Japanese zombie drama with an intense, amazing first half.
This was one of my favourite dramas this season. I haven't seen an Asian zombie drama before and this delivered on my high expectations. The first episode or so didn't impress me but the following episodes got intense and extremely engaging. I looked forward to new episodes every week and waiting for them was a struggle! The writers were great in depicting the depths that humans fall into when trying to survive, the moral dilemmas, how people are valued differently in our society because of factors they can't control, and how large groups of people are easily manipulated. I'll be honest, the zombies weren't that frightening, the other survivors were the scariest part of the drama. At first, the drama never failed to deliver on the thrills and tensions and horror...Sadly, these good qualities diminished in the second half and the drama became a little bit too melodramatic and focused too much on a romance that seemed really forced. Nevertheless, this drama was still entertaining to the very end and I would really recommend giving it a try. Don't expect Train to Busan level quality, but more along the lines of #Alive - a very fun zombie drama that has its flaws.
Takeuchi Ryoma and Takito Kenichi were amazing as always. They really sold us on the characters' inner turmoils and emotions. Takito Kenichi was especially noteworthy in his role of an evil scientist, a man on the very precipice of insanity. Ryoma was really good at portraying his tortured pysche as he desperately tried to keep his band of survivors alive while trying not to make dubious moral choices. Also a shoutout to Kim Jae-hyun, who was also memorable as Min-jun as was Marie Iitoyo as Kanae! Unfortunately, the rest of the cast didn't really make an impact on me and Nakajo Ayami's acting wasn't that impressive, despite being the FL XD.
Imo, other than the acting, the best part of this drama is the OST. Rei Yasuda's "Not the End" is an absolute banger; her voice is gorgeous and that song WILL get stuck in your hand for the next several day, it's so catchy and beautiful.

If you like doramas, zombies and N.flying... then this mini drama is right for you
Now I confess, I was tempted to follow this one while it was ongoing, yet I waited until it was completed and binge watched it yesterday, mainly because Jaehyun from N.flying is part of the cast and I was curious to his character and performance in here.However not only was I surrendered by his character, Minjun, but also for the characters Hibiki and Todoroki and of course the good old infamous Dr. Shuto. The actors did a remarkable job with their characters, but I feel like these ones stand out for their personal vendettas and goals along the episodes.
The world as we know it entered in an Apocalyptic Breakdown after an out of control virus is spread across mankind, enabling a sick transformation, and only a small group of survivors and a security organization are doing everything they can to survive with their own beliefs. We can say this is somehow similar to the whole Walking Dead because of the theme itself, and for those who are expecting something out of Train to Busan, than this sadly isn't it.
But still it's not that bad, although the first half is definitely better.
The second half is focused more into the hopeless love story, and all the illusions made by pre-fabricated lies...
Still, I really enjoyed watching it, and despite episode 7 being the saddest in my own personal opinion, it was in a way necessary for the developing of the plot and what fostered the rol of actions and decisions made by the characters from then on.
The OST once again, not quite memorable but it works nicely on the scenes and it's well displayed for emotional value.
The dorama ends how it ends, but worry not! Because....
The sequel has started already and seems just as promising as this if not even more, so if you made it this far be sure to follow ;)

Cartoonish and boring
The story has a manga or anime-type feel to it, with mad scientists and everyone on a path of vengeance to kill someone over things that in reality they should just accept and understand. It's almost on the level of, you stole my sandwich. Now I vow to make it my life mission to kill you. (For instance, there's this kid who vows to kill whoever stabbed his sister. Sounds valid except the sister was a zombie and the person who stabbed her was only protecting themselves from getting bitten, qnd he knew it). It's comical like that but is not really funny and not really entertaining. Pretty boring, actually, for a zombie flick, and I think the fault lies partly on the storytelling but mostly on the character building. The characters just weren't set up enough. We don't know anything and, more importantly, don't feel anything at all for the main leads vecause they're just this rabdom couple who got separated in the apocalypse. We were not given enough of a backgrounder except that one shot they keep repeating of them practicing archery together. It was also funny how the FL instabtly believed the ML was dead after someone told her about it. Didn't even wait to see proof. Just instantly removed his engagement ring by the window and turned to another guy LOL. It's all silly and shallow like that, and doesn't get better till the end.Was this review helpful to you?
The hidden gem of japanese zombie drama
I don't often watch Japanese drama.But I do know they have a knack of creating melancholic, heart-warming, and tear-jerking romantic stories. Either this, or on another extreme, with gory, thrilling, and absolute blood splattering stories. What both of these have in common is their ability to create the ambience, fluffy or choking atmosphere to bring out the emotions of the characters.
"Love You as the World Ends" manages to bring just this.
I was amazed because unlike other zombie drama, the main male character, Mamiya Hibiki is kind-hearted to a fault. Now, that's a definite no-no in a zombie survival situation. The story element of saving one even if it may affect the whole group is the core of characters having this trait.
Faced with decisions after decisions, with no clues as of the consequences that may occur, and a blurry line drawn between right and wrong—these are the emotional conflicts that shine in each character, in this drama. Although certain misunderstandings tangled into conflicts, can spiral out of control leading to unnecessary moments or deaths, but they were resolved well, well enough to not drag the plot down.
And in the middle of all this, there's this Hibiki who still tries to save the world, who seeks to believe that people are good, in nature. No one can lie without pouring a bit of themselves into their lies, without first living their lies. He believes that even in this hell of the world, he can work hard to create friendships and family bond, to survive. As long as he doesn't give up.
He believes, because he wants to be believed.
And as stupid as that sounds, it's just captivating isn't it?
To root for a character that only wants to protect his little world.

