The Female Lead Character is annoying from past life until her new life

I dislike the FL, from past life, she was stubborn and led to ashes, given the second chance, she is still act like what she wants without rethink.
Always do what she wants, want to save the whole country by herself but burdening others.
If she is that capable, she won't be deceived in her past life, if in her present life, she understands that she needs to restrain and think more, not act more blantantly.
i can't continue to watch since I don't like the FL character, it is not Chen Du Ling issue, it is just not fits my personal preference.
Nothing wrong with leads only this is not the storyline i like.

Style Over Character

The problem with many Chinese historical dramas is that they confuse style with character.
They give us a flawless twenty-year-old warrior with perfect hair, porcelain skin, no scars, no sun damage, and almost supernatural abilities, then expect us to be impressed because the camera films him in slow motion.

But a pose does not create a character.
Dirty Harry wasn't intimidating because of the pose.

The pose worked because the character had already earned it.
Here, it's the opposite.
First, they sell you the legend.
Then they expect you to believe it.
I didn't drop this drama because of the story.
I dropped it because it asked me to admire its characters before giving me a reason to do so.

wayyy too much politics. if you're looking for more romance this is prob not for u

ugh i wanna like this SO BAD cuz i love chen du ling and zhou yi ran and this pairing is like exactly what i wanted 😭 but there's just SO MUCH POLITICS. like yea its listed as one of the genres but its just too much i can't. its just really not my cup of tea tbh. the dubbing is also erm a bit intense for my liking...

like idm the plot. its interesting yea but im just a romance girly through and through so this is just not for me

maybe i'll pick this up again and try sit through it all since it's only gonna be 24 eps... but idk... the politics is too big of a theme so we'll see ig

A Story’s Letdown

Casting & First Impressions: The casting didn’t impress me, but I was willing to look past it if the story delivered. Unfortunately, it didn’t. The poster was striking and drew me in, but the actual show failed to live up to that promise.

Episode 1 Structure: The opening flashback stressed me out more than it intrigued me. An animated storytelling intro would have been a better choice, followed by about 15 minutes of the show, and then the intro song. Instead, the pacing felt rushed and didn’t allow viewers to settle into the world.

Characterization: The female lead was a major letdown. I dislike naive female leads, and here she seemed frustratingly dependent. The only way she felt at home in the capital was through a man — why not a friend, or even a deeper tie to her father, a general who could have shaped her upbringing? That would have been a more logical and empowering foundation. Instead, the narrative leaned on the “male savior” trope, which undermined her character completely.

Overall Feel: The show feels too much like a short C-drama, lacking depth and atmosphere. The rushed pacing, shallow character development, and reliance on tired tropes made it hard to stay engaged.

Verdict: Ashes to the Crown is a “bleh” experience for me. It promised something grand with its poster, but delivered a rushed, shallow drama with a naive lead and uninspired storytelling. I won’t be continuing with it.

Pretty thats it.

Very pretty to look at. Even the supposedly dark scenes are beautiful.

But this is not what it is about. Dramas these days only serve visuals that also explains why actresses like Chen Duling get casted. No skill only face card.

Give me an actual fucking story that actually gives you knowledge on why stuff happens. Actual good background stories and awesome characters.

But instead when the shows lack logic or anything interesting just like POJ before this one, we get the "uhhh but look its pretty".......

Poor acting of the Female Lead

What the heck is that acting from the female lead? Is she a robot? Her expressions and delivery feel so stiff and unnatural. They should have cast Esther Yu instead. Esther Yu is already a veteran actress who can handle different types of roles and emotions, unlike this robotic performance.

Esther Yu is the Queen of Cdrama and Chinese Entertainment.
