The film is set in 1999, on Sado Island. While Japan is embroiled in war with a major power, the remote island of Sado remains untouched by the conflict. Hazama, the next head of the Tokin-ryu school—a symbol of the island’s Noh culture—along with his junior disciples Agata and Orito, spent their days in modest, peaceful seclusion alongside the school’s current head, Chigusa, and his wife, Negai, as well as Utami.
