So Road to success isn’t a typical idol drama with flowery youth journeys, unlimited romance and endless heart flattering moments. It’s a type of drama which isn’t entirely fixated on one person’s story, rather everyone’s story intertwines which makes it the perfect healing drama.

My greatest take from the drama is how most of the storyline is relatable to the day to day lives we are currently living. Road to success shows how many people are living lives which they never anticipated to because societal norms and standards. It shows how so many people have let go of their dreams or even dared not to have great dreams because of the toxic environment they find themselves in. It shows how the smallest support can transform one’s life for the best while what may seem to be the smallest obstacle may shatter one’s life.

As you watch Road to success just know that you aren’t signing up for a full blown romantic drama. Despite the leads having great chemistry and quite a number of heart fluttering moments, romance is just a subplot of the drama. On the other hand the leads show us how deep love can run in the little moments. All their actions towards each other, despite their magnitude are done wholeheartedly, in a well articulated, meaningful, and heartwarming manner! The fair share of romantic scenes are quite remarkable as they highlight how when actions truly speak louder than words something amazing blooms!

You will totally enjoy this drama if you are sport fanatic. The cherry on top is how the soccer is combined with psychological growth of the team members. There’s never a dull moment whenever the team appears on the screen! The tear jerking moments leave a deep impression on your heart while the comedy will offer the best light hearted moments!

One of the main highlights of the drama is: from the moment the team of 11 boys, Lin Wanxing and Wang Fa joined hands, you could sense the “family” atmosphere. From the moment they decided to form an alliance, they never moved like individuals but as one, as a family with deep rooted love and care towards each other! On that note, do listen to Silent gravity by Dong Xiang Lin which made all Lin Wanxing and Wang Fa’s romantic scenes ten times better!!!🥹🥰

Ohh the actors, actresses and their respective characters were a cherry on top. From the 11 boys, leads, leads’ friends, toxic parents to Wang Fa’s family, everyone fit their roles like a hand in glove! By the way, l am Wang Gen Fa’s biggest fan!😂

The greatest highlight of this drama is how it tackles the psychological issues a majority of people are dealing with in one at or another with just varying levels. Of course one drama can’t solve all of society’s problems but it’s quite refreshing seeing issues of suicide prevention, mental health awareness and cyber bullying awareness being handled being addressed. There are so many life nuggets to take from Road to success, l will leave the most memorable ones below and leave you to find the rest in the drama:

1. Life is about having the lasting willpower needed to keep climbing towards the peak.
2. The greatest pain is not gritting your teeth after falling off a cliff, but facing yourself and making the choice that stays true to your conscience.
3. Real life is bitter and painful so it’s okay to run away but always have free will and independent minds!

A psychology PhD meets a retired football coach, and together they lead a bottom-ranked high school football team to a stunning comeback. But this show is so much more. It shows what’s really happening with today's students and adults — people who look fine on the outside but are quietly carrying trauma and guilt in their hearts. It lays bare the harsh realities of school bullying, the pressure of an insanely competitive world, and how fast rumors can spiral online; then teaching us how to face each of these problems head-on and stay positive anyway.

Lin Wangxin feels like a real person with real pain and helplessness. To rebuild her self-worth, she stepped off the traditional meritocracy track, stopped chasing other people’s expectations, and chose a low-pressure job instead. By doing that, she protected the little energy she had left and stopped letting it get drained away. On her journey she met a group of kids who were just genuine and straightforward. Unlike adults, they didn’t put up walls or overthink things when they were with her — they simply accepted her as she was. The kids trusted her and needed her, and being needed like that helped her rediscover her confidence and sense of worth again.

Coach Wang Fa deliberately got close to Lin Wanxing to uncover the truth behind his student’s death. That's how he ended up with the Hongjing No. 8 football team. But as the plot deepened, the mysteries unravelled, he figured out on his own that the person he was suspecting cannot be the same who killed his precious student. He healed alongside the boys.

Wang Fa’s goal was never just physical training. What he really wanted was to teach the kids to stand up for themselves when they were doubted. More than soccer skills, the most valuable lesson he gave them was the courage to question things and to speak their minds.

The young characters here are all so vibrant and attractive. Everyone's personality is different, yet determined, chasing their dreams, doing what they love, and lifting each other up along the way. That kind of friendship and support is just heartfelt and moving.

