Shi Yi was once feared by men as a bloodthirsty demoness, killing hundreds. No one could stand in her way. But scared of the woman she'd become, Shi Yi's treasured blood slave Yi Ling stabbed her and imprisoned her in ice. Now 200 years later, Shi Yi is free from her prison but with no knowledge of who she is. Still plagued by blood rage when she uses her powers, she finds her way into the care of the seemingly familiar Hua Yu Tang, who promises to heal her from this mysterious ailment. Kinda toxic sapphic fantasy romance… yay :)
This drama is pretty much everything I could ask for from a GL mini-series. It’s got star-crossed sapphic romance, sword fights, demons and immortals, and a good dose of comedy. Despite the melodramatic setup, the story doesn’t take itself too seriously.Sheng Wei and Wang Xi Xue always always always deliver with their chemistry, including here. They are dressed beautifully and look gorgeous together. Whenever the two of them are involved, I will be watching, no questions asked. This drama even includes Yang Fu Yu to round out the lesbian polycule.
It’s about as explicitly gay as it can be, given that this is still a Chinese drama. There are no illusions about whether these girls are into each other, that’s for sure.
I recommend this one, it’s a gem among other historical GLs.
TROPES
lovers to enemies to lovers
amnesia
second chance romance
master/servant pairing

Wuxia GL!!!!
Why are GL fantasy dramas so rare? idk but this production team has taken on themselves to make sure we don't starve. The plot has layers, the characters are all vibrant and compelling. If you are particularly attached to polish then you should probably check your expectations as this is a low budget production, but in many ways that is the best part. Indie projects like this have HEART. You can tell that these stories are love letters to the genre, made by people who are actually fans and artists.
If you enjoy this, and don't know this team, then buckle up because they have more content! They have made a few wuxias and a few moderns too. And the more you dig in, the cozier the cast feels.
This drama in particular is a robust epic that has some fascinating writing. I would watch so much more of this.
