I could watch this again and again and again

Heads up this isn't really a review it's just me spilling my thoughts as to why I love this., hopefully still an entertaining read though
Okay so this is my 3rd time watching this drama ahah, I love it to bits. This was the first Asian drama I ever watched and honestly I feel if it was any other drama (other than like, True Beauty lol), I wouldn't be half as invested in Asian dramas as I am now. This is 100000% up there in one of my favourite dramas/ movies/ shows I have ever watched because of how it made me feel when I first watched it. It had me completely lost for words and made me so happy on so many levels. It had me completely obsessed, in record time too (I watched the entire thing twice within I think 4 days? And Yu (one of the main leads) was my phone background within like a week lol). I hadn't felt that level of fangirl obsession in AGESSSS (oh how I missed feeling that way ahah, it had been wayyy too long). When I tell you this was all I thought of for a solid 2 weeks oop. I remember I was having a bit of a crap time, we were in lockdown 2, beginning of 2021 and I was at home in online lessons, every day was the same and it was all a bit crap. I watched this and honestly it made me so damn happy I was elated. A couple days later things were a bit dead again but it was fineeee because I knew I could rely on this to make me happy again AND IT DID AYYY
This drama idek how to describe it properly, but it just did the perfect job of taking me away from worries. I felt no stress when watching, I felt completely relaxed and totally absorbed in how frickin adorable this is. Admittedly yes, if you look into it someee aspects are slightly problematic, don't blackmail or stalk people, kids. THAT ASIDE THOUGH: bruh heart eyes. Acting on point too wow that made me FEEL. I lovelovelove the characters, BING WEI DEFINITION LEGEND AH. I remember me and my friend talking about Bing Wei so regularly that our other friends who hadn't even seen the drama would bring up Bing Wei in conversation, as they should. Bing Wei best boi. I had at least two dreams in which Shu Yi's jumper appeared, wow I want that jumper (oh yeah the styling in this was also just really cool? Idk I just vibed with the fits). Can I also say: Aqua Blue, honestly one of my favourite songs of all time, it is so beautiful and ah I can't even describe it makes me feel lighter than air I just- This song was literally my top song of 2021 on Spotify (113 listens, I literally listened to that song at least twice everyday for a solid month, always when making a bagel lol so now when I listen to it/ make a bagel I think of the other thing ygm). I literally called it from February when I first watched this that it would be my top song ahah. As soon as I found the song on Spotify I was like "oh we've got a winner here gang". So beautifully sung, cathartic and just stunning. Rewatching this again I realised how they literally use the same three songs in the whole drama and when you notice it, it is very obvious and loops a lil however I still frickin love the songs either way soooo. Ah dude I just love this and no one will be able to take that away from me. Over time when I keep rewatching it I will definitely realise its trashiness or whatever but do I care? No. I will still continue watching it and treasuring it in my heart as one of my favourite dramas ever because when I tell you this drama opened up the doors to a new chapter in my life, *this drama opened up the doors to a new chapter in my life*, and wow even if this sounds sad and cringey: I would be a different person without it.

I have no words! Like oh my God!

I saw a clip on YouTube and was shocked for a second, seeing a Chinese bl drama with the leads kissing. I quickly went to the comments section, saw it wasn't actually Chinese but Taiwanese, got the name of the drama and soonest possible I was in Drama Cool watching it. (I mean it's free there, so).

I have never been so disappointed with the number of episodes like I was when I watched WBL. Just 6 episodes, but why???

Gao Shi De, amazing deep voice, handsome man, tall.... (I could go on).
Zhou Shu Yi, tbh, at first I didn't think that much of him but since I fell in love at first sight with Gao Shi De, I decided to entertain him and he did not disappoint. These two have the best chemistry ever and having to portray all that in just 6 episodes, amazing! Amazing!

This is a beautiful series!

I keep repeating it, (to the point where they might come up for air and ask for water … Lol) I don't think I'll ever get tired of watching it.

Pei Shou Yi is an angel. He actually played a big role helping these two get together.

If you haven't watched it, please do.