Some people may wonder why there isn't enough romance in the beginning parts. Honestly, life isn’t just about love, there’s so much else that’s beautiful and meaningful too. Lin Wanxing's detached state in the first few episodes was due to depression, knowing that Wang Fa gradually lowered his guard. They didn't rush, but worked through issues with good communication and trust. The expressions between the two slowly changed, and the looks they exchanged became delicate and full of emotion. It's their subtle love that got me hooked. Every interaction and movement between them clearly conveys that they are deeply in love. They didn't want to be straightforward, we understand. Especially their reunion moment in the theatre, the passion and pain can be felt through the screen, how miserably they missed each other.

In short, no matter what others say, I'm quite satisfied with the romance in this drama.

What to mention some heartwarming moments:

1. When Lin Wangxin found her grandfather’s wristwatch, holding it to her ear felt like bringing him back. The soft tik-tik sounded just like his heartbeat, and memories came rushing in as if he were still alive.
2. On the rooftop, Wang Fa flipped a coin to make an important decision for his life, but the result only made him more upset because he didn’t want to leave. That’s when Lin Wangxin opened up and admitted she’d cheated — not to win, but just to follow what her heart was telling her.
3. When Wen Chengye and Fu Xinshu switched positions: the captain moved to defense, and Wen Chengye moved to midfield, playing both offense and defense. The way they let go of their egos to make the team stronger than ever, made me proud of them.
4. When Wen Chengye sprinted to join the team mid-match but didn’t make it in time, the frustration and helplessness in his eyes welled up and spilled over. All he could do was mouth a quiet, aching ‘sorry’ and the boys cried with him.
5. Qin Ao's interaction with his father and his overall personality makes him one of the realest characters in youth dramas.
5.The final monologue, the handwritten letters so touching. And I'm glad it didn't end with a cliché wedding scene, but with Lin Wanxing continuing her PhD studies.


Visually, the drama stands out. The color grading and production design create a warm, polished aesthetic that enhances the uplifting tone. The football field is full of passion, and the matches? Absolutely thrilling. The emotions are strong and could fully relate. I cried when they cried, and laughed until I lost my breath. Wang Fa’s father is one crazily dramatic side character I want to see in every drama.

The soundtrack is a combination of healing and energetic songs, just as the drama demanded. 10/10 for me.

One final word:

Road To Success has exceptionally high-quality content and ideas that fully showcased our educational philosophy; never giving up on any child, loving and respecting every student. It's honestly so rare to find such grounded settings and plots in today's dramas. I'm truly so happy that Esther Yu got to play this role. If she hadn't, I might have really missed out on Lin Wanxing.

The Road Was Worth Every Detour

Sometimes the road to success begins with a detour. Returning to her hometown, Ph.D. student Lin Wan Xing unexpectedly takes a job as a high school sports equipment custodian, only to find herself rebuilding a forgotten football team alongside her mysterious tenant, Wang Fa, a former youth football coach from the UK. What starts as an uphill battle gradually becomes a story about resilience, healing, and finding purpose again. It reminds me of the Japanese saying nana korobi ya oki, fall seven times, stand up eight. Road to Success carries that spirit from beginning to end, showing that true victory is not measured by the final score, but by the courage to keep moving forward.

One thing I appreciated from the very beginning is that this drama knows exactly what kind of story it wants to tell. It is not a heavy character study that lets every emotional conflict simmer for several episodes, nor does it aim to dissect every issue down to its deepest layers. Instead, it chooses to tell many stories, giving almost every character their own moment to shine before naturally moving on to the next. Surprisingly, I never found this disappointing because the pacing is handled remarkably well. The narrative always feels clear with a proper beginning, middle, and end for each arc. It knows when to slow down and let emotional moments breathe, and when to pick up the pace without making the story feel rushed. As a comfort drama, it never overwhelms me with exhausting conflicts, yet it still made me genuinely invested. There were even several moments that caught me off guard emotionally and left me tearing up. I found myself sincerely rooting for these characters every step of the way.

