Confused Character

So they both love eachother but they can't express and accept and the guy is on different level like he can't trust her even a bit and girl seems just too gullible like what.....
And why can't they just speak there mind if they don't want anything say why are they just watching each other .

A bit flat

Okay, so I’m writing this review as someone who actually read the book, because I think that makes a pretty big difference here.

I completely understand why they made Luan Nian nicer in the TV adaptation. In the book, he can honestly be kind of an as*h*le, and I can understand wanting to soften his character for the drama. But I think they’ve taken it a little too far.

He’s too nice now, and honestly, I think it makes the story flatter.

One of the things I really liked about the book was that you could understand the huge breakup. You understood where the story was going, why things were happening, and ultimately why their relationship fell apart. Luan Nian was the one with the communication problems. He was closed off, emotionally distant, and unwilling to really let Shang Zhitao into his life. And you can actually see him slowly opening up — unfortunately, by the time he does, she’s already emotionally moving in the opposite direction.

In the drama, though, they’ve changed so much of that dynamic that it almost feels like Shang Zhitao is the one who struggles to communicate and is the problem in the relationship.

For example, in the drama, he introduces her to his friends and is very open about her. In the book, she basically never meets his friends. They don’t really socialize outside of their Fridays and weekends together, and that distance is actually important to the story. You can see him slowly changing, which makes the relationship — and eventually the breakup — much more meaningful.

Here, there’s barely any evolution because he’s already open and affectionate from the beginning.

So instead of watching two people gradually learn how to be together, it kind of feels like we’re just watching two awkward people being awkward together 😂

And honestly, I’m finding myself much less invested than I thought I would be.

I’m not saying they needed to make Luan Nian exactly like he is in the book. I actually understand why they softened him. But they softened him so much that they also changed the entire dynamic of the story, and I’m not sure the adaptation is better for it.

Real. Complicated. Human.

I have so much to say about this drama and so many feelings that I honestly don’t even know where to start, so excuse me if this review is all over the place.
First, I’ll start by saying that the acting from both the FL and ML was superb. They were right up my alley.
The FL, even though she was supposed to be timid and insecure at the beginning, never acted like a child. She didn’t have that tiny, overly soft voice or childish mannerisms that we sometimes see in other dramas. She portrayed her character beautifully throughout the entire series, and I really appreciated that.
Same goes for the ML. Even though he was arrogant, it was never over-the-top or cringey. Even his tantrums felt relatively mature and believable. And can we please give a round of applause for his 10/10 wardrobe?

The relationship

I know there has been a lot of discourse about who was toxic, who was wrong, who was right, etc. And honestly, I think both of them were flawed. They both failed to listen to each other properly, and their communication—or lack thereof—was a huge part of their problems.
Flora knew that Luke was the jealous type. She asked him multiple times to contact her when she was having a difficult time, but she never actually did. She also sometimes acted out of line, like never introducing Luke as her boyfriend, even though he openly introduced her as his girlfriend to his friends and family.
That being said, Luke's actions spoke volumes, but actions without words can also create even more miscommunication and confusion in a relationship. Just because someone loves you or is trying to show you through their actions doesn't mean you should have to constantly guess what they're thinking or feeling. And that's what made their relationship so frustrating to watch.
Episode 20 absolutely broke me
I NEED to talk about Episode 20 because that episode completely broke me.
He was technically a side character, but his story took up such a significant emotional space in the drama. I cried my eyes out.
And honestly, that entire situation really highlighted just how poorly the ML and FL communicated with each other.
How can something THAT big happen to your best friend, and your significant other doesn't even know?
It genuinely made me question: Was Luke really a part of Zitao's life after six years?

I wish they hadn't gotten back together....

