handle grief and he is a pure, innocent, and lovely boy. Both of them will be remembered. Jimmy and Sea are obviously the great actors. I wish GMMTV would treat them better now after the success of Last Twilight. This series will be forever engraved in my mind. The acting, plot , and even music all seem perfect to me. I know that the ending might not be appreciate by some fans. It's controversial. It's being debated which one is better, hope or acceptance. In my opinion, both are necessary for us all. We hope for better things come, so we accept the present and try to live on. For me, this kind of ending is a great choice. I do love this ending. It showed us that hope is still waiting for you there, you just have to keep fighting it. The more I watched the finale, the more I understand why they chose to end like this. Last Twilight is about hope. If they chose the another way, it might be greater messages like some fans expected. By the way, this kind of ending doesn't erase the strong messages they have always sent. This show is my top1 BL tier. I recommend everyone to watch this at least once in your lifetimes.

I know that if Day kept being blind, it would be a strong impact like disable people can be happy. But I think the series had already sent that message. We once see that Day eventually was being happy with his blind life for almost 4 years. The regaining of his vision back to me was just an extra gift. Moreover, Day now is not the same man who he was before he got an accident. He now is the one who will cherish every moment of his life. He found his lover and his business since he was still being blind. Isn't this enough to say that disabled people can live happily? The fact that he eventually given the eye donation doesn't make this beautiful message seemed loss to me. Moreover, I'm so happy that Day gained his vision back because he finally can see how Mhok kept looking on him. His eye gazes is the beautiful thing in this cruel world.

Wonderful & Touching BL...!!!

I've watched MANY Asian BL's over the years. And this one was simply incredible. From the story, to the actors, the overall chemistry, music, etc...This had ALL the right ingredients to me for a perfect BL. And it's a no wonder why it got an 8.5 overall rating. It is such a sweet and touching story of two men slowly falling in love. Their were episodes i balled my eyes out over. And not many BL's have had that effect on me. I want to see FAR FAR more BL dramas or movies made like this. My hat is off to the director because they nailed it in every way possible. I can't recommend watching this enough. If you aren't moved emotionally by the time your finished watching this. Then something is wrong with you. This is what true love and devotion between two people is all about folks. So do yourselves the favor of watching this. But make sure you have PLENTY of tissues to dry your eyes. You WILL need them.

The best bl series in my opinion.
IT IS VERY WELL BALANCED with romance, sadness, reality and including a disabled character in a show. It gives a chance to go in and leave with many different view points on things and exploring topics to do with disabilities and relationships so it is great for everyone to watch. All the characters are so complex, most people would be able to find a character they relate to or favour.
I have already rewatched and will continue to.

DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT BEING SAD, even though there are a lot of heartbreaking moments one amazing thing that was done was there was an equal balance of tears and happiness. In one episode it won’t be all bad, there will still be so many amazing moments to think of. This is a big point for me as most series just have a terribly sad episode, but this is spaced out so well you are not left completely destroyed.

There are mixed thoughts about some of the things that happen from viewers which is why I believe an open mind and trying to look at all perspectives will be very rewarding.

IF YOU ARE DEBATING ABOUT WATCHING I highly recommend, it has lots of elements of different types of series and is mature in its portrayal. Not matter what you normally watch you will like something about this series.

THIS STRAYED ME FURTHER FROM god

Never in my life have two men ever looked so "scrumdiddlyumptious." The amount of mmmmmm's I uttered was worrying. I've never done drugs, but this is what I imagine they would feel like. Watching the way Mhok looked at Day had me kicking my feet so much, I almost flew. ON GOD! My camera roll is full of screenshots, I had to delete photos of my family to make space. I can remember what my niece looks like, I don't need that many photos of her.

If I had been born a boy, we would be in trouble.

The acting was giving "in my Oscar bag." I was more invested in their relationship than my own life :)

So, when is season 2? End note.

P.S. Night can get some. Day and Mhok, too. Respectfully--or not, whatever they're in to.