Lin Wan Xing is easily one of my favorite parts of the drama. She feels like a ray of sunlight peeking through a crack in a closed window. Burdened by painful memories and lingering regrets, she returns home intending to live quietly, following her grandfather's wishes to simply exist without carrying the weight of ambition anymore. She plans to do only what her job requires, perhaps even less. Yet kindness has a funny way of refusing to stay hidden. Despite her reluctance, she slowly builds genuine connections with the football team and begins helping them understand not only the game, but also themselves. I especially loved how the drama incorporated her psychology background into her interactions with the students. Many of the methods she introduced felt surprisingly practical, and I even found myself wanting to apply some of them in real life.

Yu Shu Xin did a wonderful job portraying Wan Xing. I know her naturally cute mannerisms tend to divide audiences, but personally, I don’t find it distracting. In fact, I think it fits Wan Xing's personality perfectly. Her warmth, optimism, and occasional adorableness are exactly the qualities that slowly pull Wang Fa out of his shell. If I had one criticism, it would probably be her wardrobe. Her outfits are undeniably beautiful, but I occasionally wondered whether they were appropriate for someone working at a school. Maybe school regulations in China are different, but from my perspective, some outfits felt more suited for a fashion shoot than faculty attire. I also think that she sometimes appear distant or too indifferent with the team but I’m not familiar with teacher student relationship enough for me to judge.

Wang Fa, also known as Winfred Wang, initially comes across as the classic emotionally distant man carrying unresolved regrets. As he spends more time with Wan Xing and the football team, he gradually smiles more, opens up, and rediscovers his passion for coaching and life itself. As a romantic lead, I absolutely adored him. The progression from suspicion to admiration and eventually love feels believable because the drama takes time showing him quietly observing Wan Xing's kindness, intelligence, positivity, and unwavering care for others.

As a legendary football coach, however, I have mixed feelings. The story tells us how capable and famous he is, and there are certainly moments where his expertise shines through, but they never left a lasting impression on me. More often than not, he quietly stands on the sidelines until Wan Xing encourages him to step in or acts whenever he sees her in distress. Ironically, Wen Cheng Ye sometimes came across as the better strategist and coach. Chen Jing Ke was also somewhat hit or miss for me performance wise. Sometimes his expressions felt too restrained, almost as if he was trying a little too hard to look cool, while other scenes landed perfectly. Objectivity aside though, the man is ridiculously handsome. Every time he appeared on screen, I found myself reaching for the screenshot button more often than I probably should have.

Before watching, I had heard people describe this as a "she fell first, he fell harder" romance, so that was what I expected going in. To my surprise, it is almost the complete opposite. Wan Xing is emotionally guarded because of her past and far too occupied with her football team to spend much time thinking about romance. Wang Fa, meanwhile, slowly finds hope again through her presence. Since he spends so much time quietly observing her, it makes perfect sense that his thoughts gradually become filled with her while hers remain focused almost entirely on her students. Watching him shamelessly pursue her while she stays wonderfully oblivious was incredibly entertaining. Their relationship grows naturally, and when Wan Xing finally reveals every painful part of herself, expecting rejection, Wang Fa simply tells her that she is wonderful exactly as she is. It is one of the sweetest moments in the entire drama. And of course, because this is still a romance drama, we also get the classic rich guy fantasy of renting an entire theme park just to confess without expecting anything in return. Their relationship is gentle, healthy, and undeniably adorable.

As much as I loved Wang Fa himself, I think the real treasure is actually the Wang family. They might honestly be one of my favorite families in any Chinese drama. Papa Wang is hilarious with his cheerful rich dad energy, but beneath that playful personality is someone incredibly capable who resolves Wan Xing's family issues with surprising efficiency. Mama Wang only appears briefly, yet immediately leaves a strong impression as a brilliant, charismatic professor. Wang Fa's sister is equally impressive as a confident businesswoman helping manage the family company. What makes this family so refreshing is that despite their wealth and influence, they never look down on others. They warmly accept both Wan Xing and Yu Bo without hesitation. By the end, I almost felt like Wang Fa was simply the bonus package that came with this wonderful family.