One Of My Favourite BL Couples

These are one of my favourite couples in bl world. I’m someone who rates the chemistry between characters very highly, as I think it goes a long way in establishing the characters, the believability of their feelings and it helps sell the story. I prioritise this over many technical aspects and shortcomings of a production. Thankfully, this series does well in all aspects. It’s a good balance of strong production and strong portrayals.

I would actually rate this an 8.3 but MDL doesn’t allow you to do that.

one of the best BLs

I've been binge watching so much dramas lately, and we best love really did stand out.
the story might look cliche at first, but the way it is executed is refreshing, thanks to the actors and how good their acting is!
it's my first time hearing about YU, and he was amazing.
I absolutely loved the chemistry between the characters, and honestly, a story can be the best one ever, if the main couple don't have chemistry, well..it's doomed !
anyway I'd really recommend this one, as I am going to watch the 2ne season

I just Love this drama so much!

This is really the best BL story that I have had the pleasure to watch The story, the emotions, the acting OMG the acting, so amazing! I cannot wait to keep watching, hopefully more and more seasons. The main couple connection and emotions are above and beyond, their eyes just talk, they just say everything they are feeling. I have watched a fair amount of BL dramas and let me tell you, this is my number 1 right now. The story is just captivating, and their love will make you fall in love with them. I guarantee it! This is a MUST-watch!

BEST BL OF 2021! HANDS DOWN

I never write reviews for any tv show or series but after I watched We Best Love, I needed to tell the world how incredible this show is! You will not regret watching this as it will tug at your heartstrings and you will never want to stop watching this over and over again. The lead couple played by Sam & YU are the highlight of this series, their chemistry is unmatched and unlike any other BL couple I have ever seen. The romance is believable, immensely adorable and so heartwarming. Also, might I add, the kisses are beyond realistic and passionate! I have not seen an on screen couple kiss like they do, and it will give you all the feels. Yes, the show uses a much used background of "enemies" to lovers in university but the pace is brilliant, the direction is impressive and the characters are so lovable, you will be fans by the end of it. The side couples are also worth sticking around for. I would highly recommend this show.

Despite a slight rush in the storyline in the beginning this BL series surpasses several others I've seen with its top-notch production quality, acting, and script. The writer's best work shines through with straightforward yet profound dialogues that beautifully capture the essence of college students' love. The cast deserves a huge shoutout for bringing the characters to life with their perfectly aligned acting styles. This show is definitely worth your time and will leave you craving for more.

Best BL of the Year! Don't read the spoilers or reviews and just go watch it!

This is the perfect BL. It encompasses everything that is BL. Season 1 has the whole student/university innocent love story while Season 2 has the adult angsty drama. It's the whole package.

(Some notes about the Special Edition Ver. for Season 1 at the bottom.)
Anyways, I'll focus on Season 1 now.

Story:

Gao Shi De has always been a thorn in Zhou Shu Yi's side. He's always excelled in everything and should have been number 1 in everything, if it wasn't for Gao Shi De. When Zhou Shu Yi got into college, he thought that was in end of it. Gao Shi De went to a different university so everything should have been good, but now Gao Shi De has transferred to his university. His life is a mess again. His female friend that Zhou Shu Yi has been crushing on is in love with his best friend and now he has to deal with Gao Shi De. It doesn't help that Gao Shi De saw through his pathetic crush and is trying to help him get over it. Zhou Shu Yi's supposed to hate Gao Shi De right?

This is an amazing story. Enemies to Lovers is not anything new in BL or in Romance, but what is new is that Zhou Shu Yi is half-Japanese and it incorporated it into the story. Zhou Shu Yi often uses Japanese phrases to express himself when he's talking to himself or doesn't want to be understood. His friends also accept that and use Japanese phrases too. It's really realistic to someone who is mutli-ethnic. (I'm half-Japanese, and I also use Japanese phrases when talking to myself or when I don't want to be understood. Sometimes there are words in Japanese that express things better than in English too.) I love how Gao Shi De nor any of this friends address the fact that he's half-Japanese and just accept it. In a usual story the fact that Zhou Shu Yi's half-Japanese would be high-lighted and constantly brought up. There is none of that in this story.