PHENOMENAL

I want to start by saying that I am having a hard time right now how will I ever write a review for this drama without forgetting everything I wanna say, and I want to mention GMMTV right now and say to them that, I want to complain because their shows is making it hard for me to weight and to choose and what really is my favorite coz damn this drama is so good that all of my favorite BL just before I watch this is all fading away, them being my favorite .. and it is so so hard ! T_T
So yeah I will just divide then in different aspects so that I may say everything I wanna say here;
STORY
I Just learned after watching few episodes that this is a melodrama genre, and my knowledge about the specificities of drama's are being unfold, So I thought this is the genre that mostly gets me. The story was so refreshing to me, a blind lead and his care taker and they fall in love and overcome every obstacle, I liked it how they connect the story or parts of the book Last Twilight to what was happening to their lives, I was touched in a very deep way with this drama, as Day realizes things in his life as he was on the way to being blind, I too realized many things while watching this, I suddenly became thankful I was not blind, that I can see, and here I saw how hard it is for blinds to live in this world, I just don't get why Day doesn't want himself being pitied, sometimes in situations like that in life , we need people's empathy and pity, right ? I believe it is so, so anyways still good. I so love the progression of the story, I was excited each time, what was going to happen next, loved also how Day and Mhok fell in love with each other, there was no boring moment and the script and screen writing was so nice ! When I learned that the director of this drama was the director of ATOTS, I knew it ! I figured out why, coz the story was as heartfelt as ATOTS, and was so romantic, everything goes just the way I wanted. The part where Day and Mhok had to break up just because Day learned that Mhok was lying to him and the he learned that maybe Mhok also Pitied him ( which I thought was not, Day just misunderstood everything ), I thought, sometimes people has to grow also on their own without each other or other people near them, and sometimes love is not everything but love can be a fuel to your success---proof as what happened to the leads here. I kinda got annoyed to Day though on that part like, was it that easy for him to break up with Mhok after all of those times he was with him even when he knew he love him so much ! Anyways , trust is earned not on a glimpse but with time. I also got annoyed to Day when he rejected Mhok's asking for second chance after few years from breaking up, thankfully Mhok here was so understanding person like, man ! He was literally the guy that everyone dreams about ! And even when he was hurt he can always accept and get Day to be by his side, he values Day so much that he was changed from being a thug and an ex convict to a professional Chef ! I Just love the story, I just love the moments they got little by little close to each other during Mhok's being a caretaker of Day. Their adventure, the part where Day was missing and Mhok wore the neon pink colored shirt just for Day to somehow see the color and made him easily find Mhok back ! And the kissing scene was so passionate. No awkwardness. Even Day cannot see, Mhok opened his eyes to see the beautiful world, a world where he can love, dream and hope, and Day opened Mhok's eyes to see what good is in Mhok. The comedies inserted in this drama was not exaggerated, not too much, just right, and what I wanna mention is that, in this drama, every characters shown at the first part had an ending on the last part ! Coz usually in drama's I've seen, some characters that was shown at the first parts were suddenly missing on the last part , everyone here had a beautiful ending ! I so love this, literally a phenomenal, you can see that this is not just a petty drama, experts like the director here worked together to create this masterpiece and I want to thank them, for a few moments of my life. This became my comfort drama, my eye opener, and a lesson giver, and a hope giver !
ACTORS/ACTING
10 out of 10 for acting, Sea's acting as a blind was such a hard thing to do ! But he justified his character here! Mark as Night so great also and our ultimate green flag caretaker chef, P'Mhok ! Literally amazing I am obsessed, and Phojai or Namtan ! She is insanely beautiful, and she is my favorite character here by the way, well improved acting , two thumbs up I have nothing more to say !
MUSIC
The music here will be my playlist for the whole month like damn ! Because of this songs I felt even more to the bones what was happening to the characters ! They have inserted song in a right timing, and had it with effects depending on what was happening, so so love, when Mhok sang the theme song of this drama on the bar I suddenly had a crush on him ! , damn So many things happened in this drama and I can't believe I finished it already !
REWATCH VALUE
Absolutely a re watch material ! Like first this was so good second, coz why not ? Nothing was boring, love the genre, love the character, love the story and everything was well balanced ! So definitely gonna re watch many times in the future !
OVER ALL
This is one of the Quality Drama I knew, I had fun , I am now confused what will be this drama' s rank on my top lists, I had fun , I cried a good tears, I felt everything, I understood the story's implications and what it wanna drive to the viewer's. I am into drama's like this so much, never a waste of time, Phenomenal Indeed, I want to that everyone who worked frmor this drama, I hope the JimmySea will have more beautiful shows in the future, looking forward and yeah the drama was complete, not lacking anything for me ! And now an official fan of JIMMYSEA, I hope everyone have a good time watching this!