Although the romance is charming, the Hongjing football team is undeniably the true heart of the story. The students quickly became the emotional anchor that kept me invested until the very end. I love that I could remember all eleven team members by face, even though not every player received an equally developed storyline. Wen Cheng Ye and Fu Xin Shu understandably receive the deepest arcs, while Qin Ao, Lin Lu, and Chen Jiang He each get memorable moments of their own. Even those with smaller roles still felt like part of one family rather than forgettable background characters. I have such a soft spot for these kids. They simply want to play football together, yet constantly face rejection because the school has little faith in them. Watching them slowly earn trust through perseverance made every small victory feel rewarding. I also appreciate that the drama never sells unrealistic positivity. Success is earned through failures, disappointments, and repeated setbacks, making every achievement feel much more meaningful. The young actors deserve plenty of praise because they brought so much sincerity and energy to their performances.

Visually, the drama is also quite pleasing. Beyond the crisp cinematography, I like how the lighting and framing subtly enhance the emotions of each scene. It is not flawless, of course. There are a few moments where certain camera angles are clearly chosen more for convenience than realism, especially during some of Wang Fa's football demonstrations. The early episodes also contain slightly choppy editing that occasionally left me wondering how one scene suddenly transitioned into the next. Thankfully, these issues become much less noticeable as the series progresses. The soundtrack is another highlight. Every song feels perfectly chosen for the drama's atmosphere, and several tracks happily continued living rent free in my head long after I finished watching.

The ending stays true to the overall tone of the series. It neither aims for an explosive climax nor settles for an anticlimactic finish. Instead, it provides enough closure for most of the major characters while leaving some details to the imagination. I do wish we had learned what became of each football team member, even if it had only been through a brief narration or text epilogue. Ju Li's conclusion also felt rather random, as if becoming a band's vocalist suddenly appeared out of nowhere. To be honest, I never fully understood her purpose in the story beyond acting as a harmless romantic distraction or teasing a possible female crush on Wan Xing. I also would have loved seeing more of the supporting cast during the final episode. Still, while the ending is not particularly memorable, it remains satisfying enough and fits the drama's comforting nature.

Overall, Road to Success became exactly the kind of drama I hoped it would be. It is warm without becoming shallow, emotional without becoming exhausting, and optimistic without pretending that life is easy. It reminds us that success is rarely a straight road. Sometimes it comes after taking the long way around, stumbling countless times, and finding people willing to walk beside us until we are ready to stand again. It may not be the deepest sports drama or the most unforgettable romance, but it has a sincerity that quietly works its way into your heart. Long after the final whistle blows, I found myself missing these characters, this team, and the comfort they brought me. That alone feels like a victory worth celebrating.

A Story That Quietly Healed Everyone

A story about 11 students, a teacher, and a coach who healed each other without even realizing it simply by being there for one another, believing in each other, and loving each other.

It’s about 11 students who believed they weren’t good enough and felt abandoned, so they pretended they had moved on from football and didn’t care about it anymore. But deep down, they still longed to play again, win, and chase their dreams.

It’s also about a lonely, depressed teacher who was ready to give up on everything. She went to her grandfather’s old school just to slack off, only to end up adopting 11 more lonely kids who became her biggest source of strength and support.

And then there’s a broken coach who lost his beloved student and gave up coaching because he believed he wasn’t good enough to teach football anymore. Without realizing it, he became the perfect coach for these 11 students, and through them, he slowly began to heal and rediscover his love for coaching.

I really love this series. It’s so healing and peaceful. The pacing is perfect not dragging, and not a single boring episode. I especially loved Wen Chengye’s character. He reminded me so much of my cat he always cared about everyone and everything, but pretended he didn’t.

I’ll always come back to this series. I love these characters, and I love this story. The cast, the OST, the acting everything was done so well.

A Healing Drama Done Right

This drama is all about growth, not just for the main leads, but for every single character, from the boys to the supporting cast. Everyone carries emotional baggage. They've been hurt, they run away, they try to hide from their pain, but eventually they find the courage to face it. At its core, this is a healing drama, and I loved almost every second of it (except for a tiny minor thing, of course).

This is my first time watching Chen Jingke, and wow... I get the hype now. The man can ACT. He doesn't rely on exaggerated emotions or dramatic crying scenes. Instead, he delivers so much through subtle expressions and body language. Wang Fa is the type of character who always wears a calm, composed mask, but Chen Jingke lets us see every emotion underneath it. He absolutely nailed the role. Plus... can we talk about Chen Jingke's visuals? 😭 He's SO manly in such a natural way, and he fits the role of Coach Wang Fa perfectly. I honestly can't imagine anyone else playing him.