As someone who loves happy endings, I genuinely wish Flora did not get back together with Luke.
After six years of back-and-forth. Six years of crying, confusion, misunderstandings, and asking the man she loved to simply communicate with her properly...I wanted her to choose herself.
She was THRIVING after she left him. She had a successful business, a beautiful home, was speaking three languages, and had clearly built a life for herself. She had grown so much.
And after everything she went through including losing her best friend in such an awful way and not getting the promotion she had worked so hard for—I honestly think it would have been more realistic for her to finally let Luke go.
In my opinion, that would have shown even more character development.
Sometimes loving someone isn't enough. Sometimes the most realistic happy ending is realizing that you have outgrown the relationship.
A couple of things that bothered me
One thing that bothered me throughout the drama was that the timeline wasn't always very clear. I wish the drama had been more precise about how much time had passed between certain events.
And this brings me to my biggest complaint: the ending felt rushed.
I would have loved to see Flora meeting Luke's parents, their life together after getting back together, how they rebuilt their relationship, and eventually their wedding. After investing so much time into their story, I wanted to actually SEE what their future looked like instead of having it wrapped up so quickly.

Overall, I thought this drama was absolutely fantastic.
What I loved most was how real the story felt.
It wasn't a perfect romance where everyone communicates perfectly and every problem is solved with one conversation. The characters were messy, insecure, stubborn, emotional, and sometimes made decisions that frustrated me but that's also what made them feel human.
I could actually see parts of myself in the story.The story felt heavy at times, but I never felt like there were boring episodes. There was always something happening emotionally, and the characters kept pulling me back in.
I just wish the drama had been a little longer and that the final episode had given us more closure.

Good Start..

This Review will be updated once the story progresses,
Started with Good Hope and it fulfilled my expectation...Strict ML and Steady/ Ambitious FL make a good pair.

ML and FL are gorgeous... ML has such a magnetic Aura and carries his role perfectly... Truly exceptionally handsome...
FL looks pretty and sometimes very naive.. She has the audacity to question the lead in the first meet, asking her lady lead to be the assistant of PM in the first meet but portray very childish behaviour sometimes..
C dramas have to bring the balance here... They need to come out of this' childish and cringy or extreme innocent ' FLs in this 2026 era at least depending on the stories and characters...This is a generic comment..

The scenes are good and honest. They were attracted and had some intimate moments. They want to keep it separated because it will affect their professional Life... Very fair and Good..A mature thought...

A small observation, But In Episode 6, when FL moved to other team, She has been assigned to get the previous team source files , I am really disappointed how it progressed.. ML has initially rejected the ask. Then she went to his home? ML handed it over her just because of their connection . When the Male colleague asked for it ,his teammate said No... Just imagine if there is another lady who has been assigned this task, She would have been said no , but the FL would have done just because she slept with him ? Where is the professional ethics here? How are they promoting this? This is the reason no one is glorifying office romance...It really questioned both of their images , upright nature which i had initially...

Music , Dialogues, Aesthetic backgrounds and scenes are the strengths here..You will have butterflies in few scenes Lets see how it progresses.. Guys Do Watch. without fail..You will be hooked esp by the ML and the chemistry !!!

Same old boring tropes

Honestly, I’m disappointed. I was really looking forward to this drama, but it brings absolutely nothing new to the table. It’s the same tropes we’ve seen over and over again, and at this point, it’s becoming exhausting.
I also can’t fully connect with the acting. Everything feels forced and unnatural, and you can clearly see that they’re acting rather than actually living their characters. He’s trying so hard to pull off the cold, intimidating CEO persona, but unfortunately, it just doesn’t work for me. She’s the sweet, passive one, while most of the other characters feel like they’re simply there to fill the screen.
I think the drama’s biggest strength is the intimate moments between the two leads. Those scenes have chemistry and are probably what keeps people watching.
But outside of that? It’s just the same boring office drama we’ve seen countless times before.

Situasionship and roller coaster ride of emotions

I dont have expectation is this drama..not a fan of both ML and FL..but damn..the director and the intimate coordinator deserve a big clap..its well done esp on the intimate scenes..JBR is such charmer...hate him as Luke coz his mouth and possesiveness but he's captivating to watch...SQ as Flora is amazing as well...you see how broken she was after the breakup in contrast after they first night together..i love how hardworking she was....and her friendship with Lumi and her roomates are the best...but the series was toned up a bit...in the novel...Luke is a menace to be with...this such a challenging role..good thing JBR managed to pull it off..
Best scene for me is when Luke offered his hands and Flora took it and switched it effortlessly at the car parking area.