This show kept me so freaking stressed out that it really wasn't that enjoyable, but I couldn't bring myself to drop it. I wanted to love it. When I first started it, I was hooked instantly. I did love it. But then around the middle, things just got to be too much and it was more anxiety driven. Lol I mean, yeah this would be more true to life, I guess because not everything is lucky or happy but ... this show made me like (almost) every character at first and by the end, I gave zero fucks about Hibiki and Kurumi. I stopped rooting for them by the middle and when my favorite character died, I set the speed to 2x just to get it over with. There were a few shocking moments popped in but it still didn't satisfy me. As for the ending.... I'm sus af and I do want to at least try season 2 and see what is going on with Kurumi and her genes. Lol

It's a bit like the show "The Walking Dead"
After watching episode 1 and 2, I've decided to watch recap first. If something catches my interest then I go back to watch the whole episode.Story started something like "The Walking Dead" did. But instead of waking up from a coma, the lead character emerges from being stranded. ML is about to propose marriage to FL when disaster strikes. Basically the whole season was all about finding FL.
This story lean more on the SciFi aspect. FL was taken by some nefarious organization. She was brainwashed and also used as an experiment in the guise of finding a cure. It's a bit hard to believe, because she's a doctor herself. Yet she's still gullible and easy to manipulate. She was pretty girl who's really to nice to everybody else but not with her BF. Not intentionally, he's just not the priority.
In the end, they did find each other. Escaped the mad scientist lab, forgave each other and then finally find love again. The end.

drama com zombies~
Um drama com zombies? Com toda certeza me chama atenção,seu começo é bom, o primeiro episodio é um acerto, funciona bem.
Conforme avança decai, voltando a melhorar mais a frente.
E mais uma vez os zombies não são o maior perigo e nem são as coisas mais assustadoras,
na verdade estes podem acabar por serem engraçado e definitivamente não são assustadores,
perece mais piada, estes são patéticos, quero dizer você poderia até rir!
Por outro lado na realidade, o real perigo são outros humanos,
fica evidente o quão ruim somos, afinal o "homem é mau por natureza".
Se tem algo realmente perigoso e assustador então estes são os humanos.
A OST é boa mesmo, as musica me agradaram bastante.
Por curiosidade quando a abertura começou, eu meio que lembrei de HOTD.
Algumas coisas são necessárias que sejam ditas, pois nem tudo é um mar de rosas.
Se tem algo grave que me incomodou por um tempo é a personalidade do ML e seu moralismo barato,
quero dizer "O mundo esta um caos, pessoas morrendo a sua volta, 'zombies' a torto e a direita e é serio!
Que você me vem com bobagens, não consegue medir a gravidade da situação?" É a sobrevivência que conta!.
Mas isso eu meio que dou um desconto, afinal acabou de ser usada para desenvolver o personagem e fazer ele abandonar certas questões e focar no importante que é sobreviver.
Se tem uma cena em particular me deixou inconformado, é a cena do veiculo em que se perde a direção e sai da estrada!
Por fim a ultima coisa que eu considero problemática é a que envolve a FL, essa ladainha de cura, a salvadora da humanidade, que os genes da mesma seriam a solução para criar uma vacina, me incomodam muito e esta na cara que esse doutor não tem a melhores das intenções, sua razão inicial nem importa mais e poderia até ser "boa", mas foi corrompida.
Quanto a relação ML, FL e aquele outro personagem, eu soh espero que ele tenha uma boa razão pra fazer o que faz.
Enfim,
o drama tem seus acertos e seus erros.
Pode ser uma boa escolha caso você goste de series desse tipo, mas não espere nada muito grandioso.