Another thing that's different from the norm is that Gao Shi De isn't seeking to be Zhou Shu Yi's boyfriend. He literally just wants to be friends. Yes, he's in love with Zhou Shu Yi, but he spent so long being hated by him that he just wants to be friends and be able to talk to Zhou Shu Yi normally. It was so heartbreaking when Zhou Shu Yi found out about his crush, yet instead of saying "Yes, I'm in love with you. Please date me." He literally told Zhou Shu Yi, "It's none of your business." He was pushing his feelings to the side because he thought Zhou Shu Yi wouldn't accept his love and he didn't want to break their friendship. Such a selfless love!

Acting:

The chemistry between Gao Shi De and Zhou Shu Yi is amazing. Gao Shi De doesn't even have to speak and we can already see what he's thinking and feeling. Gao Shi De might be stoic, but just look into his eyes and you feel every emotion. Such talent! Zhou Shu Yi has significantly a lot more lines than Gao Shi De, but that doesn't mean he can't express himself either. Zhou Shu Yi is more in touch with his emotions and let's them out. He physically shows all of his emotions be it happiness, anger, or pain. Zhou Shu Yi also has the best teary-eye/emotional scenes in the whole BL industry. I can barely name any actors that can compare with him when is comes to scenes that are so emotional they make you tear up. Anyone can cry when they're sad, but to be so emotional that you have tears forming in your eyes, and you don't know why you're crying? Zhou Shu Yi's actor is amazing.

This BL is so amazing that there really isn't much to criticize. If there is any criticism it would be Zhou Shu Yi's Chinese language skills. I don't speak Chinese, so I can't say too much. That being said, since he is acting right next to other Chinese speaking actors, even I can hear it sometimes. Again, I don't speak Chinese, so it doesn't bother me, but I can understand why it would bother some people. However, I can chalk it up to Zhou Shu Yi being half-Chinese, half-Japanese. Realistically though, if Zhou Shu Yi was born and raised in Taiwan his Chinese would be better than Japanese. But seeing as in Season 2 his dad speaks better Japanese than Chinese, I guess the apple didn't fall too far from the tree. Everything can be explained nicely though the storyline, so it works out for me. I do feel bad that the fans are knit-picking at Zhou Shu Yi's actor's Chinese skills (even to the actor's himself) when he was born and raised in Japan, so obviously his Japanese is better than Chinese. If you want to start knit-picking at language, aside from Zhou Shu Yi's actor, when the Chinese actors speak Japanese they have terrible pronunciation. It doesn't bother me though, since they are Chinese and not fluent in Japanese. You can't have everything perfect in life you know. Can all of you criticizing him even speak two languages fluently with perfect pronunciation for both languages? I think most of you can't, so I think it's time we all just sweep this topic under the rug.

Overall:

We Best Love is amazing. One of the best BLs out there. If you haven't watched it, you should.

~~~~~~~~~~ We Best Love: No 1 Special Edition ~~~~~~~~~~
What's the difference?
Bing Wei and Zhe Yu's confrontation scene in the locker room is extended. This is probably the most important scene since they are a featured side couple in the 2nd season. Other than that not much. Just a few scenes other extended, but not important. For example, instead of a short hug or kiss, they just show a few extra seconds of it. I'm not going to name all of them since it does nothing for the story. Season 2 is where the Special Edition is important.
Should you watch the Special Edition first or watch it on the re-watch?
I would just watch the Special Editions. But if you want to watch the normal version and Special Editions then... How do I put this... Watch both normal versions of Season 1 and Season 2 then watch the Special Editions on the rewatch.
YES - Special Edition S1 → Special Edition S2 (Skipping the Normal version is okay)
YES - Normal Ver. S1 → Normal Ver. S2 → Special Edition S1 → Special Edition S2
NO - Normal Ver. S1 → Special Edition S1 → Normal Ver. S2 → Special Edition S2
(You won't understand why they extended some scenes)
NO - Special Edition S1 → Special Edition S2 → Normal Ver. S1 → Normal Ver. S2
(The rewatch will be boring. Especially Season 2's rewatch. You'll probably claim that you wasted your time watching the normal version since you watched it the Special Editions first.)
Series with a beautiful love story and cinematography
This was my first Taiwanese BL to watch and I loved it! I was engaged with the story right from the start and not once during the show did I feel bored even if the topic of this show is nothing new. If I had to describe this show with only one word, I would say that it’s calm. Nothing in this series feels rushed, but rather they give the viewer room to breathe and think, making the show feel airy. It’s such a contrast to all the Thai BL series I have watched so far with their way too many characters, fast moving plot, sometimes over the top acting and rather loud atmosphere.
First thing that I noticed about this show was actually cinematography, which is so new to me, since I’m not usually one to talk much about this topic. I don’t have much knowledge in this area, but even I could tell that it was beautifully done. The scenes were just right - not too long and not too short. The locations! I was really into the short atmospheric shots before the actual scene started. It already gave you the feeling for the scene. Also can we talk about the color palette! Color tone for this show was chosen so well, it worked really well with the rest of the cinematography. Lastly the music, they chose mostly calm instrumental piano and guitar songs and they did amazing in this kind of series. I was actually quite mesmerized with the soundtrack. There was just enough music, but they also used many scenes with no music at all. And it all worked so well! One of the scenes I really liked was the piano scene with Zhou Shu Yi at the start of the series.
Second thing for me was the character Zhou Shu Yi (portrayed amazingly by Yu). Hands down he was my favorite in the whole show! He stole my heart right from the start. His story about always giving 100% but not being enough is something that a lot of people can connect with. I certainly did. Him being rather introverted than extroverted is something I can really relate to. I guess I just saw so much of myself in him. Also, can we talk about his fashion? I would love to have his entire wardrobe. And if we are in this topic I found the symbolism of the necklace so good! We can really see him change during these six episodes. One thing about his story that bothered me was his father. He was mentioned once and shown only once, but nothing came out of this later. Why was he even necessary to show? His scene felt so out of place from the rest of the show. My only guess is that he will be more important in the second season?
Third thing that I loved was the love story between Zhou Shu Yi and Gao Shi De. Their chemistry was just phenomenal. I liked their cat and dog kind of relationship, that was done just right. I didn’t get frustrated or annoyed with them. It seemed that writers knew exactly when to move their story forward and when to drag it a little longer - perfect balance. It was very refreshing to see how at the beginning both of them really worked through their feelings about unrequited love, before the story moved forward. I have to point out this amazing question this show gave us - If you like someone, is it their business to know? I could debate about it for quite some time… Once they actually manage to get together, I must say that I loved their communication with each other. It was so clear to see that they loved each other without having to make their relationship overly sexualised. I liked how they ended the story with a long distance relationship. Neither of them had to give something up to be with the other. I do have to say that I liked this ending until I watched the special scene after episode 6 credits and special episode 6.5. After that the ending left me really confused. What happened? Of course it was a perfect cliffhanger for the second season, I guess, but it ruined the love story for me a little bit.
It seems that a lot of creators' energy went into making the main storyline good because the side couples and their stories were definitely not as thought through. Yes, the main couple had great supportive friends, who didn’t shy away from giving them hard truths, but they were so poorly developed. They were in this show clearly only to support the main love story. I quite enjoyed Fang Zheng Wen and Jiang Yu Xin's relationship, but we didn’t really get to know them. As for the second BL couple, I felt that they were a little bit unnecessary. Also their story seemed so underdeveloped and I didn’t even completely understand how they got together. The show would have been good whether they were in it or not. And then we had Pei Shou Yi, who for some reason wasn’t my favorite. Yes, he played quite a role in getting the main couple together, but his own storyline was kinda missing? We got hints about him having a bad love experience in the past, but we didn’t really learn what happened. I did get an inkling that it was love or crush with a student(?), but I am not completely sure…
All in all, I recommend watching this show because of the really good main couple and amazing filming and postproduction. And I would probably watch it again some time, because of the cinematography and the main character Zhou Shu Yi. However if you are not into slow moving stories, then maybe this show is not your cup of tea.