And Wang Fa himself? Such a beautifully written character. He's incredibly human. He makes mistakes, owns up to them, fixes them, and keeps moving forward. He never forgets his past, but he also doesn't let it define him. He works hard to put everything back in its proper place, one step at a time.

As for Yu Shuxin, not gonna lie... I couldn't even finish SAL because I just couldn't connect with her character (and... her voice, I'm sorry 😭). But this role suits her SO much better. Lin Wanxing feels like a real young adult who's trying to survive life, deal with responsibilities, and literally drag herself out of bed to work out. She feels relatable instead of overly quirky.
And their chemistry? INSANE. They're complete opposites, yet somehow they complement each other perfectly. Their interactions feel effortless and mature instead of overly scripted or cheesy.

One thing I really appreciated was how the conflicts were written. They didn't throw unnecessary drama at us just for the sake of creating tension. The story builds naturally, starting with the boys' struggles, then Wang Fa's emotional journey, and finally Wanxing's. Every conflict serves a purpose and contributes to the characters' growth.

Speaking of the boys... THEY ARE SO PRECIOUS. They're standing at that awkward stage between being teenagers and becoming adults. They're expected to grow up, yet they still need guidance and protection. I'm so glad they had Wang Fa and Wanxing by their side throughout that journey.

The young actors also did an amazing job. They all have so much potential, and I'd love to see them in more dramas. Liu Jun especially caught my attention, he's incredibly promising. And Yan Yuchen? OMG he annoyed me SO MUCH in certain scenes... which honestly just proves how well the actor portrayed his character. 😂

Now let's talk about the romance. THIS is how you write an adult relationship. I absolutely loved how naturally Wang Fa and Wanxing interacted. Wang Fa teasing her with the QR codes never got old, and Wanxing actually continuing to send him money was hilarious 😂 Even though their relationship started under questionable circumstances, I love how they handled every obstacle that came after. Whenever they had a problem... they TALKED. No ridiculous misunderstandings dragged on for five episodes. No noble idiocy. They got enough push and pull, which is still good. Just two adults communicating, listening, and finding solutions together. More dramas need to learn from this.

The supporting characters deserve some love too. Yu Bo brought so much comedy at the right moments, and Wang Fa's dad? Sir... you are the DREAM father-in-law. 😂

Another thing that makes this drama stand out is that it's not your typical fluffy modern romance. It dives into mental health, psychological struggles, trauma, and healing in a surprisingly grounded way. The problems feel real, and so do the coping mechanisms. Sometimes running away from your problems feels easier simply because you don't know how to face them, and this drama beautifully shows that healing isn't about magically forgetting the pain. It's about learning how to live with it and move forward.

And can we appreciate that ending? I LOVE LOVE LOVE how they wrapped everything up. I didn't need a huge wedding. I didn't need some extravagant happily-ever-after.

I was completely satisfied watching Wanxing finally settle into the life she's always wanted and confidently step into a new chapter. As for Wang Fa... yes, I know you're basically a chaebol rich kid 😂, but I genuinely respect that you chose to keep working and earn your own money even though you never really had to. That says so much about who he is as a person.

Overall, this is easily one of my favorite modern C-dramas released this year. Great story. Fantastic character development. Beautiful chemistry. Excellent pacing. Wonderful execution. If you're looking for a romance that doesn't just focus on falling in love but also on healing, growth, and becoming a better version of yourself, this drama is absolutely worth your time.

Road to success starts with YOU.

From the start of the series I found myself already captivated and curious about this show and how it would progress. I have to say that the star of the show beyond Esther Yu or Chen Jing Ke would have to be the young actors who were all part of the soccer team.

Normally I am one of those people who prefer to watch shows for the romance, however the romance in this show was subtle and mature which I found quite appropriate! The young actors who played the students/soccer players have very promising futures in the industry, I was very moved by their acting and at how they portrayed athletes who were doubted, looked down on and abandoned by everyone until Lin Wanxing and Wang Fa came along. Together Ms. Lin and Coach Wang Fa gave them hope and more reasons to continue playing! Giving this team another chance to not only prove to the community who doubt them but to each other that they are worth it!