Dull leading lady

The hype for this drama was really being advertised, I had to find out for myself. I have to say I was a bit disappointed. I liked the plot and really enjoyed the ML's character and acting. I can't say much for the FL. She comes off as childish with that baby voice and immature with her child-like thinking at times. This is the first time I have seen her in a drama, I started looking into other dramas she'd starred in and it appears that is her acting style. Serious, no sex appeal, dull kissing scenes, no passion, with a lack of confidence. Wardrobe/make-up/hair need to do a total remake on her. She is too plain and boring for my taste.

the plot is good

the actors are good I have watched abt 4 episodes which was released today and I like it .
sun qian has done pretty good acting in the first 4 episodes which I have seen yet so dont know abt the future episodes.
but what I can say is that this series is abt reunion, second chance at love . they drift apart due to a misunderstanding and meet again. I also like the acting of male lead. for the male lead this is not the first reunion, second chance at love trope series he has already acted one called road home with tan songyun which was very nice so whoever wants recommendation for second chance at love, road home is one for you.
the first 4 episodes kept me hooked ngl. I liked how he was being strict and still helping her ,uk the mentor vibes which was pretty nice. so I like till now lets see what happens ahead

I wanted to love The Early Spring so much more than I did. It markets itself as an antidote to fluffy, brainless idol romances—promising an authentic, mature look at workplace survival, corporate power imbalances, and two guarded adults colliding in Beijing. For a while, it delivers on that promise, entirely on the backs of its two lead characters. But when it counts most, the writing abandons its adult premise and retreats into the most infuriating, manufactured romance tropes in the book.

Let’s start with what actually works: the chemistry. Luke (Luan Nian) and Flora (Shang Zhitao) have an electric, raw, and magnetic pull on screen. Their physical tension is palpable, and neither character feels one-dimensional in the early stretch. Luke brings genuine psychological complexity to the table; beneath his icy, sharp-tongued executive exterior, you can feel the terrified vulnerability of a man who has weaponized control to avoid being hurt. Meanwhile, Flora possesses an admirable, understated grit. Her quiet resilience as a migrant worker clawing her way up the cutthroat advertising ladder makes you root for her growth.

However, the narrative architecture completely falls apart under the weight of an endless communication impasse. For two characters who are supposed to be observant, razor-sharp professionals surviving at the highest tier of their industry, their ability to speak a single honest sentence to each other is virtually nonexistent. The middle stretch becomes an emotionally exhausting loop of withheld truths, defensive silence, and bitter misunderstandings that are swept under the rug rather than actually resolved.

The breaking point for me—and the reason this drama can’t score above a 7—is how the major crisis is handled. After years of high-stakes tension, their massive fallout doesn't stem from an insurmountable ideological clash or a compelling ethical dilemma; it escalates out of a completely stupid, petty misunderstanding that a five-minute conversation would have defused.

Even worse is Flora's reaction: she completely disappears. Ghosting your long-term partner and vanishing without a trace is not "empowerment" or "finding oneself"—it is utterly immature. After watching her spend dozens of episodes learning to navigate corporate politics and stand on her own two feet, seeing her flee into total silence rather than having a face-to-face, adult confrontation felt completely regressive. It was a cheap, contrived writing shortcut designed solely to force a dramatic separation arc, robbing us of the emotional catharsis we spent the entire series waiting for.

Visually, the drama is a mixed bag. The chilly, corporate glass boxes of Beijing provide a neat contrast to the snowy, textured landscapes of Harbin, but the pacing across these shifts drags significantly, making the middle section feel like an endurance test.

If you live for high-angst, slow-burn romantic tension, it’s worth a watch for the character dynamic alone. Just be prepared to yell at your screen when two supposedly brilliant adults blow up their lives over an avoidable non-issue and a childish disappearing act.