Le monde des zombies est vraiment petit
Les zombies ont envahi tous les supports depuis un bon nombre d'années déjà et on ne peut pas dire que l'on a été en manque d'infections ses derniers mois non plus, dans le monde réel. C'est donc avec un peu de réticence que j'ai commencé à regarder ce drama. D'autant plus que mon dernier Zombie Outbreak était le drama Zambi. Et lui, il m'a vraiment traumatisé pour quelques années, mais malheureusement pas pour les bonnes raisons (l'absence d'une vraie histoire, bon sang, quel gâchis !!!). On commencera à regarder "Kimi to Sekai ga Owaru hi ni: Season 1" un peu pour la même raison que Zambi, c’est-à-dire le casting, et on espèrera cette fois-ci que ce ne sera pas juste pour la chanson titre qu'on l'appréciera.On peut dire que ça commence plutôt mal. Car il faudra rapidement faire le deuil de l'originalité des situations que vous espériez rencontrer dans ce énième hommage aux films de Romero. Une ville coupée du monde. Des survivants regroupés dans une école, un gymnase, etc..., infectés les uns après les autres et mourant à la chaine, après s'être attaché. Un héros badasse qui ... tir à l'arc, oui, mais du kyûdô SVP !, pour la coolitude, c'est mieux. Tout est du vu et revu. Mais une fois tous vos espoirs d'être surpris enterrés, Vous apprécierez alors peut être de suivre l'histoire.
Le casting est évidemment la grande force de la série. Quel bonheur de retrouver Takeuchi Ryoma toujours aussi expressif et Otani Ryohei en flic un peu trop paternel ou encore Takito Kenichi en en savant fou, qui ne vous fera pas rire, pour une fois (quoi que, c'est quoi ses cheveux ?). Des rôles sur mesure donc. Kasamatsu Sho sous exploité dans les dramas se révèle en prétendant éconduit à la recherche de sa revanche sur le gagnant du cœur de la belle Nakajou Ayami qui trouve, elle aussi, enfin un rôle titre fort. Rongé par la jalousie, on se mettrait presque à sa place tant il nous fait de la peine.
Car au-delà du thème de la survie qui devient assez vite secondaire, on est plongé dans un triangle amoureux, né au lycée, dont aucun des protagonistes n'en est encore sortie, bien des années après. Le thème très lourdingue et américain des zombies est largement rattrapé par le traitement subtil des sentiments à la japonaise. L'amitié est mise à rude épreuve et le sens du sacrifice envers le groupe prend une autre dimension sur l'ile du soleil levant. Les scènes touchantes sont fortes en émotions, mais ne cachent pas pour autant un manque de moyen de la production. Des litres d'hémoglobine comme de maquillage ont été versés et les figurants sont remarquablement dirigés pour donner du réalisme, si on peut dire, dans ce genre de série.
Si le premier épisode peut complètement rebuter les zombies sceptiques comme moi, très vite je me suis pris au piège de l'histoire, qui semble relier tous les protagonistes, au-delà de ce triangle amoureux. Grâce au nombreux et bien menés flashbacks qui manquaient tant à Alice in Borderland, par exemple. On respire en voyant d'autres lieux et on commence à mener une enquête sur le passé du héros, transformant cette histoire d'horreur, en thriller qui me réjouie bien plus, tout en restant une très grande histoire d'amour. D'amitié aussi, et je ne parle pas que de l'amitié Japo-Coréenne étrangement mise en avant dans cette série.
En conclusion pour Monsieur, beaucoup d'hémoglobine, de jolies jeunes filles à secourir, des armes à feux, de la bagarre, de la mécanique, ... pour Madame, des beaux gosses bourrés à la testostérone, se battant pour le cœur de la belle, le dernier tube de Masaki Suda en ending (ouf il ne joue pas dedans, Takeuchi Ryoma n'aurait eu aucune chance face à lui)
et pour moi une histoire pas si banale, et même bien écrite et mise en scène qui donne la part belle au mystère et au suspense.
Une bonne série familiale, donc. Non je déconne évidement, c'est plutôt une série idéale pour la Saint-Valentin.