I always give credit when credit is due, so this is for Esther.

Once again, Esther always brings out the best in her character. From the moments of vulnerability and tears, to the cheekiness and witty behavior around the characters, she brings Lin Wanxing to life. I enjoyed watching Ms. Lin's journey, she is brave, kind, compassionate, and a true motivator! She is someone who is relatable and that's what I love about this character portrayed by Esther. I felt the emotions she felt, and I cried when cried, but when it was time to celebrate, and rejoice for victories, I was cheering her on. From showing up in the first episode with so much uncertainty to the end, I was happy to have followed along her journey, well done Ms. Lin!

Now onto, Coach Wang Fa who is played by the actor Chen Jing Ke, this is my very first show with him in it. He played the serious but gentle ML perfectly. Curious but yet so cautious, even though he kept a mystery around him, you can tell Chen Jing Ke also brought his character to life as Wang Fa. His eyes truly did the heavy lifting because this man can yearn. The way he would look at Lin Wanxing said so much more than his mouth did, yet he could only support and be by her side throughout the show -- I won't say much more cause you have to watch and it's worth it in the end lol.

I'll wrap this up and just say that it is worth a watch if you want something light, charming, but also touches on some heavy subjects but wraps them up neatly.

As my title says, the road to success starts with you, through the adversity that each character went through -- they never backed down even when they were at their lowest. So don't give up, keep on going!

How Road to Success Became One of My Favorite Dramas

At first, I didn't have any expectations for this drama. I only started watching it because of Xinxin, but OMG, I enjoyed it way more than I expected after episode 1. Episode 1 is always really important to me because if it doesn't hook me, I usually drop the drama. Luckily, this one kept me interested episode by episode.

The first thing I love about "Road to Success" is the PLOT. It's really unique these days, when so many dramas only focus on romance. This drama has almost everything: romance, youth, mystery, psychological elements, sports, school life, friendship, depression, family issues, bromance, and life lessons. There are even more elements that make it interesting. The plot twists are so unexpected that you'll never get bored, and it's so much fun trying to figure out who the mysterious person is along with the characters.

The second thing I love is the relationship between the "Baobaomen" (the 11 students), "Xiaolin Laoshi", and the "coach". Watching them slowly build trust and become like a family was one of my favorite parts. You get to see how much they sacrificed for football and how they were always there whenever someone needed help. I also love that the drama didn't only focus on the main leads. It gave some of the students their own backstories, making every character feel important. And here's a small spoiler—we barely get any romance between the main leads, and as someone who loves friendship-focused stories, I actually liked that even more.

Overall, Road to Success completely exceeded my expectations. I went into it expecting almost nothing, but it ended up becoming one of the most enjoyable dramas I've watched. It made me laugh, made me emotional, and kept me excited to watch the next episode every single time. If you're looking for a drama with an interesting story, lovable characters, meaningful friendships, emotional moments, and plenty of unexpected plot twists instead of just romance, I would definitely recommend giving Road to Success a chance.

A feel good youth sports romance drama

I really liked the premise of the story and I was curious about the main leads' acting so I dived into this impulsively and I'm happy to report this was not bad even though I typically don't enjoy youth dramas.

Lets start with the positives:
1. The acting- I really liked the acting of the cast members. Sure it didn't stary too far from the typical cdrama style comical expressions but it had more depth and emotion than usual
2. The chemistry- Not only the main leads, the little savage tribe also had good chemistry and I would believe it if they become real friends outside this drama. The main leads also had good slow burn chemistry and it was like I was third wheeling whenever I saw them together on screen
3. Football scenes & lingo- I liked that they discussed tactical theories and strategy and those football match scenes looked believable (tho I don't know a thing about football).
4. The dialogue- Though I had a few issues with the plot, I liked the dialogues in the script. It wasn't that cringey and sounded natural
5. The overall message and ending- I think this series had one of the most well written endings I've seen in a cdrama. I liked how football was used as a metaphor for resilience, unity and perseverance. I also liked how they didn't end it with the usual wedding scene but instead gave a hopeful and positive vibe.

Now let's move onto the negatives:
1. The light hearted plot- While this was marketed as a healing drama, it still had very dark and serious concepts so I expected some sort of emotional weight but it never came. Personally, maybe because of the pacing or how they rewrote the original novel for this drama, I couldn't feel the emotional angst I was supposed to feel. Then I read the scenes which were altered from the original novel and I understood why I felt that way because the plot points in the original novel were more darker, serious and contemplative.
2. The main focus kept getting lost- I feel like if you're going to rewrite the novel, then the plot points have to be streamlined better. There were too many side plots and the main focus which was supposed to the team and football, kept getting lost and overshadowed. This is another reason why some of the serious side plots didn't get the enough care and attention needed
3. The unnecessary side characters- I have a feeling that Yu Bo and Ju Li had a much more significant role in the novel. But in the drama, they just felt surface level and I couldn't connect to them at all. Their endings also felt shallow and rushed which made me feel like they got the lazy writing treatment.

Overall, if you're into youth dramas then you might love this more than me. It was not bad but not great either so it felt alright to me.

This is the best modern drama i've watched in 2026. Road to success 《灿如繁星》。Lin Wanxing who became the brightest star in the lives of the students and Wang fa. She unknowingly healed them when she herself was trapped in her past. Lin Wanxing could have the evil person to get her revenge but she didn't choose that path. She chose the greatest and kindest path "worrying about others when you yourself are stuck". This drama taught me that as long as you have enough willpower you will never truly give up. Even when you feel like giving up and feel like everything is going down and you just don't want to continue anymore you need to remember that "life is precious" nothing is enough to give up life, there are still people who love us and want us to be happy. Road to success told us that life doesn’t really get bad its just us who is hurt. Life will always give us something good. Even if there is suffering and pain life will always give us a meaning to keep moving forward in one way or another. So nothing is truly worth it giving up life. Also Wang Fa was the most greenest flag ever. He could have proposed to her everything was perfect but he truly wanted Lin Wanxing to be herself for once. He wanted her to fulfil all her own dreams before she became the wife of Wang Fa. This drama is such an empowerment to all the girls out there too. It tells us that even if there is gossip and rumours, only you yourself truly know if you have a clear conscience. Lin Wanxing said "A broken butterfly can never fly again. However, today, I'm standing here for one exact reason: I must announce to you, Xiang zi, that I do not fear you. On behalf of every women being victimised by sexual rumours, I am here to tell you loud and clear that we do not fear you and your kind. Your failure resulted because of your incompetence. You crushed the women you couldn’t get. You destroyed the competitor you couldn’t beat. Each and everything you did was only to conceal your inadequacy and jealousy. And I, Why should I ever fear someone so incompetent like you? The fact that I'm standing here today means you've already lost." This speech was the best of the best. It tells us how the society acts towards women. Also Wang Fa being there listening to her was the best decision because it shows how much he supported her and wanted her to break free from that trauma. Being a women doesn't mean you can slander them and insult them. We should not fear these people we should tell them that we are not the kind they think we are. Moving on I really love the bond between the students and the teachers. Lin Wanxing and Wang Fa raised those kids up, made them independent and happy. They were the supportive parents some of the kids never got. Lin Wanxing and Wang Fa made them realise their worth. Also Wang Fa's family was so cute and heart warming no wonder Wang Fa is such a good man. Ok this is long enough now I just want to say that we as humans have the right to choose we should choose what we like and parents should also support us in what we like.

My ultimate comfort drama

I absolutely love this drama. It taught me so much about effective communication and empathy. For instance, Lin Wanxing always tailors her communication strategies to match the personality of the person she's talking to, which is a great lesson in handling different characters. I also learned a lot about conflict management and crisis resolution—especially the importance of staying calm under pressure and focusing on solutions rather than anger.
From Lin Wanxing and Wang Fa’s relationship, I’ve learned that a healthy bond requires calm communication and mature discussions, even when feeling disappointed or angry, instead of resorting to the silent treatment. It’s all about mutual support. In real life, I personally prefer a slow-burn relationship, which is exactly why I adore their love story so much.
A huge thank you to Esther Yu (Yu Shuxin) and Chen Jingke for bringing Lin Wanxing and Wang Fa to life so beautifully. Kudos to all the young actors for their incredible performances, and to the director as well! 👍🏻 This drama successfully took me on an emotional rollercoaster, making me feel every single high and low.
